Written by John Edward Betancourt Sometimes we as television and film consumers, encounter a story so good, so well-written that it really seems as though the journey we go upon, is the only one that will exist. For it appears to be a self-contained story that requires no follow up. But it does leave us wondering if a sequel would be possible. Because of how much we loved the story, the world, the characters and now and again… it does happen. After all, no one was sure that Die Hard could ever warrant a sequel and just like that… we received a bunch of them, and well… a television show in a similar vein is about to come back for another season of storytelling. Simply because earlier today, Apple TV+ let it be known that Hijack, the amazing real-time drama starring Idris Elba, is getting a second season. Despite the fact that its seven-episode run was indeed a beautiful self-contained story that wrapped up neatly but featured amazing characters and amazing writing. Which means, that the creative team has something up their sleeve and absolutely know they can find a new story for Sam Nelson to take part in, one that will be as compelling as the last and well, to properly celebrate this lovely announcement, here are all the details on the upcoming second season of Hijack. ‘Today, Apple TV+ announced a season two for hit thriller “Hijack,” starring and executive produced by SAG Award winner and Emmy Award nominee Idris Elba (“Luther”). “Hijack” is created by George Kay (“Lupin,” “Criminal”) and Jim Field Smith (“Criminal,” “Litvinenko”), and the complete first season of the series is now streaming globally on Apple TV+. Since its worldwide debut, “Hijack” has become one of the top dramas on Apple TV+, receiving wide acclaim from both critics and fans, quickly achieving a Certified Fresh critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and landing on the Nielsen Streaming Originals Top 10 list. The “instantly enthralling” series has been hailed as “a shot of pure adrenaline,” praised as a “crisp and tense” drama that is “tension-filled and gripping, often putting the viewer on the edge of their seat,” with Elba starring as a “commanding leading man.” “Global audiences were on tenterhooks watching Idris’s riveting performance in ‘Hijack,’ and we’re thrilled to be working again with 60Forty and Idiotlamp on an equally compelling season two,” said Jay Hunt, creative director, Europe, Apple TV+. “I was floored by the overwhelming audience response after season one. It’s top secret what new situation unfolds for Sam Nelson but I can assure you we will bring the high octane back!,” said executive producer and star Elba. The second season of “Hijack” will be executive produced by Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta and Tom Nash at 60Forty Films, alongside executive producers Kay and Field Smith’s own production company Idiotlamp Productions. Field Smith also serves as lead director for the series. Apple TV+ offers premium, compelling drama and comedy series, feature films, groundbreaking documentaries, and kids and family entertainment, and is available to watch across all your favorite screens. After its launch on November 1, 2019, Apple TV+ became the first all-original streaming service to launch around the world, and has premiered more original hits and received more award recognitions faster than any other streaming service in its debut. To date, Apple Original films, documentaries and series have earned 453 wins and 2,069 award nominations and counting, including multi-Emmy Award-winning comedy “Ted Lasso” and historic Oscar Best Picture winner “CODA.” About Apple TV+ Apple TV+ is available on the Apple TV app in over 100 countries and regions, on over 1 billion screens, including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, popular smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony, VIZIO, TCL and others, Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices, Chromecast with Google TV, PlayStation and Xbox gaming consoles, and at tv.apple.com, for $9.99 per month with a seven-day free trial. Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 205 of ‘Night Court’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
It is definitely safe to say, that the NBC franchise, Night Court, is synonymous with nerdy concepts. After all, Judge Harry Stone was as big of a nerd as they come, since magic has oft been viewed as a geeky thing to want to have in one’s life. Not to mention, some of its cast members are synonymous with some epic, geeky, franchises. After all, a regular guest star in the 1980s, Brent Spiner, would go from playing silly doof, Bob Wheeler, to Lieutenant Commander Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation, a career defining role, and one of the show’s series regulars from both the original and the new-boot of Night Court, had his own brush with the final frontier. For John Larroquette was cast as a Klingon named Maltz in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, shortly before Night Court launched his storied and illustrious career, and that role was of note, since Maltz made quite the demand of Captain James T. Kirk (then an Admiral) in the movie, which is a