Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...One thing that is always wonderful for a show that is granted a second season is the fact that everyone involved gets to try new things. The show can experiment with some new exciting stories and in the process, new things can be done with our favorite characters and they can grow and evolve at last and that's exactly what happened on this week's episode of The Librarians. In fact season two of this show has done an impressive job with this, wasting no time on taking us inside the heads of our characters and what makes them tick before letting them discover new things about themselves and making them better people along the way and while last week gave us a strong focus on Mister Stone, this week was all about Cassandra and we were able to see her in new light as she turned out to be quite the big time hero in "And the Cost of Education". Actually, this may be my new favorite episode of the show with everything that came to pass last night. It was bold, it took some chances with the story and well...it also threw in a little bit of horror by harkening back to the works of H.P. Lovecraft as the Librarians converged on the mysterious Wexler University, a school built upon the principles of magic, and one that caught the eye of the Library after a school mascot went missing. The group learned that the cause for all of this came about from a brilliant student's science experiment gone wrong, since in the process magic combined with science and managed to summon a tentacle monster from another dimension that fed off of ego and pride. But the plot is immaterial because like I said, this was a different kind of episode for the show and that's all thanks to its Cassandra centric storytelling since she went all out to save the day. Not only did she figure out how to close the portal, she found some new strength within by jumping into the alternate dimension to save a life. That was actually one of the episode's coolest moments with the surreal nature that played out around us but it also set up a few important pieces for the future, more on that in a moment because not only did Cassandra play the hero and set things right...she stood up to Jenkins, something we don't often see her do, pointing out the fact that magic is everywhere and spreading and that the Library and its heroes need to find a different way of dealing with this fact other than just doing their best to hide the fact that it exists. If anything, this episode felt like a game changer, specifically in the fact that magic is spreading like wildfire and Cassandra is the first to really address that issue and also because...there are other nefarious forces now keeping an eye on her. There was that moment in the alternate dimension where it seemed like she was done for...before a group of mysterious Ladies of the Lake, masters of science and magic offered Cassandra a chance to join them, something she declined. Jenkins pointed out his concerns over their similarities to Morgan le Fey and the fact that they were fully aware of her now and it was ominous to say the least, and one has to wonder how these Ladies of the Lake will come into play down the road. Either way, what an awesome episode this turned out to be. I love everything they did this go round, I love how each Librarian is getting their chance to take the center stage and show off their intelligence and prowess and more importantly, the fact that the show took a few risks and put a few dark clouds on the horizon in addition to Prospero is pretty impressive. Where that foreshadowing goes just yet, we don't quite know, but I can't wait to find out. Until next time.

Written by ShaeRight after we moved back to Colorado, I was feeling a bit lonely. Both my parents were working full time jobs, and my little sister was in school; I was taking a break before going to college. I'd clean the house and walk my sister to and from her school, but it was kind of...dull. I wanted a dog. I had wanted a dog for years, but my parents kept saying no. There were various reasons, and in the end we ended up with a house full of animals. Four cats was a lot to have, especially at one time....you can't really walk a cat though. As sad as that is to say, it is true. Look, whatever you believe in, it can be said that opportunities arise at the strangest of times. My mom was working at a dog kennel, of all places, when one guest left their dog there for a longer than normal time. When my mom finally got in contact with the lady who owned said dog, she simply told my mom she was planning to take the dog to the shelter and give him up. My mom made the mistake of telling me this. A few hours of whining and my dad finally agreed to go meet the dog. It wasn't the best of impressions....The young little ball of energy was so excited he jumped up and scratched my sister's back. We learned that he was a mix of yellow Lab and Airdale, and that he could jump an 8 foot fence without much effort, it took a lot more convincing for my dad to agree, but eventually he gave in and my