Written by John Edward Betancourt It is definitely safe to say, that Joe Bob Briggs helped to bring horror into the mainstream. For his work via Monstervision allowed for the cable masses to understand the majesty of horror and how ‘B’ horror movies had value and meaning, and he of course… offered up amazing commentary on every film he showcased and that really did get people thinking about horror on a different level, and they came to properly understand how it can be so much more that spooky yet mindless entertainment. If there is one particular question that we as a species ask, in the most unfortunate manner, it would have to be… why do people turn to evil? Because human beings aren’t born evil, in fact, we are quite cute when we are swaddled and placed in our parents’ arms after tasting oxygen for the first time. And as kids we do some pretty amazing things and make some equally as amazing observations about the world. But somewhere between that cute phase and adulthood, something changes… something that makes some people jaded and eager to cause harm and well… the first chance they can, they do, and they leave us stunned in the process. Because we simply cannot believe they made that decision… or perhaps it is more of a case… of we simply don’t want to see. Which would mean that the answer to our question is right in front of us, in the plainest of sight and well… it is. For it is no secret what turns people evil. It all relates to our life experiences, the interactions we have and how we process that, alongside a lack of something critical to prevent it from taking hold within a person. Thankfully… we are starting to look at what those experiences are, how those interactions turn a soul sour, so we can begin to step in and stop evil before it grows and believe it or not, television and film, and all of popular media really, are offering up stories that help us to understand that, so we no longer feel helpless and can perhaps do something if we came to see evil forming in close proximity. And it just so happens, that new horror feature out there, does just that in a dynamic and entertaining manner in Beneath Us All. A feat that this film accomplishes by introducing us to a young woman named Juile. Who is a good person at heart and wants to do wonderful things in this world but feels trapped and understandably so. For she is also, a foster child that is barreling toward her eighteenth birthday and well… despite having dreams and wants, Todd and Janelle Gibbs, her foster parents… tear her down at every turn. In part because they are rotten human beings, and only care about their interests. But more so because, they believe that Julie is great with her foster-siblings and if she were to stay, she could help them keep those checks coming and raise them herself. Of course, they hint at her having a better life, but that’s all an abusive tactic that leaves Julie lost and worried that her future will be bleak, to keep her in place, and sadly… the only hope she has for a better tomorrow, comes in the form of a stunning discovery. For she has stumbled upon an ancient evil, one that feels a kinship with her and encourages the worst in her. But that makes her feel as though she belongs at last and sadly… if she doesn’t soon realize why this creature is eager to nurture her worst, any hope she has of a better tomorrow will fade.
Which at first glance, appears to be a story that is grounded in concepts of good versus evil and mysticism and the choices we make. And there is merit to that, since the evil in question, Frey, is an ancient Viking monster that feeds upon flesh and of course… is freaking evil. But the devil is in the details here and the answers to our question lie in Julie’s journey and Frey’s actions. Because in essence, Julie is an abused foster child. One that takes verbal abuse nonstop from two trash individuals that should never be near kids. But hey, they’re in it for the money and don’t care what they have to do to get it, and that attitude and that abuse helps us to see how evil is forged in our world. Because little by little, Todd and Janelle snuff out the light in Julie, and replace it with fury and pain. The kind that begins to push her to embrace the dark things that Frey speaks to and offers her. Which allows for her journey to point out to us… that our cruelty, our inability to choose good at all times, creates evil in our world. For the unresolved traumas of the wicked and the bitterness they carry is projected onto the vulnerable who in turn… embrace that vitriol and transform before our eyes. Making this a grand tragedy of sorts, one that exposes a problem in plain sight.
