Written by Scott Edwards Everyone wants to do something special with their friends or loved ones. That could entail taking them to a show that they have always wanted to see, entertaining at a dinner theater, or even taking an evening off from the world cuddled up in front of the fire. There is always something that makes people forget what is happening in the world that is making their lives miserable, finding and acting on it is what can make a regular night turn extraordinary. Joe and his friends are looking for a night out of the ordinary. Wanting to make it something memorable, they have heard of a bar hidden out in the reeds that is difficult to get to, but worth the adventure. When their first boat charter falls through, they are forced to look for another one to get to their destination. Finding another boat for the night, the group jumps at the plan, but there is something strange surrounding the vessel as a group of kids have claimed it for their own. Getting the kids to shove off, the group is on their way with an old map in hand. After their first couple of hours pass by, they start to question if this is a good idea or not. While holding up and discussing their next move, they spot someone hiding in the reeds that might be able to help them. Chasing down what they assume to be kids, Mel comes back to the boat a different man, no longer fun loving on the voyage, but a very bitter individual. As the weather takes a turn for the worse, Joe tells everyone to get below deck, but when hearing strange sounds around the boat, he tries to investigate but runs into a metal cage under the water that has pierced the hull of the boat, along with the sternum of Mel. Wanting to free the boat, along with save his friend, Joe heads through the waters ahead to locate a light he has seen in the distance. Leaving Laura and Nick in charge of what happens on the boat, the two take charge and try to find a way to safety. After Nick divulges that he does not know how to swim, he is knocked in the water and comes across the watery grave that has held up their adventure. Releasing a girl’s dead body from her iron cage, the group starts to hear strange sounds coming from the reeds that are headed right for the boat. As everyone tries to hide below deck, they hear the footsteps above them, along with gun shots. When trying to investigate, they find nothing on the boat and know they have to move on, but everyone is afraid of what they might find next as their trip has turned into a nightmare. What better way to describe this movie by calling it a twisted mind mystery horror movie. I think that sums it up perfectly as you are put in the middle of a story that has you fall in love with a couple of the characters and watch as they fight to protect each other by sacrificing their own safety. Then you have a group of kids running around outside of the boat that may seem to be tormenting the group, but are trying to flag them down for help, but are they really there? I like how the story played out in this movie and I did fall in love with the Laura character as she was able to keep it together longer than everyone else. Sometimes all you need is the ability to listen, a machete and/or a shotgun to keep your wits about you. Stay Scared.

Written by John Edward Betancourt THIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...Fear, is perhaps, the most powerful emotion out there. Simply because, it is able to motivate us in negative and positive fashion. For it drives anyone who is chasing a dream or a career goal, to work harder and reach the finish line so that they don’t see what they seek slip away, and of course, it also brings out the worst in us. Because it can also drive us to hurt others or put our relationships at risk when we think something bad is hiding over the horizon and it just so happens that fear, and all the bad things that come with it were put on full display in the next episode of The Terror. For ‘Terror Camp Clear’ picked up shortly after Mister Hickey brutally murdered his shipmates and it turns out that his decision to turn upon them, was all part of a master plan to engender fear amongst those at the camp. Because Hickey told a terrifying tale of native Eskimos who brutally attacked his group and were likely preparing a counteroffensive since the marines put down the group that ‘harmed’ Irving and Farr and well, his lies quickly took root within the camp. For everyone was on edge and firmly believed that trouble was coming and several of the men begged Captain Crozier to open up the Armory to arm the men for this inevitable ambush. But something about the whole mess didn’t sit right with Francis, and he quickly set out to perform an investigation to understand exactly what happened to his men and it didn’t take long for him to realize that Hickey was once again lying and twisting the truth since everything seemed out of place. Which prompted the captain to order an autopsy on Irving, and that revealed the seal meat he ingested that the nice Eskimo offered the Lieutenant at the end of the last episode and with that evidence in hand, the time had come for Hickey to pay the piper and Crozier ordered the arrest of Mister Hickey and Mister Tozier, since the latter man worked to arm the men in a panic while the investigation was under way. Which meant that both men were facing charges for the worst crimes possible, and that meant