Written by Scott Edwards You can think what you like about investigative reporters these days, as this has really become a dying art with how social media has changed the world. As everyone wants to get to the bottom of the story before it is actually told, important facts can and are left out as tweets surrounding the situation start to surface. I will not say that this is a bad thing, but I will say that it takes away from what the reporter is trying to tell you. With only a certain amount of characters to get their points across before someone else breaks the story, plenty is left in the shadows as they are always in a race against time to get their story to the public first. While at home and watching the world news, Hannah has found something that has really caught her attention. A rash of vampire like attacks have taken place in Paris and there seems to be a cult connection behind it. Packing up her bags, Hannah arrives in the city of lights and is able to room up with one of her friends, Emmy, who is as excited about the story as she is. With promise of plenty of internet publicity when they get everything in order, this cult will be brought out for the world to see firsthand. Getting their friend Nate to come out to film and utilizing their friend Xavier for his knowledge of contacts and money, the group is ready for an adventure into the shadows that not many people would take. Meeting with a cryptic contact about a thumb drive that has videos and links about the cult activity, Xavier is able to get the price down to what the crew is able to pay, but little does he, or anyone else know that they are being watched through the shadows. As the group is able to get into the drive and find out a couple of sites that are utilized by the cult, they see a female reporter get sucked dry by what appears to be a vampire. As the plot thickens, Hannah finds another video that shows a missing woman who has been changed into a creature of the night and wants to find her. Believing that the footage was shot was from Transylvania, Hannah uses her charm on new friend Christian to pull some strings and arrange for the group to make the trip. Knowing that the secret of the cult can be revealed by this new subject, Hannah is looking for the truth and the fame that will come with it. But as the group gets closer to their final answers, they are picked off one by one by something that does not seem to be of this world, at least not something that everyone believes in… Vampires. I will admit that this is not a vampire movie that will be everyone’s cup of tea, or wine, or whatever you like to drink, it is a little different. The variations come about in the pacing of the movie and the different aspects of what the group is wanting to find. I did like how they gave the nod to Vlad Tepes and went down the list of vampires from history, things I’ve poured over in my spare time. The one thing that I did not understand is that when the group was finally getting the information and footage that they wanted, nothing was done with it, not even a tweet of things to come, much less showing the frightening footage that their cult was putting online. With plenty of blood, two hungry vampires, a cult dying to be left in the shadows and a reporting crew looking to uncover the truth, it’s a pretty good ride overall. When people start to stumble on secrets that are never supposed to see the light of day, there might be a good reason for it. Stay Scared.