big deal for any character in the franchise. But what mattered more, is that particular moment only added to the nerdy nature of this franchise through and through, one whose legacy has been resurrected for a new generation… or next generation… by way of last night’s amazing episode of the show. For ‘Wrath of Comic-Con’ brought New York Comic-Con to the courtroom. Because sometimes nerds aren’t nice and cause trouble and with NYCC descending upon the city, costumes were everywhere to be found and… an old problem blew back into Dan’s life. For Julianne had returned to the court and was still hell-bent on ruining Dan. So, in order to avoid her wrath, he opted to dress up when not in the courtroom, as a Klingon. Named Maltz. Giving rise to the return of the character, while making Star Trek fans (this writer included) as happy as can be. But of course, this was more than fan service, it was also a chance for amazing shenanigans. Since Maltz was smitten with Julianne’s Catwoman con persona. To the point where the duo may have made an intergalactic connection. Since she asked Maltz to activate his love beam and transport her to a land of romance (yes, likely with phrase, ‘jol yIchu'’, off-screen, for you hardcore Trekkers/Trekkies). But what mattered more, is that John was a good sport and threw some lovely respect to an important role from his past, and while that alone could have carried this episode, make no mistake about it… the show’s trademark heart was present here as well. Courtesy of Abby. For an old friend that well, she hated deep down, came into town and made her life hell. Because Heather was a weird one, plain and simple, and moved to the beat of her own drum. One without filters or care, and well… Olivia made it clear that Abby couldn’t keep on this path, and to be honest about how she really felt about a friend that she kept around out of convenience. Which eventually she did. A move that reminded us to always be honest with ourselves and always take the time to see who really belongs in our life. All of which made, for another delightful episode of this delightful series. Because it had the heart we love, and it brought the laughs for certain. Because Dan as Maltz was a true treat and brought about so many laughs, as did Wyatt and Gurgs. For Wyatt’s desire to be part of the Comic-Con magic led to some solid chuckles for certain, and Gurgs’ influence on Christopher Meloni’s one man play, has all of us wondering what Bailiff: The Musical and Bailiff: The Musical: The Movie might look like in real-life. But truly, what mattered most to a fair number of fans that tuned in last night, was the respect it paid to the show’s past, and the career of John Larroquette, since all of that reminded us of what an amazing and nerdy ride this saga has been, and it’s wonderful to know we have so much more Night Court ahead of us. Until next time. Watch ‘Night Court’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode Six of ‘Extended Family’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
Sometimes when people become part of a blended family, quite the change awaits one of the new family members. In that, they are now going to be a parent. Because their significant other has kids with their former partner and that can be quite the adjustment. For now, that new family member has to figure out how to connect with those children and find ways to be a reliable stepparent that can raise them right and be a good role model in the eyes of their stepchildren. For that is the expectation and responsibility when they say yes to this situation and this particular reality is top of mind today, because it was the focus of the next episode of Extended Family on NBC. For ‘The Consequences of Status’ saw Trey deal with that very conundrum. A reality that came forth after quite the unique encounter with the police. For when Trey, the kids, and Jim were headed home from a Dua Lipa concert, Jim was pulled over for speeding. But any trouble Jim was going to face was nullified by Trey’s status. For Officer Schramm was in fact, a big Celtics fan and with a wave of a pen, in the form of an autograph on a ball that Schramm had in his car, the ticket was forgotten, and life went on, with quite the twist. In that, Grace and Jimmy Jr. were in awe of the fact that Trey was able to flash a smile, and get out of trouble, and that troubled Jim deeply. Because he was concerned that his kids were now of the belief that all they had to do in this life, was lean into status to get what they wanted and would never face accountability. And that bothered him, because he wanted his kids to really understand the value of accountability and all the lessons it can provide, and of course… the power of hard work and reward. But rather than press the matter harder, a little talk from Jim’s dad informed him, that this isn’t something one can fight against or teach. It takes a formative moment for that new parent to come to understand how kids view them, and how they learn from their actions. Which thankfully, did happen to Trey at a basketball game. Since Jimmy and Grace full-on tried to make use of privilege to get what they wanted. Which in turn humbled Trey and helped him to