Written by John Edward BetancourtThe other day some wonderful news came across the wire that left me with a hint of internal conflictt. Yes it was announced that Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell would be at long last coming together for another chapter in the Evil Dead but that it would be different than any of the fans expected, it would be a television series premiering on Starz sometime next year. Now I say I was conflicted because after I saw the news I was jumping up and down for joy, then I had a moment of pause. I wasn't upset, just, surprised. We have all waited forever to see what happened to Ash after Army of Darkness but I think I can speak for all of us Evil Dead fans when I say that I think we expected it to be on the big screen. After all, every single tale of this poor sap turned hero has been on the silver screen, and even the 2013 film of the same namesake was presented to us in theaters. So my first thought was...would this even work? Well I took a few moments to think about it, actually a good day or two before coming to realize that this is one of the most fantastic ideas in the history of ideas. Yes, the conflict left me once it dawned on me that with a television series of this, on cable, Raimi and company can do whatever the hell they want. We should still be able to get the gore, the laughs and of course...more Bruce Campbell as Ash. I mean, ten weeks of Evil Dead is better than no Evil Dead for starters but really just imagine it. Incredible one liners and badassery from Bruce week in and week out. His character on the run after all these years and forced back into being a hero as the deadite threat returns, it is going to work. After all Bruce is no stranger to television and well, perhaps the biggest thing that put my mind at ease is that Sam Raimi will be involved in the show as an Executive Producer and write and direct the first episode. The man behind it all will be guiding the tale and that's reason enough to trust that this will kick some serious ass. After all, Sam's never let his fans down when it comes to this franchise and now, he's going to treat us week in and week out with one of the coolest horror stories to ever exist and he's bringing back one of the best characters of all time. I can't wait to see where this show will take us. Hail to the king, baby.
