Written by Scott Edwards It is hard to know what you are meant to do, especially when you are not willing to grow up. With so many options out there, a normal job is only a cover for many people, since there is much more that they would rather be doing. Trying to find out your purpose in this life is difficult, especially when you are not willing to let the voices talk to you and give you some sort of direction. Many people will never find out their true potential when all is said and done and if they are alright with that, more power to them, but for the believers in something greater, the strive to find this purpose never ends and a few lucky ones will find it before their days run out. Knowing that he has found the perfect balance between life and work, Aaron Boone is in a really good place and with his girlfriend Lori by his side, he could not ask for anything better. Wanting to get away for a while, Lori pitches the idea that the two just run away to a place where there are no phones so it can be just them, but Aaron has to work to pay the bills and while he wants to leave, this is not the right time. With the phone ringing off of the hook Aaron finally answers a call from his former psychologist Dr. Decker who needs to talk to him right away. Not knowing what the doctor is going to tell him, Aaron schedules a time and heads off to see his old shrink. Arriving in the doctor’s office to see Dr. Decker very shaken, Aaron is forced to re-live all of the problems he faced in the past, especially his happy place Midian, where he could be forgiven for all of his sins. Aaron does not understand what this has to do with anything, but Dr. Decker has put the pieces together about a rash of murders that have taken place over the past ten months and Aaron is the primary suspect. Giving his former patient twenty four hours to turn himself in, Dr. Decker gives Aaron a bottle of pills that should stop his nightmares and keep his voices at bay. Getting home and reflecting on all of the nightmares that have become reality, Aaron believes that he could be the killer and needs to find a way to escape to the only place he can, Midian. With new visions taking over his mind, Aaron finds himself in the hospital after being hit by a truck. Finding out that he was taking hallucinogens, Aaron finds out that his new journey in life is just getting started. Hearing another patient talking about Midian, Aaron finds out where it is and needs to get there to be with the other monsters that have found refuge there for generations. But when arriving at the old cemetery, he is not greeted with open arms, but a rather disturbing message that he has been lied to about who and what he is. Being forced out into the hands of the police that are looking to take him down, Aaron gets shot several times and is left for dead. But little does anybody know what Aaron has in store for the afterlife. Being killed as an innocent man has no effects on Aaron, but not saying goodbye to his love changes everything and he will do anything to keep Lori safe from the evil world that surrounds them. Anytime you pitch a movie to me that has monsters in it, I am always game to watch it. Even though these are not the beasts from your dreams, there are some pretty scary ones in this flick, but the living breed is much worse. Watching as Aaron goes from an outcast in Midian to being accepted is great, especially when Lori is doing everything in her power to be with him again. Showing the evil that will keep him alive outside of the cemetery is eye opening for everyone as the smell of blood is the only thing that can keep him going outside of love. Just a fun horror movie to watch and I really wish there was a second installment to see how Aaron could take over the community, but I guess that is just a dream. Stay Scared.

Written by Scott Edwards There are times when things are not going well, and you need to take a break from life. Being able to take a vacation and put all of your worries in the rear-view mirror is one of the best ways to do this and if you are able to do so with your family or friends, it is even better. Knowing the troubles that you are going through, a change in scenery with loved ones can make all of the difference in the world to you. Even if you are feeling somber and don’t want the world to see you in this state, if you go to a place where nobody knows you, they will not know what is going on inside of you and that will help keep the positive vibes flowing. A year after losing her brother, Sarah is finally ready to do something for herself and taking a trip to Tel Aviv with her best friend will just about fill that void. Getting a traveling present from her father, Sarah is now the proud owner of a pair of Smart Glasses allowing her to document every single moment of her trip. Getting onto the plane, the girls find that the young man sitting next to them is quite charming and an archeologist to boot. Young Kevin has been able to see the world and wants to fully experience the next place on his travels, Jerusalem, and is able to get the girls to buy in and go with him. Checking in with her father about the change in plans, Sarah has no idea what will be happening in the city as Yom Kippur rolls in. Arriving at a beautiful hostel Rachel finds a guy of her own as the owner’s son Omar wants to show them around the town. Getting to see the best views of the city, Sarah, Kevin, Rachel and Omar head out for a night on the town and hit up all of the best clubs. But all is not well for Sarah as she is turned off by Kevin’s