But there was also mention that there is one other contributing factor to this issue, and well… that is explored via the character Rebecca. Who is a social worker hellbent on saving kids and their futures and sadly… she is hamstrung by the system in providing better aid. A move that helps to exacerbate a great deal in this story and also speaks a hard truth. In that, we don’t do enough to protect individuals that are at risk of this kind of abuse or abuse in general, and that too… helps to create ‘evil’ of sorts since so many are left to fend for themselves, nor do they have mental health resources at their disposal. But if we gave professionals like Rebecca the resources, they need… perhaps the world could achieve wonders, and well… all of these elements bring together a supremely cerebral horror story. One that deeply and painfully explores the cycle of abuse and the darkness it engenders that persists in our world, and how we pawn off the work to keep individuals like Julie safe… on folks that don’t have what they need to do so. Giving rise to a sobering story as well, one that showcases some of the modern horrors we are capable of. However, make no mistake about it, there are still traditional horror elements to be found in this story via Frey. Since it is an old school monster, one steeped in vampiric and ghoulish Viking lore and its presence in this film allows for traditional scares to come forth, and it brings forth some scary surprises when it comes to its desire to corrupt Julie. Which means that in the end, this is a magnificent horror film that features something for everyone. For those who want meaning, you’ll find it here by way of the story’s powerful commentary on our modern world and how evil persists and if you’re wanting a good old fashioned horror story, you’ll find that too. Not to mention, you’ll find some fine acting here as well, since Kaiti Wallen brings a real honesty to Rebecca, and Angelina Daniella Cama absolutely sells the tragic conflict within Julie and of course… you can never go wrong with a horror flick that features horror legend Sean Whalen. For he steals the show as the slimy Todd Gibbs in this story, and well… in the end, this is a horror film you absolutely need to see. Because it’s scary, it’s engaging and it leaves you with a lot to ponder upon, when it comes to what an individual can do to quell the evil that is beneath us all. Watch ‘Beneath Us All’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode Three of ‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’. To revisit the previous episode, click here. Also, this piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the series being covered here wouldn’t exist.
It really is quite amazing what The Walking Dead Universe is accomplishing at this moment. For not only are we getting fresh adventures with characters that we love, the kind that are original and exciting, but we are being treated to so much more. For instance, long term hopes and dreams for zombie fans everywhere are coming to fruition through these new chapters, and we are enjoying intimate takes on concepts that are rarely explored in zombie fiction. Not to mention, the stories are epic in nature and scary, and continue to wow us with their scope and well… never were these elements more evident than during last night’s episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon on AMC. Because ‘Paris Sera Tourjours Paris’ took the time to give us all of those things, and it accomplished that feat, by way of one unsettling opening. For the destination that Isabelle wanted Daryl to reach, to use the radio and get the whole ball rolling was a twisted bust. For not only was the radio no longer operational, because its operator felt the need to cannibalize the parts to play music in this silent world once again, but that operator had in essence, lost his mind in isolation. Because he was so obsessed with finding catharsis and beauty through music, that the man straight up took the walking dead from outside his abode and turned them into a twisted orchestra. Wherein they were either mutilated and integrated into certain types of instruments or used to play them in creative ways. Giving rise to a horrifying symphony of living death that left Daryl upset that he did not assert himself harder on just getting to Paris, and well… once Isabelle was satisfied that this trip was fruitless… it was off to the City of Lights. Wherein, we were treated yet again to another moment that zombie fans have outright craved and called for. Specifically, another look at what a big city would look like under the control of the living dead and well… Paris did not disappoint. For it was in essence, a beautifully haunted city of the dead. One that still harbored echoes of its former majestic landscape, since the Eiffel Tower was still standing, but not without its severe scars and damage. Perhaps serving as something of a metaphor for Daryl and the many others that made it through the horrors of the end. Still standing, yet different. And of course, the city in and of itself was an eerie echo of what once was. For it was filled to the brim with corpses that hungered for flesh and that is what brought about its haunted nature, and this really was quite the treat for zombie fans and fans of horror since the franchise continues to support showcasing what the world would look like under the rotten thumb of the walking dead and the wonder of this episode’s world-building didn’t end there.