realize all of those points and that in turn, taught him what kind of role-model he needed to be for these kids, and reminded him of his roots and his journey to what he enjoyed in life now… to offer up the very lessons that Jim wanted his kids to learn, in the most unique manner possible. Since he had to go to extreme lengths and littering to get his own ticket. But he did get one at last and showed his kids what was important and that… made for one incredible episode. For so many incredible reasons. Such as the fact, that this exploration of parenthood is one that is unprecedented in nature. Because we don’t think much about the folks that come into a relationship, having never been a parent before, and become a parent. For they don’t have the supreme bond as a biological parent, and they are missing the skills that their partner has. Putting them behind the curve and forcing them to work, and it was great to see that here. Since once again, it allowed for some real-life parallels to come into play. Since this is something happening often in our world now, and folks in Trey’s shoes could use a little guidance. Not to mention… the other lesson here is equally as powerful. Because kids do see how we conduct ourselves and who we are in this world, and that is why it is important to be our best, so they can be their best, and this show deserves a round of applause for pointing all of this out, and for having a progressive discussion about it all, in a medium where we can learn so much and truly, this just leaves us eager for more. So, we can see what other amazing lessons about modern family life await us, courtesy of this brilliant series. Until next time. Watch ‘Extended Family’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 304 of ‘La Brea’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
It really is quite amazing, how much the hit NBC series, La Brea, is accomplishing from a storytelling standpoint in its final season. For a six-episode farewell tour should feel rushed, should feel incomplete, but that is simply not happening here. For David Appelbaum’s writing staff have figured out how to offer up balance in these final six episodes. The kind that features character development and closure and growth, for the people we’ve come to know and love, all while moving the plot forward in the most epic manner possible and well, for proof at how sublime of a job is taking place… look no further than this week’s new episode. For ‘Fire Storm’ put so many characters to the test this week from a growth perspective. Courtesy of… a grandiose fire on its way to wipe out the Fort. Which prompted everyone to abandon the town and try and find shelter and well, whilst on the road… a chance for growth for Sam, Veronica, and Lucas took place. For Veronica came to realize that rebuilding the Fort and starting over would be too much to bear for the weary people living in this era, and she came up with an amazing idea to save the Fort. Wherein a nearby dam could be unleashed so the fire could be quelled and well, the plan worked, and kept everyone’s home intact and in the process, so much growth happened. Simply because we watched Veronica go from her shaky origins in this tale to leading this community and being brave and coming into her own and that was just powerful to watch. As was seeing Lucas cherish life by saving a tiny Wolf puppy from the fire, since he too has changed and grown and oddly, his desire to do that… brought about growth from Sam. Who revealed a fire in his past, hung heavy over his soul since he failed to save the family dog and disappointed Riley in the process, and well, seeing that puppy in trouble at a critical time here, prompted him to step up to keep it safe. So, he could put the past to bed and find strength in doing so, and he succeeded in making all that happen. But while it was so joyous to see so many people step into their future and close out old chapters to start new ones, we made mention of some juicy plot progress, and that took place with the time travel storyline. For Gavin came to realize in conversing with his mystery friend online that the microchip he stole was the key to getting his family back together. Which meant, the chip was likely in the past and the only way to get it back to him… was to send a message into the future to Scott, and hope that somehow, he could figure out how to send the chip back to 10,000 B.C. and well, this was a plan that took us to some surprising places in this story.
Mainly because, the plan worked, in one wild manner. For while 2021 Scott got hold of the message and was able to contact 2021 Gavin’s phone, he never interacted with Gavin on the matter. Because Gavin was kidnapped by the mysterious woman we briefly met at the end of last week’s episode. Not for nefarious reasons though. For she turned out to be… Gavin’s half-sister, Helena, and she had all kinds of answers for us regarding the time-travel program that has hung heavy over this season. Such as the fact that their father invented the program, and that the portals popping up this season have specific destination years, 2021, 1965 or 10,000 B.C. and she also informed him… that they worked together to steal the chip.
