Written by Scott Edwards There are many different ways to make some extra money these days, but you have to allow yourself to step out of your comfort zone. Many people are not comfortable in doing this and who should be, your comfort zone is where you like to be, and it should not be any other way. But if you are willing to let the walls break down, you are able to find another world out there that you may have not noticed that is filled with more rewards than you could have ever expected. But by doing this you are also able to see some of the darker spots that you have been trying to avoid while out of your comfort zone as well, you just have to keep your eyes and ears open to make sure the risk is worth the reward. A new offer has been put out there from the local newspaper for evidence proving the legendary Beast of X Moor exists that Georgia and her boyfriend Matt cannot pass up. Twenty-five thousand pounds is a lot of money in and outside of Europe and the couple has a way to claim the prize. With cameras galore, Matt is ready to roll, but Georgia has to make a quick stop on her way up to the northern moor, for she has found a man that has seen the Beast of X Moor and knows where to find the cat. Only needing to get a picture to prove that the cat exists to claim the prize, Georgia and Matt have no idea what secrets the moor holds, especially when the sun goes down. Meeting up with their tracker, Fox, the two find out that he has a woman in the house that has seen the beast up close. Listening to her story, the group takes off on their adventure and they are ready to collect on the reward. Arriving at the edge of the forest, Matt and Georgia start setting up the cameras as the sun starts to set. Knowing that the beast is reported to come out at night, they are sure that this will give them their best chance at capturing a shot of it. But all bets are off when Georgia stumbles upon a body of a dead woman and when Fox comes to investigate, he spots five more. Finding a serial killer's dumping ground, Matt and Georgia try to leave, but navigating the moor in the dark is next to impossible and they have to stay with Fox who has a plan of his own. Wanting to catch the killer and get the headlines, Fox comes clean about his involvement on the hunt and tells the couple about all of the women that have gone missing in the area. Being in the devil’s playground, Matt and Georgia have to stay and try to help Fox and while watching their video feed, Matt sees one of the dead girls come to life. Trying to locate the young woman, the group heads into the darkness not knowing if the killer is there, or among them. With only the light of the moon and their flashlights to show them the way, every step could be their last. If you like movies that are dark and a little bit twisted, this is the one for you. You get your first twist when it is revealed that the Beast of X Moor (also the alternate title to this film) is not the fabled cat that everyone has been looking for since the 70’s, but a serial killer that has his own game to play with his prey. Then you get a bit deeper into the human psyche as attitudes start to change when everyone is faced with death. With so many things running through the minds of the beast’s new prey, you get to see them battle not only the dark, but their own emotions that change how they handle themselves from being put in such an awkward situation. There are some parts of this movie that left me shaking my head, but overall, it is the story that keeps you glued to the screen and it is not a waste of your time to watch at all. Stay Scared.

Written by John Edward Betancourt THIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM. YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.When it comes to television shows that put together a grand mystery, the audience never quite knows when the plot is going to advance in regard to everything hanging over the story. Some shows like to shove their grand reveals into the end of the season, so that the finale is epic and stunning in nature. While others prefer to pepper in little details throughout the season since the powers that be have a grander vision for what they want the series to accomplish. There’s really no perfect approach to this to be honest, but it would seem that for Locke & Key, a series mired in secrets, the latter option is how it is going to handle its style of storytelling. For ‘Family Tree’ took the time to finally address some of the mystery surrounding Rendell Locke and his past and that made for one stunning tale when all is said and done. But before we dive too deeply into what exactly this particular tale revealed, it’s best we take a moment and discuss some of the other important moments present within the framework of this story. Such as the fact that Kinsey’s decision to murder her fear brought about a fascinating commentary on how that particular emotion is something that can actually be healthy for people to carry in their hearts. Because fear can help keep us out of dangerous situations, and the fear of becoming a bad person or someone that is cruel, can steer us toward making kinder and gentler decisions in regard to the people around us and Kinsey not having this present in her heart anymore, is starting to transform her for the worse. Because she’s starting to exhibit agitated and cruel behavior, that kind that is indicative of someone who doesn’t fear consequences or repercussions for their actions, and the finest evidence of this unfortunate change, came about by way of her interaction