Written by Scott Edwards The biggest concern most young couples have after their wedding is what they will do on their honeymoon that will make it the most memorable event in their lives. Everyone comes up with different ideas of what would be best for them, as everyone has a different opinion of what would be heavenly. I would hope that most of the time, it is one of the greatest escapes from daily life couples have, since when it is over, they have to go back to work and worry about keeping their relationship strong. When going away from everyone that was important in your life, with the person that is now the most important one in your life, it should be the time of your life, no matter where it is, or what you do. Samantha and Zach are on the last day of their honeymoon in the Dominican Republic. Being their most memorable time together, they only want the party to last, but when leaving a local bar, they are not able to find their way back to their hotel. A kind taxi driver picks the young couple up and offers to take them to a great party that is off of the beaten path. Although the couple wants to get back and sleep in their room, they allow the nice man to show them how parties really are in the Dominican Republic. Feeling out of place in the secluded venue, the two are happy with doing shots and dancing with each other, but when they both pass out, something sinister happens that neither of them can recall. Waking up in their hotel room the next morning, they are ready to fly back home and start their lives together. As Samantha is still going to school, she is going over her finals schedule and trying to plan out her next semester’s class list. Feeling under the weather, she decides to take a pregnancy test, and it comes out positive. Needing to tell their families as soon as possible, the couple is ready to welcome their honeymoon baby into their lives, but there is something strange happening around their home. First with their ultrasound picture going missing, they come home and find that things have been rearranged in their living room. The police are not able to help with the situation since there is nothing major missing, but Samantha has the strangest feeling that something is not right, with the house and with her pregnancy. Not being able to shake the morning sickness at all, she is starting to become more removed from the relationship and wanting to be away from people altogether. Trying to find a reason for this, Zach starts talking with his family about what is happening, but they are not able to see this effect on her. Going about their normal lives, the couple attends Zach’s niece's Holy Communion at the church where they were married, but the priest who married them cannot seem to speak around them. As the precession continues, the priest has to stop and stares at Samantha and then suffers a stroke. Samantha does not remember one bit of what has happened and just wants rest, but Zach is not done looking for answers as he visits the priest in the hospital and finds out that the symbols he has seen in his honeymoon video, involve an ancient sect that worship the devil. Being a first person camera movie, I was happy to see that it was opened up with surveillance camera footage as well. I really have a hard time with movies that just stick with the one camera, unless it is a good story, which this one has. Although you get to see bits and pieces of what has happened before the characters do, you still know as much as they do, nothing. I got lost in Samantha’s story, as I wanted to know more about her past that never really seems to be explained, but maybe she does not know as well. Although not everything gets explained the way you may want it to be, you are left to solve the puzzle yourself which some people do not like. I cannot give this movie a bad mark, since their advertising campaign was epic, the demon baby walking down the street in New York, YES! This would be a movie that I would love to see a follow up to, since you know what the baby is, but have no idea what really follows. Stay Scared.
