‘The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs’ Snags Season 4 Renewal on Shudder

It is an interesting time in popular culture. Because this is an era where studios and networks are giving new life or extended life to movies and shows that we truly thought had seen their end ages ago. Which is a move that is being met with a mixed reception at times. Because for every proper continuation there are more waiting in the wings that appear to be nothing more than a cash grab. But the true benefit of this era, is that it is finally giving respect to the stories and icons that were taken off the airwaves and out of the theaters before truly completing their journey or work, and that’s why we celebrate The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs.

For this Shudder original series did what needed to be done for the iconic Joe Bob Briggs and give him the extra seasons that he outright deserved when he was hosting Monstervision, and his latest iteration of this style of show is providing fans with such incredible insight and engrossing entertainment, that Shudder has come to realize that the show must go on. Which is why this magnificent series was rewarded with a season 4 renewal today and here is what Shudder and Joe Bob Briggs had to say about this exciting news.

Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural, announced that it has renewed its hit original series The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs for a fourth season to air in 2022 and additional specials to be announced that will premiere later this year. Earlier this month the show concluded its third and strongest season to date, with new episodes trending in the Top 10 nationally on Twitter every Friday night. 

“I'm extremely excited to do another season of The Last Drive-In, especially since the family we've built up around the show keeps growing. In all my years of writing and performing, I've never felt so close to an audience. It's like having friends in every town who really mean it when they say, ‘Stop by’!,” said Joe Bob Briggs.

“The Last Drive-In is unlike any other show on TV or streaming, where fans watch together for five hours every Friday night to see what movies Joe Bob Briggs will be showing and hear what he, Darcy and their special guests will have to say about them. We’re thrilled to bring The Last Drive-In back for another season and can’t wait to see what movies and guests Joe Bob will come up with next,” said Shudder General Manager Craig Engler.

On The Last Drive-In, Briggs, the world’s foremost drive-in movie critic hosts eclectic horror movie double features, talking about their merits, histories and significance to genre cinema. The recently concluded third season featured new, in-depth interviews with film icons Bruce Campbell, Jeffrey Combs, Eli Roth and Roger Corman, among others. Shudder and Briggs first teamed up in July 2018, for the 24-hour marathon intended to be Briggs’ final farewell to televised movie hosting. After the special turned out to be an unprecedented hit, Shudder brought The Last Drive-In back as a weekly series and for multiple holiday specials.

The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs is produced by Matt Manjourides and Justin Martell and directed by Austin Jennings.

If anything, this really is quite the wonderful announcement for certain. Because this series really is a horror fan’s dream come true and it will be quite the treat to continue to settle in on Friday nights with Joe Bob and Darcy and the Mutant Fam, to watch some amazing horror flicks and hear from legends of the industry, when The Last Drive-In with Job Bob Briggs returns to the digital airwaves for its well-deserved season 4.
