Written by Scott Edwards Moving to a beautiful venue is a dream for many people. Getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city and going to a place that is always warm and near a beach seems to be the perfect scenario, that is why so many vacations are planned the same way. What people do not expect is to be moved to one of these venues just to keep their head above water as it is the only place that they could get a job. Sometimes fate just smiles down on some people. Dr. Alice Dodgson has been dismissed from her medical practice for disobeying the advice of a tenured position that resulted in a patient's death. Being barred from practicing medicine in the United States for two years, Alice is looking for any job that could help her keep her head above water. Reading the want ads, she has found a listing for a medical professional down in Jamaica. Just having to keep an eye on the patient and attending to his needs seems to be the best fit for Alice as she is worried about causing another death. When Alice arrives in Jamaica, she finds that the relaxed environment is just a show for the tourist trade and not everything is as easy as it seems. Finding out that her patient, Wesley Claybourne is not just sick, but believes that he is a zombie, Alice has to find out more about the local culture. Thinking that she is being given all of the power she requires from Wesley’s brother Paul, Alice finds out that Paul is trying to keep her away from making his brother any better. Being in a region that utilizes Voodoo, Alice is subjected to much more than she has bargained for. Without knowing who she should trust, Alice is befriended by a local woman named Caro who seems to know all of the ins and outs of the island. Believing that Caro is the just the person she needs to be friends with, Alice seems to be getting everything she needs as Wesley starts to show signs of getting better. Thinking that her life is about to make a change for the better as her patient is showing signs of progress and everyone in the house of Claybourne is warming up to her, Alice gets into a little bit of trouble as the local voodoo is directed towards her as well. Trying to figure out why she is being targeted, Alice turns to a local voodoo doctor and finds out that the power holding her patient and now her is more powerful then he or anyone can fight off. Ritual follows Dr. Alice Dodgson as she is trying to get her life back together after losing her job. Moving to the warm confines of Jamaica and being welcomed with open arms, she feels comfortable in her decision and will do anything in her power to help her patient. With Paul Claybourne giving her anything within his power to save his brother, Alice thinks that everything is on the up and up, but when she tries to find out why Wesley believes that somebody else is controlling his mind, making him a zombie, she finds that the path she follows leads right back to the people whom she believed she could trust. Having to put her faith into her ailing patient and local driver J.B., Alice has to expand her beliefs to fight off her impending doom. As only the Tales from the Crypt can do, Ritual delivers the perfect amount of scares, levity and although I hate to say it, skin. Knowing what makes some of the most intriguing horror stories, this movie falls right back into the classic formulas, by keeping you guessing at who your villain is until the very last second and that’s something that keeps you intrigued and at the edge of your seat. Being a very safe formula for a horror film, this needs to be practiced by many of the new filmmakers that give everything away in the first half hour and lose the audience. Although this movie stereotypes Jamaica a bit, it is still funny to hear all of the slogans coming to life once again. Stay Scared.

Written by Scott Edwards A group of researchers are heading up to the Canadian wilderness to follow and study the Canadian Lynx. Being led by Jim Harwood and his daughter Emmy, the group finds that all of the lynx have mysteriously disappeared from their homes. Not being able to determine what happened to the previously abundant population on the mountain, the group heads out looking for answers. In town, new deputy Barry is looking for answers of his own. Too many people have gone missing in the wilderness for his liking and he is trying to find out if something or someone is taking them. Being met with opposition from his partner Gibbons, Barry puts a map together to try and find a pattern. When looking at all of the missing people reports and reading statements from around town, Barry finds that everyone that has gone missing in a central area and none of the search parties have ever looked in the correct location. As Jim and counterpart Rob move around the mountain and fix their faulty equipment, they stumble upon and investigate a large snow cave. Noticing blood and human remains around the cavern, they get a call from Emmy saying that something large and not human is headed their way. Having to get out of the cave before the strange creature catches up with them, Jim and Rob rush back to the cabin and try to figure out what is hunting all