reaction to her brother's death and tries to find her way back to the hostel. Getting lost on the way, Kevin is able to find her and deliver her to safety and Sarah has only one way of repaying him. Waking up in the middle of the night, Kevin is worried about something that he has seen on the darkweb that really has him shaken. Sharing the link with Sarah, she sees an angel of death in her glasses and does not know what to think. Wanting to believe that it was all made up, Kevin continues to see signs around the old city and drives himself crazy knowing that something bad is about to happen. But nobody pays him any mind, that is until fighter jets start flying overhead and bomb the streets of the old city. With an alert being sent out to everyone in the city to exit before the gates are shut, the group must find a way to leave before the undead that are walking around the streets make them their next meal. Quite the awesome little movie I must admit, and I was blown away by the acting and some of the effects that were thrown on the screen. The thing I liked most about the story is that since it really does revolve around Sarah and the loss of her brother, the strange things do not happen around the city until she puts what she wants in the Western Wall. Trying to exit the city when the gates have been closed was just a joy to watch as you get to see some of the sights in the nighttime while the battle for Jerusalem commences with the forces of evil. I would have liked to have seen a little bit more of the battle with the undead, as nobody really seemed to know where to find the weaknesses on the walking dead, but I get it since Sarah would need to be present in order to witness that discovery, so I can let that part go. A good movie with the undead, partying, booze and even a mental institution. Stay Scared. Five Takeaways
Written by Scott Edwards When you are feeling down about yourself and your situation, it is hard to believe that other people are having a joyous time in their own lives. But when you find out what it is that will make you happy, most people neglect to share that information, not because they are ashamed, but because they are afraid of what others will think of them. It is hard to know if what you have found will be right for somebody else, but you never know what they are into until you put your cards on the table. You may find that there are people out there that share your same interests and are having a great time pursuing them and never have to second guess their lives again. While at the video store, Mike Wilson watches as a customer ridicules the poor clerk and knows that there is a better life waiting out there for this young man. Asking Bart what he would do to the a-hole customer if he could do anything, Bart comes back with 'beat him to death with a sledgehammer.' Backtracking on the comment, Bart decides that he would settle for shooting the man instead and Mike is ready to make his dream come true. Pulling out a pistol, he catches the jerk-of-a-customer in the parking lot and before he is able to leave, Mike lets a shot go and shows Bart that there are greater things in life than just working a dead end job. Mike Wilson has found his calling in life by becoming a serial killer and he knows that there are more people out there that could embrace the call of murder just as he has over the years. With his new apprentice Bart by his side, Mike is ready to show the young man what it is all about, especially since the world needs more population control when it comes to people not being thankful for what they have. Driving the streets with Bart, Mike goes over the rules of how to be a serial killer and shows the young man how easy it really is. Looking for targets, Mike makes sure that Bart understands compassion when it comes to picking out the right one and just because someone is down on their luck does not mean that they deserve to die. While taking in all of the information that Mike is throwing his way, Bart has questions of his own and is starting to get inside the head of his teacher. While he sees that Mike is in a healthy relationship with Abigail, he wonders what would happen if Mike’s secret was ever discovered by her. Not knowing how she would react, Mike would rather not think about it, but now the seed has been planted in the back of his brain and he cannot get it out of his mind. Even though killing comes easy to Mike, a mistake takes place making him the prime suspect and it causes Mike to deviate from his normal lifestyle. With Bart by his side, the two men feel like they can take on the world together but find out that not everybody will share their values when all is said and done. Talk about a change of lifestyles for anyone that is willing to take the leap. I love how Mike sells the job and loves his work as he weans the population of bad people down in one of the biggest cities in the world. The amazement and enthusiasm for the job that Bart shows is just fun as he is taking it all in and learning all of the rules. This movie also featured a documentary style when it came to telling the story, which actually was enjoyable since you get to see how everyone else views Mike and his practices. With a ten-step training program being prompted throughout, you get to know all of the basics before time runs out. Written by Scott EdwardsIt seems silly, but there are people in your life that you seem to trust no matter what. No matter how many times they leave you high and dry or just flat out lie to you, you will continue to listen to them and believe