Nerds That Geek Movie Review: ‘The Horror Show’

​Having a guilty conscience is something that everyone has to fight, especially when they have done nothing wrong. Doing the right thing yet causing someone else pain in some sort of way always leaves us wishing it could have been done another way. But when protecting yourself or the safety of others, there is always something that needs to be done, no matter the outcome for the person doing the wrong thing.

Detective Lucas McCarthy is challenged with the remorse of sending a fellow man to his death. Although Lucas has captured Max Jenke, a murderer who has no remorse in his acts, Lucas is starting to have dreams of the madman coming after him. Without knowing what this means, Lucas is put on leave until the blood crazed Jenke is put to death in the electric chair.

Watching as his arch nemeses is electrocuted, Jenke refuses to go down without a fight and with the last breath in his body, threatens the Detective and his family. Thinking little of the act, Lucas returns home, a new man and ready to start work once again since he has been able to see Jenke die in front of his very eyes. Not knowing that there could be life after death, Lucas enjoys his quiet time with his family and tries to return to his normal day to day life style.

But Jenke has not yet left the earth, and is now finding a safe haven in Lucas’ life, along with his family’s life. As strange sounds start coming from the furnace in the basement, Jenke is back and looking to take revenge on the man that helped take his life. Toying with Lucas every night in his dreams, along with visions during the day, Jenke knows that killing the detective will not fulfill his goal of punishment and turns to Lucas’ family. Now Lucas will have to find a way to defend himself and his family, but how will he be able to kill someone that is already dead?

A fun movie to say the least as it has all of the flare of an 80s horror movie. Without letting the bad guy be killed off at any cost, this is one of the golden storylines that the era brought forth. I fell in love with how the story persisted, since a touch of Nightmare on Elm Street came into play, but the movie really didn’t steal anything from that iconic horror film outside of some nasty dream sequences. With a little bit of gore, splatter and a daughter that steals the show, it is a good movie to watch to just get away from the norm. Stay Scared.