of the animals on the mountain. Analyzing some footage they obtained, the group is dumbfounded with what they see before them. Thinking that it is a bear of some sort the group feels safe in the confines of their cabin until their snowmobiles are attacked and dismantled by the beast. Knowing that this creature is something that is not currently on the animal records, the group is faced with the ultimate decision, to stay and continue their research or escape while they still have time. But with their transportation having been destroyed by the beast, the group has their decision made up for them as they need to find a way to survive. Snow Beast follows a group of researchers headed by Jim Harwood. Being recently divorced, he is taking his daughter Emmy along for the ride up to the Canadian wilderness to follow in his studies of the Canadian Lynx. With his seasoned researchers coming along, Jim feels that everything will stay well in hand when they find that there is no wildlife activity to be found on the mountain, only strange tracks that could be a bear or something similar, that has managed to scare all the animals away. With there now being a lack of food on the mountain, the new predator has turned its sights on the local human population to feed. With a consistent hunting pattern, the beast is finding what it wants, when it wants but is unable to know how strong a group of scientists can be with their backs to the wall. This is one of those movies that will leave you shaking your head. Just a fun ride that makes you remember how much smarter you are than the main characters when they go searching for their hunter or come up with their plans of escape. The saying, ‘Riding into the mouth of the beast’ could be taken very literally with this film, but that is what makes it fun. Staying on your feet while a strange creature is chasing you is the only way to survive, but as is always demonstrated in a classic horror story, someone always falls. Stay Scared! Written by Scott Edwards Evolving to a new situation is something that everyone has to be able to do. With how often things change in our daily lives, we must be willing to change along with it. If you are not willing to change as the world around you does, you can end up being left behind as others around you are allowed to prosper. Everything changes and the only thing that you can do is adapt to it or you will be left to suffer. Earl Bassett is accustomed to change, after his time in Perfection brought him fifteen minutes of fame from the Graboid craze, he has blown one opportunity after another to cash in. Working and living alone, Earl is circling depression when he is called upon by the Mexican government. One of the primary oil fields has been shut down due to deaths being caused by Graboids and his expertise is needed to save the land. Paring up with Graboid enthusiast Grady, Earl is back on the hunt for fame and fortune as he will receive fifty thousand dollars for each creature that is killed. An offer is also thrown his way to capture one alive for twice the payout. As little is still knowing about these creatures, it is a high priority to study them and their origins. Upon their hunt in Mexico, the two find that they may be in a little over their heads as the Graboids are running rampant. They need help and call in old friend and gun enthusiast Burt Gummer to help eradicate the threat. With the three now working together to kill all of the Graboids in the area, they find that there is a new threat as the creatures start to change into something new. With their old methods of hunting being used against them, the Graboids have evolved to survive. Slowing down and acting as if they are sick, the Graboids are metamorphosing into a new threat that no one could have seen coming. Three empty sacks are found inside of a Graboid carcass that housed a new breed of the ancient creatures. The rules have changed as smaller, more dynamic creatures are hunting in the valley. Tremors 2: Aftershocks follows Earl, Grady and Burt as they are paid handsomely to clear one of Mexico’s largest oil fields from the threat of Graboids. Without knowing much about the creatures, the group is surprised by the sudden transformation from the underground hunters to the new smaller, above-ground killers, that attack anything that gives off heat. Being cut off from civilization once again, Earl and Burt have to come up with a new way of defeating their new foes as what they prepared for is no longer the biggest threat in front of them. Along with a geologist, the group has to figure out what weaknesses these new creatures, now dubbed Shriekers, have, in order to survive. I love the original Tremors, and always worry that a sequel might disappoint when the first movie is so good, but Tremors 2 is a worthy successor. Having a couple stars from the first movie reprising their roles, Tremors 2 continues with the same formula that made the first entry so enjoyable. Changing up the threat, the creatures have evolved into something new that the group was not expecting, and they have to change their methods of attack. Having enough humor to keep you laughing, there are also enough