Because this is a story that also took the time to inform us… what life would look like in another big city years after the dead seized control of everything and well… people would indeed endure. For the group finally caught up with Fallou. A kind gentleman that ran a small community that was hidden away from the prying ears and mottled eyes of the living dead, where people could live in relative safety and well, his community was a success. For so many were in this place and thriving and even new generations were being born here, and of course… in order to find Daryl safe passage back to the remnant of the United States of America, a trip into the city was necessary. One that brought to bear, a nightclub in the middle of the apocalypse. Where people were finding joy in old concepts again and living life without worry for a change and well… these were definitely some epic and delightful moments to enjoy for certain, the kind that were balanced out nicely… by intimate moments.
Specifically, ones that revolved around the importance of confronting our past and how difficult that can be. Because part of the reason that Isabelle did not want to come to Paris, was to avoid dealing with the realities of the past. For this was a city that brought out the worst in her, and it of course, featured a bevy of bad memories about the end of the everything. But… she had no choice but to confront those memories in every sense of the word, for it was the only way to move forward. But also because… some of her echoes were walking around and hoping for a warm bowl of flesh, and while that alone would have been enough to point out how hard it is for us to confront yesterday and how important it is to healing and growth, the show had one more surprise regarding that to send our way, courtesy of that lovely club that she and Daryl ventured to. Because in that place, was perhaps her greatest challenge from her past. For it turned out that her beloved Quinn, the ‘friend’ that tried to help her escape, only to ask her to abandon her sister and her nephew… survived being abandoned on the side of the road and gave this club life and offered promises and favors in getting Daryl home… in exchange for telling Laurent that he was in fact his father. A move that Daryl wanted no part of… just out of principle of never letting someone that offered up such abuse and coldness (because what kind of dad wants to abandon his kid before that child is born?) to have agency or power. But what mattered more, was that Isabelle handled with this grace and strength. For she found agency in returning home, despite her concerns and came to realize that even at the end of the world, there was no escaping what came before, and that it needed resolution, and that made for some powerful storytelling for certain.
But of course, there was mention of scares being present it this tale as well, and those came forth… via people and their capacity for evil. For while all of this was going on, Codron was making waves behind the scenes. Specifically, by planting himself in front of Genet, to inform her that he was the best man to bring in Daryl Dixon and that he would serve her well in Paris going forward. To which she agreed since he had the finest intelligence available regarding Daryl via the trinkets left behind at the monastery and well… when he went to work, terror followed. Because soon he was at the club and used his power to engender fear in the hearts of anyone that looked his way, which of course, prompted Quinn to spill the beans on where Daryl was hiding inside the city. Which of course… brought forth a night of total terror for those good people Daryl and his friends were staying with.
Because just like that, Codron and his men were inside the compound and ransacking the place to find Daryl, and well… it wasn’t long before Daryl was facing real trouble. Since these brutal men had no qualms using guns to try and bring Daryl down, and despite Mister Dixon’s ability to escape detection well, Codron was relentless and more or less… thought like Daryl and was able to find him when Mister Dixon worked to remove himself from the situation. Which led to quite the battle royale between both men, one that ended with more trouble for Daryl when the rooftop he fought upon gave way, sending him deep into an abyss of the unknown. All of which reminded us that the man is the most dangerous monster in this franchise through and through, seconded only by the walking dead themselves… who were also scary here. Since we saw another variant in Paris, a burner with the intelligence and strength of the walkers that the Commonwealth’s army encountered in the final episodes of TWD, and of course, having the City of Lights be populated with ghostly and rotten corpses is chilling in its own right and really, in the end, all of these elements brought forth one amazing episode. One that was epic in scope and powerful to say the least, courtesy of its intimate character moments and the moments of joy present here, and this story also brought us inches closer to understanding why Daryl made one bad decision after another, since we are now aware of the fact that he is harboring some bitterness and pain from something critical happening back home. Which he may need to heal here, in France, and well… all this episode does is leave us as hungry as a walker for more. Because this is just great storytelling, the kind that is putting the best elements of The Walking Dead Universe on display and we simply need more. More of this engaging story and more intimate moments with Daryl Dixon, so we can understand his pain and see him heal from it at last… to have his long-awaited happy ending. Until next time. Caution: This article contains spoilers for the motion picture, ‘The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster’. Also, this piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the movie being covered here wouldn’t exist.