Because she wanted to end this once and for all, for she had seen what this program had done to her family, and we learned of its potential harm. Since Maya, in the past informed everyone, that the chip was designed to create squadrons of planes with a weaponized version of time-travel, and so… Helena wanted Gavin’s help in stopping all of this. Which he of course agreed to. But before he could cross the threshold, Sam and Ty found him. Shortly after providing us with another tender moment reflecting upon growth and the journey of life with Scott. All because they used some police connections that Sam had, to find Helena’s car and well… this reunion put 2021 Gavin at a tough crossroads. For he had to choose. Either follow the instructions of a stranger, to save his family in the past. Or… follow the instructions of a stranger turned family member and go on a wild quest, and he chose the former. Which allowed for Ty to return to 10,000 B.C. with what Gavin so desperately needed and well, hopefully this pays off in a positive manner, since real trouble is brewing in the past. Because we also came to learn that Maya, may not be the wounded hero she has claimed to be. For she brought harm to Scott in some manner when he came to realize she’s a big cog in the wheel of this plan, and now our heroes will have to contend with her machinations whilst fighting to save their families and figuring out a way home. All of which made, for one robust episode. In fact, every moment we’ve discussed today took place over the course of a single hour. Which is amazing. Because normally this much stuff would be packed into say two or more episodes. But again, this writer’s room is top notch, and they figured out how to fit all of those plotlines into a single hour, and make every single one compelling, complete and engaging. But most important of all, the stage is quickly being for the series finale. For now, we have a heavy in Maya, and now we have the highest of stakes for our heroes to face, and we likely have… more growth on the way and more big moments, and that is going to make the wait for next Tuesday’s episode, as painful as it gets. Because we simply need more of this flawless final season, and all the storytelling wonder it has to offer. Until next time. Watch ‘La Brea’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 209 of ‘Quantum Leap’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
These days, it is supremely hard for a television show to deeply surprise an audience. Simply because, audiences are savvier than ever, and are onto the tricks that are sometimes used to lead us into a surprise. Which is why it is always wondrous, when a show manages to completely and utterly take us off guard. Because it means the writer’s room of that show figured out a way to offer us something new and exciting and well, it just so happens that the talented writers over at Quantum Leap on NBC, pulled off that particular feat and brought forth a stunning episode for the show’s season two midseason premiere. For ‘Off the Cuff’ was a story… that at first seemed to be free of this season’s central plot threads and mysteries. In fact, it appeared to be a grand homage to the 1988 motion picture, Midnight Run. For Ben leapt into the body of a bounty hunter that was dragging back quite the prize. A scuzzy, Saul Goodman-esque lawyer named Kevin who had mob ties. Which put this duo on a difficult journey back since the mob was after Kevin, truly hammering home the homage. One that was further enhanced by some good laughs, and some epic action. But there were some deep questions present. as to why this particular man was a focus for Ben. Because Kevin harbored very little redeeming qualities as a person. That’s when the surprises came into play. For once Kevin and Ben arrived at the home of Kevin’s brother, Josh, did it become clear that this story was deeply tied to one fascinating plot thread. Specifically, Ben and Hannah’s love affair through time and how they were drawn to one another… with a twist in this instance. For Hannah as it turned out, was married to Josh, and started a family with him. A move that shocked Ben to no end since he thought somehow, they could be together perfectly, but also… Hannah should be not denied life’s pursuits. So, Ben was forced to reconcile this reality and of course… he was ready to step in and save her from trouble. Since the mob were on their way to bring Kevin in, putting everyone in the house at risk. Which brought forth, another wondrous team up between these time-crossed lovebirds. One that was successful in saving the day and one that also… brought about more surprises. Because we, and for that matter, Addison, finally came to understand how deep the connection was between this duo. After all, time and technology used Ben’s draw to her to bring them together in the most outlandish manner possible. Which… gave Addison pause. Because clearly, time travel had changed everything between her and Ben. For it put them on two vastly different paths emotionally, and in reality. Because they had new perspective regarding love, and the moment, and that prompted Addison to realize, she had to let Ben go romantically. Which was why she said yes… when Tom finally popped the question. All of which gave rise, to one stunning episode. Because in essence, Ben is now laser focused on using his leaps to get near Hannah and protect her and nurture her, regardless of the circumstances. And that is a stunning twist that none of us saw coming, nor did we know was possible in this universe. But it’s happening and it’s powerful, and of course… this also changed the dynamic between Ben and Addison and… this is a twist that is changing the course of the show. Because now, there’s new stakes, and new drama to come about from a love affair for the ages. Something we didn’t see in the original show. Which adds new depth and new possibilities for this franchise, and it will be fascinating to see where this twist will take us, and what other surprises await us… as season two of this brilliant show continues along. Until next time. Watch ‘Quantum Leap’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 205 of ‘Bosch: Legacy’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