scares to keep you on the edge of your seat, since this new monster can reproduce itself from just eating enough, and that makes the new Shriekers a worst threat than the previous Graboids. But that doesn’t mean that one has to give up on their plans. Because sometimes keeping an eye out for unexpected opportunities can help us get back on track and in the end, it’s really about keeping one’s eyes on the prize to ensure that you’re always focused on executing your plan, even though there may be a few changes to it along the way. In the small town of Perfection, local handymen Earl and Valentine are trying to come up with a plan that will lead them to greatness. Being jacks of all trades, the two know they will be stuck in the small town if they do not do anything to change their lifestyles. The two have finally had enough of being just mediocre in their minds and decide to move to the big city of Bixby. On their way out of town, the two find that their friends are being killed off by someone. Wanting the best for themselves, along with the town, Earl and Valentine are tasked with getting to the big city to get help. With the small town being cut off from the world, they have to put their faith in the two handymen to save the day. Having the main road to town blocked off, the two have to find another way to try to save everyone. A strange creature latches itself on to their truck delaying their task and causing them to head back into Perfection. The town takes notice of this large snake like creature and wonders what will be in-store for them. While a new grad student is working in the valley, she notices that there are strange readings coming across on her seismographs and is curious about what is causing them. With no blasting in the area and no known earthquakes, she able to find and track a strange anomaly that is plaguing the town. Subterranean creatures are attacking animals and people from under the ground, with no eyes they are hunting based on sound and vibrations they can feel in the dirt. Not knowing how to beat these ancient beasts, the handymen, along with the town have to come together to make up a plan of survival. Tremors follows the inhabitants of the small town of Perfection as they are attacked by what they call Graboids. These underground hunters are drawn to any noise in the area and do not have discriminating tastes as they will eat anything they can wrap their mouths on. The locals of Perfection have to find a way to go for help as there is no way to communicate with the outside world. Trying to come up with a plan to get everyone to safety, the handymen team up with their local paranoid extremist Burt Gummer and use the Graboids strengths to their own benefits. I think Tremors is one of the best Creature Features I've ever seen as the monsters seem to be unbeatable. With their lack of sight, the Graboids seem to be stupid but are able to learn from their mistakes very quickly. That is what makes this movie scary as the creatures adapt to their new situations and refuse to lose even as their prey seem to get the upper hand. With plenty of laughs, there are enough scares to make this one of my favorite horror movies from my youth. Even if you are able to find a place to escape the Graboids' reach, they are very patient and willing to wait it out until someone gives. You either face the choice of starvation or being someone’s dinner, something that not many people have ever planned for. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards Moving to a new place is never easy to do. It is difficult to find new friends and cliques to fit in with. This seems to be worse for kids who have to move with one of their parents due to breakups. What also makes this hard is figuring out who you can and cannot trust in your new surroundings as you are an outsider and have to work hard to be accepted. Once that is established however, you are in and ready to be part of the community and are privy to all types of gossip around town. Elissa and her mother Sarah Cassidy move to a new town after Sarah finalizes her divorce. Thinking that things will be better financially, since they are moving into a house with cheap rent, due to a murder that took place in a small-town years ago, Sarah is also hoping that this move will help to change their lives for the better, period. Elissa has a hard time fitting in with the local kids, when a secret is revealed that the prized youth are not as good as they are made out to be. Leaving a party early, Elissa is caught in the rain and is picked up by Ryan Jacobson. Ryan seems like a well-rounded individual, coming from the home of a gruesome murder years ago. Elissa takes a liking to this lone survivor and finds comfort in his company. Sarah is not happy seeing her daughter grow up and tells the two that they are not to be alone in either house, ever. Thinking that her mom is trying to put an end to the relationship, Elissa goes against her mother’s wishes and continues to spend time with Ryan and wants to take it to the next level. But little does she know that Ryan has a secret of his own, one that involves his deranged little sister. Carrie Anne, Ryan’s little