Written by John Edward BetancourtI'm extremely picky when it comes to my television shows. Not because I don't enjoy television, heaven knows that I do, it's just a case of there's so much to see out there and there is simply not enough time in my day to enjoy all the shows I want to watch. In fact my Netflix queue is a sea of stories waiting for me to binge watch. So naturally, I stick to shows that I have a good feeling I will love and chip away at my list when I can. But once in a great while I stumble upon a true gem, a show that not only snags my attention in a matter of seconds, but also manages to completely and utterly pull me in and the next thing I know, it's either on my DVR or I'm making time for it live and so far this season, only one show has managed to do that, TNT's The Librarians. Now I will say in part, one of the reasons I even gave this one a shot is because of actor Lindy Booth. Being a giant horror fan I found her performance in 2004's Dawn of the Dead to be stellar and one habit I most certainly have is that when I find an actor I enjoy I follow them everywhere. It's happened with Bruce Campbell (a man who just happened to guest star on this show I might add) and pretty much the entire cast of Battlestar Galactica and to date following careers in that fashion has never let me down, including now. So, when I heard Lindy was playing a part as a series regular in this show, I felt compelled to give it a chance. For those unfamiliar with it, The Librarians revolves around a set of unique and quirky characters that head out into the world to save it from magical artifacts and nefarious people looking to abuse them. It's a simple setup, and one that works so well as a weekly serial because of those vibrant characters. It's those characters that are a big reason I've been watching this show religiously. See, I tend to gravitate toward a lot of darker shows, simply because of the conflicts that are so readily available in those stories, but when it comes to this show...it manages to provide conflict while keeping a smile on your face. After all, these folks are essentially strangers learning how to work together. But they trust one another regardless, and in the event that trust goes missing, they often play to being a bigger and better person by giving each other a chance to shine and of course, it pays off. It's simply unlike anything on television right now because of the fact that it is so refreshing with its positive outlook and sense of adventure and fun. Heck, last week on the show fairy tales came to life and it was handled in such a wonderful manner that I found myself laughing heartily all the way through and of course, I had to know how it ended. It's a show that I'm glad I gave a fair chance to, and quite frankly I'll be sad when this first season ends. But until then, I'll be making sure to tune in Sunday nights to see what happens next and I completely encourage everyone out there to do the same...you'll be glad you did.

So glad you gave The Librarians a chance and enjoyed it. You were drawn to the show by Lindy Booth, while I was drawn by the wonderful Christian Kane. His character, Stone, is perfect for him, and finally in The Fables ep he got to show his fighting skills, honed during 5 seasons of the best series ever, Leverage!

I was first drawn to it because of my favorite actor/singer Christian Kane and the fact it was brought to us by Dean Devlin and John Rogers.. who also did Leverage.. My favorite all time show and where i first discovered Christian... The Librarians is very distinctive i can say that for sure and that is what i am looking for in my tv viewing and the one and only show i make plans to watch!

I came to the show because of Christian Kane. I was a huge Leverage fan and I liked the Librarian movies in a fun, cotton candy kinda way.

I am the same way with Christian Kane aka Jake Stone as you are with Lindy. He is my favorite actor so when I heard he was going to be on The Librarians I had to watch and I love it! They all do a phenomenal job!

I totally agree, I love a show that's airy and has a sense of child-like humor. I was so into the original made for tv movies. That when the series was announced I was full of glee. The show has lived up to all I wanted and beyond. I so agree the fairy tales episode was so fun.. All I can see was when high heels appeared.. LOL Oh and the big bad wolf sniffing.. Sry off track.. But wanted to say bravo for your wonderful review , now because I love it so much , lets hope they don't cancel it..lol

Yes, I totally agree that The Librarians is very refreshing and not like anything else on TV right now. Christian Kane as Jacob Stone is definitely my favorite. He is such an amazing actor. He makes you feel every single thing. His facial expressions are priceless. I am looking forward to back-to-back episodes next Sunday for the season finale. I am just surprised there are not more than 10 episodes for this season.