mom set up a home visit. The plan was that the dog could stay here at the house for one week, just to see how he would fit in. Well, one week turned into two hours. Shortly after the lady left, my dad called and said we were keeping him. Enzo was 2 at the time we got him. We had him for nearly 6 amazing years. Unfortunately, he ended up with lung cancer. Enzo was the best dog in the world, and my best friend. He'd sleep on the end of my bed every night and hang out with me. He took food slowly and gently, and would wag his tail in a circle. While my dog is no longer with me, he was the best friend anyone could have . While I understand that isn't the happiest of stories, I want to stress that he had an amazing life with my family. Dogs are such an amazing companion to have. Many of us on the site have animals that are well loved. Jimmy here (pictured above), is a special needs dog who is 13 years young. A white Jack Russell Terrier, Jimmy likes walks, playing and even Netflix. He does well with children and other dogs, but is a bit fragile since he is recovering from leg surgery. Jimmy is house trained and a bit of a cuddle bug! Don't let his age fool you, he's as lively and playful as a dog half his age. He's at the Quebec shelter, so for more information and to meet this little guy, please call or visit! Abby just so happens to be a Lab mix, just like my late Enzo... She's a very loving pup with a lot of energy to burn. Given her age and energy level would prefer a home with older kids, nobody under 10 please, Abby would also do well with being the only dog in your home. She needs someone who is gentle, kind, and understanding. Abby would love to meet you if you're interested, she can also be found at the Quebec center. For more information on these guys or if you're in search of your next family member, please visit dffl.org. They've done it a few times on the show now, leaving all of us in awe when they do it and last night...well apparently it was time to do it again because holy cow, they unleashed all kinds of creative fury on all of us. Except this time, I think we knew it was coming after those closing moments of the show last week when they revealed that Andrew was Lash, but I don't think we were ready for the emotional mess that came with this grand reveal and quite frankly, I'm still reeling over that insane ending that we will get to in a moment because let's be honest, the topic of the hour is one thing and one thing alone...Andrew and May's fractured relationship. This was the episode where we found out what went wrong after they tried to reconcile at the end of last season and while earlier this season it seemed as though they simply couldn't fix their differences, it turns out that was never the case. There was progress, there was romance and then...there was Lash. Yes, during a short break where Andrew was all alone we discovered he had full access to all the personal effects from Daisy's mom and Afterlife and as a parting gift from her...there was a broken Terrigen crystal lying within a book that documented the identity of every single Inhuman on earth and well...it turned out the good doctor had the proper Inhuman gene markers and Andrew was transformed into Lash. May of course, armed with her newfound knowledge from Werner Von Strucker confronted her love about the truth and well...things got ugly. Andrew iced her and took her to an abandoned building at his university to talk while Lincoln contacted Mac. He had put two and two together as well and came to realize that Lash was someone within S.H.I.E.L.D. and Mac put the final pieces together after witnessing May check out Andrew's flight records earlier in the episode. It led to one grand and final showdown with Andrew who despite Coulson's best efforts turned into Lash when Lincoln confronted him and after a bloodbath that put down several ATCU agents, May was finally able to reach Andrew before blasting him with a few bullets and shoving him into containment before letting Price do her suspended gel thing. If all of that wasn't enough to leave us breathless last night, the show decided to up the ante, throwing the biggest curveball our way yet when it came to the Price/Coulson romance that's been budding on the show. We were privy to a moment between Ward and Hydra lackey Malick when a phone call to Mister Malick revealed one horrible truth, Rosalind Price is working for freaking Hydra! We go from one finale that left my jaw dropped with that feeling in the pit of my stomach that no one is safe to another ending that does the same thing! This is simply brutal. This show continues to manage to top itself and you know damn well I'll be waiting anxiously to find out what happens next week when it looks like Price's true intentions are finally revealed. Until then. Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...In the few short weeks that it has been on the air, Supergirl has managed to get everything right. They've given us a strong, independent superhero in Kara Zor-El and we have quickly learned that she is always ready to face any challenge that comes her way regardless of the odds in front of her, and that she is willing to make mistakes and learn from them. It's made for one colorful character and last night the show decided it was high time to take her heroism to the next level. Yet, there was only one way to pull that off, by addressing the other superhero elephant in the room if you will...the Man of Steel himself, Superman. We know this show takes place in his universe as well, and while the show has been quick to embrace this iconic hero, I think we all knew at some point his super feats and the giant shadow his cape casts over Supergirl would have to be dealt with and they handled it in wonderful fashion in last night's episode "Fight or Flight". In fact all the ties to Superman came from Kara's need for one simple thing, respect. This episode picked up where we left off last week as Kara finally granted Cat Grant the interview she so desperately desired and in an effort to display her quest to be as wonderful a hero as Superman...it slipped out that they happened to be cousins. This little fact went viral at light speed and caught the attention of a nefarious looking fellow who was surrounded in armor and badly burned as well. This armored fellow made a point to seek out Supergirl and attack her mercilessly in an effort to punish Superman before Kara was able to damage his armor and send him fleeing. It turns out that the mystery man in question was known as Reactron, a villain that fought Kal-El many times in Metropolis, even nearly defeating the Man of Steel on several occasions, which made it clear that he wanted to harm Kara to hurt Superman. With Reactron in National City, Kara saw the opportunity to finally stand out as a hero as big as her cousin by bringing him down, but Jimmy was not sure she would be able to do it and during their second showdown, as Reactron gained the upper hand...Jimmy called in the cavalry and we got our second taste of Superman on the show as he saved his cousin. Kara was of course, furious, lecturing Jimmy on how she had to handle her own fights and despite their differences, and with a little help from her sister...Kara was eventually able to do what Superman could not...defeat Reactron. Simply put, this episode was brilliant through and through and it was cerebral enough that I really had to ponder on a few things before fully appreciating it because at first, I was a little annoyed with the fact that everyone was trying their damndest to "protect" Kara despite her abilities and that's when it hit me. This is a decidedly different kind of superhero show, one where Kara has played the part of being a normal human being for so long that those around her can see nothing else but the gentle and kind side of her she's always exhibited. Plus, let's be perfectly honest, the fact that she is a strong and independent woman is a big deal too, we're not used to seeing it on TV and clearly to a certain degree, neither are the characters. But what made it so brilliant is that everyone was able to work together to bring down Reactron. It wasn't about making Kara look weak in the end, it was about blending together the best ideas to enhance her powers and well...Supergirl is finally out of Superman's shadow and she's as top tier a hero as he is...and that made for one wonderful episode and a chapter in the series now closed I hope because it really is time to set Supergirl loose in this universe and let her discover her incredible potential. Until next time. Written by ShaeTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...In ancient Arthurian lore, Nimue was the name given to the Lady of the Lake. Or, well, one of many name variations. Names are powerful, and Nimue is much closer to Merlin then we thought. She is not the Lady of the Lake, but she did have a hand in forging the legendary Excalibur. But where did the sword come from? Where did Merlin get his magic? Our tale starts many, many, years ago. Merlin and another man are running through the desert. They appear to have escaped from something…or rather someone. Thankfully, they see something glimmering in the distance. A chalice sits atop a waiting pillar. The man runs to it, touches it, and promptly explodes into dust. Merlin, however, stops. He asks the heavens for permission before touching the goblet and taking a drink….once the cup is drained he sits….and a field and forest grow…and hundreds of years later it is a village. Merlin has been granted magic, but by what? In this village he meets a girl, one from another town. She’s carrying seeds with her. The only thing she grabbed from her village before it was attacked and burned. Merlin lets her plant them and he makes them grow into the flowers she loves so much. There is a problem though. Merlin….has fallen in love. Her name is Nimue….he wants to marry her, but he has a problem. He cannot die, he is immortal, but perhaps there is a way to fix that. He tells her of what made him this way. He’d found the Holy Grail, he drank from it….and with the first fire created by man, he can