with Eden in this tale. Because Eden took the time to pick on Scot over The Splattering and that prompted Kinsey to make use of a newly discovered key, one that fit into a special lock box hat would allow its possessor to control anyone of their choosing. And she was delighted to make Eden do some ridiculous acts, the kind that left her horribly embarrassed, and really the cruelty in question stems from the fact that she didn’t let up. She just kept pushing Eden to look like a fool and it was fascinating to see her give into such dark emotions and it is definitely creating a void between her and Tyler. Yet while this exploration into how all of our emotions keep us balanced was fascinating for certain, it’s time we dive into how this tale moved the plot forward in sublime fashion. For the mysteries surrounding Rendell Locke took on new light in this story thanks to some startling revelations. For starters, another key discovery allowed for Tyler and Kinsey to uncover some of the memories that Duncan seems to be missing and they unfortunately had to watch in horror as their dad killed one of his friends back in the day, leaving one to wonder if the drowning story is legit or not. Plus, Nina came to learn that Ellie is lying to her about a great many things, since she showed up to the house while everyone was out, under the guise of a lie and she won’t come clean about the strange scar that she shared with Rendell. And to complicate matters further… it would seem that Ellie killed Mister Ridgeway in the hopes of keeping any knowledge about the past, a secret. If anything, all of these elements make it clear that some incredible challenges await the Locke family in future episodes to come. Because their quest to uncover the secrets of Key House and their father’s youth, might end in disaster. Because those secrets are clearly buried for a reason and if people are willing to kill to keep them that way, who knows what kind of hell they will unleash if more people try to bring them into the light. And of course, their desire to rush headfirst in using magic is causing more harm than good, and that will undoubtedly lead to more complications down the line. Either way, this really was one incredible and important episode. Because this one, really did start to propel the plot forward in epic fashion and that likely means we are in for more incredible moments as season one rolls along. Until next time. Written by Scott Edwards College can be one of the best times of your life. Getting to meet new people from all over the country, it is just a time that you never want to forget. But there are so many people that don’t feel the same way as they did not have the pleasure of a great experience since they had to find jobs to support their class schedule. The price of college keeps getting higher and higher and many people are having to take a year off after high school just to get enough money put together so they can attend. With the promise of greener pastures when completed, it is important to get as much out of the classes as you possibly can, because real life is unforgiving. Justine is ready to start her Thanksgiving break off in style, at least as much style as she can since she is unable to afford a ticket home for the holiday. With all of her classmates gone and her boyfriend leaving as well, she will be all alone on the campus with the exception of her roommate, but that does not stay true either. When her roommate is invited up to Aspen to visit her parents, Justine is left all alone and will have to find ways to occupy her days. Having the dorms all to herself, she is able to stay amused, but as the holiday approaches, she needs to head off campus and get some food to celebrate with. While at the local shop, Justine spots a young woman that seems to have an attitude problem when throwing all of the magazines on the ground. When Justine reaches the checkout, it is revealed that the strange woman is a student and she demands a discount like what Justine receives. As the strange woman is not able to get what she wants, Justine offers to buy the sunglasses that she wants but that makes the moment worse. The strange woman starts to yell at Justine for being better than her and wants nothing from her. Being chastised for doing something nice for another person has left Justine floored and she heads back to campus to enjoy her quiet holiday. All is not quiet on the holiday front however when Justine sees that she has been followed back to campus and the one strange woman has turned into a group that has one thing on their minds, to kill. As the security guards on campus are the first to go, Justine has to find a way to get the word out that she is being hunted while not giving away her position. Having free reign to the entire campus may be her only way of surviving the attack by the hooded strangers, but without being able to get any help, how long can she survive before just tiring out? I have been on both sides of trying to do something nice for a stranger and I have very few regrets over it. There are those people that are just looking to take advantage of the situation and these are the ones that make it hard to trust anyone else’s kind intentions. I don’t fully understand what Justine could have done differently to keep the gang of killers from chasing after her, but there does not have to be a reason behind everything, some people don’t even need a reason to be set off, they just love to hunt. Even though Justine is alone on the campus, she is strong and smart enough to keep her