Ask any sports fan what team was mired the most in chaos, and the hardcore ones will give you back the same answer, the 1990 New York Yankees. For that particular squad not only had a rough season all around, but off the field… things were ugly. For drama was everywhere and problems seemed to pop up all the time, and well, it was so infamous a season… that the time has come for it to be properly explored by the masses.

For Peacock will soon be home to a docuseries revolving around that rough Yankees team entitled, Bronx Zoo ’90: Crime, Chaos and Baseball, and well… it is looking to be the definitive examination of this wild and ugly season. Since it will harbor some incredible interviews and plenty of information from the beat writers of the day and to properly give us all an idea of how comprehensive it will be, Peacock was also kind enough to release a trailer and details regarding this series. Which we will share with you now as you prepare to learn about a sports team that in many ways, left America’s pastime with quite the black eye.

· Premiering May 16 on Peacock, Bronx Zoo ‘90: Crime, Chaos and Baseball details the tumultuous 1990 New York Yankees season through firsthand accounts of those closest to the team. The docuseries offers rare insight into the crossroads moment when the game’s most storied franchise began its ascent from despair to dynasty.

· The docuseries features interviews with former Yankees players including Don Mattingly, Steve Sax, Dave LaPoint, Kevin Maas, Jim Leyritz, Jesse Barfield, former Yankees manager Buck Showalter, Yankees' announcer Michael Kay, Brian Cashman and Bernie Williams; key sports journalists Joel Sherman, Suzyn Waldman and Len Berman; notorious gambler Howard Spira and more.

· Chastity Easterly speaks for the first time on camera about her experience with former Yankees outfielder Mel Hall. Hall also sits down for an exclusive interview for the first time from prison.

ABOUT BRONX ZOO ‘90: CRIME, CHAOS AND BASEBALL
Bronx Zoo ’90: Crime, Chaos and Baseball is the astonishing true story of the 1990 New York Yankees, chronicling the team at a crossroads in their storied history. The season went on record as one of the worst and was made even more infamous by the drama that ensued off the field. Based on a series of articles from New York Post columnist Joel Sherman, the docuseries covers team owner George Steinbrenner’s removal from baseball for trying to buy information on Dave Winfield from a notorious gambler. Adding to the chaos, beloved team captain Don Mattingly was caught in a contentious contract dispute, a top free agent signee went missing, rookie Deion Sanders wavered between two sports and a controversial outfielder pursued a relationship with a local high school girl. Despite it all, the 1990 Yankees laid the groundwork for one of the greatest dynasties in sports history.

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episodes 106 and 107 of ‘Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise’. To revisit the previous episodes, click here.

When we last settled in to discuss the fascinating new Freeform series, Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise, we talked at length about how the last block of episodes… showcased something quite surprising. In that, we saw so many in this series… do their best to put a stop to the drama either surrounding them or that they were directly involved in. Because that’s just something that isn’t commonplace in reality television in the slightest, and it made for some refreshing stories that made it seem as though drama free days were ahead. But alas, this week’s block of stories informed us, that drama will still find its way into our lives, if we don’t handle that which upsets us in the proper manner.

Which Caught in the Crossfire’ and ‘BDSM Gone Wrong’ explored… by having Courtney’s confrontation with Elizabeth, take quite the left turn. For while Court’s intentions were indeed noble in nature and in the spirit of what she saw happen around her, she didn’t approach it with the level head that was sent her way via Craig. Instead… she just decided to let her anger take the wheel and that led to a nasty and fruitless conversation. One that generated drama and fury over resolution and in the wake of such a mess, Courtney clearly didn’t find the peace she wanted and Elizabeth, began to ponder a move back to the United States to no longer deal with this kind of chaos and there were more mishandled moments such these as the episodes continued along.

In fact, the majority of them related to Chelsea. In large part because, her relationship with Tyson went south fast in this story. Because she took a moment to step back and look at her relationship with him objectively, and what she saw… she did not like. For she came to realize that Tyson really wasn’t doing that much to aid in building this relationship. He did the bare minimum and the motions and that prompted Chelsea to sit him down and confront him over his behavior and well, Tyson screwed this up something fierce. Because he had a genuine opportunity to reset here and express his feelings. But somewhere along the line he committed to toxic masculinity and put up the tough guy routine and that led to disaster. For he hurt Chelsea deeply and prompted her to end it and that… brought about more strife.

