Written by Scott Edwards Our families are great resources to find out where we came from and what to expect in the future. But knowing that they will always try to tell us what we need to know, there could be things that they leave out so that we can learn them for ourselves. It may seem like a dirty trick for them to pull, but for the most part, it is to help develop us into the people we strive to be. There is no way in knowing what we will encounter in our lives, so you must be prepared by the teachings that have been offered, at least they will give you a tiny bit of a road map moving forward. The Wolf Lady on the bad side of town has been found dead in front of her home. Seeing that she killed herself, Sheriff Adam wants to try to keep it quiet until he is able to talk to her granddaughter Samantha, but she is nowhere to be found. But a bigger problem is revealing itself around the town as wolf attacks are on the rise for no reason. Seeing a friend get killed in front of his very eyes, Danny fears for the worst about his missing girlfriend Samantha and tries everything in his power to find her before she becomes one of the victims. Sheriff Adam has no idea what is happening around his town and why the wolves would be coming out the woodwork and killing for no reason. Getting a search party put together, Adam wants to get the problem under wraps before the entire town starts to freak out. Being able to locate one wolf, the party is able to put it down, but little do they know that it is a trap. Being attacked by several other wolves, the search party is on the brink of being killed off, but a stranger appears in the woods who does not seem to like the wolves as well. Killing any wolf in her way, the undead looking girl saves the day for the survivors, but now they are forced to come to terms with what they are dealing with and how to stop it. You read the title of this movie and you may think that it is a story about Little Red Riding Hood and you can see an aspect of this in the movie, but instead of heading to grandmother's house, she destroys the menace. Watching the rebirth of Samantha into something much more powerful than she ever was when being alive, she still has to find out why she has been brought back to the land of the living. Her boyfriend Danny is happy to help, but fears for the worse, especially since he has been witness to seeing what the wolves in the area have done to his friends. Talking a walk down the supernatural path, the wolves in the area are bigger and stronger than any hybrid the town’s people have ever seen before and with a new den mother taking over the pride, the band of werewolves can only be stopped by the one person who was born into destiny. Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM. YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISKAt first glance, it would seem that the new Freeform series, Motherland: Fort Salem has done its best to shy away from any heavy social commentary on our modern world and it makes sense as to why. After all, this is a show about a world where a Witch Army just so happens to be the most powerful fighting force on Earth. And really, the only commentary present there is that America still has its appetite for war in this alternate world; regardless of who is leading the charge. But as it turns out, this series has been preparing to offer some serious commentary on war and America’s might for when the time is right and last night’s episode of this fascinating series, served as the perfect moment to bring it to the forefront of the story. For ‘Mother Mycelium’ took the time to explore how others view the Witch Army, and in turn our own and this analysis turned out to be incredibly fascinating when all is said and done. For so many see the American War Machine as nothing more than a force of catastrophic nature, since the Witches leave great damage in their wake, something that Adil was eager to explain to Abigail while he waited for his sister to heal. And Scylla’s interrogation revealed that the Spree view the Witch Army as a roadblock for all of Witch kind to rule over everyday humans and all of this information truly resonated in familiar fashion, since there are so many people in everyday life, who see our fighting forces as a scourge or an obstacle to their respective goal. But while that exploration alone would have been enough to carry this story, this episode also took the time to look at the flip side of all of that. Since there are also a great many people out there who view the Witch Army and our own forces, as legitimate liberators and saviors of nations that are in desperate need of help, and those respective concepts were explored by way of Abigail’s unit. Because she worked hard to show Adil that there are witches who want to make the world a better and safer place and there was no better way to prove this, than by having the finest healer in the corps help his sister, and thankfully, Raelle’s powers did just the truck and saved that young life from an unsettling illness. But despite Abigail’s best efforts to win this young man over, Adil and Khalida still had reservations, with good reason. Which brings us to the most cerebral aspect of the night. For while the show was quick to present the pros and the cons of modern armies in an industrialized world, it also took the time to remind us of something that cannot be debated. In that, a war machine is just that, and once it gets rolling it cannot be stopped and that’s why Adil and Khalida were hesitant to share their songs since they would be weaponized for the war effort, and it is that effort that led to the most powerful sequence of the night. For Anacostia used Raelle and Scylla’s love to get the intel that she needed, speaking volumes to how far one side will go to win the war and while this will eventually bring about consequences, in the here and the now, it would seem that the war effort is about to take the fight to the Spree. For all of these intrepid witches have been ordered to conduct their first combat drop and there’s strong implication that they’re headed to the Spree stronghold that Anacostia discovered, and