When we are dealing with a genuine crisis in our lives. One that likely involves an illness in the family, we immediately turn to our support network. One that is composed of our closest friends, and our immediate family. Because we know they will be there for us, support us and comfort us during a trying time. Because truly, it takes a village in every sense of the phrase to get through life sometimes, and we are always grateful when our village rallies around us, and we often wonder what life would be like, if we did not have that. Which is a chilling thought for certain, one that sadly, is very real for a lot of people out there. Because not everyone gets that village, but it would be wonderful if everyone did. Since then, no one would ever feel alone and no one would ever be soured by a world that tends to mind its own business, and one cannot help but wonder, what the world would look like, if by chance the village was everywhere. Thankfully, we can get a better idea of that through fiction, for anything can happen within the framework of a story and this particular concept was explored in beautiful detail in the next episode of When Calls the Heart on the Hallmark Channel. For ‘Having Faith’ saw the town of Hope Valley learn of Jack’s affliction and well, rather than offer pity and thoughts and prayers, the town sprung to action. To support Elizabeth, Nathan, and little Jack. Which brought forth a flurry of beautiful moments. The kind where Bill asked to be reinstated as a Mountie, all so that Nathan could take a leave of absence and be with Elizabeth and support her properly while she dealt with this scary diagnosis. Not to mention, the wonder of insulin came up and how it could help Jack. Which prompted so many to work with the state to get the drug transported out that way, despite its experimental nature at this point in time, and when that didn’t go as planned, there was a grand pivot. The kind that would make Hope Valley a treatment center for diabetes so that the drug would be there on a regular basis, and that brought forth some powerful moments for certain. Wherein we saw a town come together to support someone in need, and do everything possible to lift them up, and with a final plea from Elizabeth, the state granted the town everything Jack and others would need, and yet, the wonder did not end there. Because as the town waited for supplies to arrive and for healing to begin, they opted to host a baseball game, and broadcast it on the radio, so that little Jack could enjoy it from home and find a sliver of joy through his suffering. Which was also beautiful to see and that brought forth, a supremely happy ending. Wherein insulin was delivered and where Jack felt better with it flowing through his system. But what mattered more here, was that we saw… a dream scenario. For we do indeed live in a world where this doesn’t happen on a regular basis. For all too often, people suffer and struggle alone, and they don’t have resources for help, and yet… we let that persist. Because of political and ideological nonsense when in fact, we should put that aside and help others. For everyone deserves support, and a chance to thrive and what a world we would have if the world looked like Hope Valley. All of which brought forth an amazing episode for certain. One that showcased what we are capable of when we cherish one another and it will be interesting to see what lie ahead for this town, come next week’s season twelve finale after this magnificent tale. Until next time. Watch ‘When Calls the Heart’