the time had come for a public execution, wherein the captain and Hickey traded barbs and well, it was fascinating to see Hickey fight to the bitter end, since he still worked to sow insurrection and doubt by revealing that Francis tendered his resignation and was ready to run a year ago. But before more internal trouble could come forth, the men of the Erebus and the Terror paid the price for sending Lady Silence away in fear and for harming her people. For the Tuunbaq returned and ripped the camp and most of its men to shreds, leaving the fates of most of the me up in the air, and this attack also allowed for Hickey and his mutineers to escape. If anything, I truly appreciated the straight forward approach to this particular tale. For rather than drag out the mutiny over the course of several episodes, it brought everything to a head here, opening up all kinds of new storytelling possibilities for the final two episodes. Plus, I truly appreciated the fact that the story used the same direct approach when it comes to its examination of fear, since it let the characters handle the commentary instead of spelling it out via exposition, and it worked like a charm since we watched the dangers of fear unfold before our eyes. Either way, this was a hell of an episode, with a hell of an ending and well, I’m eager to see what comes next now that Tuunbaq has returned and wreaked utter havoc, which means it’s best I leave you now to dive back into this incredible story. Until next time. Written by Scott Edwards Losing your job when you are trying to support a family is tough, especially if you have kids. Giving the impression that there is nothing wrong has to be the hardest front to put up when your children are asking why they don’t have cable anymore, or why they are eating ramen noodles every night. Having to be strong for your family’s sake to make sure they do not panic from the lack of income that you have coming in every month is enough to tire anyone out and not want to even look for a new job. The Barrett family has fallen on hard times as Daniel has just been laid off and now all of the financial load has been put on his wife, Lacy. Not wanting to give the wrong impression around their neighborhood, Dan and Lacy have decided to stick to the story that he is going to be a stay at home father for the time being, but Dan is starting to feel the burden that he has placed on his wife. With their two sons, Sam and Jesse being kept in the dark about how bad things really are, they are going about their lives as usual and although everything seems good, they are starting to notice the strain of what their parents are going through. Jesse is at the age where he knows what is best for him and is not acting out at home, but does not want to spend any time there as he has found a good older friend that smokes weed and watches porn. Thinking that this is what grownups do, Jesse decides that this is the correct route for him to move onto in life. As it is noticed that he is never home on time anymore, his parents try to wrangle him back in, but he is hesitant to come back to his family life. Sam on the other hand is loving spending time with his family, and his life is an open book for whomever wants to read it. Having a fun story time with his brother every night via walkie-talkies, Sam has heard a story that is leaving him a little bit disturbed and he is thinking that the guests he is seeing in the house late at night are characters from the story, the Sandman. But someone is coming into the house at night and making sure that it is known. Seeing their kitchen turned upside down, Lacy urges Dan to call the police and file a report of what is happening. Although the cops do not believe it to be a big problem, since nothing is missing, the next night, all of the family photos have been removed from the living room. Knowing that this is something that their kids would never do, Dan and Lacy sit them down and try to pinpoint what is happening. Sam is too quiet when he is asked if he did it, or if it was someone he knows that is harassing the family. Sam tells them that he is not allowed to say and then the Barrett’s lives get turned upside down. With every member of the household doing things that they would not normally do, Lacy thinks that there is something much more sinister going on, and when researching what is happening on the internet, she finds that her family might be the victims of an alien attack. As far as alien movies go, this is not a bad one at all. One of my favorite things about good horror movies is not being able to see who is doing the dirty deeds until you absolutely have to. This movie keeps them in the shadows until you need to see them for the story, and for that, I applaud them. I like the multiple storylines that are given in this movie as well, a mother and father fighting over money and trust, a kid getting ready to move out on his own and has no need for his parents anymore and the innocent child of the house, that is so darn cute, you don’t want to see anything bad happen to him. With plenty of little scares, the biggest has to come from when the kids are found to have marks and bruising on their bodies and Social Services are threatening to remove them from the house. This could be scarier than the aliens coming and trying to abduct them for any parent on any given day. Stay Scared. Written by John Edward Betancourt THIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...A little while back, we briefly discussed the fact that the men of the good vessels Erebus and Terror were being tested like never before, and that eventually, circumstances would push them to their breaking point and ugly moments would come from crossing that threshold. But the men have faced some incredible odds since we first discussed that possibility, leaving all of us to wonder, what exactly does it take to truly break a man? What act prompts him to turn on his fellow compatriots and do horrible things? Well it just so happens that the moment to explore those questions has arrived at last on The Terror and ‘Horrible from Supper’ revealed that sometimes, it isn’t a grandiose act that finally pushes a man over the edge. But, before we dive too deeply into what exactly prompts people to snap, I do want to take a moment and discuss perhaps the only real beautiful moment we’ve seen on this series. Because this particular tale featured the moment when Captain Crozier and Captain Fitzjames abandoned their respective ships and seeing Crozier be wistful and appreciative of his time on Terror was a wonderful way for us to explore the captain’s sense of duty and nobility and well, it was a fine way to open up this story since things took a turn for the worse once the crew began their journey back toward civilization. Because one crew member in particular, transformed into something twisted before our very eyes, all due to the fact that Captain Croizer wasn’t quite forthcoming about the danger the men were ingesting. Because despite Dr. Goodsir’s warnings and evidence when it comes to the tins, Croizer demanded the men keep eating from them for the time being, at least until they could find game. But seeing Goodsir avoid eating from the tins, and keeping Lady Silence from doing so as well, got Hickey’s suspicions flowing. And an unfortunate disaster at the new base camp, wherein a crew member gave into the madness and was put down in a shouting match, only confirmed to Hickey what we already knew about the food. If anything, that was the last straw for Hickey, and knowing only pain and deceit from his leaders prompted him to decide it was time for a different way, especially when facing insurmountable odds for survival. Which means that Hickey decided to start working behind the scenes to build a coalition for mutiny, and part of his plan involved a practice run. So, while he and Lt. Irving and Mister Farr were out and about on a hunting run, Hickey saw a grand opportunity to see how easy it is to kill a man in cold blood. And he quietly dispatched Mister Farr, and when the Lieutenant returned, he handled him in the same brutal manner and just like that, Hickey has stepped into the darkness. Which, is a terrifying prospect to say the least because with no witnesses present, and likely a hell of a lie on Hickey’s part, fear will take hold, the Tuunbaq will be of concern and Hickey will use all of these elements to get others to join to his cause and this will likely tear the crews apart. Either way, this is another episode that completely and utterly took me off guard, simply because I really wasn’t expecting it to end in such darkness. Because Hickey snapping was ugly and raw and haunting, and how it plays out on screen was unsettling to say the least. But this is what I was waiting for, that moment when the crew would being to spiral downward into madness and mayhem and Hickey will apparently be the catalyst for this and with three episodes to go, I would imagine things are going to get extremely ugly as the darkness takes hold, so it’s best I brace myself for one wild ride toward the finish line. Until next time. Written by Scott Edwards One of the greatest fears for parents is having their children kidnapped or having them run away. Those fears exist because, we want our kids around us at all times, but also, if they are gone, we do not know if they are being taken care of. Not being able to be in our children’s lives could destroy a parent and adding the fear of the unknown to what is happening to them could drive them to madness. Wanting what is best for our children will always be the primary concern for a parent and if they are not able to provide that, I would hope that they can find someone that can. After killing his wife, Jeffrey is on the run with his two daughters Victoria and Lilly. Not wanting to lose them to anyone, he is trying to get away as quickly as possible to find a new home for them. When his car slides off of an icy road, the motherless family needs to find a place to hold up until Jeffrey can get his bearings back. Chancing upon what appears to be an abandoned cabin, Jeffrey and the girls have found a home for the time being, but there is someone else in the house that wants the girls more than he does. Being killed, Jeffrey has left his girls alone in the house with no chance of survival, but there is someone in the house that will take care of them and stay with them no matter what. Lucas, Jeffrey’s brother, has been exhausting his bank accounts trying to find his brother and two nieces for five years. As he has employed a couple of local men to search any areas that the police might have missed, he is hoping for some sort of resolution to what has happened. With his girlfriend Annabel at his side, his hopes are slim, but he will stop at nothing to