what they are saying. I don’t know how this gets programmed into our minds over the years, and I would think that we would try to remove these people from our lives, yet we cannot. Even though it may seem impossible to let these people go for one reason or another, just make sure to protect yourself from them the best you can, because in the end, that is all we can do. After being thrown to the wolves in Washington by Wesker, Alice is back on the road once again. Searching another abandoned shack and disposing of some zombies that are in the wrong place at the wrong time, Alice hears the air raid siren go off, then mysteriously stop. Not knowing what could have caused this, she is greeted once again by the Red Queen who has some very bad news for the former Umbrella employee as time for the last survivors is drawing short. With kill squads being sent to every refuge by Umbrella to finish the job that the T-virus has not, there is an air born anti-virus which can stop it for good. Not knowing if she can believe the Red Queen, Alice has forty-eight hours to save the world, even if it will wind up killing her. Needing to make her way back to where it all began, Alice needs to return to her old home of Raccoon City to retrieve the anti-virus. But that is not all that is on her mind as Wesker will be there waiting for yet another reunion between the two foes. Hitting a spike strip on the road that leaves her car out of commission, the zombie killer spots a motor cycle that might get her to the final destination sooner than later, but there is a catch as she spots the Umbrella logo on the side. Fighting off another hit squad, Alice has free reign to the bike, but is left unconscious when its security measures kick in. Waking up and seeing the face of Dr. Isaacs, Alice has been captured once again and the good doctor has another use for her. With his convoy up and running towards Raccoon City as well, the Umbrella employees are herding up a massive army of zombies to unleash on any settlements along the way. With the clock not in her favor, Alice is able to escape his evil clutches once again and returns home as fast as possible. Getting distracted and wrecking her bike, she wakes up once again to find her old friend Claire is hiding out with another group of survivors. Catching up very quickly as an army the likes of which has never been seen before is approaching, Alice helps the survivors set up a trap for anyone that wants to mess with them. As the clock keeps ticking and the horde approaches, hell on earth is unleashed, but will it be enough to allow Alice to enter the Hive that released the apocalypse ten years earlier? Well, according to the title, this is the final chapter of the Resident Evil series and while it is far from the best story, you once again get to see more action than you can shake a stick at. I will admit that this was more of a video game movie than the others when it came to the fights and effects, which is not a bad thing at all. Bringing back Isaacs and Wesker to reveal the secret that Umbrella has been hiding all of this time was great and you should never be surprised to see anyone that you believed dead in this series make a comeback, because we saw all the clones of Alice from a couple of movies ago. I liked how Alice was willing to put her life on the line for a small amount of survivors across the globe, since she has been doing this the entire series, but with the promise of killing the T-virus, things do get a little more real for her mortality. With action, guns, gasoline, zombies, headshots, the Cerberus program, missing limbs and did I mention action? This is a decent installment for what we believe to be the final movie of the series, but you can always believe that if the people want it, there might be another. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards Finding out quickly that the Arcadia is not a ship that anyone wants to be on, Alice and her group are forced to fight harder since the Umbrella Corporation has unleashed hell once again. But being outnumbered and outgunned, the survivors have little chance of surviving as the ship goes up in flames and Alice has been retrieved by Umbrella once again and they want to know what her motives are. Being kept in her cell and being questioned by her old friend Jill and punished when not answering, a computer hack takes down the complex for two minutes. Getting some clothes to wear, Alice makes her way out of her cell and finds herself on the streets of Tokyo. Being able to find some weapons and hearing a voice saying ‘simulation active’, she finds herself in a war with the undead, but this time there is a chance for escape as doors continue to open up to take her to safety. Getting access to the central control hub of the Hive, Alice is greeted by Ada Wong, a top operative of the Umbrella Corporation and she finds out that Ada is working against the company as well. But her true savior is Albert Wesker who was able to hack the systems and free Alice from the Red Queen. Finding out that Umbrella is trying something new now that the Red Queen has become focused on killing all of humanity, they need Alice back and fighting with them to save the last of mankind. With an extraction team on their way to free the two women, it is only a matter of time before they are able to see the light of day again, but they have to continue to move throughout the maze of simulations. Fighting their way through New York, Ada and Alice eventually find themselves in a suburban setting and when Alice notices movement