wits about her, especially when it comes down to protecting herself. Stay Scared. Written by John Edward Betancourt THIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM. YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.Over the course of its opening episodes, Locke & Key has been a fairly bleak affair and with good reason. After all, these opening chapters have been about a broken family starting over and the pain that they feel in their hearts over losing their father, is fresh and raw and that definitely means that some somber storytelling is going to come into play. Which is why the next episode of the series turned out to be such an unexpected surprise. For ‘The Keepers of the Keys’ broke away from darker storytelling almost entirely, by having two of our suffering characters indulge in a little joy for a change and that definitely changed the tone and the feel of this fascinating series, for the time being. Which isn’t a bad thing by any means, because heaven knows this family has been through enough. So, there was definitely joy to be found in seeing Kinsey and Tyler smiling and enjoying themselves for a change and much of the happiness in this tale was driven by Kinsey. For her decision to put down her fear paid off in spades after all since she was filled with confidence and honesty, to a fault, and this newfound fearless push to live life to the fullest even allowed for her to finally spend a little quality time with Scot. And as an added surprise, she even invited him into her mind where they shared in her memories and their first kiss. As for Tyler, well his joy in this tale seemed to be a direct result of Kinsey’s influence. For if she could go about her day in fearless fashion and get what she wanted in life, why not her brother? And that prompted Tyler to finally ask Jackie out on a date and use the Head Key to try and impress her. Which was quite the unique idea for certain since it informed all of us that elements can be injected into one’s mind via the right keys and really when all is said and done, it was quite refreshing to see the family smiling once again and enjoying everything that life has to offer. But thankfully the story didn’t completely stray from the bigger issues brewing behind the scenes. Because the lady from the Well House returned in this tale to cause more trouble, and this time around she was supremely aggressive in her actions. In fact, she nearly burned the house down in order to get to Bode and the Head Key. And during this harrowing assault on the family and Key House, we came to learn that she cannot just take the keys when they’re in someone’s possession, they have to be willing to give them to her, and now that Bode has learned this valuable lesson, she’s going to have to find another way to get what she wants and that may cause more harm than good. Because she’s prepared to work closely with the young man that murdered Rendell and it should be interesting to see what this unholy alliance will bring forth. In the end however, this really was quite the entertaining episode. Because it really did feature some lovely, lighthearted moments. Plus, it was also nice to see the plot continue to slowly chug along since this tale continued to build upon the mystery of Rendell’s youth and the horrible accident that changed so many lives. And receiving little tidbits about that in every episode thus far, makes it clear that the series is building to something big when it reveals what happened on that fateful night. Either way, this series continues to impress, and it really should be interesting to see how the family bands together to fight their mysterious antagonist, now that she’s made it evident that her attacks are going to become far more aggressive in nature. Until next time. Written by Scott Edwards As we continue to try and get further into space, most people do not know that we have not explored most of our planet yet. That is right, our oceans have yet to be explored completely, while we can see above the surface, we have yet to see everything that is under the waves. Since our planet is mostly water, it is astonishing that we have not tried to explore it further to unlock more of its secrets. But I am not good at diving and my ears consistently pop after moving five hundred feet in altitude, so I may not be the man to help with that. Students Sadie and Ronelle are ready to get their senior project underway with their professor and heading to the Bering Sea to research a pod of Beluga whales seems like the best idea. As Sadie has been able to secure passage on her grandfather’s crabbing ship, the three are ready for an adventure of a lifetime. While boarding, Captain Graff is surprised to see his granddaughter, but none the less, he is ready to take to the high seas to fill up his hull and make another successful haul. While the crabbers mainly work at night, the students and professor will have to work in the day time and it seems like a fair tradeoff for now. When Sadie kicks on her tracking software, she finds that the ship is right on top of the pod that they are tracking. Heading out and using her underwater camera to observe the whale’s behavior, she sees something suspicious in the ice. Allowing Graff to see what it is, he puts the crabbing on hold and cuts the object from the ice. When the frozen mystery is brought on board the ship, they find out that it is a Russian spacecraft and that it has been lost at sea for many years. Agreeing to maritime salvage rights, the space craft is given to Sadie, but her professor, Stephen, is