forge it into a sword, one that he can put his power into. They travel to Nimue’s village, or the ruins of it. The masked man that had burned it is tracking them, searching for the Holy Grail…. He finds them, just as Merlin finishes the sword. He takes Nimue and in the scuffle he ends up killing her. Merlin suffers her loss, only…she’s not dead. While Merlin was casting a protection spell, Nimue drank from the Grail. She’d wanted nothing more than to be like him, to be immortal with great power. He denied her this, saying that it’s too much power, and that life is too precious to be immortal. Nimue lives, and she takes the heart of the man that burned her village. Merlin warns her not to crush it, not to kill the man. That this will place a darkness in her heart, and that he cannot stop it…instead, she kills the man. She becomes the Dark One, the First Dark One. In her haste to get away she breaks the sword in half. Merlin takes Excalibur and places it in the stone. He then takes the smaller piece and makes it into a dagger; a spell tethers Nimue’s soul to it, all so he can stop her from doing more harm. Of course, we know he attempts to kill her later on, she gets ahold of the dagger, and traps him in the tree… In Camelot Merlin needs Excalibur, which means sending a team in to get it. He also needs the ember from the first fire and that's what he needs Emma for. While the others are away, He and Emma travel to the pit that held the fire and here Emma must face the original Dark One, Nimue…this will determine if she lives or dies, as Nimue is…a bit angry. Of course Merlin can see her once she appears to Emma. Nimue tells Emma that Merlin needs to be out of the way. That power and doing what you want is true freedom. As Emma’s body is taken over, she’s on the verge of killing Merlin when Nimue says something to Emma that has her fighting back. She’s away from Merlin and fighting Nimue, commanding her for the ember. The trip was a success, Emma has passed a test… It’s not so lucky for the rest. Snow stands guard over Zelena while Regina, Robin, Hook, and Charming go into the castle for the sword, as per Zelena’s instructions. Snow is knocked out and taken hostage, and Zelena waltzes right in. She’s free of the bracelet and working with Arthur. She casts a binding spell over Excalibur, one that had Merlin’s soul attached to it. Now Arthur can command Merlin, and he does…. In present day, however, Emma has restored the sword. She’s faced with all incarnations of the Dark One as they watch it happen. She takes the sword in hand, and now has the power to destroy all Light, or all Darkness, for good….where is Merlin when you need him? Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...We're only three episodes into the second season of TNT's The Librarians and already the show has managed to not only surpass last season but it continues to surprise me. Every single week something important happens to grow the characters in unique and special ways and last night's episode "And What Lies Beneath the Stones" is perfect proof of that. In fact this particular tale managed to squeeze in a ton story wise and character wise, giving us at last an in depth look at Jacob's past while managing to get extremely philosophical at the same time. Especially since lies were the centerpiece to our magical quest in this week's episode and the show gets big time props from me for managing to make lying a tangible and dangerous act. Yes you read that right, lies put everyone in physical danger and the show pulled this off in incredible fashion. As it turns out, the team was introduced to a shape shifter last night, one that used lies and deception to fuel its power and these creatures are so good at feeding off of our tall tales that they have managed to cause some major conflict in human history. A fine example of this as we learned from Jenkins, the French Revolution was in no way caused by financial disparity...but by a shape shifter. Of course this mischievous creature causes hell for the Librarians, forcing them to at last tell the truth to one another as to why they weren't able to work together after Peru in an effort to diminish the creature's power and all of this led to the big focus on Jacob. Specifically because of the fact that Jake had to face off against two threats greater to himself than the shapeshifter, being honest with himself and facing his father once again. Now we know that Jake has been keeping his intelligence and scholarly life a secret because of the simple fact that anything outside of taking over the family business would be viewed as a failure to his father and he wanted desperately to please him. It was wonderful to finally see him come to terms with telling his dad the truth in his own special way and in the process, saving the world from more shape shifter madness. All of that, is precisely why I love this show. It's simply refreshing. Look I enjoy dark and brooding stories as much as the next guy but there's nothing wrong with having your pallet cleansed with something wholesome and positive and that's what this show does through and through. I love the fact that the Librarians had to finally come clean with one another to save lives and I love that Jacob finally stood up to his dad and became true to himself. It's always a positive message on this show, regardless of the odds. It's uplifting and fun and while this week may not have featured Prospero and Moriarty and that plot thread, who cares? This week's magical monster was an absolute blast and served as one inventive way to unify our heroes. Until next time. Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...So, I have to give some major credit to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. when it comes to their storytelling this year because of one simple fact...it's been absolutely fantastic. This season has been the perfect blend of action, adventure and drama and last night was no exception as the show continued what may be its best season to date with one incredible episode. After all, we were treated to quite a few wonderful things last night. First and foremost, we got the good news that Andrew survived his assault from Hydra and the fury May felt over Ward going after her honey brought her back to S.H.I.E.L.D. which in my household may have led to someone watching the show cheering loudly at the television and getting a confused look from the dog. It happens sometimes and I digress, because May wanted one thing when all was said and done, revenge on Ward. She and Bobbi hit the trail to find him in fact and we quickly learned a few significant things along the way. One, that Bobbi is clearly hesitant to be back in the field despite May forcing her back into action and I wonder if that little bit of fear within her will resurface again despite the fact she overcame it long enough to kick some tail and the other little nugget of information we discovered is that not all of Hydra's senior leadership is as dead as we were led to believe since last night we met Gideon Malick. He seems to be quite the mysterious figure, and a man that everyone in Hydra feared, according to Ward. We only got a taste of this character but, not gonna lie, the fact that Powers Boothe is playing him is awesome, and it's inherently clear this is one ruthless and intelligent man and I'm curious to see what role he will play on the show this year now that we have met him. But all the fun and action aside, a couple of other important things happened as well. We finally got a look inside the A.T.C.U. facility and discovered that Inhumans are indeed being treated in a humane but weird fashion since Price is basically putting them into suspended animation until a cure can be found, and the hunt for Lash...finally led to the big reveal as to who he is. At first Daisy and Mack thought he might be a member of the A.T.C.U., but all of those leads came up empty. Instead it turned out to be the last person possible we thought it could be as Baron Von Strucker's annoying son reveals to Agent May...Lash is her husband Andrew. Yes, somewhere along the line Andrew was turned by the Terragen and he is the big monster that has been wiping out the Inhumans every chance he gets. Now we know why he has been so hell bent on making sure no Inhuman makes it to active duty, and how all of them are being discovered and that's just terrifying, because you could see the fury in his eyes and his disdain for his own kind in the last three minutes of the show. In fact I'm not sure any one of us felt safe watching him talk to Daisy about Lincoln during the final moments of the episode. Either way, bravo to this show for surprising us with this excellent twist and it's going to make the wait for next week al the more difficult. Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK..I had only one real question in my mind when it came to Supergirl after the stellar series premiere last week, specifically...how on earth were they going to top the pilot? I mean that first episode was absolutely top notch and when I settled in for last night's episode, I got my answer...stick to what worked in episode one, throw in more of a super villain and make your characters even more colorful than they were a week ago. All of that made for one incredible episode, one that actually managed to blow the pilot away believe it or not and in two short weeks this show has completely managed to reel me in. So where to begin with this excellent episode, well let's work a little in reverse this week and talk about the villains the show is bringing forth because well...they're something special. After all, most comic book villains in film and television managed to be pretty freaking one dimensional and in a way they have to be. The show is about our hero and their journey and the baddie of the week or the season villain serve their purpose just for that. But already, Supergirl is doing something different with their villains. Already General Astra's plans for world domination seem a little different than we are used to. She's not just here to wipe us all out, she's here to rule us, giving her a God complex