in one of the houses, she is forced to investigate. Killing a zombie and finding a little girl who seems to be her daughter, Alice finds out that the cloning tech that Umbrella has used against her is now being used to make limitless clones for the company's simulations. Wanting to save Becky from the Red Queen, Alice decides that her daughter will get a better life in the outside world. But before she is able to leave the house, her former strike team from the first Hive shows up and now she is forced to kill her dead friends. Meanwhile, on the other side of the simulation floor, the extraction team has run into a problem of their own since the Red Queen is sending everything that she has at them. Being assisted by Alice during their escape, their plan will finally be put into motion and getting back to the surface is their number one priority. But Alice is more human than weapon now and even though they have been directed to get her out at any cost, she is merely a woman who has not lost her feelings about other survivors. Getting hacked by the Red Queen and being forced to make the hard decisions, the group is able to make their way back to the surface, but the fight does not end when you leave the Hive, the arena just gets bigger. I see what the filmmakers were trying to do with the storyline in the fifth installment of Resident Evil and while it was a decent attempt, it did not do it for me. But the action in this movie trumps every other entry in the franchise and with countless zombie kills, I am still blown away by one thing, a chainsaw kill that made me cheer. Trying to invoke more emotion out of Alice by having her kill her former friends is a little too much of a stretch for me and while the idea that she had an alternate family with Carlos was cute and all, it was not enough to change who she really was. It seems like having a child would change how she acts, but overall, it was just the same Alice that has been fighting for the survivors all along. I also liked seeing Luther West make a cameo in this movie since he was fun and full of jokes in the last movie he appeared in, so that added some levity and Luther is as kick ass as ever. It will be interesting to see where the story goes in The Final Chapter. To be honest, when I started writing these, I had no idea that there was another movie coming out so soon, but here it is. Just looking at what notes are on IMDB, I can see that Raccoon City is back in the mix once again, but I am unsure about how Umbrella will be involved as the baddies this time around, since it is the Red Queen who is looking to end the world and not the other way around. But you know what, it only takes one magical line in the script for the storyline makes sense so I am hoping that it is delivered with some feeling. All I am really hoping for with this new movie is that it gives us some of the greatest zombie kills we have ever seen in the series and something that ties the series back to where it began and why Alice is the only one who can contain the virus and either destroy or save the world. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards As the Umbrella Corporation becomes more powerful, is it any wonder why Alice must keep fighting them? With the fourth installment of the Resident Evil series, you get to see how strong Alice has become and what kind of threat she can be towards Umbrella once and for all. With the world still falling into decline, and nobody willing to help, it is easy to put all of the blame on the Umbrella Corporation for releasing hell upon the planet, but they might be the only ones to blame, since they are not the ones that are carrying the virus around in their blood. In a matter of months, Alice has been able to train her very own clone army to dismantle the Umbrella Corporation piece by piece. Being able to infiltrate the Japanese office, Alice has her sights set on the company's commander, Albert Wesker. With each clone falling in its own way, Wesker is able to escape the Hive, but the real Alice is along for the ride. Injecting her with an anti-virus, the T-Virus will no longer have the same effects on her and the power she possesses is quickly taken away. Becoming human once again, Alice will have to be careful while she starts to hunt for her friends who went up to Alaska to find peace away from the zombies that have taken over the world. Arriving at where she thinks Arcadia is, Alice finds nothing but empty aircraft and starts to question what has happened to her friends. Seeing someone out of the corner of her eye, Alice gives chase to find out what happened in the abandoned location, but before a question can be asked a familiar face takes a couple swings at her. Knocking out her old friend Claire and finding some sort of mind control device on her chest, Alice has more questions than answers. Without being able to get any answers from Claire about what happened to the other survivors, Alice packs up her friend and starts flying down the coast looking any other survivors. Spying a rooftop that shows promise, Alice sees a couple life filled bodies that she may be able to help against the apocalypse. Landing on the top of a prison, the group there is shocked that she is not from the Arcadia but are happy to welcome a couple of new faces into their home. Angel, Luther, Bennett, Kim and Crystal are more than willing to show Alice and Claire around, but need to find a way to leave the prison before their time runs out there. Showing Alice that Arcadia is a ship anchored off of the coast, a plan starts to be hatched