It really is quite amazing, how quickly we work to move on from trouble surrounding us and tough times we’ve already experienced. Because just like that, we put our heads down and head back into the thick of it. Usually by diving into our everyday work and hobbies, as though nothing happened and well… it does make sense as to why. Because tough stuff and trauma isn’t easy to deal with in the slightest. So sometimes, we do our best to avoid it through extra work and that can be problematic. Simply because… it doesn’t go away and needs to be dealt with, as evidenced by the next episode of Bosch: Legacy on Amazon Freevee. For ‘Hollywood Forever’ saw our core characters just working to move on from the last few months of chaos. For instance, Maddie was right back in the thick of on duty work via her new role. Since she quickly hit the streets of central Hollywood for some undercover work to keep tourists safe and that seemed to give her the healing she needed. In fact, she was so focused and so ready to be an officer again, her keen eye spotted real trouble on the streets and she was able to make an arrest, with one caveat. In that, there was a real fury buried beneath the actual arrest, the kind that prompted Maddie to damn near cross the line and be abusive as an officer. An act unbecoming of an LAPD street officer, and a Bosch for that matter as well, and that happened, simply because Maddie has that unresolved trauma she needs to put to rest. But she wasn’t the only one that was just working and keeping their head down regardless of bigger problems needing to be resolved. For Harry and Honey went full bore into their case. For Harry was eager to exonerate Foster and that led him to outright try and put an offer in on the house where Parks died to see the crime scene. Which led to an altercation with the husband and the police since Harry was indeed crossing a line and pushing harder than usual. Simply because he wanted the win, and he wanted to really showcase his skillset and his wonder, due to the fact that the Feds were keeping an eye on things and that too… was of concern. For no number of good deeds was going to fix that problem. Because they wanted their own win, and they were eager to have it post haste. Which prompted them to continue to work with Ramierz to get all the intelligence they could on Honey and the case at hand. To the point where they had Ramierz clone all the data about the case, and even bring shredded documents to them for re-assembly. Plus, they also started to interview witnesses and asked for facial identification of suspects and that happened to be problematic for certain. Because despite feeling as though time was being wasted, one witness was able to positively identify Harry’s face and actions on that night. Giving the FBI more than they bargained for. All of which spoke to trouble brewing for Harry and Honey, the kind that cannot be wiped away by burying oneself in work. Because the Feds are on the hunt, and that means this duo has to do more than sit and wait. Not to mention, Maddie does indeed need to seek out a little mental health care from the LAPD. Since she has to resolve that trauma if she wants to be the best cop out there, and well, kudos to this show… for recognizing this all and presenting it in a very compassionate and direct manner. To remind the audience of what it really takes to solve our problems and to teach our heroes that very same lesson and it will be interesting to see… how our heroes handle their newfound troubles as season two of this wondrous show continues along. Until next time. Watch ‘Bosch: Legacy’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 202 of ‘The Way Home’. To revisit the Season Two Premiere, click here.
When we last settled in to discuss the fascinating Hallmark Channel series, The Way Home, we talked at length about how the season two premiere, did an incredible job of setting the stage… for an epic year of commentary regarding what people can become when they don’t address the pain of their past and the trauma in their lives and perhaps… how everyone finds their way home from such pain. So that we can come away with some delightful lessons as these deeply wounded characters discover their peace at last. But before those lessons could truly begin, there was… a bit of a problem for Kat and Alice to deal with. In that, they were separated in various periods of time and Kat… was in serious trouble. The kind that left us worried for her well-being since she took a bullet. But thankfully, ‘Hanging by a Moment’ wasted little time in informing us, that Kat was being cared for and that she was on the mend in the year 1814 and well, once she came to… she made every effort to understand her surroundings and the situation. To better understand why she was dragged to this