find his only remaining family. When he receives a call from his crew, saying that they have found his nieces alive in a cabin, Lucas rushes to see them, but what he finds leaves him in awe. The girls act like wild animals around the hospital that they are put in. Without any human contact for many years, they have learned to fend for themselves and will not trust anyone. When Lucas approaches the girls, they seem to believe that he is their father, but he is not willing to take on that role yet and reminds them that he is their uncle instead. Having called out the name Mama, Annabel believes that they are calling her their mother, but what she does not know is that there was something else in the cabin that was keeping them safe after all this time. As the family comes together in a new house lent to them by their doctor, there seems to be someone that has followed the girls and is continuing to take care of them. When Lucas is thrown down the stairs by an unseen force, Annabel is left alone in the house with the girls and their keeper who wants to hurt anyone that gets in the way of the children’s safety. Don’t let the title fool you, this is a movie that is based around a mother's love for her children. Without this, there is no way that anyone would survive the onslaught of the woman who has kept the little girls alive for all this time in the woods. There is also a secondary story about what the doctor is looking for, as he is doing research about who Mama could be, if she really exists, and that leads to his destruction. Watching how Annabel grows in this movie is the best part as she never wanted to be a mother and was thrust into the situation of having two little girls looking up to her. Although the youngest, Lilly is not willing to let go of her past, she still finds a place in her heart for Annabel, but will never allow her to get too close, since her Mama is the only parent she needs. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards I was in need of a new horror movie and I stumbled across Crimson Peak to fill the void. Now, this is one that I wanted to see in the theaters, but I was not able to find anyone to go see it with, so I waited until I was able to find a smoking hot deal on the discs. I only knew a little bit about this movie from the trailers and seeing that Guillermo del Toro was the director, there was not much that could keep me from picking this up. Edith Cushing is an aspiring writer that is being held back from accomplishing her dream by one thing, she is a woman. Seeing how publishers react to hearing that she is the writer behind a strong ghost story, she is told to turn it into a love story, since that is what women are supposed to know more about. No longer taking this to heart, Edith edits her story and starts to transcribe it using a typewriter since her writing is very feminine. Little does she know that the man of her dreams will come knocking at her father’s door to try and get some respect of his own. Thomas Sharpe is trying to design a new digging machine that will be able to bring clay to the surface faster than it ever has happened before and add this clay into the mix for new brick construction. Although Carter Cushing is intrigued by the idea, he will not allow his money to be a part of this, especially since Thomas has not appeared to have worked a hard day in his life. Sending Sharpe on his way, he sees that his daughter has taken a fancy to the man and will do everything in his power to keep her away, but Sharpe is able to woo Edith, especially when it comes to complimenting her writing style. Trying to pay off Thomas and his sister Lucille to go back home, Carter writes a check that should help them develop the machine that they are looking to build, but before the night is out, Carter is bludgeoned to death. Now with no obstacles to stop their love, Edith and Thomas get married and move back in to his old family home at Allerdale Hall that sits atop a red clay mine. Although the house is in disarray, Edith makes the most of her time with her husband and his sister, but strange shapes start moving through the halls. With her love for ghost stories, Edith wants to know if there has been any murders in the house that could cause it to be haunted, but Thomas is not willing to comment on it either way. The more time Edith stays in the house, the ghostly presence of somebody not in this realm becomes stronger and she must find out what she can do to help them before Thomas and Lucille reveal their deep dark their deep dark secret. While it might not be a horror movie for every fan to go on raving about, it covers it basics and I enjoyed it. Without knowing what the true need for Edith is for the Sharpe’s, you get to see what happens in the house when the lights go out. I liked the drive that Thomas continued to show for his digging machine, especially after he was able to get it constructed and Lucille’s need for money was just fantastic. As Edith started to understand what her new family wanted from her, it is great to see the way that she continued to push back and with the secrecy around the house, how she was able to find out a few small clues to what is really happening there. I must admit that when the ground turned blood red around the house, from the clay, I truly understood why this old house was called Crimson Peak and why Edith was warned to stay away from it when she was