Scotty’s Horror Short Showcase: ‘Ghost in the Woods’

Like most people, I get a little excited when I hear that there is a new ghost photo or video out there that would prove that there is an afterlife, but alas, most of them are just specks on a lens, or flat out fake. While I have seen and heard things that I cannot explain, I am always looking for the best evidence out there to prove to a skeptic that there is something out there. Even with the best evidence, there is always a way to poke a hole into it, so sometimes you will have to believe that people will trust what you saw. You may never know when or where you might find a good haunted place to go ghost hunting, so just keep your camera rolling and whatever you find, is what you will be able to stand by.

Friends Katie, Sophie and Alex are taking their ride over to their friend’s Ryan’s house when they get a quick scare from Ryan himself. Sneaking up on his female friends, Ryan is happy with his actions and challenges the girls to a race home. Beating them soundly, the girls take notice that Ryan is holding his chest from pushing himself too hard and may need some attention. Begging his friends not to tell his mom what he did, Ryan is ashamed of them for giving him up the minute he walks in the door. With his mother having him put his oxygen on and trying to get him to calm down, the group huddle up on the couch and pull out their cell phones and come across an interesting post. Classmate Danny posted that there are some haunted woods behind a nearby housing development, complete with a picture that might or might not be a ghost.

The girls are more than willing to check it out, as is Ryan, but he is quickly informed that he needs to sit this one out. Leaving their friend at home, the girls make their way to the woods and get into a discussion of what a ghost might actually look like. Not knowing for sure, they hear something that is out of place and find that Ryan has made his way to the woods as well. As the girls are getting ready to leave, they notice that Ryan is no longer tagging along with them and they know that with his weak heart, he may get into trouble when riding home. Trying to find him along the street as they make it back to his house, the girls are shocked to find out that Ryan had passed away while they were out, so who did they see in the woods?

This is a fun little ghost story, with a couple of fun jump scares and a friendship that may be everlasting. I was a little disappointed in Ryan however, if you know that you should not push yourself too hard, even to impress someone, you should put your health first, man! The girls’ excitement to go to the woods to find the ghost was pretty much on point to what I would expect, and being on edge during the hunt, well, that is how it always is. With a bike race, an ailing friend, a can of oxygen, a ghost hunt, cell phones, sticks cracking, some creepy woods and a friendship that may never die, this is just the story of good friends looking for a good time and finding out that ghosts might actually exist.