about how to get there, but with the hordes of zombies waiting for them outside of the gates, their ideas will not amount to much. As a new breed of zombies start to enter the prison, the group is forced to listen to the one man that says he has a surefire way out, but he has been locked up in a detention cell for a reason. Getting out of his cell, Chris sees his sister for the first time in years, but Claire does not remember who he is. Sharing his plan with the others, Chris knows the ins and outs around the prison and is ready to get things moving, but a larger mutation is at the door and the group will have to hustle before it breaks down the walls and allows the other zombies to enter. Getting enough firepower from the prison arsenal, Alice and Chris are ready to take their fight to the surface, but what they find when they get there is more zombies than they can possibly gun down. Being able to escape their soon to be tomb, the group is able to get on a boat and make their way to the Arcadia, but what they find there might be more disturbing than the walking death they left behind at the prison. I must admit I had my reservations about this movie, because why not end the series at three? But one thing that the Resident Evil series does a good job with is bringing new monsters to the table. With a new breed of tunneling zombies and a massive butcher, the threats of this zombie universe continue to get worse and humanity's outlook is looking pretty bleak. I love how the Umbrella Corporation is still up and running, and that they will stop at nothing to put an end to Alice and her reign. I also liked how Alice had to learn to be human again and it was different to see her be a bit more careful when she chose her shots. The prison group was great and if you did not like Luther, you must have been out of your mind. The additional zombies only add another wrinkle into Alice’s plan of saving survivors and now at the helm of the Arcadia, it might be more difficult for the Umbrella Corporation to stop her, but I guess we will have to see what Retribution brings to the table. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards Since I am taking on a ride with the Resident Evil franchise, it is time for the third installment of the series and where I thought the saga was going to end. But as long as there are zombies to kill and survivors that have yet to be infected, I think that this series will continue until the end of time. There are new ways in which Alice can be used in the series and with the addition of telekinetic powers now, she is truly one of a kind and it is now time that she takes to the streets to help everyone in need, including herself and despite the fact that the Umbrella Corporation has designed one of the greatest killing machines, especially when it comes to zombies, it does not appear that they are able to control her at all. Alice has taken to the road and is trying to stay off of the grid. It has been five years since the T-Virus has broken free of the Raccoon City barriers and now it has taken over the world. The earth has changed drastically since the outbreak and now most of it has become a barren wasteland where only the strongest can survive. Looking for survivors, Alice keeps her radio on and tries to help them the best she can, but not everyone wants to be saved as she quickly finds out. Carlos and L.J. have taken up with Claire who has become a savior to many people with her caravan. The only way to survive currently is to remain on the road, but there is a problem with that when it comes to getting enough fuel to make it work. Holding up at an abandoned hotel, Claire knows that time is limited, and unfortunately, she finds out that it is not only the walking dead that want people's flesh, all of the animals are now searching for a fresh meal as well. Being attacked from above by a batch of infected crows, more members of her caravan are taken out and even when Alice is able to help, Claire must remain in command for her people. Even though Alice can show the group great rewards, she is not what they need as they are running low on supplies and must find a way to survive without the outsider. Doctor Isaacs is trying to find a cure for the outbreak but continues to run into speed bumps along the way. With an endless supply of Alice clones, each one develops and learns from the memories of its predecessors, but they are not learning fast enough and harvesting the fallen clones' blood for a new anti-virus is not working. With a promise to other Umbrella Corp members to find a way to make the infected more docile, Isaacs knows that the only way to make it work is by getting the original Alice’s blood in his lab. Hearing that there are psychic spikes being reported in the vast desert, Alice must be back on the grid and Isaacs needs to bring her in sooner rather than later. Being shut down by his superiors, the doctor is able to write his own ticket to do what he knows must be done, even if it means dying in the process. Seeing the problems that Claire's group is experiencing, Alice is happy to stay and help and she tells Claire about the journal that she has located. With the promise of a safe haven away from the zombie madness, Alice believes that there is a refuge in Alaska that could make all of the nightmares go away. As Claire’s caravan votes yes for the trip, they must find supplies to make the long trek up the coastline. With all of the small towns already being exhausted of supplies, they will be forced to stop in Las Vegas. Seeing that the desert