Written by Scott Edwards No matter what some people think, there is always something behind Urban Legends. For that haunted house where people were supposedly carved up, could have once been owned by a famous surgeon, or the person whose spirit walks the streets of a small town looking for justice, might have died under circumstances involving their bad reputation. Finding out what leads to these stories is important, so that we have a better understanding of why people believe in them, even though it is just easier to say that people are stupid for doing so. While I am not sold completely on the legend involving people chanting something into mirrors in the dead of night, you will not find me doing it anytime soon, I mean, haven’t you ever seen Candyman??? That movie still messes with me to this day. Celebrating her sixteenth birthday on Halloween, young Mary is having a great time with a couple of her girlfriends, but as the night moves in, so does the boredom. With one friend suggesting that they watch a scary movie, Mary is quick to point out that she does not believe in that paranormal stuff, and besides that, it is not scary to her at all. Needing to come up with another plan to make the night somewhat memorable, the friends suggest a Bloody Mary session in the upstairs bathroom. Not believing that anything will happen, Mary goes along with the idea and the girls head upstairs. As midnight quickly approaches, the girls set up several candles in the bathroom and are ready to start the Bloody Mary chant to see if what they have heard and read about is real. After the third Bloody Mary makes its way out of their mouths, the girls stand and wait while the spirit is forced to manifest once again. Unbeknown to Mary’s parent’s downstairs what the girls are up to, they are making their own little racket while cleaning up the mess from the night’s party, not being able to hear a thing from the upstairs. As the apparent, failed experiment into the urban legend, comes to an end, the girls find out firsthand that Bloody Mary is real and that she has a message for all of the non-believers. Just a new take on an old Urban Legend that seems to make its way around all of the time on the internet these days. While Bloody Mary usually seems to like to freak people out a little bit, this one is looking for blood and really does not like haters in any way. I liked how the story took you to Bloody Mary’s grave and gave you an idea why she might be upset when people don’t believe in her, it seemed to be a long trip and anyone would be upset with having to do that once a night. With a birthday party, some cake, plenty of dirty dishes, some candles, a non-believer, some curious friends, a loud dishwasher and a pissed off spirit, this is just a fun look as to where the Bloody Mary legend can be off to next. Stay Scared. See ‘Bloody Mary’ on Amazon Prime.