sister, killed her parents one night many years ago and was believed to be dead after running into the woods and never being seen again. But it turns out that Ryan locked her up in a secret compartment under the basement. Keeping her fed and sedated, Ryan wants to try to live a normal life again and have a relationship with Elissa, but when Carrie Anne escapes from her holding cell, Ryan changes into a completely different person. When catching up with his sister in the woods before she can raise more havoc, Ryan accidentally snaps her neck while keeping her quiet. Calling on his new love so he can tell her the truth, he is attacked by the local kids around the town at a battle of the bands concert and is forced to run again. Not knowing what to think about his past, Elissa tries to find him and keep him from getting into any further trouble, but she finds that doing this may cost her much more than expected. House at the End of the Street is a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat while you try to figure out what is really happening between Ryan and his sister Carrie Anne. While Elissa tries to open up the relationship, Ryan backs away, heeding the warnings from her overbearing mother. While Elissa does not trust her mother, she finds that her mother may know best. While Ryan tries to be a loner and stay out of the eyes of the community, he is drawn back in and is punished for everything that his family’s house represents. The community may be right about the young man as a new Carrie Anne is found in the hidden room. Even though this movie may not deliver the classical scares as some do, I like how the story line plays out in this film. You almost feel bad for your villain as everyone takes shots at him when all he is trying to do is protect his little sister. With a rebelling daughter, and overbearing mother, you do want to see the relationship between Elissa and Ryan grow. You would always like to see everyone be happy, even in a bad situation, but once the real Ryan comes to light and the story of his younger sister Carrie Anne is revealed, you may have the feeling of watching a classical thriller with a new world twist. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards As some people have said, love can drive you to do things that you never knew were possible. Reading reports of mothers lifting cars off of their children along with the selfless acts of people saving the lives of their significant others just astounds me. With this kind of unbridled abilities, just imagine what could be done if this power could be harnessed at all times. The power of love can make some things that were never thought possible, possible. Ian Stone is setting up for the final play during his hockey game when something goes terribly wrong for him. Shooting the game winning goal with two seconds left on the clock, the referees call it off saying that time had expired. Knowing that something is not right, Ian has to listen to the griping of his teammates as he did not pass or win the game. Disappointed in himself, he falls back on his girlfriend for reassurance that he did nothing wrong. When driving Jenny home from the game, Ian has a feeling that something is not right about the day. After saying goodnight, he heads home to find a person lying in the middle of the street, but when he tries to help them, Ian is met by a strange creature that shoves a large claw straight through him. Waking up in an office, Ian believes that this was just a dream. Looking around the office however, he notices that several of the people look familiar from what he had just experienced, and he starts to wonder what is happening. Upon leaving his office job, Ian sees a man dying on the side of the street with a helper that seems to be relishing in the fact that this is happening. Ian moves away quickly and finds comfort in an alley but is met by a man who tells Ian that he needs to remember. Ian thinks that the man is just crazy but believes what the man is saying before he is taken through a storm drain. Trying to call for help, Ian’s cell phone does not work and when reaching a pay phone, he is only met with static on the other end. Returning home and talking with his girlfriend Medea, Ian finds himself in more trouble than he could possibly imagine. When ‘They’ know that you are onto them, ‘They’ will come…and kill you. The strange man was correct about this as Ian meets his next death at Medea’s hands. Ian awakens again in a new life with only partial recollection of what had previously happened. When his memory comes back however, he is hunted again by these strange creatures that are foreign to him and he looks for any way to escape them. These shadowy, black creatures with a single claw are to be known as ‘Harvesters’ as Ian finds out from another encounter from the stranger. These Harvesters feed on the fear of man, and once they get their first taste, they will never have enough. The Deaths of Ian Stone follows Ian as he tries to figure out what the Harvesters want with him. Being killed several times, but always waking up in a different scenario, Ian is bound and determined to get at least one other person to believe