has taken the city of sin back, the group searches for supplies, only to find that there is someone searching for them as well. As Dr. Isaacs is hidden above the streets, he unleashes a special brand of zombies on to the group that are much more powerful than the average walking corpse. Killing off most of Claire’s caravan group, he turns his attention to the grand prize of Alice. Trying to shut her down via satellite, he sees that the woman has become more powerful than he has ever imagined and when Alice finds out the doctor's plans for her, she is forced to take matters into her own hands and tries to kill him before he is able to produce anything worse. The third movie in the series turned out to be quite the bloodbath. With nobody safe, you lose a couple of your favorite characters and that might be why I thought it could be the end of the series, but I guess I was wrong. I really like the addition of telekinesis with Alice as her foes start to get stronger and larger in numbers. Even though she has been tucked away from the Umbrella Corporation, she has not given up on humanity just yet and continues to have the means to kill so many zombies. Claire is nice addition to the story as she is trying to do the right thing but is running out of ways to make good things happen. Wanting to give her people something positive, she is hesitant to bring up the Alaska idea, but when she sees their reaction, she knows that it was the right thing to do. Seeing Carlos and L.J. back for another ride was fun, you don’t usually get too many characters returning in zombie movies, so you know that they could handle themselves without Alice holding their hands. With so much action and one of the most visually impressive movies to date in the series (the crows scene), it is good to see Alice come back and hopefully she can put an end to the madness that the Umbrella Corporation has unleashed upon the world in Afterlife. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards One of the things that I hate about sequels is that they never really stand up to the original. There have been some that are better than the original, but those are few and far between. But one thing that Resident Evil: Apocalypse did that made me very happy was it actually picked up right where the first one left off and that you never see. It is not only for that reason why I enjoyed watching this movie, but it was a big part of it, since I love watching society break down during an epidemic, at least in the movies. Jill Valentine has been called into work on her day off and knowing what is happening on the streets, she has a plan of her own, to leave town. Getting to the police station and killing the zombies that are trying to bite the officers, she offers her two cents and then leaves for the evacuation center. But seeing everyone in the crowd, and the madness that is surrounding her, she is forced back on duty to help her friends. But it doesn't take long for the infection to reach the barrier now surrounding Raccoon City and Major Cain is told to shut down the evacuation and makes it known that he will shoot anyone that does not comply with his orders. With the Umbrella Corporation running the show, all of the essential personnel that live above ground in Raccoon City are evacuated, but one man is giving the teams problems. Doctor Ashford will not leave the city without his daughter and even though he is a priority, the men cannot make him get on the helicopters. As everything is getting more and more out of hand in the streets of Raccoon City, Major Cain takes the alternative route and activates two of the test programs that were being prepared for this situation, Project Alice and Project Nemesis. As the two programs are completely different, Cain wants to see how they are able to react and destroy the zombie threat before the city is completely overrun by the T-Virus that Umbrella has unleashed on the city. After waking up in the hospital, Alice is quick to exit and find any sort of weapon she can get her hands on to abolish the threat that she has faced firsthand. Finding a small group of survivors hiding out in a church, Alice is able to get them to follow her to find a way to safety. As Jill, Peyton and Terri listen to what happened to Alice, they are suddenly afraid that she might cause more harm than good, but seeing how she fights and that she knows how to kill the monsters that are on the streets, it would be a wise decision to stay with her for the time being. While trying to find a place to lay low, the group gets a call from Dr. Ashford, offering them safe removal from the city before time runs out and it is sanitized by the Umbrella Corporation, if they find his little girl. Needing to find his daughter, Alice and her followers make their way to the Raccoon City Junior School to investigate and hopefully get a free pass out of the city. Seeing a woman in trouble, Carlos Olivera forces his team to land in the city and pick up the fight where everyone else has left off. Even though they cannot save everyone, they are on the streets to dispose of as much of the zombie threat that they can before extraction. With their coms down, they are not able to call in for an extraction point, much less ask for more help. Seeing a helicopter making its way into the city, the men try to flag it down, but are not seen by the pilot. With a payload being dropped, the men go to investigate, but find out what ever was in the boxes was not for them. Carlos comes to terms with being expendable and is ready to hang it up, but when