Written by ShaeYesterday we all received some terrible news. The great Leonard Nimoy passed away from COPD at the age of 83. Many of us fell head over heels for Nimoy when he took the role of Spock on Star Trek. From there it was a whirl wind of a career in acting, directing, and so much more. Nimoy has meant so much to all of us nerds and geeks, making this news hard to handle. He was an idol and a Sci-Fi icon that will forever live on; immortalized in his work and our hearts. The Internet was filled with stories of meeting the actor and the memories he has instilled in so many. As I read my Facebook feed on this tragic day, I was touched to see that nearly everyone I knew was affected by his passing. My heart goes out to his friends, family, and all the fans. We here at Girls of Geek send our deepest condolences to his family. Leonard Nimoy meant so much to so many of us. The impact Star Trek has is still felt throughout the geek world. Without Nimoy we wouldn't have the Vulcan salute or the neck pinch...and that would just be weird. As logical as Spock was, Nimoy was energetic, outgoing, kind, and above all, a fan himself. Sadly, I never got the opportunity to meet him. I don't even know what I would have said. I remember watching some of the movies growing up. It wasn't until my adult years that I got a chance to see all of Star Trek. And it wasn't until years later I saw Mission Impossible, the TV series that Nimoy was also a star on. He was a talented actor. Above all, he was a pillar of the nerd community. He will be missed by so many. But in this sad moment, we should all celebrate the life he led and the legacy he left behind. He's want us all to do as he did, Live Long and Prosper.