a child. Stay Scared. Written by John Edward Betancourt THIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...Over the course of its first five episodes, The Terror has done a phenomenal job of balancing every single element of the story it is working to tell. For we’ve seen a healthy mix of outright horror when Tuunbaq comes calling, and we’ve also watched the men of the Erebus and the Terror walk the fine line between madness and sanity since they keep gently swaying back and forth between the two. But I think we all knew it was only a matter of time before the horrors of man were put on full display in this tale and it just so happens that the next episode of this series allowed for the madness to be finally be unleashed in stunning fashion. Which is fascinating of course since ‘A Mercy’ started off in a manner that made it seem the story was going in a different direction. In fact, it seemed as though it was heading into positive territory for a change. Because this one opened up with a bold decision from Captain Fitzjames, wherein he ordered the crews of the two ships to begin preparations to abandon ship and prepare supplies for the long walk out of the arctic and on the advice of Mister Blanky, Fitzjames also ordered up a celebration for the men. Which meant that preparations were underway for a grand carnival, one timed perfectly to coincide with the first sunrise of the year. All of those decisions treated us to some supremely lighthearted moments in this tale as we happily watched the men work to build the stage for the carnival and find joy in assembling costumes and a menu for this grandiose affair. Plus, we even saw Captain Crozier finally on the mend as well, since he decided he should attend this party and mingle amongst the men, and well, it was quite off putting to see the show go into more joyful territory and really, that was all part of a plan to deceive us and make us comfortable, if only for a moment. Because a chilling discovery when it comes to the canned food, in that, lead was present within each meal and slowly poisoning the crew, led to an outright horrific finale for this episode. For not only did Dr. Stanley ignore what Goodsir told him, he helped the party in question end in disaster. For when Captain Crozier arrived to see his crew acting as drunken fools, the kind who were stumbling about and even feeding corpses, he finally reassumed command and ended the party, before announcing that the time had come to abandon the two ships and get back to civilization. But seeing the men in rough shape is not the disaster in question. No, instead what made this night so horrifying was that Dr. Stanley snapped in essence, either at the news that they had all consumed lead or because he was under the influence of its poisoning, and he tried to murder every last man by sealing off the tents and setting himself and everything within them ablaze and well, more men died on this night and while the sunrise did indeed arrive without an ounce of fanfare, the quick reappearance of the dark served as a perfect end to this harrowing tale. If anything, I was ill prepared for how dark this episode turned out to be. Because the men are truly on edge and are trying desperately to hold on and even then, the ties that bind their sanity are strained to the limit at this point. Because seeing them still care for a dead comrade and try and feed him is unsettling to say the least, as were Dr. Stanley’s actions in this tale, and if his madness here was related to the food, then things are only going to get worse in the days to come. Which honestly leaves me nervous, because if the show is willing to show us men burning to death, it’s willing to show us anything, and that’s a terrifying realization to come to as the men prepare to enter a vast and icy wasteland. Until next time. Written by Scott Edwards The biggest concern most young couples have after their wedding is what they will do on their honeymoon that will make it the most memorable event in their lives. Everyone comes up with different ideas of what would be best for them, as everyone has a different opinion of what would be heavenly. I would hope that most of the time, it is one of the greatest escapes from daily life couples have, since when it is over, they have to go back to work and worry about keeping their relationship strong. When going away from everyone that was important in your life, with the person that is now the most important one in your life, it should be the time of your life, no matter where it is, or what you do. Samantha and Zach are on the last day of their honeymoon in the Dominican Republic. Being their most memorable time together, they only want the party to last, but when leaving a local bar, they are not able to find their way back to their hotel. A kind taxi driver picks the young couple up and offers to take them to a great party that is off of the beaten path. Although the couple wants to get back and sleep in their room, they allow the nice man to show them how parties really are in the Dominican Republic. Feeling out of place in the secluded venue, the two are happy with doing shots and dancing with each other, but when they both pass out, something sinister happens that neither of them can recall. Waking up in their hotel room the next morning, they are ready to fly back home and start their lives together. As Samantha is still going to