him and what he has been going through. The stranger told him that he needed to protect Jenny, his girlfriend at all costs. She is the reason why Ian is being chased, and if the Harvesters get their hands on her, they will do everything possible to hurt her and that could end Ian’s story. Ian believes this and does everything within his power to keep these hunters away from Jenny, but when he finds out what she really is, he will become more powerful than the Harvesters could imagine. With what is happening on the screen, this is a movie you will need to watch from start to finish and actually pay attention. The Deaths of Ian Stone is by far my favorite movie that came out of the After Dark Horrorfest Collection of 2007. I used to be a passive movie watcher, but this one kept me intrigued to the little things that were happening behind the actors as you never know who is and who is not a Harvester. With a different story line than what most American audiences are used to, your lead actor dies and dies often until he is able to figure out why he is being targeted. Ian along with Jenny are great characters, especially when they both end up having the same memories from their alternate lives. And when Ian figures out his only reason for living, it is an epic change from where the movie starts out. Stay Scared! Written by Scott Edwards What can you live without that you use on a daily basis? Can you live without your car, watching your TV or using electricity altogether? If you are like most people, the answer to all of these is no, even for one day. There are few people that are comfortable with giving up their needs on technology and surviving in their own way. But, if as a whole we are not given a choice in this, what would happen to the population of the U.S. or even the world? The Apocalypse has come and is not what anyone had expected. There was no asteroid strike, or nuclear holocaust, or a virus/disease outbreak as everyone had planned for, instead the end came about thanks to a lack of one natural resource, Gasoline. After the last drops have been taken from the earth, the world starts dying as everyone evacuates to the south causing more problems than solutions. With no gas, trucks are no longer able to bring food to the masses, trains are no longer able to transport coal to the power plants and people are not able to stay warm or fed. Walking through an empty city, a group of survivors are looking for anything that could be useful in their survival. Not seeing any other people in months, the group is surprised to find two people getting mugged down an alley. Scaring off the mugger, the group finds one survivor of the heinous attack and returns her to her safe house. Banding together in an abandoned hospital months ago, the group she is a part of has enough food and water to survive whatever comes their way, including taking in the occasional stray. The group is led by who they call ‘The Professor’ who seems to have the best interests in mind when it comes to handing out the daily chores to the group. Even though the group seems to be safe from any outside threats, there is still fear that an attack is looming from some unknown force. When ‘The Professor’ is taken out of the mix, the group knows they need a new leader as a band of Rovers have noticed the people in the hospital. The Rovers have turned to cannibalism during the apocalypse and can only survive on fresh meat. Not wanting anything to go to waste, the Rovers only take one person a day, so that their kills do not rot before they are eaten. Keeping the group inside of the hospital is the plan, as the Rovers are able to gain access from within. Tooth and Nail follows a group of survivors during the apocalypse as they try to stay together and grow stronger. After picking up a new survivor, the group is forced to trust her once their leader goes missing. With a new threat at their doorstep, the group tries to prepare for battle with the Rovers but are outnumbered and weak in comparison. Without enough weapons to stop the cannibals the group is left with two options, to run away or stay and hide. Not wanting to split up, they stay in the large building hoping that the Rovers will not find them but are given a rude awakening when one of their own is helping the other side. A less destructive outlook on the apocalypse, with the lack of gasoline being what takes the world down rather than an outbreak. Some people are trying to find any way to survive with what is available while others have turned to an extreme lifestyle that can only be fed by the flesh of their fellow man. With the men getting killed off early in this flick, the women get to show off their strength as they are not only looking for survival, but revenge for what has been done to their friends. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards Money can mean different things to different people. Some people find it as a way to enjoy life, and it allows for them to go out for every meal, or travel to far away, exotic places and they're also able to share with their loved ones to make sure they are all taken care of. Other people find money to be something of a burden, since they're always being asked for loans or handouts from people they know or don’t know. Whichever way people chose to view their personal holdings is their own business and no one should ever tell them what to do with it, especially family. Paul and Aubrey Davidson are getting ready for their anniversary in their vacation home, away from the city. Inviting all of their children to attend, the couple is very happy with their standings in life and being retired is the greatest thing that could have ever happened for them. Saving their money and spending it wisely has worked out well for the happy couple and they are more than happy with just being together all the time. Chrispian Davidson and his girlfriend Erin are making their trip up to the house to help celebrate with the rest of the siblings, but Erin seems to be very hung up with the fact the her boyfriend’s parents are very well off. She has never known anybody with money before and hopes that they will accept her into the little circle. Chrispian is not too worried about it, trying to put Erin's worries to rest by saying that they are just normal people, but Erin is trying her hardest not to give off a bad impression. The other brothers and lone sister make it to the house as well and they pick right up where they left off last time they all saw each other…by fighting. With the family all together and some possible new additions at the table, something seems to be a little off in the evening. There seems to be someone lurking in the bushes outside of the dining room and when the daughter’s boyfriend goes to investigate, he is met with an arrow in the head. Dinner is over and the group is looking for safety and trying to figure out who and what they are up against. Without having any real weapons of their own, Erin takes charge and starts arming the family members with anything she can find, including knives and a meat tenderizer. Not knowing who they are up against and discovering that booby traps are set up all over the exterior of the house, the family realizes that they are trapped inside and will have to wait to find out who is hunting them, head on. You’re Next is a horror movie that focuses around money and power, and it follows the Davidson family as they battle for their lives while facing unknown attackers wearing animal masks. With everyone on edge, Erin takes control and allows her past to come into play as she grew up on a survivalist’s camp in Australia. Taking care of her boyfriend, along with his family proves to be a task for Erin, but she is capable of so much more. Finding out what is really happening is much worse than she expected as she does not know who to trust anymore and is faced with the ultimate decision. A fantastic ‘Who Done It’ film with a terror twist. Not knowing who you can trust in a new environment can be scary enough but having to battle an external threat as well will keep you on your toes. It is just great being able to see one person take control of the situation as everyone else is running around with their head cut off. With great build ups and some outrageous kills that you will need to see more than once, it is an enjoyable ride. When money is mentioned later on in the film, most everything seems to come together, with the exception of who is really pulling all of the strings. Stay Scared. Written by Scott EdwardsThree weeks ago, while working on a church’s renovation in Romania, two brothers discover ancient ruins in a hidden altar. The two believe that it could bring them fame and fortune, but the tomb has something much more in store for the two men. Cutting his hand on a skull, the brother has now been infected by an ancient evil that humans and vampires will fear the same. An undefeatable force could be unleashed on the world if a group of Hunters cannot stop this ancient evil from achieving full transformation. Carrie is the most tenured Hunter on her team and is not afraid to tell the others in the crew what is needed. At this point in time, they need a new revenue stream to fund their operations, but the most recent vampire kills have left them with no money and a new artifact. The vampires they recently put down were wearing a black stake with a red V around their necks, nothing of monetary value, but it is a sign that the group has never seen before. Regardless of the new threat, the group still needs money and finds that a recent missing person case may be their ticket, since a rich brother is looking to pay someone to locate his kin. Along the way, Carrie and her team are investigating a vampire den where everyone has been killed by some uncontrollable force. Fighting with the only survivor of the attack, the crew is able to subdue and interrogate the old vampire. Stanis, the old vampire, is chained to a table while Carrie and friends start to torture the old soul. Trying to convince the Hunters that he is not their enemy, Stanis gives them enough little tidbits of information to keep them from destroying him, but time is running out as the second coming of a more dangerous creature is about to happen. Later, Carrie and her client, Clayton, are kidnapped by a band of vampires that are looking for the