Written by ShaeTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...In the past season and a half Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has gone from an adorable Marvel show to an integral part of the beloved movie franchise that have captured our devotion. The show starts off after The Avengers and has since been a product of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on a larger scale that I never imagined. More than just an hour filler show ever week, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a very important part of nerd history. It's rare for movies and shows to coincide with one another, let alone be directly affected by the other. This is not only ground breaking, this is world shattering. From the very beginning, this show brought its A-game with guest stars from the Marvel movies we love so much, and continued to deliver cameos throughout the series. S.H.I.E.L.D. also helps with the long wait between movies. If you're a Marvel Junkie like me, you've probably felt that sense of withdrawal after a movie is no longer in theaters. Sadly, I'm feeling that this week as S.H.I.E.L.D. is taking a break. In its place we get a special on Marvel and their universe. In the meantime, Let's talk about this shows development shall we? In the first season we were introduced to the organization we have all come to love. We also got the joy of finding out that Coulson was brought back to life. This is a character that we have all fallen in love with (or at least like), from his first appearance in Iron Man, to his heartbreaking end in The Avengers, Phil Coulson is one character that held a special place in all our hearts. Getting his own show was just an added bonus! By whatever means, Coulson was back, and he was putting together his own special team. On it was agent Malinda May, the brilliant engineer Fitz, Simmons the adorable scientist, and Agent Ward...the evil sociopath that broke all our hearts (though we didn't know that yet). The team wasn't complete, however, and along the way we picked up computer hacker genius Skye. It seemed all was well, everyone got along, and the world was fine. Or was it? Thor: The Dark World was our first glimpse of the intertwining of the two shows even more than we thought. Special guests made their appearances, solidifying the cameos we so craved. It also gave us more to look forward to. What happened on the big screen was affecting the world created on our little screen and it was magical. Slowly, our team was learning to trust one another. After all, our team had discovered their friend has been turned into a weapon, Deathlok. But things weren't done there. We almost lost Skye to the bullet of a bad guy. Thankfully the same stuff used to bring Coulson back saved her life. We also found out how Coulson was brought back from the dead; the blood of an alien being. That dark secret nearly pushed our favorite S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent over the edge. He finally got answers from Director Fury himself. Our Coulson was considered an Avenger, and Fury wasn't about to let his best man die. With that, Coulson moved on to other things. Let it be said that there are never happy times for long when it comes to Marvel. With the biggest plot twist, ever (I still get sad!) Captain America: The Winter Soldier brought forth a revelation that not only shook the MCU, but changed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. forever. HYDRA was alive and well; thriving in S.H.I.E.L.D. And if things couldn't get any worse, it turns out agent Ward was one of the them. After killing several agents and injuring Fitz (he did save Simmons though!), Ward was finally taken down by May. The betrayal is still felt. Season two handles the fall out and the rebuilding of S.H.I.E.L.D. with Coulson as the new Director. They may be small, fractured, and barely going, but the agency holds strong with the ideals that originally brought it to life. Skye has stepped up beyond the role of Hacker; trained by agent May, she is worthy of her badge. Fitz is desperately trying to be normal. Simmons, having a stint as an undercover agent in HYDRA, is now home with the team. Our little team has some new faces. Hunter, a mercenary who was married to the infamous Mockingbird, who has also recently joined the team. Triplett is back for the fun. Mack has taken Simmons place as Fitz new right hand man. The team seems to be functioning just fine. The threat of HYDRA is ever present, and a new threat is joining the game. Skye's long lost father has finally shown his face. The man is anything but fatherly, with a murdering temper. And now, agent Ward is loose....with such threats, it's daunting to think of how our team will survive, or if all of them will.... The show has evolved and changed to the movies happening around them. Coinciding while giving us more of the universe we love so dearly. Thankfully, the show returns soon and I can get my fix.