school, she is going over her finals schedule and trying to plan out her next semester’s class list. Feeling under the weather, she decides to take a pregnancy test, and it comes out positive. Needing to tell their families as soon as possible, the couple is ready to welcome their honeymoon baby into their lives, but there is something strange happening around their home. First with their ultrasound picture going missing, they come home and find that things have been rearranged in their living room. The police are not able to help with the situation since there is nothing major missing, but Samantha has the strangest feeling that something is not right, with the house and with her pregnancy. Not being able to shake the morning sickness at all, she is starting to become more removed from the relationship and wanting to be away from people altogether. Trying to find a reason for this, Zach starts talking with his family about what is happening, but they are not able to see this effect on her. Going about their normal lives, the couple attends Zach’s niece's Holy Communion at the church where they were married, but the priest who married them cannot seem to speak around them. As the precession continues, the priest has to stop and stares at Samantha and then suffers a stroke. Samantha does not remember one bit of what has happened and just wants rest, but Zach is not done looking for answers as he visits the priest in the hospital and finds out that the symbols he has seen in his honeymoon video, involve an ancient sect that worship the devil. Being a first person camera movie, I was happy to see that it was opened up with surveillance camera footage as well. I really have a hard time with movies that just stick with the one camera, unless it is a good story, which this one has. Although you get to see bits and pieces of what has happened before the characters do, you still know as much as they do, nothing. I got lost in Samantha’s story, as I wanted to know more about her past that never really seems to be explained, but maybe she does not know as well. Although not everything gets explained the way you may want it to be, you are left to solve the puzzle yourself which some people do not like. I cannot give this movie a bad mark, since their advertising campaign was epic, the demon baby walking down the street in New York, YES! This would be a movie that I would love to see a follow up to, since you know what the baby is, but have no idea what really follows. Stay Scared. Written by John Edward Betancourt THIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...If has often been said, that idle hands are the Devil’s workplace and there’s definitely some merit to those words, just not in a manner we traditionally think. Because laziness simply engenders laziness and potentially, a nap. If anything, what gives that phrase genuine weight goes far deeper than simply sitting on the couch, scrolling on our phones, it’s really all about having a higher purpose and direction in our lives. For when we feel stuck or hopeless, we tend to lash out and cause trouble in unique ways and hurt others with our words, and all of this is on my mind today, due to the fact that the next episode of The Terror zeroed in on how the human mind responds to direction and hope, or a lack thereof. Because when we catch up with the crews of the Erebus and Terror in ‘First Shot a Winner, Lads’, we are privy to a tale of two worlds, one that involves the two elements I just made mention of, and this particular dynamic was fascinating to see. Because the men on Erebus are functional and with purpose since Captain Fitzjames is finding ways to focus their minds in the midst of this brutal winter, and their spirits seem to be up because of it, whereas… things are simply a disaster aboard Terror. For everyone on that vessel is listing, much like the boat, and their days are filled with routine and sour thoughts and it’s getting so bad that the dead are being treated as though they’re everyday people and well, some of this definitely stems from the vessel’s leader. For when we see Captain Crozier in this tale, it’s obvious now that the drink has taken hold of him, and this newfound hobby, has left him unfit to command and distant from his senior officers and oddly enough, it’s also emboldened him in ways we never thought possible. Because Francis eventually demands a parlay with Lady Silence, wherein we come to learn that the crew is being hunted by a mystical being called the Tuunbaq, and it is a spirt that can assume the form of whatever animal it wants and it would seem that it’s in a mood to feed because it’s master, Lady’s father, is no longer around to keep it in check. But before we could dive any deeper on the Tunnbaq, Captain Fitzjames’ arrival and the return of the Tuunbaq led to one incredible finale. Because once again, the monster came to feed and it was quite successful in its endeavor to enjoy a warm meal in the freezing depths of winter, until Mister Blankey stepped in. For he made the beast focus upon him and only him and by becoming the bait, and calling out the right kind of signals, he was able to make the impossible happen and get the men to wound this monster and scare it off into the snow, and while it was nice to see the crew fight back, the end of this battle was quite costly. Because more men were lost to the Tuunbaq’s hunger, and Blankey lost a