There comes a point in our lives, where we must face a very unsettling truth. In that, we have limited time on this Earth, and eventually… we and everyone we love dearly… will die. We don’t know when that will happen, we don’t know how… but it will happen, and sadly we often face this truth and must reconcile its reality when death comes knocking at our door. Because that really is when the universe makes it clear that we are finite and fragile and well, when we reach this point… everyone goes through quite the unique reconciliation process. Some for instance, quickly come to understand what this means and use the loss in question to live life to the fullest. While others… will take a great deal of time to make peace with death before embracing the wonder of life and there are some… that struggle mightily with this. Because the thought that everything ends and that new chapters in our own story eventually stop being written… can be terrifying in nature, for a bevy of reasons that are quite personal in nature. But these are the folks that we need to worry about when the truth about life is exposed to them. Simply because, these are the folks that will get lost in the fear and do things that are unfortunate in nature to protect themselves and their emotions from the power of loss and the trauma it creates. To the point where they can become lost souls. But sadly, it isn’t always easy to watch over those folks. Because sometimes, they put on a good show and keep their emotions to themselves, or… their living situation doesn’t allow for them to feel anything but a need to move forward. But regardless of the reason, not addressing something so important can result in some kind of disaster, as evidenced by a brand-new feature on Shudder entitled, The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster. Which this film explores, by introducing us to a brilliant teenager named Vicaria who seems to have it all. For she is brilliant, excels in school and everyone that is near her admires her for her tenacity and her intelligence, and they firmly believe she will excel in life once she moves out of the rough neighborhood she currently resides within. But Vicaria is harboring a powerful and dark secret. In that… she is deeply shattered by the loss of her mother and her brother to gang violence in her neighborhood, and because of the nature of her life and the need for her to push forward and carry her own weight in what remains of her family’s household… she has yet to process that pain. To the point where it twists her wondrous mind into believing that perhaps death can be cured, prompting her to experiment with the corpse of her recently deceased brother… to bring him back to life. A move that is successful from a biological standpoint but proves to be costly otherwise since dear Chris… is simply not the same man anymore.
Which is… the perfect plot in which to explore the central theme in question. Because truly, Vicaria is drowning in her grief when we meet her in this story and broken from it and because she cannot reconcile the reality that everything dies and everything ends in this life, or the pain surging through her bones courtesy of the trauma that comes from loss… she becomes a lost soul, a tragedy of sorts that creates all kinds of pain, courtesy of Chris. Who kills with impunity through his worst instincts and his own unresolved anger, which costs Vicaria everything really. All of which is some powerful commentary on how… when we let people slip through the cracks and suffer in silence and let that pain begin to control their thoughts… they become destructive forces. The kind that burn everything down in their lives out of fear and hurt people in the process. Not necessarily in the manner that happens here, but we all understand that living in fear and pushing others away… is no way to live and it can be as devastating as what we saw here. All of which serves to teach us, to confront the pain and reconcile it, and accept that hard truth and live accordingly. Otherwise, the end result will be unfortunate in nature.