particular period in time. Which as it turned out, related to the fact that this year was now young Jacob’s home. Who was living with family and seemed happy and that brought about comfort for Kat. As though she had found some peace and that prompted her to escape, her current situation at the hands of the man who shot her, and thanks to another assist, she was able to return home. However, while she was dealing with that surprise, Alice found herself torn between two-time frames. For the Pond kept sending her back to the turn of the century. Wherein she came to realize that she was in the past to make amends with Elliot. Whom she did realize she hurt deeply through her actions, and she thought perhaps an apology would heal him and bring about peace in the present. Though sadly, none of that came to fruition. In fact, Elliot seemed more frustrated than ever in present day. But Alice did her part, and did her best, and let that sit a bit to deal with other problems in the Landry household. Such as the fact that Del was potentially going to lose the farm. Which in turn, prompted her to stick around and help where possible. All of which seemed to be… moments designed to set up the future. As though Kat and Alice could start working toward peace and working toward healing while helping Del. But in reality, this episode was nothing short of a brilliant hour-long metaphor. One that used all of those aforementioned moments to explore the central themes of this story. Since Kat’s journey more or less spoke to the fact, that it’s not enough to acknowledge the past, we have to confront it and our actions. Which is why she likely traveled back to 1814 once again… to make proper peace with what happened to Jacob. Not to mention, Elliot’s emotional explosion and fight with Kat made it clear that hollow forgiveness and burying down real feelings does not allow for us to move forward. Which means the only way anyone will find peace here… is to confront their pain, work it out and find real forgiveness. Which sets the stage for more big moments down the line. But before we ponder deeper upon that, we can celebrate one brilliant tale. One that truly surprised us with its smooth examinations of the subject matter at hand, while also offering up… one epic time travel adventure. One that did not romanticize it in the slightest, as so many other stories do, instead presenting the past as rough as it truly is. Even on an intimate level, and well, in the end, this episode deserves a round of applause. For offering up such engaging moments and for also letting us know that the core commentary will indeed be handled as healing is handled in real life. In manageable chunks, so that we know we are making progress at last. Until next time. Watch ‘The Way Home’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 403 of ‘True Detective’. To revisit the previous episode of ‘Night Country’, click here.
For the most part, crime dramas that focus upon small-town murders and the secrets that brought death to the doorstep of the general store, are often nothing more than grand tragedies. Where we learn through the investigation, how ignorance and a belief that ideology and the greater good, matter more than a singular life, can bring about this kind of disaster. Which is a formula that has stuck with the genre for ages on end, simply because it works. It reflects modern America and our attachments to old ideals, and it oft leads to some engaging and tragic cases that move us and shock us. But of course, in this era of television, classic formulas are meant to be toyed with to see what their true potential can offer us, and that is why this season of True Detective is of note. Simply because Night Country is taking that classic small-town murder format and pushing it to new and unsettling heights, as evidenced by this week’s episode. For the third chapter in this long and winding nightmare, put a magnificent twist upon that formula. After outright fooling us of course. Since this particular episode spent a great deal of time seemingly giving us what we are used to when it comes to this style of story. An understanding of what might have led to tragedy. For this particular tale spent a great deal of time exploring the past. Such as how Navarro and Danvers’ working relationship basically ended because someone crossed a line in the midst of a domestic violence call, giving rise to a cover-up, which appears to be par for the course in this town. After all, we also came to learn that Captain Hank Prior rolls to the beat of his own drum and has no qualms putting on a show to make it appear as though justice will be served in Ennis. Since he basically did little to catch Clark, he just created the illusion in question to try and quell unrest in a town that continued to gently move toward chaos.
Because we also saw tensions rise through and through, regarding the indigenous community and their desire for better conditions and wages for their families, and we also came to learn that there were people aware of Clark and Annie’s relationship back in the day, and that no one cared to comment on it, or even bother to offer up truth about other issues regarding this whole case. Such as how there were others that worked at the Tsalal facility. All of which spoke, to an old school formula run. One grounded in ugly secrets and an attempt to keep a status quo going to maintain a delicate peace in a town where that might not be possible. But that’s when this story took quite the turn and changed things up.