sadly we will have to wait until next week to see if that is the case. But while we wait for that particular answer and the fallout of some bold actions, we can take a moment and continue to bask in the wonder of one incredible episode. For this one was filled to the brim with intelligent and thoughtful storytelling, and strong performances and surprises all around. Either way, it’s clear now that season one of this magnificent series is building toward something big, and it should be interesting to see how everything comes together as we close in on what should be an explosive season finale. Until next time. Written by Scott Edwards It can be difficult to grow up in a small town, mostly because everyone is in everyone else’s business. Sometimes you need to be alone without the town judging you for having a bad day, but that never seems to happen. Many people love the small-town atmosphere, it has a great appeal to it, but when you need to get away from it, you really need to get away. Some people will never leave these towns, like their parents before them, but there are some that cannot wait to leave the small town behind and head into the big world and see what it has to offer. No choice is wrong, I know that I would have to bolt, as I am never happy with being complacent, but I know many that would love to stay. When Jackson arrives in town, everybody thinks he is strange and dirty, but Emily does not judge him on his looks and takes a liking to him. As the two battle through school together, they see the good and the bad, but mostly the bad. Being outcasts in the town makes them easy targets to be picked on and abused. But there is only so much that the two can take and when being challenged in the locker room, Jackson finally snaps and is able to defend himself against the young men looking to start a fight. Taking one boy's thumb, Jackson is kicked out of school and finds a new calling from his court appointed mentor, guns and shooting, Not seeing each other for a couple months, Emily is surprised to hear from her oldest friend. With Jackson’s father passing away, the house is turned over to him and with his fantastic mental strides, he is ready to live life to the fullest. But when Emily comes over and he shows her detailed plans to their school so he can teach everyone there a lethal lesson, Emily finds out that he is just as unstable as before. Forcing him to do this on his own, Jackson arrives at the school, with gun in hand and is ready to rock and roll. When seeing the students walking out however, Jackson folds and the police arrive before any damage is done. Emily sees it happen on the news and being the stronger of the two decides to honor her friend the only way she knows how. With the entire town being against the two, it is next to impossible to know who the targets will be, but there will be a bloodbath. This is a really well told story about two outcasts that believe they were forced to go above and beyond what a rational person would do to fight off the baddies. I know that killing those who have made your life a living hell is not the answer, but this town is shown to have problems of its own. When Jackson defends himself in a fight, he gets thrown out of school. When Emily is assaulted by the football team, the police will not even listen to her and give the Principal authority over the case to keep the team in check. The movie stays on point and even though you spend much of it getting to know your characters, it does not move that slow. And when the finale begins, you do not regret anything that you have just seen. As Emily and Jackson have been dealing with this their entire lives, I can understand that they did not need a trigger for what they are about to do, they just see no other recourse than to end the madness once and for all. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards One of the things that I love studying is history, but not just the dates of when something happened, no, I mean more of the strange history that people do not learn in school. Like when world leaders found out about aliens landing on earth, what civilizations believe in and why. There is so much more to what happened in our past that is not covered in our history books and finding out just a couple of different facts may help you unlock what happened back then along with the main reason behind it. There is nothing wrong with taking a look beyond what you read in school and finding a different perspective, or looking into what someone else has uncovered, since there is more to who we have become that is far from covered in the conventional readings. Frankie Paige is in love with her life and being a free spirit, she has nothing to worry about. Although she is a couple weeks late with her period, she thinks everything is all right, but she is worried that she may be pregnant. Her friend Donna is always there with a shoulder to cry on if needed, but Frankie does not give into this as often as she should. Getting a package from her mother who is traveling on a cruise, Frankie gets all kinds of knick knacks from the region, including Rosary beads that belonged to a priest in the area that recently passed away. Thinking little about this since she is not catholic, the beads get tossed to the side, but little does she know what is store for her when a spirit is awakened that she knows nothing about. Father Andrew Kiernan is the Vatican’s scientist that is sent around the world to prove or disprove the existence of divine interventions. As most of the events that he is sent to investigate are fake or normal acts of nature, he stumbles upon a little church where their priest has just died, and the statue of the Virgin Mary is producing tears of blood. Not being able to make a solid judgement if this is real, he takes his findings back to the Vatican only to be put on a different case altogether. A report has come in about a young woman in America suffering from stigmata, and he is forced to follow through and see if it is really happening or if the woman is just trying to get attention. Relaxing after a long day, Frankie settles into her bath and lets the day just