he gets a call from Dr. Ashford as well to find his daughter, there may be an end to this madness after all. Joining forces, the remaining survivors from both groups work together to find Angie Ashford, but when they do, Alice makes a great discovery, the girl is infected. But she is not the only one as the group finds out that Alice has been infected as well and the T-Virus is keeping both of the women alive. With the promise of getting out of the city alive, Dr. Ashford is able to give them directions to find the last helicopter leaving the city, but the group will have to fight with all they are worth to get on it, not because of the soldiers protecting it, but because the copter is meant for Nemesis. Seeing the large beast face to face, Alice and Nemesis are forced to fight to the death or everyone else in her group will be killed. But Alice has a different idea, especially after she finds out Matt is the mind inside of the overgrown killing machine that is ready to destroy her. The Red Queen did say that a tiny bit of humanity could possibly still reside in the infected and Alice has to find a way to unlock it to ensure that her new friends survive. Not a bad follow up to the original Resident Evil and while it is not as good as the first, only a few changes would have had people enjoying it that much more. I was disappointed that the T-Virus had mutated back to its original stage of being airborne and nobody called it out. The entire city is infected from just breathing, but that was never hit on, I know this would have ended the movie quickly if they did since nobody would be able to leave the city, but come on, there could have been more anti-virus somewhere. I could not stand Major Cain and I think that was the point of his character, so I think it was played extremely well. Being the worst of the worst, he showed what kind of people Umbrella needs to ensure that things get done, but he also had some personal love for the job and that was a bit disturbing. The addition of another hero, Jill Valentine, was unexpected and I liked it. Having two women that are stronger than an entire army, there is nothing wrong with that, especially in a zombie movie. I really like how Alice has become a program for Umbrella and that she has bonded with the T-Virus, it means she cannot be infected, and it also means that she will have some uncontrollable power in the next movie. I hope that Extinction has some more action and that it is following the rules that Apocalypse did, it would make for a dimmer outlook for survival. Stay Scared. For the most part, season finales have now become a fine science, thanks to the wonder of peak television. Simply because there are so many examples out there now of what a quality finale looks like, allowing for everyone to borrow from what has become quite the satisfying formula. Wherein every plot thread introduced within the framework of the season is addressed in a proper and pleasing manner for the audience, or where big surprises come into play to prepare everyone for next season’s thrilling storylines. But while a vast majority of shows subscribe to this particularly wonderful structure, there are still some out there that are eager to buck the trend and try something new. Take Servant for instance. For this is a story that was building toward some big-time answers for its season one finale. Such as why Leanne chose to help the Turner family and whether or not she would remain loyal after learning about how Jericho died. Plus, we also seemed primed to learn every detail there is to know about Leanne’s incredible power, such as whether or not she can raise the dead, and how she obtained this power and why she has it in the first place. But rather than go the traditional route and provide the audience with all kinds of incredible revelations and stunning moments that satisfy our curiosity, ‘Balloon’ is a story that was mostly devoid of answers. Instead this particular tale opted to world build as much as possible. But before we break down said world-building, let’s take a moment and discuss the answers that we actually did get in this finale. Because it was nice to outright confirm that Leanne is not a villain after all, but someone that really does want to help people with the incredible power that she carries at her fingertips. For this episode also did confirm that Leanne can in fact, raise the dead by means we still don’t fully understand. But while the how and the why in regard to her power wasn’t revealed here, it was nice to establish her intentions and finally feel something for her other than suspicion. In fact, the only thing the audience could feel for Leanne in this story was pity, since we also came to learn that she’s something of a pawn. For this story took the time to introduce us to her disturbing and eerie Aunt May, who decided now was the perfect time to show up with Uncle George and reclaim their baby girl and that’s where the world-building came into play. Since it was revealed that Leanne more or less escaped some kind of wild cult, one that believes that Leanne’s power should be used at their discretion and they genuinely believe that the wicked and unjust should be punished. A belief that we came to discover by way of the fact that Jericho’s revitalized spirit disappeared from the doll by the end of this tale and that Sean can no longer feel any pain, thanks to a little prayer session with Uncle George and the other important element we came to uncover about this cult, is that they are also quite powerful. Because it seems they are