"Supernatural" Recap: "Baby"

Last night our story was told in a different way. Instead of following around the beloved characters, we got to see the show through the car that has come to mean so much. Baby has become as much of a character as the rest of them. With carved initials, a toy soldier stuck in the ashtray in the back, and so with how many times she has been rebuilt, Baby is as much Winchester as anyone. Her perspective is just a bit limited, which works for what's going on.

A supposed case has the boys heading out of town. One of them might get lucky along the way (go Sammy!), and there's even a few weird instances. Sam has a dream, it's his Father driving the Impala, but not the one they grew up with. He's younger, and giving a warning. John tells Sam that he and Dean need to defeat the darkness. That God helps those who help themselves. Now, John was also Michael's vessel, once upon a time. When Sam tells Dean about the dream a few other things get spilled along the way. Like Sam having been infected back at the hospital. About how he had prayed for help, and how he cured whatever sickness the darkness had caused.

The case takes a few odd turns. They're searching for something that drinks blood and eats hearts. A werewolf/vampire hybrid? No such thing exists....Castiel does some research and finds that the creature is like a ghoul. They need a copper coin in its mouth before decapitating it. Should be easy? When they find the Alpha of the group though, things go wrong. Dean is kidnapped by the woman they were there to help solve the murder for (her husband). She's one of the creatures. The Alpha is the deputy sheriff. And it's not going well.

Dean is nearly killed by the creatures, but is lucky enough to find a penny and kill the alpha. This frees the others and turns them normal, which is good since Sam was tricked and sent into a trap. The two are able to make it back into the car, and head "home". But really, Baby is home. Covered in blood, and glass, and missing the rear window, she's going to need some fixing up....just like our boys.