leg while luring the beast into harm’s way and to top it all off, Lady Silence escaped as well. But for now, at least, there is peace aboard the Terror and a little shred of hope for its captain since Francis made the bold decision to quit the drink. If anything, what impressed me about this particular episode, was its ability to balance horror and story perfectly, and in subtle fashion no less. Well, subtle at least when it comes to how the men are doing aboard the Terror, since we didn’t need an entire episode to discover that what’s left of that crew there, is falling to pieces. But truly, it was the scares that shined in this tale since the arrival of the Tuunbaq made for one tense sequence of events, the kind that actually left me cheering when the men finally hurt the creature that has been hurting them for months and well, while this episode was more transitional in nature since not much else happened outside of that snapshot of the crew’s mental health and a battle royale with the Tuunbaq, at least we got to learn the monster’s name and see Francis snap out of his reverie and everything here was handled in fascinating fashion at least, and I am definitely ready to see what comes next now that man and monster have traded blows. Until next time. Written by Scott Edwards I know we have all thought about where we would like to be when the spit hits the fan and the dead start coming after us. I still like my idea of making it up to a cabin in the mountains and living off of the land until it blows over, but I know that there will be limited opportunity to get up there and I might get trapped in the city. Finding a good building that has limited doors and windows on the main level would be key, or at least blocking off the stairs and turning off the elevator so the zombies cannot get up to whatever floor you are on. Get a plan together and talk it out with whomever you want to spend your apocalypse days with so you are on the same page, since you never know when it will start. William is working his final shift at the office and he cannot wait to be on his way when the urge to go to the bathroom hits him. Being a janitor in the building, he has access to all of the bathrooms and if he gets caught, he can just say he was performing maintenance, so he sneaks into the women’s room. Before he knows it, two women that are competing in the charity auction at the Christmas party come in and start complaining about the other women around the office, especially Heather, their overweight co-worker. Listening and giggling along, William then sees something magical start to happen outside of the stall, the two woman start to make out. While enjoying the show, William starts to get a little idea of his own and tries to video the action, but something very disturbing happen next. Taking a bite out of her friend, both girls have been infected with a zombie virus of some sort and now they are both hungry for whomever they can find. Thinking he is safe in the stall, one of the women crawls under the door and tries to chomp on him, but William is too fast and able to make it over the stall wall into an adjoining one and tries to fortify himself inside. Finding an old sign, William puts his knowledge to work and screws it over the opening at the bottom of the door to keep himself safe, but what he does not know is that the entire party has been infected and all have to go to the bathroom. With more zombies coming in, William has no idea how he will be able to escape, especially since he had a plan to rob the company blind on his last day. Thinking he is all alone in the bathroom filled with zombies, William starts to hear crying from the adjoining stall. Thinking it is the zombie he pinned to the door with a screwdriver, he begs for her to stop, but he finds out that there is someone else that is alive trapped with him in the stalls. Evie is on the other side of the stalls and is having a hard time with what is happening around her. When the two start talking, William finds out more about himself than he ever wanted to admit. Dealing with problems that he has not dealt with in years, Evie is able to get him to open up about his relationship with his mother and what he was doing during his final shift. With somebody else to look after now, William puts on his hero pants and tries to get help for the two squatters, but when all of his plans start to fall short he is not sure if he will be able to save them both, much less himself with all of the money collected for charity. Now don’t get me wrong, there are some deep conversations that happen in this movie over the stall walls, but it is a zombie flick that has plenty of hilarity. I mean when the zombie apocalypse happens, would you like to be trapped in the bathroom with your trousers down, I think not. The few zombie kills you get to witness are classic, but a drug induced zombie dance off still has me laughing since there is no way it could ever happen. I really enjoyed the interactions between the two in the bathroom, especially since they don’t really know each other and seeing William have to open up about his past is just a fantastic piece to the story that makes you feel for him, even though he was doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. Blood, limbs and brains, what else could you need from a zombie film, especially when you are stuck in the bathroom, nothing. Stay Scared. |