not happy about the turn of events. Being shot down several times by Graff, Stephen has to find a way to get this new find under his name for nothing more than the fame behind it. While the battle on the boat ensues, the crew is able to distract Stephen from the tests that Sadie wants to run on the body. With the outer shell of the spacecraft being burnt to a crisp, Sadie is surprised to find out that the pilot remained in perfect condition. Even though he had been stuck in the ice for over thirty years, he appears to have died yesterday. Running a test on the pilot’s blood, she sees that it is infected with tardigrades that were being tested on in space. Not knowing exactly what she has found, an organism is free on the good ship Harbinger and getting bigger by the minute when it is able to feed on the crew. Needing to find a way to defeat the creature before the boat can make it to shore, the crew is in for another rude awakening when they find out a member of the former Soviet Republic is trying to stop them. I don’t think I can find one thing wrong with this movie and that being said, it is a pretty good one to get lost in. With many characters that you can fall in love with, in the story, you kind of hope that two of them hook up before it all hits the fan. The creature that is released on the boat does not have to have a name, much less a consistent shape since it is able to adapt to any form it chooses. I am not too scientific, but I know enough to know, that if it is true that saltwater hangs on to all of the DNA that dies in it, well, there might be some very interesting things swimming around out there, and more people need to be made aware of that. This movie is just fun and when you get to see someone becoming infected, you will not know what to expect when the creature tries to take over their bodies. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards Once in a while an opportunity presents itself that is too good for anyone to pass up. Being able to change your life for the better makes everyone think twice about what they are doing, but when we are able to make it happen, it is a load off of our shoulders. Needing to keep your eyes open for such an event, it is easy to watch it pass by when it seems too good to be true. With all that happens in our everyday lives, just making sure we are making the most of it and looking forward rather than looking back, is the only way to live. Sarah and Ed are looking for a change in their lives and Ed is very unhappy with his current position at work and needs to do something new. When driving into Scotland to see a house that is well within their price range, they both get to see how beautiful the Scottish countryside is and that is why they are on this endeavor. Arriving at the house, they find that it is far off of the beaten path but will not let that deter them from their goal of starting over. Hearing that the locals are not able to afford the price, it is the couples for the taking if they want it and Sarah has to do some heavy convincing to get Ed to bend and buy the house. Selling their flat in London, the couple moves into their new home without a care in the world. Knowing that the house is full of history since the land has always had some sort of structure on it since the early 1300s, they expect to hear some strange things now and again. While Sarah is able to build a new plug for her lamp, she winds up shorting out the fuse box leaving the house as dark as night. Even though she is not traditionally afraid of the dark when the night moves in, she is starting to hear strange things outside of the house. Waking Ed up, the couple head out to investigate and find that there is a wild pig in their yard making the strange shrieking sounds. Knowing that there is nothing to be afraid of, Ed continuously torments Sarah by playing afraid of the dark gags on her, but she is visibly shaken over what has already happened. Waking up a couple hours later, Sarah hears the door downstairs open and footsteps on the floor. Waking up Ed once again, the couple walk through the first level of the house to find nothing again, but now Sarah knows that there is something strange happening in her new home. When Ed is sent downstairs to get some candles, he is able to repair the fuse box restoring power but does not come back up to bed. Sarah believes that her husband is just messing around with her again, but when she sees strangers walking around her house looking for her, she knows that he has been taken and needs to find him before something really bad happens. With time against her, Sarah finds places to hide around the property while the masked men try to locate her, and when she finds out where Ed has been imprisoned, all bets are off on what she will do. There are movies out there that have a minimal cast that blow you away and this is one of them. With only the two main characters to follow for a majority of the story, you get to see how they grow up close and personal without a break in the story. I liked how Ed was never one to give up on who he was and even after being taken is more worried about his lovely bride than anything else. Even though Sarah was more on the run when her house was broken into, she has enough power to take care of herself and to follow what is most important to her, her husband. This is just a solid movie, one that features two good characters fighting for their lives against an unknown number of stalkers that are looking to do something sinister to them, they just do not know what. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards Sometimes you need to stick with your convictions, no matter what they are. If you let go of your goals, you could find yourself falling back into the same declining spiral that you have been trying to get out of for so long. It does not matter what you think will happen, even if you step away from them for even a day, you will find out that it will set you back even further. Keep your eyes open and on the prize at the end of the tunnel, because if you don’t claim it, someone else will. Julia has just inherited her father’s catering business and is afraid that she is going to lose it. Without any supervision, she is in charge and wants to make sure that it does not fold with her in the driver’s seat. With her friend and only employee Paul, she knows that she and the business are in trouble, but there are still job offers, so she is able to keep herself afloat. Driving out to the Perch estate to cater a rich folk dinner party, she knows that there is no chance for messing up. While Paul is out setting up the tables, chairs and bar for the event, he is starting to get pestered by wasps that are as big as his fist. Not knowing what has excited them, he goes along with his job of pouring drinks for the guests and finds that not all of them are there for the same reason. When Sydney Perch gives his thank you speech for everyone that has decided to come, Paul and Julia meet Governor Caruthers who will be needing them to cater one of his events as well. Thinking that everything is going to get better, Julia steps into the wasps’ nest and releases them on all of the guests. When a guest falls sick to a sting, the party comes to a halt, but little do the guests know what is about to happen next. Watching as the party goer’s body convulses in pain, a new breed of wasp is unleashed, and it is much bigger than a fist. While everyone tries to find cover from the bug attack, the stung guests turn into the larger predators and have the need to feed on their human counterparts. Being able to hide in the basement, Paul, Julia, Caruthers and Sydney need to find a way to escape the oversized menace that has taken over the estate. Finding out that Sydney is responsible for the outbreak, combining fertilizer with his father’s growth hormone pills, the group starts to understand their fate. But Sydney has a secret of his own and being stung on his hump is providing him with a different outlook on life than the others. In a race against time, Paul and Julia have to find a way out of the hive before they become its next victims. You ever need to laugh about how the term wasps is used, this is the movie for you since WASPS are killed off by actual wasps. Each character has their own motivation and none of them are the same which makes this movie a little bit special. As Sydney seems to go through all of the emotions, it comes clear that he just wants somebody to love him for who he is. While Paul wants to make his move on Julia before time runs out and has to show what he is made of against the flying beasts that are looking to kill and eat everyone. I really enjoyed the awkward interactions between Paul and Julia since Paul does not seem to understand how to put on the moves, and when he tries, Julia pretty much shuts him down before he can say another word. The effects are solid in this movie and the blood, oh the blood flows like nothing you have ever seen before. A can of RAID won’t be able to take these flying beasts down, you have to find something a little bit more flammable, but you will understand why when the end of the movie hits the screen. YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.Over the course of its illustrious ten-year run, The Walking Dead has introduced some incredibly vile and twisted villains for our heroes to face off against. The kind that quite frankly put worry into the minds of every TWD fan as to whether or not Rick and his friends and family would survive the various plans of these wicked individuals. And while many of the final battles between Team Rick and the various members of the Legion of Living Dead Doom ended in costly fashion, the good guys and gals always came out on top, and there is oddly enough, a solid reason for their victories in that; they always held onto their humanity and used it in their time of need. Because the gang always held steadfast to the fact that there was a better way, a peaceful way, and they never once folded or let the enemy get under their skin, giving them the upper hand when the baddies tried to break them. In fact, their ability to hold together and work as one, frustrated their enemy into making a mistake more often than not and in the end, that’s quite the wonderful way to handle these ugly battles. For it keeps our heroes pure, and it makes them a beacon of hope. But as season nine and ten have continued along, the show is beginning to pose some interesting questions to the audience, specifically; can the good people of Alexandria and Hilltop stay infallible forever? Or is it possible to break them and bring the worst parts of them to the surface? As it turns out, the season ten midseason premiere took the time to address both of those questions and sadly, the answers ‘Squeeze’ provided us with are unsettling to say the least. For this particular tale made it clear that these intrepid survivors, who have been through hell together; do indeed have a breaking point. The kind that would motivate them to stoop to the lowest levels imaginable. But before we dig too deeply into