Written by Scott Edwards There are things that go bump in the night, I have seen and heard them all of my life, but never have I thought of these sounds to be ghost related. I am sure that when I was younger, I was afraid of the Boogeyman since I would never let my door be fully closed, much less not have a night light. There are things that hide in the dark and only come out to play when provoked, but what if they really had it out for you? There are many ways to get away from these unseen threats that hide in the shadows, and the first one is to just leave them be, if you don’t disturb them, they will not disturb you, or so you think. Madison is alone with her kids for the first time in her life. After losing her husband, she has been having a hard time in keeping her life in check but is trying her best. With summer break upon her and with the kids at camp during the days, she has found that the house is not the same, but not because of their absence, but because of her uninvited guest. When trying to go to bed after the sun has gone down, Madison is attacked by a ghost, and she knows that she is not the only one in the house experiencing this strangeness. Young Jacob and his sister Haley are at a loss for what has happened to their father and want to do something to help their mother in her time of need, but they are so young and do not have much more to give then their love. Jacob has been acting out as well, taking the fight to bullies that have made fun of him for losing his father, or just are rude to his sister. Being required to talk to a counselor about his troubles, Jacob is starting to get better and after six long months of visits, he is almost in the clear. Madison is happy to see that her son is doing better, since she sees a lot of her late husband in him when it comes to rage and knows that currently living in the house is not helping him, or her family in the slightest. Younger Haley has seen the ghost and talks to it on a regular basis. Jacob has heard the conversations in her room and even though his mother does not believe him, he knows that it is true. As the nights continue to get worse in the house, and the attacks start to get more violent, Madison has had enough. When her children are grabbed by the ghost and given some sort of burns, she is ready to leave and stay with her boyfriend for the night. But when getting to the front steps of the house, both of her babies fall ill. Needing to keep her children in the house, Madison stays home with them and tries to find out what is really happening. Searching the internet endlessly, she finds a similar story that came from a scientific research facility, but little does she know what it means when the entities keep coming back for her and her children. I did enjoy this movie quite a bit after the story started to move and the family's back story was finally told. I like how the ghosts were able to move around the house at will and that an electrical event always happened when they either arrived or disappeared. A different idea overall about a house haunting that did not disappoint in my mind. I really liked young Jacob’s character in the movie, he is the young hot head that will say or do things that are right in his mind and I can identify when it comes to that, but I do not remember going off the rails and breaking a kid’s nose, although that scene made me laugh a little bit. Some of the effects in the movie are shoddy, but if you focus on the story that is being told, the effects are only a small part of what is really happening. It's a good little movie with a twist ending that will leave you shaking your head. Stay Scared.

Written by Scott Edwards There are things that happen in your life that will change it drastically, but if you are able to keep your sanity throughout, you will be okay. Not wanting to change who you are is the key thing to remember when something traumatic happens to you and even when you think that you cannot go on afterwards, you can power through it. There are so many ways to get help when it comes to coping with a difficult situation and more medications have become available to make it tolerable. Time should heal all wounds, but if it does not, there are more options out there that can keep you moving forward, rather than looking back. Evie and David Maddox have decided to make the move that will change their lives. Purchasing a vineyard, David is ready to make his dreams come true and with his wife by his side, nothing can stop them. Having a party thrown for them by town elder Victor Napoli, the two are feeling welcomed in the small community, but when they meet the local wine taster, Helena, their lives start to change drastically. After talking with Evie for a couple minutes, Helena enters the home and sees something bad coming from the Maddox's unborn baby and the couple needs to leave before it is too late. Dying on the floor, Helena delivers her message and even though David has come to terms with what has happened, Evie thinks that there is something more to the story. Having visions around the house, Evie believes that something bad has happened there before the couple moved in and starts to ask around town to find out what it was. But her investigation is coming up empty when it comes to something sinister, and her visions start to get worse. Talking with her doctor, Evie is directed to take medication to keep these thoughts at bay, but she is with child and does not want to do anything to harm it while she is pregnant. Joining a yoga class for expecting mothers, Evie quickly forms a bond with Sadie who seems more normal than the rest of the residents attending. When Sadie hears that Evie might start taking pills to keep her mind straight, she gets upset and wants something to keep her friend from