able to teleport on a moment’s notice and well, seeing that in action, made for one wild ending to this tale. Because it in essence, leaves the audience confused and curious and out of sorts since we were expecting resolution and progress storytelling wise, and while some will definitely lament this ending, this reviewer is happy to applaud it. For this is a bold move storytelling wise, since it embroils the Turners in a situation and a world that they don’t understand. And now that they’ve been robbed of happiness and feeling and Leanne’s kindness, it sets the stage for a redemption arc down the line. One where they need to prove their worth to themselves and perhaps the universe before they find closure. Plus, this cult is something of serious interest since they clearly have a grand plan and powers at their fingertips and that leaves one eager to enjoy season two of this series. Because clearly, there is a long-term storytelling plan in place, and it will be incredibly interesting to see where this wild tale takes us when year two gets underway. Until next year. Written by Scott Edwards How difficult it must be for people that work in a place where they do not agree with the ethics of their employer. I have dealt with this situation with some past managers during my long working tenure and most of the time, those managers were released from their position. I will never say that I am a perfectly ethical employee, but when something is not being done to better the business, it has no place in the office and I have made it known that I will not be a part of it. But there are so many people that keep their mouths shut when it comes to confronting their leadership about what is right and wrong and instead of taking a stance, they wind up leaving without saying a word. Keeping that inside of you over time is not healthy and when someone starts to do something wrong at your new job, you end up releasing your fury from the last one that left you scorned. Waking up in the shower while it is still running, Alice is lost and confused. Being able to find clothes to dress up in, she starts to take a tour of the large house surrounding her, but there is one problem, she has no idea who or where she is. When making it to the front door, she is grabbed by Matt who says he is a police officer, but before she is able to confirm his story, the house is breached by a group of elite soldiers. Trying to get a report out of Alice, Group Leader One sees that she will not be any help to him and the group must make their way down to the Hive to find out what set off their alarms. With reports that the main computer, the Red Queen, killed everyone in the Hive, the group is forced to find out why. Being able to gain access to the Hive, which is buried under Raccoon City, the group is joined by one more person who was hidden on the train. Spence is suffering the same affliction as Alice and has no idea what is happening around him. While Alice starts to get brief flashbacks about her life, she is forced to continue moving with the soldiers until they reach the main power supply of the Hive. Not finding anyone alive in the facility is frightening to the group and without any answers as to why the Red Queen turned homicidal on all of the people in the facility, they must keep their guard up. Arriving at the core of the Hive, the group of soldiers are cut in half by the computer's defenses, but the system is eventually rebooted. But unlocking all of The Hive’s secrets will give the remaining force much more to think about as the doors open to reveal what happened to the people working here, because the Red Queen did indeed kill everyone in the facility and took it one step further by making use of the classified experiments that went on in the Hive, bringing the dead back to life in the process and unfortunately, the group finds out first hand that the experiments have worked all too well. Having to fight off a horde of zombies, there is still something more sinister hiding in the shadows and the Umbrella Corporation has not been very forth coming about what they are really up to in their underground facilities. While finding out what she is capable of when fighting the undead threat, Alice starts to gain more memories about who she was before being knocked out in her home. Finding out what the Hive was really doing, she was going to take a stand against Umbrella, but now has to fight for her life and the lives of the other survivors instead. In a race against time, the remaining few are forced to take steps and come to terms that their survival is completely dependent on the computer program that they came to kill and they will have to play by its rules until they are able to find a way back to the surface. I have never gotten into the Resident Evil games, so I am not sure how the movie really translated, but I liked how the storyline came together. Watching as Alice started to finally understand who she was and what her task is was great. I did however develop a soft spot for Matt as he was one of the ‘rebels’ against the Umbrella Corporation that wanted to take it down and had lost a sister in the process. With a ton of action, there is something for everyone, and even a couple of laughs before the credits roll. I would hate to see what would happen if there really was a T-Virus and how it could infect the world if it broke free from a laboratory, it is kind of scary if you think about it. A strong start to the series and I hope that the rest of the movies keep my attention as much as this one did. Stay Scared. |
