‘Joe Bob’s Ghoultide Get-Together’ Inspires Shudder Viewers to Raise Over $208,000 in Charity1/5/2023 Written by John Edward Betancourt The vast majority of people out there, really don’t associate the horror genre with notions of giving and/or holiday spirit and understandably so. After all, horror stories are ugly by nature and focus on unsettling subject matter. The kind that makes folks uncomfortable and well… scares the living daylights out of them. But the fact of the matter is, this genre does more for people than most give it credit. For it teaches people a great deal about themselves and the world, in an effort to better it, and the community that supports horror, is filled with fine people indeed, and for proof, look no further than what Joe Bob Briggs did recently. For he once again hosted a Ghoultide special on Shudder, during the holiday season to bring horror fans together to not only enjoy horror flicks at a time when we needed the catharsis they provide, but he also did so… to raise awareness for various charities and raise money to advance their causes. Because the reason for the season is giving and unity, and horror fans came through in spades. For they raised over $208,000 dollars for the charities spotlighted during the broadcast of Joe Bob’s Ghoultide Get-Together, and well, here are some more details about this momentous accomplishment (courtesy of Shudder), one made possible by scary stories and the people that adore them. 'The Shudder Original special Joe Bob’s Ghoultide Get-Together premiered Friday, December 16 live on the Shudder TV feed at 9pm ET/8c and raised over $208,000. The money was divided evenly among the following charities: Jeanette Rankin Foundation March of Dimes Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Motion Picture & Television Fund In what has become an annual holiday tradition, iconic horror host and foremost drive-in movie critic Joe Bob Briggs presented a double feature, just in time for Christmas. This year, Joe Bob hosted two iconic holiday horrors, Don’t Open Till Christmas and A Christmas Horror Story. But the true star of the show was the charity auction of one-of-a-kind props from The Last Drive-In, including the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get married in an upcoming episode of the series, and personal memorabilia from Joe Bob’s 35-year career. Viewers were also able to participate in a telethon and order special, limited-time Joe Bob’s Ghoultide Get-Together items from Fright-Rags, with all proceeds split amongst the above charities. Joe Bob Briggs said, "I'm proud to say that our little Mutant Family came up with 420 percent more money than when we first did this in 2020, a full 30 percent increase over 2021--more evidence that horror fans are terrifyingly generous! One hundred percent of the funds go directly to the four charities, so thanks to everyone who made that possible, especially the team at Fright Rags, who always go above and beyond to create premiums for the people too strapped for cash to participate in auctions." The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs is produced by Matt Manjourides and Justin Martell and directed by Austin Jennings. AMC Networks’ Shudder is a premium streaming video service, super-serving members with the best selection in genre entertainment, covering horror, thrillers and the supernatural.
