Written by ShaeFrom playing a Doctor working on the Enterprise to being a Cop, Karl Urban sure know's how to make a splash in the world of science fiction. This time he's playing John Kennex, a cop in the year 2048 (our not too distant future). Kennex is just returning back to duty on the LAPD after a two year hiatus. In this future, cop's are assigned a Synthetic (android cops) as partners. Within the first few minutes of the Pilot we see Kennex in a fire fight; his human parter shot against a car, dying. As Kennex attempted to get him out, he's hit, and loses his right leg. Flash to present, Kennex has a new synthetic leg, and soon a new Synthetic partner. Nicknamed AMEX, these android cops are now mandatory for all cop's to ride along with. Of course, Kennex doesn't get along with his new model. One thing leads to another and suddenly the machine is being shoved out of a moving car and destroyed. This leads to a new partner, Dorian. Dorian is a DRN, a predecessor of the AMEX. DRN's were made to be as human as possible where AMEX have no human emotions. Dorian is different from the very start. Bring on the sass, because this DNR has plenty of it. Dorian has no problems with telling Kennex off, in fact, he does so in the middle of the police department. The two eventually do get along; on a sting, Kennex trusts Dorian to lead him into a situation where AMEX's are telling their human counterparts to evacuate. The Syndicate, as the big baddies in the series, show their faces from the start, fighting the cops in the scene where Kennex loses his leg and partner. They show their faces again when they steal some medical supplies, kidnap and kill a cop with them; all in the search for something being kept in evidence. That's just the start. Soon, the Syndicate is attacking the police department; firing off en EMP to take care of all the AMEX. Dorian is unaffected, Kennex saves the Captain's life; and the main man behind the attack is taken into custody. As far as Pilot's go, this one wasn't that bad. Establishes the world, the characters, and sets up for a full (hopefully) season.