soak away. Trying to be able to feel if she is pregnant or not, she is suddenly thrust under the water as nails are driven through her wrists. Being found by her friend Donna, Frankie is taken to the emergency room only to be treated like she tried to commit suicide. As her wrists will not heal, her back is whipped by an unseen force while on the subway. Seeing this happen before his very eyes, Father Durning puts a call into the Vatican to get someone on the case right away as the woman is in danger of losing her life. Meeting Father Kiernan, Frankie comes clean about not being religious, but her stigmata continues to get worse as the days go by. As the process leaves five wounds on the person that is experiencing it, each one leads to the final, which is a spear to the side, resulting in death. With Father Kiernan’s help, Frankie will have to try and find out the cause of this before she winds up like everyone else who has experienced it, only to die for their beliefs. This movie holds a special place in my heart since I have had some incredible debates over it and if it really had any religious merit. I am beyond that now and try to focus more on the story that was being told. The giving of one life to save another is what has to happen to make the story work and knowing that Frankie does not believe in the Almighty, Father Kiernan has a special place in his heart for her and will do anything to save her from her impending doom. Frankie and Father Kiernan are great together on the screen and I think that is what I liked most about this movie, just two normal people from different backgrounds looking for one thing. Even when time is running out, they are still caring for one another and if they can do it, being completely different people, anyone can. This movie still grabs me whenever it is on and even if the facts are not all correct, the story captures you, the way it should. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards Sometimes it is difficult to find things to do while on vacation. If you are like me, you check out the normal sites and that is it, but there is much more to the areas that you visit that can lead to more memorable adventures. I enjoy checking out the local history and stories about what happened, especially in small towns since they usually have more to share that is not mainstream. While I try to get to know more about the towns, others prefer to see amazing things that they would never be able to see at home. To each their own, but just remember that getting too far off of the beaten path could lead to an adventure that you did not expect. Scott and Steph are the last to the party that has just started in Panama. With their friends waiting for them on the beach, the two are trying to enjoy their time away from the real world. When meeting up with their friends Elena, Charlie and Trevor, the group enjoys a heavy night of drinking and wind up making a couple of new friends. Carmen and Julio are locals that really enjoy their time with the Americans and want to keep the party going, especially when it comes to the local sights. But Panama has been holding onto a secret for many years that the Americans want to check out and with the promise of a great waterfall and an untouched lake under it, it is more than they can pass up. Although Julio makes his friend Carmen promise not to take the Americans into the jungle to see this for fear of them getting lost, or worse, killed, she ignores the request and takes her new friends in. Finding the waterfall is not a difficult feat and as the group splits up to have some private time together, they quickly find out that there is something lurking in the bushes. Local legend says that a Chupacabra roams the forest and feeds on anyone that enters, but thinking that this is just a myth, the group has no idea what they are in for. Being picked off one by one, the group is quickly diminished to Scott, Steph and Elena. Utilizing the new app he has developed, Scott has sent out a message for help and even though it goes viral, will help come soon enough to save them from the mythical creature that is hunting them down? If I keep watching horror movies that take place in Mexico or Central America, I may never make my way back down there. One of the things that I love about this region is the history and beliefs that many people do not want to give credence to. The Chupacabra creature was great in this movie, but I am unsure if there is only one, or a band of them roaming in the jungle and that makes it pretty scary in my mind. The group dynamic is good in this movie since they are all friends, but at some points, you can tell that they are fed up with each other’s problems, just like real life. I would have never thought that an app that is still in beta mode would be able to make its rounds around the world, but it is amazing to see how social media might be able to save someone in trouble, even if they are being chased by a monster or anything else. Julio really stole the show when he is able to tell his story about what lives in the jungle that has been untouched for a lifetime and what fears it has given to the locals. This just goes to show that locals might have a better idea what is happening around their homes than we do, so we might need to listen a little bit more. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards One thing that I would love to do in my lifetime is to live in a haunted house. They have always amazed me over the years, and I think one would be the perfect fit for me. I don't want to be frightened; but knowing that there is something on the other side, well, that would be pretty amazing. But I would want a nice haunting, like the kind where things get put back in their place if left out, not like smacking me around or waking me up in the middle of the night. I don’t think you really get a choice in this, but I am thinking and hoping for a ghost more like Casper than John Wayne Gacy. After the loss of her husband, Kathy has been able to find love once again and George is happy to be that man. Getting along fine with her kids, George will be the perfect father figure for them, but the kids still miss their actual dad. Knowing that this will not change for some time, George plays it loose and just tries to be their friend instead of a father as to not tarnish the deceased's memory. As their current house is too small for everyone that is living there, Kathy and George decide to give a new listing on the market a look. Being in their price range is one thing, but when they see the house, George knows that there has to be a catch since it is a lot of house for so little money. Finding out that the previous family was murdered in the house a year before does not deter Kathy or George and they bring the kids and move right in. As everything seems to be fine in the house on the first night, George catches a little chill and has to stoke up the furnace. Not truly knowing what secrets are hidden inside of the walls of the house, the family goes about their daily business as normal. Even young Chelsea has made a new imaginary friend in the house, Jodie is her name. Thinking that it is just kids being kids, little attention is paid to this until Chelsea gets herself on the roof and is going to jump. Crying about how much she misses her father, Kathy tries to console her daughter, but George is not having it and wonders why he is staying with this crazy family. The house has taken its hold on George, changing his attitude and destroying his health, and nobody else is affected. But when George and Kathy go out on a date and the babysitter starts rekindling old memories about the house, it starts to come alive. Blaming Jodie for getting her fired, Billy challenges the young woman to stay in the closet where Jodie’s body was found. Getting trapped in the closet while the house comes to life, the babysitter is taken out on a stretcher, but that is the least of what the house is about to do. Kathy knows that her family is being torn apart and after a priest comes into bless the house and leaves without explanation, Kathy knows that there is something evil hidden in the walls. Doing her research at the library, Kathy finds out that the family that was killed in the house is not the cause of this haunting, it is courtesy of a reverend that owned the land before and carried out great acts of violence against the Native Americans in the area. Believing that it is his ghost that haunts the house, Kathy is in a race against time to get her family out of the house before something sinister happens to her and her family. I am not a huge fan of remakes these days since everything seems to be getting one, but this one is pretty good. There's not a lot of star power to gain fanfare in this one, instead they enhance the story to dive a little bit deeper into what is haunting the house. With several of the same storylines being followed from the original, you get a fresh look at the haunting and some great special effects. As in the first movie, I did enjoy the transformation of George as he becomes more distant and sinister towards the family and his axe work is fantastic. But the journey into the catacombs of the old house is just fantastic and seeing what happened there before the house was erected was a joy for all to see. This is really the perfect date movie as well for anyone that has to battle to get their girlfriend to watch a scary movie, because it's Ryan Reynolds in his prime and he does not seem to like to wear his shirt at all in this one. Stay Scared. Written by John Edward Betancourt THIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM. YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.When we last settled in to discuss the wondrous show, Motherland: Fort Salem, we spent a little time pondering upon how our trio of witches would handle the disturbing events they experienced in the last episode. For the Spree’s surprise attack at the Bellweather wedding, was horrific to say the least, since it gave these soldiers-in-training their first taste of real war and that can have a lasting impact on a young mind, one that’s never been around death. And really the big question hanging over the next episode in this fascinating series, is whether or not said episode would take the time to explore the fallout of that disastrous event and thankfully it did, in fascinating fashion. For ‘Up Is Down’ wasted no time in diving into the direct psychological impact of seeing such horrors. For Abigail was a shell of herself in this particular tale, since the death of her cousin and the horrible manner in which she died was more than her mind she could handle. But of course, she was expected to be a good solider and continue along with her training. But she is also a human being, one whose emotions cannot be contained. And it was simply powerful to watch her struggle with a touch of PTSD since she is the boldest character in her unit and what truly made this exploration worth our while, is the sheer fact that it extended beyond Abigail. Because Raelle was trying to figure out whether or not Scylla was still alive, and the unknown tore at her day and night. To the point where she was pushing her superiors to give her an answer, and she even went so far as to swing by the Necro Academy and speak to Scylla’s instructor in the hopes of getting closure. And unfortunately for Raelle, she did get that, in a bad way, when said instructor informed her that Scylla died in the storm. Which is news that quite frankly broke this brave and talented solider, to the point where she started to believe that Scylla was alive and trying to contact her and that remote possibility motivated her to fly to the lighthouse in the hopes that she would find Scylla waiting for her. But instead she only found her unit, who were quick to support her in a desperate time of need. Yet while all of these moments were powerful and intriguing for certain, what would this show be without a little mystery? And thankfully that was present here as well. For the Necro Squad came to discover that the victims of Spree attacks were actually witches, of the Bellweather line to be exact. Something that brings up all kinds of implications related to revenge and of course, we would be remiss to not discuss the