Ten years ago, the landscape of the world of horror changed, thanks to AMC Networks. Courtesy of the creation of Shudder. A streaming service dedicated to horror and well, when it debuted, few had any idea of the ride that was to follow. For soon, Shudder went from being a collection of classic horror stories to an outright destination for fans of the genre. Because soon, original programming came about, the kind that gave rise to the return of Joe Bob Briggs, and where the Boulet Brothers found a home for their work, and so much more. Since original documentaries were everywhere to be found and soon, original horror stories and movies, the likes of which no other streamer or network has rivaled.
Which brought about, utter domination for Shudder, since it truly became the premier streamer for horror, and it has not released its zombie like grip on the title. For it continues to bring forth stunning features, some of which are now finding their way into theaters and to celebrate their tenth anniversary, Shudder is offering up a year-long celebration of the genre. One that starts with their annual Halfway to Halloween event, and will be followed by all kinds of fan events and activations and a lovely curation of horror classics, all of which we will highlight for you now, as we all prepare to take part in the grand celebration of Shudder, and all the wondrous scares its sent our way for ten years now, and hopefully… ten years more and beyond. Shudder’s 10th Anniversary Celebration Highlights
Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium horror streaming service, will mark its 10-year anniversary and a decade of the best in horror with its most terrifyingly ambitious programming slate to date, special fan events, customized merchandise and more. Shudder 10, which kicks off during the streamer’s annual “Halfway to Halloween” horror-thon, will also feature a nationwide screening tour, “Shudder 10 Screening Series,” featuring a curated selection of Shudder films. The 10-year milestone follows a successful 2024 for Shudder as the streamer claimed six of the year’s top 10 titles on Rotten Tomatoes 2024 Horror list with Late Night with the Devil landing in the #1 spot.
“Since day one, Shudder has hoped to showcase the breadth and depth of horror, crafting and releasing provocative, frightening work with renowned masters and pioneering new voices, said Sam Zimmerman, Head of Programming for Shudder. “It’s humbling to establish a mark on the genre we love so much, at a time when horror is perhaps more widely embraced than ever before. We’re incredibly thankful to the passionate fanbase that’s joined us these last ten years and to the immeasurably talented filmmakers and producers who have trusted Shudder to share their thrilling stories with our audience. This year, we celebrate where Shudder’s been and give our members a taste of the horrors to come.” “Shudder perfectly represents our targeted streaming approach, offering a deep and highly-curated selection of films and series programmed by horror superfans for all horror fans,” said Courtney Thomasma, EVP of Linear and Streaming Products at AMC Networks. “As horror continues to grow in popularity, Shudder is leading the charge – for the most passionate fans as well as those just starting to explore the depth and variety of the category – with a lineup that continually showcases how clever and multifaceted and fantastically fun the genre can be.” An overview of Shudder 10 activities is below: Shudder’s Halfway to Halloween:
