Written by ScottyTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...One of the things that I am awful about doing when attending the Mile High Horror Film Festival is taking advantage of what they are bringing, THE FILMS!!! As a lover of the horror genre, I have to sit back and ask myself why it has taken me so long to understand that these are the festivals that feature the first screenings of movies that will be invading theaters later on in the year. To heck with it! I am going this year not only to see the stars and mingle with other fans of horror movies, I am going to watch a movie. So, with this new attitude, I have decided to watch a movie at Mile High Horror Film Festival on my first day and I was far from disappointed. I caught the second screening of Even Lambs Have Teeth and this movie made me very giddy and let me tell you why. With all of the movies I catch on Netflix or On Demand, I always believe there is something missing, a strong female lead, and this movie has two of them that are ready to kick ass and take names while doing it. Sloane and her uptight friend Katie are looking for a way to fulfill their dreams of heading off to New York City and do their favorite thing in the world, go shopping. Finding a job at an organic farm not too far from Katie’s uncle’s home, they will be able to work for a month and then have enough money to hit the Big Apple with a vengeance. Although Katie is a little bit uptight about almost everything, she is starting to let Sloane get inside of her head and when the situation arises to let loose, she might as well go with the flow. After getting a ride to the bus station from Katie’s Uncle Jason, he tells his niece that she will have to call or text him every day so he knows everything is all right. The two come up with a plan for a code word to be used every day and being a suspended FBI agent, he will know if something is wrong. Even though the girls are skeptical about this plan, they will play along since there is nothing that can go wrong when they are working at the farm. Saying goodbye, the girls find their way into the local coffee shop and start talking to some fine country boys, Jed and Lucas who fill out their jeans entirely too well. Being offered a ride up to their job by the boys, the girls cannot deny the offer and are given the ride of their lives. Being drugged at the boys' house by their mother, the girls wake up chained in storage containers with all of the amenities that they need to survive. But there is something more sinister going on than they could have ever expected. As Sloane and Katie start receiving daily visitors, the two have been thrust into a redneck sex traffic ring and need to find a way out. While talking to the leader of the group, Boris, the girls find out that they are in it for the long haul and have little chance of escaping. But Katie still has her safe word to use with her uncle and when being asked about her text messages and how to respond, the gives the directions that should get the girls saved. Little do the two girls know how deep the sex ring goes around town and when Uncle Jason starts asking the right questions, well let’s just say that things start to escalate. I will have to leave this here right now since the rest of the world has not seen this movie yet, but I can guarantee you that you will love how a simple stop at a hardware store can change a woman’s life. I loved watching how Sloane and Katie transform into someone that they thought they despised to get exactly what they need. With almost everyone in town in on what the brothers Jed and Lucas are doing, I cannot believe that nobody tried to put an end to it, but they seem to receive their own benefits in one way or another. I love the revenge tale that plays out and have no complaints about it, but maybe just a little bit more blood and gore. I would say that this movie has a little bit more of a seventies feel to it and even though there are cell phones used, there is not really any other sort of technology being referenced and that is what really makes it a fun ride. If you get the chance, make sure to head down to the Mile High Horror Festival and check out Even Lambs Have Teeth and if you are lucky enough to get in, you will actually have the chance to meet with a couple of the cast members and ask them your questions about the movie, their motivation and most importantly, where the pig mask went. Stay Scared!