I love this show. I too started watching it because Christian Kane was in it but I now love all of the characters and their interactions as well! I do not have cable so sadly I have to watch it on youtube when it comes out there but at least it's free to watch it then! Just a few days later than Sunday! It is a great show and I will continue to watch it and promote it as well!

I started watching this show because of Christian Kane. I adore the man since I saw him in Angel and followed him to Leverage and then to Librarians. I will continue to watch this show because of it's charm, humor, and unique style. I know a lot of other Kane fans will watch as well. Meanwhile, I will be spreading the word of this awesome show.

I too was first down in for an actor I enjoy following, Christian Kane, he never disappoints! Likewise, Dean Devlin and John Rogers throw in some Jonathan Frakes and it gets better and better! I have now found John Kim, Lindy Booth and Rebecca Romijn to follow and will have this show secured In my DVR plus the iTunes version while waiting for season 2!

Love the basis of the show and like 3 of the 5 main characters but Rebecca and John Kim are going to be the demise of the series. I've read so many threads, blogs and FB comments and I'm not alone on this thought. Look at various screen shots of Rebecca and John Kim.....they don't change and neither does their acting. Bring it back for a second season without those two and "work" it like the original Librarian and it will get better ratings.

The Librarians is a smart, well written, fun show that I look forward to watching each week. The characters are interesting, Christian Kane as Jacob Stone, Lindy Booth as Cassandra Cillian, John Kim as Ezekiel Jones, Rebecca Romijn as Eve Baird, John Larroquette as Jenkins, and Noah Wyle as Flynn Carson each bring something special to their roles. I will miss seeing new shows when the season ends, but hopefully we will get a Season 2 and many more after that.

I starting watching #TheLibrarians because of #ChristianKane and #DeanDevlin as what they do is always great veiwing. I keep watching also because the show is so fun, quirky, exciting and just plain good. This is a show that is not the norm on TV. A great show for the family to watch together. Sunday nights are fun now. Wish the show would not end. Would love a season 2!!!

You hit the nail on the head about why I love this show. I came in from the Christian Kane side of the house adter being introduced to him in Leverage and then 50 to 1 and wasn't disappointed. I even get my husband ti sit down and watch it live with me weekly.

I really enjoy the show, too - the fairy tales coming to life is by far my favorite episode so far. It's just so good to see Christian Kane back on tv...he's an excellent actor. The whole cast is very well chosen and I enjoy seeing the characters develop each week!

I would say that the plot is the same as Warehouse 13 but actors in The Librarians are the best compare to W13. Try to check also Leverage (where Christian Kane starred).

I agree with Mr Betancourt's take on The Librarians! Unlike you, Lindy Booth was not an actor I was familiar with, but I am a devoted Kaniac & am willing to watch any project that Christian Kane takes on! Thank you for the review & we Kaniacs also hope that The Librarians will be on for many more seasons!

I have to agree with John on this. #TheLibrarians is an amazing show, all the characters work amazingly well together. I usually stay with reruns of old shows, nothing has really caught my attention until now. #ChristianKane is a wonderful actor, and like you John I tend to follow him with everything he does. I love the fact that #TheLibrarians is a show my grandchildren can watch also, and I hope to be able to watch for many years to come.

I have a similar story as yours about this show, only I was following Christian Kane. Your description of the show is perfect. Add to that description that they drop puzzle pieces to the bigger story they are driving at for the finale and it is always an adventure.

I love The Librarians! It is a great show that's fun, smart, silly and has every genre in the book mixed in! It's my new favorite series that manages to mix Looney Tunes and Raiders of the Lost Ark with something refreshing and magical too!! I like it way more than I thought I would and I'm more than glad I tune in. :)

While I don't faint "The Librarians" to be quite up to par just yet, I believe it has great potential. Christian Kane is the reason I began watching. John Larroquette is fabulous in this series! His character is the most believable to me. I am enjoying getting to know the characters, but it needs to be fleshed out a bit more to make them believable as characters.
