'Stan Against Evil' Recap: 'Girls' Night'

Getting ready for an uneventful night in Willard’s Mill, Evie and Denise are ready for their favorite show to come on. With it being the final episode of The Finance, they are both upset that the show is coming to an end. But when Denise leaves to get some popcorn, The Finance starts to point out that Evie could be the winner of the show, if she bothered to pretty herself up a little bit. Ordering Denise to go and get some make-up from a living person, Evie finds herself unknowingly under the spell of a witch from Willard’s Mill’s illustrious past.

Finding his way to the bar while the girls watch other people live their lives, Stan is approached by a stranger who is obsessed with making wagers. Not being able to remove a dollar from under a bottle without knocking it over and having a drink in silence, Stan discovers that this is not a normal man, but another victim of Constable Eccles. Trying to pick the man’s brain for a couple of tips about how he can use the demon’s eyes to travel back in time to save his wife, the stranger will not break and wants to play one final game with Stan to finally put the former sheriff six feet under.

Taking him back in time to the day that he found out he wanted to be sheriff, Stan is forced to relive the account of kicking a dying man while he was down. Questioning the former sheriff’s motives of not wanting to become a doctor to save the man’s life instead, the stranger is not happy with the answer and summons a creature from the deep to take Stan down. Being able to fend off the creature, Stan is given yet another wager that there will be a dead person in his home when he returns. With the fear of something happening to the women in his life, Stan takes the wager and is shocked to see what he arrives home to.

After getting all gussied up for The Finance, Evie is excited to see that she has gotten a gift from the host as well, a nice shiny dagger. With the promise of being together after she rids the world of Denise, Evie now sees the only thing standing between her and true happiness. Watching as Evie is breaking down in the other room, Denise gets a friendly visit from Deputy Leon who does not want to be alone either as the finale plays out. Getting chased around the house by a love obsessed Evie, Denise and Leon are happy to see that Stan has arrived home and he makes the stranger one last wager for the lives of his loved ones.

What can be said about this season, as the episodes are just getting better and better as it continues to play out. Stan is back to trying to figure out how he can utilize the eyes of the demon to travel back in time to save his wife and how this mysterious Gerard Duquette character can help make that happen. Evie is having a hard time not being in a relationship and the friendly words from The Finance are just want she needs to get her life back in order. Denise is just trying to have a good night with her friend who seems to be losing her mind while watching the show and comes up with a great rap song and Leon is tired of being alone as well. I must admit that the reason to watch this episode is basically for The Shining homage, and it was great to see Jeffrey Combs on the screen again, because his cameo is something that the term ‘Legend’ is built on. Stay Scared.
