'Stan Against Evil' Recap: 'The Eyes of Evie Barret'

As another nice and quiet day kicks off in Willard’s Mill, Evie is forced to play chauffeur for the former sheriff once again. Trying to explain to Stan why alcohol is not allowed in the police cruiser, the two spot a car going way too fast. Pulling over the driver and getting hit on for the third time this week, Evie is just flat out tired of such attention and Stan plants the idea in her head that if she was wearing a ring, then maybe the madness would end, but he mainly offers that kind of advice because he does not want to hear about it anymore.

Arriving at the local antique shop, Evie is ready to buy a new ring, shocking the owner who knows what marriage is supposed to symbolize. Finding an old ring from behind the counter, the woman passes it off to Evie for no cost as she has always loved to help out the police, but little does Evie know what secrets the ring contains. Falling asleep with the ring on, Evie gets a firsthand account of seeing the man whom she pulled over earlier that day getting his throat slit. Thinking little of this at the time, she gets a call from Leon saying that they have a new dead body on their hands, and to Evie’s surprise, it is the same man from her dream, being killed in the same way.

Getting ready to start his day at the office, Leon sees a young woman in distress that needs his help. Trying to keep her calm, he is challenged to a fight by her overbearing boyfriend and he is not the only one to hit the floor as the man falls to his death after the beating. But there is something strange about this newly dead man, since it turns out he died two years ago, and things are starting to get a little bit stranger as the tests run on the driver come back with very a key piece of evidence, in that he was killed by the living dead. Not knowing how these things are being tied together, Evie knows that she cannot go to sleep again, since she is filled with fear that she will kill someone in her dreams.

Trying to get Stan to lend a hand, Evie gets Denise instead who is always full of energy and overall this might be a good way to stay awake through the night. But when Denise falls asleep, Evie is on her own and quickly finds out that she cannot stay awake. Nodding off and seeing the killer arrive at Stan’s bed, she is able to wake up and warn him of the impending threat. Knowing that somehow the ring is part of the visions she is having, Evie digs through the old files of how the other constables of the town were killed and stumbles upon a picture that shows the ring, along with a face from the past that looks very familiar. Needing to question the old shop keeper, Evie and Leon find out that love is a much more powerful thing than they could ever imagine, since it can even give someone the gift of everlasting life.

This was a very good episode and while I was not blown away by it, the plot begins to thicken as it shows how tired Evie has become of being hit on over the course of this season. With Evie getting to be privy to murders in her dreams, she finds out that some folks are more about purity than anything else. Leon gets some action inside the office, with a beat down and a looming affair with a recently widowed woman, two times. Denise is loving the fact that she will have baby crows to take care of in the back of the car, but really shows that nobody is able to sleep without rearranging during the night. Stan is being pulled back into the case again while he would rather keep the relationship with his ass and his chair strong moving forward. With another witch being disposed of, in older person fashion, I cannot wait to see where the next episode takes us. Stay Scared.
