Written by Scott Edwards There are many times that you are put in a situation that could leave you feeling a bit uncomfortable. Looking back, many of these situations involve your family in one way or another and although you love them, there are sometimes when you just need to say no. It is difficult to say no to family, but if you feel that you are being put into a no-win situation, it is just something that you need to do. Jimmy and his sister Ellie have had a tough road. With their parents dying at an early age, Ellie has had to take over the motherly duties for her little brother and it is starting to take a toll on her. Working her way up the ladder at a television show, she is making a good living for herself and still finding time for her other urges, but Jimmy is not happy with the situation, especially when he has to wait around for anything from his sister. Ellie still tries to put herself first in most situations and an ongoing relationship with her boyfriend Jake seems to keep her emotionally grounded. But Jake seems to be holding back in the relationship and Ellie cannot figure out why that is. Being late in picking up Jimmy from school, Ellie tries to get them home as fast as possible when a large animal hits the car. Distracted and oblivious, Ellie hits another car, driving it off of the street and into an over vegetated ravine. Checking on the heath of the other driver, Jimmy and Ellie try to pry her free of the overturned car, but something dragged the woman away and devoured her in front of the siblings eyes, while injuring them as well. Jimmy will not let the accident go and tries to figure out what it is that he saw and bit him. With all of his research is pointing him in the direction of the occult, Jimmy is sure that it was a werewolf that attacked him and his sister. Although Ellie will not listen to such gibberish, Jimmy finds that they both have the mark of the beast on their hands and will have to find a way to keep themselves safe and out of the public eye before the full moon approaches. Ellie does not notice a change to herself but finds that everyone at her office is starting to take notice in her more than ever, while Jimmy finds out that he has caught the eye of his high school crush and has the power to impress her now. Cursed follows the lives of the brother and sister team of Jimmy and Ellie after they have been attacked by a werewolf. When Jimmy does the research into the occult and finds clues pointing him in the direction that he will be changed by the first full moon, he tries to raise concern with his sister, but she will not listen to such nonsense. When the two start to change however, Ellie has to find a way to control her urges before someone ends up getting hurt. Trying to confide in her boyfriend, Jake, she finds out that the secret he has been keeping from her is much worse than she could imagine as he holds the key to her and Jimmy’s human survival. I can’t say that this is a light hearted movie in many ways with how much killing actually occurs, but I did find myself laughing quite often during it. With werewolves roaming the streets and taking whatever it is that they want, when they want it, I think that this is the finest modern werewolf movie out there. With a great storyline and some of the hottest talent of the day, it is hard not to find a place in your heart for Wes Craven’s dog story. With two different storylines between the brother and sister being utilized to the fullest, it is fun to see how they both handle their new infection while not going too crazy and eating everyone in sight. Stay Scared!