powerhouse closing moment of this tale. Wherein we learned that Raelle is right after all, and Scylla is indeed alive. But the only downside to what should be a delightful revelation, is that she is a captive of the Witch Army, and the General it would seem… has some questions for this spy. If anything, it’s best to declare this particular tale as the best that season one has offered up to date. Because it put together some stunning revelations and more importantly, it featured some incredible performances from the cast. Because everyone was on point here, and you truly felt the pain and the worry of everyone that went through hell at that wedding, and that allowed for some powerful moments to play out, the kind where you definitely felt sympathy for Abigail and Raelle. And now that they’re starting to attempt to deal with their pain, it should be interesting to see how they handle the new challenges facing them, such as the discovery that Witch families are being targeted by the Spree, and that Scylla is alive and well. Until next time. Written by Scott Edwards Mother Nature is one woman that I have learned to never piss off. She always has the final say about what I can do, since she has a way of making roads un-driveable, skies un-flyable and she can keep the lights off for as long she likes. I know that last one did not flow, but she can be very mean if she wants to be and the weather can dictate what you do on a daily basis, whether you want to admit it or not. I am still a little hesitant when there is snow and ice on the streets these days, even with my kick ass car that handles it well, I am worried for everyone else that has problems when they are not able to see the lane markers. During his last fishing outing, Nick has found that he needs to get a new wench for the anchor on his boat since the last one just burnt out. Not placing blame on his first mate Spooner, it will be a costly venture and with another repeat customer dropping his services, money is starting to become scarce. While driving into town, Nick sees a beautiful woman walking on the side of the road and thinking that it is his girlfriend for the time being, he sees that his lost love has returned to the island. Seeing Beth in the flesh takes him by surprise since he has not seen her in six months and was questioning if she would ever return to the island, much less to him. While Nick gets the new part for his wench in the shop, Elizabeth is approached by the town’s treasure hunter and he has found something that she should see for the first time. An old watch washed up on the shore and when she puts it up to her ear, she hears it start ticking. Looking at the engraving marks on the old piece, she thinks that there is something familiar about it, but cannot put her finger on it. Digging through the old books in her mother’s shop, Beth is able to date the watch, but still there is something about it that makes this find extremely special. While the adults are inland, Spooner takes the boat out for a joyride with some young ladies to unwind and have some fun. When news of a massive fog bank comes across the wire, Spooner and his guests do not believe the report until the fog has surrounded the boat completely. Trying to get a better look, Spooner searches the water with his spotlight and swears that he sees a boat in the distance, although nobody else sees it. But this is just the beginning of a night that he would soon like to forget as his passengers are killed before his very eyes. Getting word that his boat is no longer in the harbor, Nick has to take to the high seas to find out what happened to it. Locating Spooner and a video camera, Nick hands off the evidence of what happened to his friend to Beth to get a better idea of what went down. As Beth reviews the tape, she sees something impossible and when a ghostly figure comes knocking at the door, she loses the tape, but finds an old diary that belonged to one of the founders of the city. Turning the pages, she finds out that there is more to founding of the city than even the city council knows about and with the frequent fog moving in, it is now too late. As people around the town start to die, there is only one answer to stopping the evil hidden in the low hanging clouds, but will somebody be able to step up to it, or will everyone in the town have to succumb to the wrath of the unknown? As far as remakes go, this one is not as bad as people make it out to be. The story is the same, only the actors are different and it has some better special effects. Now, nothing can compare to the original, especially when you are comparing the remake to it, but a movie is a movie overall and that means that they are all different in one way or another. The subplot of the town’s radio personality Stevie and her son Andy seem to take center stage since nobody wants to see a child hurt. That is all right in my book since the returning love story always gets a little bit lame in horror movies. I really enjoyed the effects that were put on the screen, as you can tell there is someone in the fog, but you’re not really able to tell who it is until a character is about to lose their life. It might not be as good as the original, but in reality, the originals are the best since they have solidified the storyline in the hearts and souls of the viewers. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards It is hard to get up on a stage and make your dreams come true. As someone that does not ever want to be in the center of the spotlight of a production, I know I would not be able to do it, even if I was begged to. I know I do not have the chops, or the memory to go up on stage and remember my lines, much less deliver them with any sort of emotion. But enough about me, there are many people that would love the opportunity to get on the stage and have people adore them and their skills. It is not for everybody and you will never know if you will like it until you take that chance. Make sure to give it a go at least once in life, it does not have to be a stage, it could just be public speaking and if you decide that you like it, keep it up, if not, well, there is no shame in working behind the curtain. Ryan is watching as his friend Reese is preparing to take center stage in the school's production of The Gallows. Taping his friend and making fun of every move that he makes, Reese seems to be a bit uncomfortable, but his co-star Pfeifer is ready for the show to go on. While trying to figure out why his friend Reese has given up on the football team, Ryan finds out that he has a big-time crush on theater nerd Pfeifer and that is why he signed on for the show. But Reese may never need to take the stage since Ryan comes up with a plan to take the show down before it even starts, thus enhancing Reese’s relationship with Pfeifer, by destroying the set. Finding that the back stage door does not lock, Ryan, his girlfriend Cassidy and Reese are ready to take down The Gallows before it sees the light of day for the first time in over twenty years, since the last production took place in 1993, which ended with a student being killed on stage. Dismantling the gallows in the center stage, the group is ready to be on their way, but to their amazement, all of the doors in the school are locked. Hearing someone else in the theater with them, the group is shocked to see that Pfeifer is there as well. Needing to find a way out of the building so they will not get into trouble, the group follows a trail of open doors leading them throughout the school, but there is somebody lurking in the shadows, watching the students at every turn. With the ghost of the student that was killed years before after them, the group is starting to understand the importance of the show and why it must go on. I know that found footage movies are here to stay and I am all right with that as long as a good storyline is present in them. I liked how the story played out in this movie, even though I was not too blown away with the characters. As the night continued on and strange sounds were being heard around the theater, nothing was too frightening, until Cassidy got a little love grip around her neck. Once the ghost was awakened, all bets were off for the group and not being able to escape and having to take the scenic route around the school makes you wonder what secrets your old high school might have had. Dying cell phones, darkness and the only light coming from a camcorder, the scares do wind up finding you, and even though you expect them, you might be surprised where they come from. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards If you are like me, you like everything there is about Egypt and the history that goes along with it. An ancient civilization that was able to erect massive structures with no heavy machinery just amazes me, but there is something else as well. Their religion has fascinated me since I was a young boy and knowing that there is still more to learn about their beliefs and what made them want to preserve their history is just something that I can never let go of. From what the history books say, it was a great culture, but from reading between the lines, there was much more treachery going on than anyone would really like to bring to light. Nora and her father Dr. Holden have made a discovery for the ages. While digging in Egypt, they have found a three-sided pyramid. Although the use of technology had a part in it, Dr. Holden needs to relay the message that real archeologists still dig to find their discoveries and computers are not to thank for everything that they find. But Nora is utilizing the technology that is at her fingertips and when the entrance of the pyramid is uncovered, she has the perfect way to see what secrets it is hiding, without ever having to step inside this ancient relic. After opening the entrance and having an ancient booby-trap take out one of the workers, the father/daughter team is not ready to give up, but when they get a call from the university saying that the dig is off, they have to make a decision. With the unrest in Cairo, everyone is concerned about what will happen to the Americans who are digging on their land. Being told to evacuate the area, the team wants to take a quick look inside of the old tomb and be able to take credit for their find. Utilizing a Mars Rover for their benefit, the group gets a quick look inside of the pyramid, until something happens to the unit. After seeing the Mars Rover be destroyed, the group has to head into the pyramid to retrieve it. With oxygen masks in hand to keep the toxic air at bay, Nora, her father, their film crew and Michael Zahir enter the darkness of the ancient tomb. Finding a piece of the rover, the group finds a shaft that takes them up a level to a chamber that is out of place. But when they return to the main level, they find that they are turned around and do not know which way to head to make it back to sunlight. As they search through the pyramid to find their way out, they find that all of the ancient booby-traps are still active, but that is the least of their worries as they are up against something out of the history books that is looking for its way out of the tomb as well. As a lover of all things to do with the ancient Egyptians, I think that this movie did itself right. I like how the history made its way into the movie, along with plenty of the rituals and beliefs. The only complaint I have about this movie is the changing camera work that took place, going from first person to third to those who were not in the pyramid with the group. I only spoke about the father/daughter pair in this review, but when you watch the movie you will love Fitzie, the camera man from the film crew that is tagging along in the death tomb. Fitzie only wants one thing, and that is to get out of the tomb before he and the group become permanent members of it for the rest of eternity. This movie might also highlight why I am not a fan of cats, besides being allergic to them, they are evil and only want to feed on the living when the lights are off. I knew at a young age that legends are more than stories, they could be based on facts, and this movie gives you every reason to believe in what the Egyptians did, especially in the final act. Stay Scared. |