going down that road. As the visions continue to get worse for Evie, David has to put his foot down. Thinking that she does not like the house and is still suffering from the accident she was in years ago that killed the other driver’s child, he forces her to take the pills. Sitting at home like a zombie, Evie knows that she still needs to leave the house, as there is something evil in it with her. As she continues to research the history of the house and checks out the ruins of an old house in the back yard, she comes across the fact that their neighbor, Victor Napoli’s family once owned the land. Questioning Victor about what had happened there before she and her husband moved in, Evie finds out that his grandmother had the same strange feelings in the house and even though nothing bad happened, she took all of the steps to keep anyone from moving in. Knowing that it is not just her, Evie leaves the vineyard and urges her husband to follow, but when she takes the only car, Evie is forced to return home to pick him up, but when she enters the house once more, all hell breaks loose. Not a bad movie at all, I actually enjoyed the interactions between Evie and Sadie quite a bit. The two expecting mothers seemed to hit it off famously and should be lifelong friends, or at least until their babies are born. I like how the story moved and when it came to the flashbacks about what happened in the house, wow, I don’t think I would have liked to live in there either. I was a little disappointed with David and how he stopped being supportive for his wife in her time of need, but it is difficult to imagine what anyone would do when put into these somewhat extreme circumstances. With a couple good twists and turns, everything is wrapped up with a little bow as the movie finishes. I might want to clear my schedule and see what this house has in store for me at some point. Stay Scared. Written by Scott Edwards How far would you go to ensure the perfect life for your child? I would like to think that I would give my kid everything he or she needs to move on in life and meet as little resistance as possible. I am all for kids learning the hard way as well, as long as it does not involve broken bones or health issues, but sometimes they will need to encounter those as well. Setting up your child for success could be the greatest thing you can do as a parent. It is important to protect them from some of the craziness of the outside world, but if you keep covering their eyes when they get older, they will not have a clue of what they should do when you let them go out on their own. Billie Kope wakes up on a beach, not knowing what happened the night before. Getting off of the beach and looking for shelter, she runs into a young woman that is running for her life. Not being able to find out what the girl is running from, Billie sees several other people doing the same thing. Running away from something with the crowd, Billie needs to find out what is happening around her and where she is. Being taken back to the survivor’s camp, she is ready to ask the hard questions, but the camp’s leader Quentin wants to know her story first. Keeping quiet about what she was really doing in Mexico to start with, Billie hears that everyone else was at a bar the night before they were brought to the island that they are now trapped on. Trying to get more information about what is really happening, Billie strikes out, but she is still determined to finish her quest of finding her missing sister. Walking on the beach with her new friend Nick, the two run into another survivor dressed in camo who appears to be a member of the military. Stitch was Special Forces for the British and is willing to help with whatever the plan is to get off of the island. The three are able to build a raft and start out on the open sea to the island they have seen in the distance. Being advised against this by Quentin, the group makes it and finds a small village inland, but when they try to get help from anyone that will listen, the hunters from their old island show up and take them back to their new home. Not understanding what is really happening Billie tries to get more information once again and when finding out that everyone on the island had recently been to the doctor before they arrived, she is starting to put the facts together. Rich has developed a harvesting station on the island and only caters to top end clients that will pay a premium for his captive’s untarnished goods. With his main man Sarge running the hunts, he has little to worry about, but when receiving word that his new client is on her way to the island, he starts to worry. Billie, Nick and Stitch have a plan of escaping the island and are able to locate a boat that was not guarded to get themselves back home, but Billie will not leave the islands until she finds out what happened to her sister and gets the other survivors to safety. I don’t know what to compare this movie to, the story line seems sort of familiar, but there is enough action to make you forget what you were trying to match this movie up against. I really enjoyed this one, mainly because the cast seemed to bring the story to life. I liked the idea of picking out your donors and hunting them down when it comes time to impress your next client, since this may be a growth opportunity at some point. Billie was just amazing in this movie and it is difficult to find anything wrong with her, much less her story line. Stitch was a big surprise, I did not know what to expect out of him when the fighting started and I don’t want to give anything away about his growth, but he did deliver in a big way. Well, it just goes to show that if you go to Mexico, be careful because people are always looking for something from you. Stay Scared. |
