Written by Scott Edwards Everyone wants to do something special with their friends or loved ones. That could entail taking them to a show that they have always wanted to see, entertaining at a dinner theater, or even taking an evening off from the world cuddled up in front of the fire. There is always something that makes people forget what is happening in the world that is making their lives miserable, finding and acting on it is what can make a regular night turn extraordinary. Joe and his friends are looking for a night out of the ordinary. Wanting to make it something memorable, they have heard of a bar hidden out in the reeds that is difficult to get to, but worth the adventure. When their first boat charter falls through, they are forced to look for another one to get to their destination. Finding another boat for the night, the group jumps at the plan, but there is something strange surrounding the vessel as a group of kids have claimed it for their own. Getting the kids to shove off, the group is on their way with an old map in hand. After their first couple of hours pass by, they start to question if this is a good idea or not. While holding up and discussing their next move, they spot someone hiding in the reeds that might be able to help them. Chasing down what they assume to be kids, Mel comes back to the boat a different man, no longer fun loving on the voyage, but a very bitter individual. As the weather takes a turn for the worse, Joe tells everyone to get below deck, but when hearing strange sounds around the boat, he tries to investigate but runs into a metal cage under the water that has pierced the hull of the boat, along with the sternum of Mel. Wanting to free the boat, along with save his friend, Joe heads through the waters ahead to locate a light he has seen in the distance. Leaving Laura and Nick in charge of what happens on the boat, the two take charge and try to find a way to safety. After Nick divulges that he does not know how to swim, he is knocked in the water and comes across the watery grave that has held up their adventure. Releasing a girl’s dead body from her iron cage, the group starts to hear strange sounds coming from the reeds that are headed right for the boat. As everyone tries to hide below deck, they hear the footsteps above them, along with gun shots. When trying to investigate, they find nothing on the boat and know they have to move on, but everyone is afraid of what they might find next as their trip has turned into a nightmare. What better way to describe this movie by calling it a twisted mind mystery horror movie. I think that sums it up perfectly as you are put in the middle of a story that has you fall in love with a couple of the characters and watch as they fight to protect each other by sacrificing their own safety. Then you have a group of kids running around outside of the boat that may seem to be tormenting the group, but are trying to flag them down for help, but are they really there? I like how the story played out in this movie and I did fall in love with the Laura character as she was able to keep it together longer than everyone else. Sometimes all you need is the ability to listen, a machete and/or a shotgun to keep your wits about you. Stay Scared.
