It can be hard to accept that myths and legends are actually built on something that was true in the past. With some research, you are able to find out for yourself where they came from, whether it be a burning beard or lightning striking twice. But you may want to be careful when checking up on these things, especially if you have a weak stomach, because when looking up the legend of a killer in your area, you may find that it is more gruesome than you can take. If you don’t want to believe that these stories are true, just remember to be mindful of them and the reason that they are being told.
After his brief stint at the Pinehurst halfway house, Tommy Jarvis wants to prove to himself once and for all that Jason Voorhees is actually dead. With a copycat donning the mask of the killer, it is finally time for Tommy to put the entire story behind him and incinerate the body so that it will not trouble anyone ever again. Arriving at the cemetery with his friend Allen, the two start digging and uncover the corpse of Jason as it continues to rot. Seeing the body only brings back bad memories for Tommy and he is ready to finish what he started many years ago. Pulling a steel bar off of the fence and driving it through the killer’s body, Tommy gets ready to add the gasoline when a couple of lightning strikes hit the steel and revive Jason Voorhees to his natural state. Barely getting away with his life, Tommy sees his best friend killed and heads to the police station to tell them what he has done. Sheriff Garris is not too pleased to see Tommy back in his town, especially after what happened at his previous facility. Only seeing that Tommy is looking to fight, he locks up the young man, but is surprised when his daughter Megan shows up with her friends. Not hearing from their fellow counselors, Darren and Lizbeth, the group is worried that something might have happened to them. Going to Camp Forrest Green, which was formerly Camp Crystal Lake, Tommy knows that Jason is behind the couple going missing. Telling his story that was only a legend to the new kids in town, Megan takes a liking to the stranger and wants to know more.
Being granted a pass to leave town, Tommy jumps in his truck and takes the Sheriff on a chase that ends at Jason’s grave. To his surprise, the grave has been filled in and now the young man looks crazier than ever. Taking him to the outskirts of town and releasing him, Garris can only hope that the Jarvis boy steers clear of his county, but when he gets a call about Darren and Lizbeth’s bodies being found, his mind turns dark. Knowing that Tommy will do anything to prove that Jason is alive and well and hunting, Tommy Jarvis has become suspect number one.
Megan and her friends Sissy, Cort and Paula are getting everything set up at Camp Forrest Green when Megan realizes she really wants to know more about this Tommy character. Staying at the Sheriff’s Office with her father the Sheriff, she hears about the bodies starting to pile up around the area. Not believing that Tommy is involved, she is lucky to get a call from him, but is shocked that he wants to stay in town and finish what he started. With a plan to return Jason to the lake at the camp that initially killed him as a boy, Tommy believes that it is the only way to stop the carnage. With the police force trying to find Tommy and bodies lining up in a direct path to Camp Crystal Lake, it will be a wonder if anyone is able to survive the undead wrath of Jason Voorhees once more. This was really the first Friday the 13th movie that truly showed in the story that it was a movie with all of the odd looks at the camera and witty dialogue about movies. I kind of liked it, especially after there was a movie without Jason killing the wicked. Just when I was starting to like the new counselors, they were gone too soon and the only one that mattered was Megan, with her little crush on Tommy throughout. I at least liked how the two played off of each other, and the silliness that ensued when Jason was finally spotted. With plenty of fun kills and the first time I have seen paintball being featured in a movie, it was a little bit refreshing that I could enjoy really a ‘story less’ movie with plenty of kills as the legend of Jason Voorhees has been reborn into a monster that nothing can stop. Stay Scared.