Of course… this movie also helps us to learn… to be there for those who are struggling to do this, because they are indeed in need of that helping hand and since we’re all in this together, there’s no harm in being kind in that manner. Yet what is genuinely fascinating about this motion picture, is that it offers so much more than mere commentary on our struggles with mortality. For this is also, a Black Horror feature, and it definitely includes observations and commentary regarding the Black Experience in America, and that too… is powerful and poignant. Since it speaks to the violent relationship between Black communities and local police departments, and how Black communities are ignored and punished through systemic racism, and how that ignorance helps to give rise to problems in Black communities, as spoken to by the heavy of the film. If anything, all of those elements combine to create one poignant and powerful horror feature. One that yes, is supremely scary as well. Courtesy of Chris the zombie, since he represents all of our fears regarding death and inspires the horrors that can come forth when we don’t resolve our issues. Plus, the horrors of the world are put on display here as well through the unsavory men that sow chaos in Vicaria’s neighborhood, and we’re also treated to some uncomfortable and nauseating gore. All of which makes this… a must-see horror film. For it is timely, intelligent, and creepy and supremely thoughtful. For it does indeed remind us of that which we cannot escape and the importance of using that reality to live life to the fullest… so that we aren’t lost to the world in a manner that is far worse than death itself. One particular truth about love that no one enjoys learning, is the sheer fact that love… can keep us from seeing certain truths about the person we adore. For the soaring feeling it installs in our souls, and the hope it engenders prompts us to not think about red flags and/or toxic behavior. It just prompts us to forge ahead in the belief that love can and will fix all things, when in fact… that puts on a path to disaster. One that ends in heartbreak, and eventually, that lesson in question. But that of course, begs some important questions for those who have yet to experience this aspect of love. In that, how then do we learn that lesson? What has to happen to see it clearly so we can never deal with that kind of emotional rollercoaster ride ever again? Well, it just so happens, that the next episode of The Changeling on Apple TV+ offers up answers to those very questions in a supremely fascinating and unique manner. For ‘This Woman’s Work’ was a story that made sure to point out… that in order to heal… and learn this lesson… we absolutely have to steer clear of anything related to that ugly relationship. Because what we often forget about love, the kind that in essence, fools us into thinking it is the end all be all, is that it needs time to fade, and we need time to learn how to love ourselves and be free of that co-dependency we harbor for the person and the emotion. Otherwise, it’s easy to let it surge through us again and start a toxic cycle anew. Wherein we find reasons to justify why perhaps they deserve agency or a second chance, and that… just keeps us in a dark and unfortunate place. One that Apollo slipped back into in this story. Because eventually, Cal let him out of his cell and worked to help him understand the sanctuary’s purpose and what made Emma turn upon her child and do the unthinkable. Which was… everything that Apollo has been searching for since things went south on that fateful day, and well… the story that Cal sold to help him ‘comprehend’ was both dangerous and unsettling. Because she spoke of a world where mysticism was real. Where creatures that lurked in the shadows would sometimes make their way into the real world and replace children and people to taste our lives and sow chaos, and well… Emma knew this, and came to believe little Brian was one of these creatures. And the only way to save the family from certain otherworldly doom… was to put him down. And well, since Apollo was still in that vulnerable state, and eager to find good in Emma and something to love about her… he bought this hook line and sinker. To the point where he began to believe in this evil, especially when Dear William… began to act as though he was something from another world. All of which spoke to how important it is to step away from those emotions and those feelings, or we will find ourselves in an equally as lost and lovelorn place, one that will lead to more trouble and heartbreak. But what made this lesson so fascinating, is that it continued the show’s proud tradition… of messing with the audience. Because the flashbacks we saw of Emma seeing things that were weird regarding Brian, and of course, William’s creepy turn here… leaves us wondering… was Emma telling the truth? And that the mystical nature of this series isn’t about a coping mechanism? Or were we simply privy to an exploration regarding mental health, wherein we