you rarely see on television and I love that. Not to mention, even our baddie of the week has a purpose since the throwaway alien this episode wasn't trying to do anything else but eat on this planet...that was a new twist that I really enjoyed. But outside of the villains, the show's strength is already its character development and well...one of the grand debates is how on earth do you make a superhero that is invulnerable and can fly and basically do anything they want relatable? Well they figured out how to do that last night, by doing something I've never seen before with heroes of Kara's caliber...let her make mistakes. Supergirl pulls off one blunder after another with this being her first week as a superhero and I absolutely loved this touch. We've never seen our heroes make mistakes like this. They get their powers and are experts at salvation in record time...so to add this little wrinkle to the fold is nothing short of genius. But the last thing that caught my eye last night...was Hank Henshaw. When I heard that name last week, chills ran down my spine because the last interaction I saw with that character was when Superman died and Hank Henshaw assumed Kal-El's identity and well...bad things happened. I kind of let it go since he's the boss and is trying to make the world a safer place...but then this week they go and give us the glowing red eyes and now I have to wonder...is Hank friend or foe and were the glowing eyes due to the fact he's already a cyborg like in the comics? This is going to be something worth keeping an eye on and I won't lie...if they bring out the cyborg I may giggle and squeal, he's one of my favorite villains in the "Super-verse". In the end however, I love the character growth Kara is going through on this show. A lot is being thrown at her week in and week out and while she is stumbling and making mistakes, she is handling adversity like a champ. She could easily fold, she could easily walk away but instead she's sticking it out in every way possible. Doing everything to be better and live up to the S that is now famous on planet earth and I love it. She's an incredibly strong character and completely relatable and I'm totally rooting for her. I want to see her defeat her evil aunt and I want to see her become the incredible hero that resides deep within her heart. Until next time. Written by ShaeTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...At work, a coworker of mine is also painfully obsessed with this show. Now, here’s the thing, she always watches it when it premieres, while I am generally asleep. So, when I finally got to watch it in the wee hours of the not-when-it-aired-but-as-soon-as-it-was-on-Xfinity, I may have been a little more vocal than normal over my love of this show. Alright, let’s break this down. Merida and Belle are the cutest best friends ever. I have decided that this is acceptable and that they should be forever friends. The end. Okay, so back in Camelot we have everyone realizing that Arthur is a horrible human being. The group, with Merlin, breaks into the dungeons to free Lancelot. They also find and free Merida. On their way back to…I’m not sure where they were going, Merida knocked Belle out and kidnaps her. It’s okay, most friendships actually happen this way (see Mattie! It’s normal!). Merida needs her help. The three of the four clans have kidnapped her brothers and plan to take over the kingdom. Merida convinces Belle to help her, they need magic to see what’s going on first. As it so happens, the clans are planning to murder her three not-so-little brothers since she won’t relinquish the throne. Merida has Belle make her this potion that will turn her into a bear. Upon confronting the traitors, Merida drinks the potion…only Belle might have switched it out with water, because, you know, she’s tricky like that. She’s determined that Merida doesn’t need magic, she just needs to trust herself and stop blaming herself for her father’s death. Which she does the second the three young clan leaders release their arrows towards her brothers. Merida’s own arrow knocks all three out of the air…because…..physics. But, nevertheless, Merida is soon the Queen of her land once again! Yay! Also, best friends fight. Look, it happens. Even when the Dark One takes your memories, puts you back into modern day, and takes your heart forcing you to do things. In this case, though, Merida is tasked with making Rumple into a hero. He….is having troubles. Eventually, though, he comes to some terms. Breaking the teacup that meant so much to him, Rumple breaks free of Merida’s capture and finds Belle in her library. Yay! They’re together again! Kiss and make up already! Seriously! But, alas, they don’t…ish. Instead, Rumple decides they need his shop, that way he can protect them, they’ll be safe there, right? Sure! Merida has been tasked by the Dark One to go after and kill Belle. She’s impatient, and not in the mood to deal with Rumple being a slow learner. So Merida hunts them down. Fires a few arrows. It’s actually Belle that saves Rumple by knocking the rug out from under Merida. And Rumple is like ‘Kay, we needs to go babe!’