whereabouts of Clayton’s brother. Knowing more than the Hunters, the group of vampires are looking for the brother who has been bitten by the ancient evil of Vlad Kossei. Vlad Kossei has to do only one thing to become immortal once again, have all of his surviving bloodline killed, something he cannot accomplish on his own. Carrie tries to escape and kill as many of the bloodsuckers as she can but is being held back by her ex-boyfriend who is trying to convince her who the real threat is before he is killed. Brotherhood of Blood follows a group of vampire hunters that are trying to continue their quest to rid the world of the bloodsuckers. When most of the group is killed on their latest hunt, Carrie and two others have to trust the ramblings of their new prisoner, Stanis. Stanis explains what is in store for the hunters and his own race if nothing is done about the second coming of Vlad Kossei. Trying to prepare for their own survival, the vampires have taken to their hiding place, but somehow, the Vlad Kossei winds up at their front door. Can the humans and vampires come together to defeat the ancient evil or will they continue their life long battle and allow Vlad Kossei to live once again? Not a classical vampire story as the Hunters have to rely on their lifelong enemies for survival. Having to put trust in one’s enemy to survive and defeat the ultimate evil is something that has been left out of vampire stories for many years. Although Carrie is a very strong woman on her own, her history comes back to haunt her as she has to battle for her own survival, along with the new menace that frightens even the vampires. This is just a fun vampire move that will have you pulling for the humans as they try to escape, but once the vampires are under attack by the ancient evil, you may turn your pity to them as well. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards Taking a break before having a life changing event is great advice for everyone. Getting away from your troubles for a day, a week, a year could be an incredibly refreshing event. Keeping your mind off of everything that is important to you in the real world is really one of the best reasons to take a vacation and just get away. Most of the time, when you return, your batteries are re-charged and you are ready to take on life once again. Three friends are looking to get away before running back to college for their next semester. Thinking that anything goes down in Mexico, that is their next destination. Wanting to drink, smoke and not have any other care in the world, the three start their road trip and find exactly what they are looking for. Letting themselves go, they find that a local strip club has more to offer than expected, since two of the three find love. Henry is disappointed in his friends for falling in love so quickly but makes sure that it will not calm his vacation buzz. Taking his friends and two ladies out, the group settles in and takes some hallucinogens to enhance the nightly experience. Walking back to his new lady friend’s apartment, Phil is approached by a man just looking for a light for his cigarette. Seeing that Phil is still under the influence of something, he is kidnapped and taken to a powerful cartel member's home. Phil is missing and his friends are trying to find him but are not able to speak Spanish fluently enough to get any answers. Working with Ed’s new squeeze, Valeria, to get answers, they find out that their friend has been taken by Santillan, a very powerful drug runner who will stop at nothing to accomplish his goals. Believing in the dark arts, Santillan believes that sacrifices have to be made to the gods to help protect his shipments up to the states. Finding that the latest sacrifices have not produced the desired effect, an American may be the only way to appease the gods for his benefit. Borderland follows three friends as they try to unwind and get away from reality for a while by visiting Mexico. Being a perfect target for a Mexican cartel leader, one man is taken and has his friends try their best to find him, and they quickly find that the lack of laws they were looking for is no longer in their favor. When the name Santillan is mentioned to any of the local villagers, they all become quiet and hesitant to talk, but if they do open their mouths, they are met with vengeance from the cartel. Being told to go home and see if the American government would help them, the two friends join forces with a retired police officer that has a score to settle with Santillan. Just a downright thriller that will keep you hoping that the poor Americans are able to escape the confines of Mexico and return home. With one of the strongest cartel leaders in the country against them, they are unable to know who to trust while their friend is scheduled to meet his untimely fate. Not being able to trust or even get help from the local authorities may be one of the scariest parts of this movie, along with Santillan, a well-spoken and extremely calm leader that believes that magic can protect his livelihood. This is a movie that will make you think twice about where you choose to visit for a quick getaway. Stay Scared. |
