Over the course of the past few weeks, we’ve talked at length about how the third and final season of Motherland: Fort Salem on Freeform has been quite bold in nature. After all, it’s a huge deal that our heroes are on the run and on the defensive, since that isn’t something, you normally see in the buildup to the finale of a story of this sort. Not to mention, the show continues to world build and introduce us to amazing new concepts and characters, such as the Marshals and that too… is oft reserved for earlier seasons instead of the end. But this show is fully aware of the fact that now is the time to go big and go for it as the show comes to a close, and it is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to its desire to just blow our minds away with big moments before the end of the story arrives. For last night’s episode once again featured some stunning surprises and incredible twists and turns… one of which involved, the heroes losing once again. Because despite splitting up and figuring out new ways to evade the Marshals in ‘Oh Elayne…’ our heroes succumbed to the relentless nature of these mysterious law men. In part because of their own doing. Because while Scylla and Nicta were on the run and in hiding, they continued to battle over what was the right course of action in evading the Marshals and what moves they should take part in next to continue the good fight against evil. And sadly, those arguments exploded into physical violence, since neither side could find common ground. The kind that garnered the attention of the Marshals, putting those two in an awkward place. One where they joined the remnant of the Bellweather Unit in custody, after they too had quite the interesting journey through the Cession. For they went looking for Khalida after she was separated from the group in the initial scuffle and upon their arrival at a seedy country western barn up north… they managed to reunite with the newly reformed General Sarah Alder and her strange new powers, and they came to learn that the first song is imperative to the future of witchkind. Which were all important plot points that will undoubtedly be pertinent as season three continues. But alas, the arrival of the Marshals put any further exploration on such matters on hold, since they arrested everyone post haste and trapped the entire group in a magical house from which there appears to be no escape. But while those two storylines alone would have been enough to carry this episode, there was still one more big moment waiting in the wings for us. For while all of that was going on, General Bellweather and the Witch Army filled President Wade in, regarding what they learned about her treasonous vice president. Prompting POTUS to move up the timetable on announcing her desire to shut down all the hate that the nation was sending witchkind’s way and well… that ended in stunning disaster. For the Camarilla infiltrated the White House under the guise of a camera crew and set up a powerful mystical bomb. One that killed M and the President of the United States, a move that will undoubtedly bring forth utter chaos. Because of course, witches will be blamed for this somehow, someway, and the disdain and fear that will come out of this disaster will be frightening to say the least. If anything, this was just a brilliant and bold tale. One that truly took the story to new heights and raised the stakes like never before. Because it really seems as though our heroes are stuck in a no-win scenario and heaven only knows if the witch army will recover from an act that will freeze their efforts completely, and well… that definitely sets the stage for an epic story next week and it is outright safe to say that the wait for next week’s episode is going to be utter torture. Because this was just an epic story through and through and we are all now dying to know, what comes next for our brave heroes and a nation on the brink of disaster. Until next time.