watched the collapse in real time and Apollo is indeed being sucked into something disastrous and evil by needing to find the love he craves from Emma? Time will tell regarding those questions, but that aside, all of those elements made for one engaging and thoughtful tale. One that truly offered up a bevy of fascinating concepts and moments. Since we so rarely see this story’s core commentary regarding love on display in visual storytelling, and regardless of which camp you fall into regarding whether or not this story is indeed mysticism come to life, one cannot deny that its look at Emma’s struggles and William’s off behavior, spoke to the realities that accompany mental health breakdowns and post-partum depression. If anything, this was just a powerful story about three broken people and how hard it is to pick up the pieces of anything when our pain is fresh, and it will be fascinating to see what other amazing lessons, and creepy surprises and big reveals await us… as we continue to follow Apollo through the painful and powerful world, he is now a part of. Until next time. Watch ‘The Changeling’

One particular streamer that we’ve been talking about often here at NTG, as of late, is Shudder, and with good reason. Because with spooky season mere days away, Shudder has kicked their release announcements for the season into overdrive and rightfully so. For they are the top horror streamer out there and want their loyal fans to know what ghoulish delights await them, and well… it just so happens that they are once again top of mind today, courtesy of another incredible announcement (one with a partner, no less) regarding their FearFest lineup. One that involves a modern franchise that horror fans have fallen deeply in love with. For earlier, Shudder, and Terror Films Releasing, let it be known that 10/30/23 will see the fourth chapter in the iconic Hell House LLC franchise, Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor, debut on the network. But not before it swings by the prestigious Telluride Horror Festival and the IFC Center Theater, and well… as Shudder is wont to do… that’s not all they sent our way today. Because Shudder knows horror fans need more than just a date drop. Which is why they also released a trailer for the film, to give everyone an idea of how incredible this new chapter is going to be. And well, since you’re eager to sample the next chapter, here are all the details on this release, details regarding the film’s screening at The Telluride Horror Festival and the IFC Center Theater, and that trailer (courtesy of Shudder and Terror Films Releasing), to properly prepare you… for the horrors that await us on “Devil’s Night.” ‘After months of hints from TERROR FILMS RELEASING across social media, the official trailer, poster and release date for writer / director Stephen Cognetti’s “HELL HOUSE LLC ORIGINS: THE CARMICHAEL MANOR” is finally here and there is a lot to unpack. The long-awaited fourth film within Cognetti’s popular Hell House LLC franchise will debut as an official selection at the 14th annual TELLURIDE HORROR SHOW, from October 13 to 15, followed by its exclusive streaming debut on Shudder on October 30, during the streamer’s “Devil’s Night” premiere. The film will also screen at the IFC Center theater on Tuesday, October 24 in New York as part of the Shudder Showcase, a monthly series that serves up special advance screenings of some of the leading genre platform's most exciting and provocative upcoming titles. Cognetti is set to attend both Telluride and IFC Center, participating in a Q&A after each screening. Fans interested in purchasing tickets to the festival and showcase, can visit: Telluride Horror Show: www.telluridehorrorshow.com Shudder Showcase at IFC Center: www.ifccenter.com/series/shudder-showcase/ “Although this is the fourth film in the Hell House LLC series, I want fans to know that this is not a ‘part 4’ or a prequel. In making the Carmichael Manor, I wanted to create an original story within the Hell House LLC universe yet set it in the present day instead of making a precursor to the original trilogy. As a filmmaker, the Carmichael Manor allowed me to explore some of the themes and origins from the hotel’s mythology, while introducing new characters and mysteries surrounding the events that took place in 1989 in a stand-alone origin story, one of several I hope to create,” stated Cognetti. The story takes place in 2021 and follows a group of internet sleuths who travel to the remote Carmichael Manor. Located deep in the woods of Rockland County, New York, the estate is the site of the infamous 1989 Carmichael family murders that have gone unsolved to this day. What they discover are secrets that have been hidden away for decades and a terror that has been lurking in the shadows long before Hell House. The film is produced by Joe Bandelli, with Joe Dain and Jim Klock executive producing for Terror Films Releasing. Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor will be available to anyone with a Shudder or AMC+ subscription in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, Spain and Portugal. For fans who don’t yet have a subscription, Shudder offers a 7-Day free trial however, Terror Films Releasing has teamed with Shudder to offer this special promo code: HELLHOUSELLC4 The code will be good for a 14-Day Free Trial from the date activation, but this special code expires on October 21, 2023, so be sure to activate it before October 21 but no earlier than October 18 to catch the premiere of Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor on October 30. It is definitely safe to say, that season one of the SYFY series, SurrealEstate, was nothing short of a breath of fresh air when it premiered upon the network. Simply because it features a unique premise for a supernatural themed show. Since we really haven’t ever seen a group of paranormal specialists, working hard to clean houses filled with sinister things so they can go on the market and sell successfully. Not to mention, there is a real human element to the show as well via its dynamic characters and all of those elements, prompted so many of us to tune in and our enjoyment of the show landed it a second season. One that is approaching fast and to properly build excitement for year two of this dynamic series, SYFY was kind enough today to drop some first-look images from the season two premiere of the series, alongside a synopsis as well, to prepare us for what lies ahead when we tune in on October 4th to enjoy this refreshing show once again. And well, since you’re a fan, and eager to get a sampling of what the Roman Agency will be dealing with in a few weeks… here is that synopsis and a sampling of those images for you to enjoy, courtesy of SYFY. “Trust the Process” Premieres Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 10 p.m. ET/PT Without his special powers, Luke struggles to handle an engaged property by instinct alone. Meanwhile, Susan falls in love at first sight with a mysterious home that has a special power over her. “SurrealEstate” stars Tim Rozon, Sarah Levy, Adam Korson, Maurice Dean Wint, Savannah Basley and Elena Juatco. Written by John Edward Betancourt Something that is genuinely fascinating about the Halloween season, is that for decades on end, it has been filled to the brim with horror icons that offer us a unique spooky experience. For instance, Svengoolie, Elvira and Chilly Billy Cardille, took the time to showcase the majesty of horror and how it was so diverse in nature, and over the past few decades, Joe Bob Briggs has shown us how best to examine horror’s deeper meaning through his work on Monstervision and The Last Drive-In, and now… the Boulet Brothers take the time during spooky season to celebrate horror in the most unique and inventive way possible… through drag. Which is art through and through and expressive enough to showcase the wonder of horror and its emotional impact upon us and its power and importance in storytelling, and by showcasing it via a drag competition show, every sub-genre can be explored. Which has made The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula, nothing short of a revolution and a revelation and well… the good news is… they’re about to return to us this spooky season to school us once again on all things horror. For earlier today, Shudder announced the release date for season five of Dragula. Which just so happens to be Halloween night, and well… here are all the details regarding season five of the greatest drag competition show out there. With season 5, we are beginning a new and innovative new chapter of the show, and we’ve retooled and updated the format in an incredibly exciting way.” Says Dracmorda, one half of the Boulet Brothers duo. “Nobody is going to sail the ship with more passion than us, so we’ve taken over as the show’s directors for season 5, and we’ve brought in some incredibly talented new team members who are really elevating what you will see on-screen,” says Swanthula, the other half of the Boulet Brothers. “We’re going back to basics with the format, and focusing on the competition element of the show, the incredible artists that we’ve cast and the out-of-this-world looks they create each week, and of course, drag artists doing insanely terrifying and shocking physical challenges on tv. This is the best-looking season of the show yet, and I can’t wait for fans to see these new competitors. They are truly the most impressive drag artists I have ever seen on-screen.” “We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with The Boulet Brothers to bring Shudder subscribers an all-new season of their beloved Dragula, which is set to be bigger and more outrageous than ever,” said Courtney Thomasma, EVP of Streaming for AMC Networks. “Can’t think of a better way to celebrate Halloween – one of our very favorite days of the year – and to keep the season alive and the party going for the rest of the year!” The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula has become must-see television for horror, drag and reality fans alike.
