Nerds That Geek Movie Review: ‘Grave Encounters 2’

Myths and legends have to have some sort of truth behind them. With some of the things that they encompass, it would be hard to imagine someone trying to make it up. The same goes for urban legends about haunted houses, you have to believe that there is something in the house that scared the giblets out of somebody at some point, but would you like to be the one to prove the legend wrong? Looking for the truth behind the stories that you have heard about since you have been a child, or looking to find out what actually happened in your new neighborhood could make you feel better, but if you find out the truth about what really happened, will you be disappointed when it is not what you expected?

Alex Wright is a film student and a lover of everything horror. He has even taken to making up vlogs about the movies he watches since he is starting to understand what is behind making a good movie. But there is one film that he cannot stand, Grave Encounters. With the poor camera work, lack of emotions from the actors and a terrible ending, Alex makes sure that the world hears his thoughts and hopefully people turn away from watching this movie. But when reading the responses on his site, Alex gets some unseen footage from the movie and wants to confront the person who sent it.

Digging into the history of the movie, Alex finds that everyone associated with it has gone missing or died in a mysterious way. After calling out to his followers, Alex finds that there is one survivor living up in Washington, but when he goes to visit Sean Rogerson, a.k.a. Lance Preston from the first film, he finds that the man is still missing, and nobody knows where he is. Wanting to prove one way or another that the movie is real and not something that was made up to scare people, Alex does some more digging and after getting some messages from an internet account named DeathAwaits666, he is able to get an interview inside of the building that the movie was shot in.

Even though he does not have permission to visit the building, Alex takes his video crew with him to go and make the best horror movie they have ever seen. Needing to find out the secret behind what actually happened in the building ten years ago, Alex follows the same script as the group that was lost in the building before him. Not fearing the ghosts, spirits or demons that infest the halls, the group try capture something, but it takes the arrival of a rent-a-cop to make the building come to life. As the building only takes people that are on their own, Alex refuses to let his fiends out of his sight, but the building has a mind of its own and will stop at nothing to get its movie made, along with the final cut.

A pretty good follow up to the original that takes you a little bit further down the rabbit hole in seeing what the old head doctor of the hospital was really up to. I was happy to see they hit another portion of the hospital and discovered the kid’s area and had a little ghost kid flying through the halls at them. Without knowing who or what is really occupying the old building, it seems like a place that nobody should ever try to enter, but still with the success of the first movie, everyone is trying to find out where it really is and get a chance to see what happens in it firsthand. As I have said in the past, not a huge fan of the first person shooter movies, since you never really get to see enough of what is attacking your characters, but in this movie, you might want them to pull away, just a bit sooner. With plenty of things that go bump in the night, this is a place that I am pretty sure I would not want to enter, especially with all of the asbestos inside the building. Stay Scared.