that, let’s take a moment and celebrate the fact that this was actually one intense tale. The kind that quite frankly left you on the edge of your seat and this really was quite the impressive feat when all is said and done. If anything, it has been a little while since we’ve seen some genuine horror on this show, the kind where the dead are a horrifying and unsettling threat. And being in the dark with the dead, and the Whisperers, and not knowing if either monster was waiting in the shadows made for an eerie experience. Something that was only enhanced further by the fact that the threats kept coming from out of nowhere and that almost led to the loss of a character. For in a stroke of genius storytelling, Jerry and everyone else in the cave were forced to push through a tiny opening in the hopes of escaping, with walkers hot on their tails and that was simply the stuff of nightmares, as was watching Jerry comes within mere inches of losing his life to a bite. Oddly enough, the scares bring us right back around to the all-important questions we discussed a little bit ago. Because above all else, there is one reason and one reason alone as to why this group found themselves facing such trouble, and that would be Carol. For it was her desire to make Alpha pay for her crimes in vengeful fashion that led them into this cave in the first place and at long last, Daryl was finally ready to confront Carol about her behavior. And it was quite refreshing to see him call her out for endangering her life and the lives of others with this angry quest for revenge, and it seemed as though his blunt honesty finally reached her. But alas, Carol’s pain and fury run deep and sometimes, it takes a grave mistake to finally see the error of one’s ways, and she most certainly made one of those. For when she was presented with some ancient and sweaty dynamite, she saw another opportunity to stick it to Alpha and the Whisperers by blasting half of the horde to bits. And of course, she took it upon herself to do so in solo fashion and had it not been for Daryl, her attempt at payback would have ended with her death. But regardless of this heroic and poignant moment, the damage from her decision was devastating for certain. For the dynamite did indeed go off, and the resulting shockwave nearly buried everyone and in a chaotic escape, Connie and Magna were left buried beneath the dirt, all because Carol gave into the darkness and the anger in her heart and her tears show us that she finally understands that Alpha got the better of her, and what she does with that information going forward, is crucial to her redemption. What’s truly amazing about that heartbreaking ending though, is the sheer fact that it demonstrates that Alpha is quite possibly the ugliest villain that our heroes have ever faced. Because she has no shred of humanity left within her, no sense of fear, meaning that everything our heroes have used to win in the past mean nothing here. And to top it all off, she really does indeed know how to shatter a human’s spirit and get exactly what she wants from them, as evidenced by the strangest ‘love scene’ ever with Negan. But what matters more here, is that beating someone who knows people’s weaknesses before they do, could be an impossible task and with everyone infighting and shivering with fear at the Whisperers, her next strike could be a costly one. Either way, this really was one hell of a way to kick off the back half of season ten. For this particular tale was terrifying through and through and it was just magnificent to see scenes that leave your heart racing once again. But truly, the fallout of Carol’s vendetta is what matters the most in this midseason premiere. Because it really seems that only Daryl is in her corner right now, and even that is on shaky ground, and her return to Alexandria will be met with shame and doubt. Which means it is now up to Carol to pull herself out of the darkness and find a way to join the cause in proper fashion and she will have a lot of work to do in the days to come, as will the people of Alexandria and Hilltop. Because slowly but surely, they’re reaching their breaking point with everything Alpha is pulling off and it is going to take a miracle to bring them all together before it is too late. Until next time. Written by Scott Edwards Starting a new job can be difficult in so many ways. Getting to know your new coworkers might be the hardest thing to do, however. Not knowing what makes them tick and what you can say around them that will not offend them is always the hardest thing for me, since I like to remain open and add a little bit of off-color humor to most situations. Watching how your new work family interacts with each other can be one of the best ways to get a feel for them, but when they remain distant from you, well, you will have to jump in and make your presence known, if for no other reason, just so they know that you are there. Jessica Loren is preparing for her first night on duty and after talking to her mother on the phone, she has been guilt tripped into feeling bad. Entering the old station, Officer Loren sees her new Sergeant fighting with something, but has no idea of what. Getting walked through the station, Loren is told that her main assignment for the night is to wait for the Hazmat team to show up and collect all of the old biomedical evidence and not to leave the station. Loren thinks this is beneath her but takes her first assignment with ease and finds ways to pass the time. All is fine until a mysterious phone call comes in