For while Danvers and Navarro were getting nowhere in speaking to that bonus Tsalal employee, Anders Lund woke up and that brought this duo to the hospital post haste, wherein… horrifying moments took place. The kind where Lund once again spoke to the awakening of something dark and sinister. Something that seemingly took hold of him to send Navarro a message when a strange outbreak of violence took hold. All before he passed into the beyond, and shortly after his passing, Peter Prior was able to showcase… a horrific surprise on Annie’s phone. One that showed her final moments, wherein she desperately begged for her story to live on after she ‘found’ something of note, something that may have dragged her away and killed her. Giving rise to the possibility that this town’s dark secrets aren’t just related to racism, but something far more sinister. As though there are people here trying to hide a dark secret about a dark entity. One that has claimed many lives throughout the years, of women it would seem. As to how that relates to that ancient symbol of Carcosa and Rust and Marty’s fight to understand it and neutralize beliefs in the Yellow King, has yet to be seen. But it would seem we are barreling toward a crossover for the ages and a horrific truth about Ennis. One that does not resemble tradition in this type of story in the slightest, and it should be interesting to see how all of this comes together through truth, as this incredible season continues along. Until next time. Watch ‘True Detective’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode Three of ‘Monsieur Spade’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
Often times in crime stories, when clues are made apparent, the story tends to kick into overdrive. For the investigator in the story, now has everything they need to really dive deeply into their case, and since they are intrepid and eager to serve justice, they will stop at nothing to close the case and find that justice and that brings about one intense race to the finish line. But that is why Sam Spade stories are so unique and so appealing. For they don’t always subscribe to that line of thinking, in fact… Sam Spade is a Private Investigator that likes to handle the case he’s dealing with in a meticulous and unorthodox manner, to properly have the facts in front of him and well, his special brand of investigation was put on display in the next episode of Monsieur Spade on AMC. That is, after the third chapter in this journey… spent a little time reflecting upon the past. Since we came to learn more about why Philippe wasn’t present in his daughter’s life. As it turned out, it wasn’t just the fact that he was neglectful, but his desire to see proof that she was in fact, his, offended everyone in the town. To the point where each and every citizen pulled together money to motivate Philippe to leave. A message that Sam delivered, that fell upon resistant ears. For Philippe did not believe that he would ever answer to anyone. A belief that Sam proved false by sending Philippe away for all times, and this was relevant simply because… it haunted Sam in present day. For if Philippe didn’t care enough to fight harder for his daughter’s worth… then what on Earth could motivate him to return home and risk his life? Well, that was for certain… the Boy. For Samir took him away from the desolate life he was living in the bowels of the club and brought him to friends and family. Who could in turn, feed the boy, whose name was Zayd, and of course… try to learn something about him. Which all they could ascertain was that he came from wealth. For his clothes were too fine and too lovely, and they also began to ponder upon the reality… that he might be a Messiah in the Muslim faith. For the circumstances that brought him to France, were too much to ignore, as was Zayd’s strange behavior. Wherein he consistently poured over numbers and stayed silent often. Leading everyone to lean toward spiritual possibilities while Sam… worked on getting some answers regarding all of this, in order to close the case.
In fact, he quickly came to realize that Zayd was important to a great deal of people in this case, especially when he had a chance to sit in on a sham of a meeting with the church. Whose officials offered nothing but disrespect and games with Michaud and Sam. Simply because they wanted to strongarm the duo into giving them something to work with. Something to help them find the boy. Which prompted Sam to offer up the right nugget at the right time, confirming that Zayd was their priority but not why, and well, Sam knew that the why was the key to solving this murder case. Which brought him back to Teresa who offered little and that meant, he needed to go to the source and speak with Philippe.
Which he was able to do, courtesy of some treachery. For Sam asked the town doctor to send out some bait and see if by chance said bait enticed Philippe to bite, and he most certainly did. Because a phone call came in, one requesting that Sam meet in the cemetery with a man that didn’t like him. Which prompted the return of some Sam Spade iconography and some other surprises. Specifically, that Philippe did not show up for the meeting in the slightest. Nor did he play fair, at least… one can assume he did not play fair. Because a no-show prompted Sam to rush home out of the belief that Teresa was about to be lifted from her bed and taken away, and Sam was indeed right. For invaders were in play and left us with a juicy cliffhanger, but not many answers. But that’s okay. Because the answers will indeed come forth, because Sam Spade always provide them, and while we wait to see what comes next following that brutal ending, we can celebrate, one amazing story. One that did exactly we’ve come to expect from this franchise. Wherein it wove a delicate web of important moments that related to the case, before having Sam gently ease his way toward answers. The kind that expanded the story for the viewer and raised the stakes for Sam. Providing this already engaging story with amazing tension, and deeper curiosity in that slow burn style that only a Sam Spade story can provide and truly, that is going to make the wait for next week’s story as difficult as it gets. Simply because we are now in the thick of it and ready for more answers from this magnificent series. Until next time. Watch ‘Monsieur Spade’