. Fleeing town sounds like a great idea, for Rumple, but Belle isn’t in the mood. She forces him to stop the car, tells him off, and leaves. Merida is waiting with a potion, the right one. While neither of them have their memories, well, Belle doesn’t, the Potion is bad. It turns her into a massive bear. Time to do some cardio! Run Belle run! It’s actually a bit scary since BearMerida gets Belle cornered. Rumple shows up, and in a freak accident saves her. Guess who is a hero? He doesn’t kill our Scottish Queen, but turns her back with magic (and a bit of luck). They meet Emma in her basement, and Rumple strikes a deal. Give Merida her heart back and he’ll pull the sword from the stone. And against all odds, it really works. Of course, for a moment we’re lead to believe it won’t. Rumple has a heartwarming speech and tells Belle he’d had given it all up sooner, should have been the man she deserved all along. And she says it’s never too late to try. Kinda made me teat up…a lot. With the sword free…well…that's trouble. Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...The Librarians turned out to be one of the most awesome surprise television shows I have enjoyed in years with its upbeat mentality and it's no secret that I instantly fell in love with the show and watched it religiously and with good reason, the characters are rich and colorful, they grow and the show does a great job giving us an in depth plot for the season, yes that includes this one. But alas, I was a little worried at the end of last year, since the Librarians defeated the bad guy and in a way the season finale felt like a series finale and it left me wondering after Season 2 was given the greenlight...where do we go from here? Well as it turns out, the show decided to do some extremely interesting things for season two, so interesting in fact we are going to combine both episodes of last night's season premiere into one giant recap because...well let's be honest despite being split into two different episodes, this was really one big one and it was spectacular. The first thing the show did differently was surprise all of us with our characters more or less going their separate ways, something one would never expect to see as tight knit as they were at the end of last year...but here we are with everyone enjoying their own adventures before the Library brought them all back together and well, I'm happy to report that the character development we saw last season was back with a vengeance last night. Slowly but surely our intrepid heroes discovered that ego got in the way and that they work better together than apart and it could not have come at a better time. After all, there's a grand new threat, and I love what they've done with this year's villain. No more is it the mysterious Serpent Brotherhood working in the shadows to take over the library...instead the Librarians are dealing with the fallout of magic getting a new lease on life by revealing that some stories are so powerful and told so many times that the characters can come to life and walk among us, which I think is a stroke of genius, but more on that in a moment. As it turns out, Shakespeare's Prospero is one of those characters, known as a "Fictional" and he wants to finally wield the power he surrendered in print so long ago and with magic alive and kicking...he brings forth another iconic character in Professor James Moriarty to help execute his dastardly plans for world domination. So I made mention of how these particular villains are a genius move and I mean it. After all, how does one top the Serpent Brotherhood and the cool plot line that came along with them? With more magic, and I guess in this case, the personification of it with these fictional characters come to life and I say this is genius for one simple reason...how does one defeat what does not exist? That's the beauty of this all, the fact that our bad guy this year is driven by a quest and purpose to be something more in this life and well...he knows he is in essence not real so what the heck does he have to lose? It's going to make for some interesting storylines this year for certain. Plus, it's so good to have our intrepid heroes reunited and doing what they do best. Though I'm not sure if we are going to revisit exactly what split them apart in the first place, granted they hinted at it, but if the crisis at hand calms down and old habits come knocking it could spell trouble for the group and well...I like this twist. The show last year was big on how to blend the unique talents of others to come together and do something spectacular and this year looks to be pushing toward how to resolve one's differences to do something spectacular and as always, I love the fact that the show works toward a positive message like that. Either way, it's good to be back in the library and I am beyond happy that this show is back on the air. I really can't wait to see what crazy adventures are in store for us this year....until next time. |