from a girl that seems to be in trouble. Not getting any information from the girl, Loren calls the new station to inform them that not all 911 calls are currently being rerouted to them. After hanging up, Loren hears strange things happening in the back of the station and goes to investigate, but with nobody else there, she thinks that she is hearing things. When she gets a knock on the front door, Loren is surprised to see a homeless man in the main entryway, relieving himself on the floor. Kicking the man out, Loren heads off to clean the mess, but the phone starts to ring again. The girl’s name is Monica, but she does not know where she is and thinks that she hears pigs outside and is fearful for her life. Passing the information on to the new station, Loren knowns that she has done the right thing and goes back to passing the time, but there is something strange happening in the station. Talking to a young woman behind the station, Loren finds out that everything she had heard about the case that her father was killed on, was a lie. A group following John Michael Paymon who killed several young girls was not killed at their ranch but were all brought into custody and wound up hanging themselves in their cell before morning. Loren is beside herself when she hears this and although the woman was a stranger, her story made sense. Continuing her night in the station, strange events start happening more frequently and the phone continues to ring off the hook as Monica is trying to get help before her time runs out. Speaking to the dispatch officer at the new station, Loren hears the story about what happened on Paymon’s ranch and now things are starting to come together as Monica was one of the many victims. Needing to find a way to keep her sanity until the Hazmat crew shows up, Loren is forced to see faces from the past and with the only person around to help her being deceased, her sanity is running on fumes. This movie shocked me on so many levels and it is another one that is making up my favorite’s movie list. Only following Officer Loren for a majority of the movie, you get to witness several things happening around the station and wonder if she is right thinking that her new coworkers are playing a prank on her. But the sounds, the voices and the images she witnesses are all relevant to what happened a year ago when the Paymons were brought into the station and they seem to have picked their next victim… or did they. With her father being on the force and killed when the Paymons were arrested, the story is more personal, and Officer Loren wants to do the right thing by following in her father’s footsteps. She is very strong and will not let anyone hold her back, but when it comes to the evil that is hidden inside the walls, she will be tested to the brink of insanity to follow through. I really dig this movie since it does not let up when it comes to the Paymons, much less with something as simple as a phone call from a young woman who is in trouble. Stay Scared! We know some things about what lies beneath those great blue waves, yet so much more remains a mystery. It is that unknown that has led to incredible stories over the years, of treasures untold or incredible beasts that roam the deep. In the case of one such story, the people behind the scenes figured it was high time we made the ocean a place where man and science created their own nightmares in the 1989 science fiction/horror film, Leviathan. In the deep of the ocean, there are riches to be found. The Tri-Oceanic Corporation is working hard to mine silver from the ocean floor and the crew of Shack Seven is nearing the end of their contracted time at the bottom of the sea. But before they return home to enjoy their hard-earned cash, they make a startling discovery, an old sunken Russian vessel is down here with them and the secret it was supposed to keep has been accidentally unleashed upon the crew. Now, a genetic experiment gone wrong aboard the vessel is among the miners and if they don't escape quickly, this abomination will consume them all. Well, there's a quick and clear reason why this film is often considered to be a B Movie...because it's another great idea gone horribly wrong and that is a shame. Because there are some kick ass actors in this movie. Peter Weller, Richard Crenna, Daniel Stern and Ernie Hudson all appear in this film and that alone made me incredibly happy the first time I ever viewed this film, but this is a movie that suffers from a major identity crisis, it doesn't know if it wants to be an homage or an original tale of terror. The idea of a genetic experiment works just fine, especially revolving around the notion of creating a human that can survive in any part of the ocean. But that's about as far as we get with creativity. As soon as the mutation comes aboard the film becomes an attempt to be the next Alien, obviously set underwater, but the scares are just not quite there. In fact, they're obvious at best and that's a shame, because Leviathan had the chance to impress us all with a terrifying story of people being turned into a human/aquatic hybrid and instead the movie went for the easy way out. Is it worth watching? For the fun factor, yes. I mean, we're talking about Peter Weller and Ernie Hudson here and believe me, Ernie has some awesome lines and I left out one thing on purpose until now, the cameo by Meg Foster is awesome as well. But don't expect anything special, this is pretty standard fare in the horror genre but it is definitely a fun way to pass an hour and a half. |