For in the midst of celebrations of love, involving Vic and his fiancé via a bachelor and bachelorette party, Chelsea crossed some lines. Because she was hurting here, and she took her pain and just projected it out into the world. To the point where she hurt Vic, hurt others around her and well, left the BDSM themed party in a huff and filled with anger and ache. All because, she had not reconciled her emotions either and did not use the party as an opportunity to escape from that for just a little bit. Instead, she just lashed out and projected and the end result was a rough night for certain, one that was apparently rough up north in Miami as well. Since that is where the boys partied hearty to send off Vic in style and uh… sadly… it would seem that Vic drank too much and did something incredibly stupid, creating more drama as well.

If anything, this episode was a fine example of how much of the drama we experience in life, is self-inflicted. Because so many invited it into their lives and into their hearts here and that is and was unfortunate. Because some careful words from Courtney could have brought about real resolution instead of revenge, and Tyson could have kept a good thing and Chelsea would not have exploded on everyone. But alas, what’s done is done and the lesson is perhaps more for us than them. Since now, everyone must reconcile what they’ve done, and it will be genuinely interesting to see how these fascinating individuals react to their mistakes and any troubles that lie ahead as season one of this dynamic and unique series continues along.

<![CDATA[‘Lopez vs Lopez’ Recap: ‘Lopez vs George’]]>Wed, 01 May 2024 19:41:10 GMThttps://nerdsthatgeek.com/television/lopez-vs-lopez-recap-lopez-vs-georgeWritten by John Edward Betancourt

Caution: This article contains spoilers for the Season Two Finale of ‘Lopez vs Lopez’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.

When we are working to improve ourselves, and improve our lives, through whatever means we deem necessary, there will come quite the important day… a day of reckoning. Wherein, we must face ourselves and our problems head on, and this… is one tough day. Because it exposes truths we didn’t think still existed, and it also teaches us… where we stand with those we love and those we call family and well, what makes this day so tough, is that it can go so many places. For instance, it can go poorly and help us to understand that perhaps we aren’t making the progress we thought we were making… and it can get worse from there.

Since we can also discover that those we hold near and dear are not who we thought they were and that can break our hearts. But we must go through this day, regardless of the consequence. For this is the day that determines if we stay on our current path or embrace real change and well, the day of reckoning is top of mind today, simply because George finally faced his own during the season two finale of Lopez vs Lopez on NBC. For ‘Lopez vs George’ picked up shortly after Rosie and George’s night together and well, after they reconciled the night and their feelings for one another, they were left with a choice. In that, they could let the family know what happened the night before and that the engagement was off… or perhaps… use the day to their advantage.

After all, they were fully aware that marriage was a possibility for Quinten and Mayan, and that perhaps… a little push in that direction might give them happiness and allow for mom and dad to drop their news gently and heal through the kids. Which was… a bit of a toxic move, one that went to the Nth degree for certain. Since both Mayan and Quinten were manipulated well in this story. To the point where Mayan thought about committing and where Quinten was ready to propose, at Rosie’s party no less. All because this duo gave into the toxic behaviors they knew well, the ones George thought that he left behind and oddly… it took Oscar to point that out and push George to confess to finally bring about the reckoning in question. For his honesty, brought the house down and prompted Mayan, to bring her therapist to the house.

Wherein everything was put on display and George came to realize… he had only done so much. For he had not fully accepted change and he also was very hard upon himself despite his progress. But he had to let the toxic nonsense go and embrace a new beginning and those words helped him deeply understand what lie ahead and oddly, his family faced some hard truths too. Since they were told to let go of their own anger regarding the past and to stop blaming George for their problems and to embrace their own new chapters. A reckoning that ended super happy, since no one stepped away, everyone embraced it and Mayan and Quinten declared their love for another through an engagement. But what mattered more here… is that George embraced this moment, and faced himself, and he owned up to his behaviors, and he came out the other side better for it.

Which is what we should want to accomplish when that day comes for us, regardless of what falls apart in doing so. Because we need to be better, we need to heal and improve and if people abandon us for wanting that, they were part of the problem. And now… George gets his real second chance and his family gets a beautiful new chapter and that… is a wonderful way to end a season of storytelling grounded in healing. Since everyone learned something and became better people before our eyes and that is why this series remains the most important show on television right now. Because it showcases real life in a powerful manner and hopefully, we get a third season and more of this show. So, we can see George and his family embrace their new chapter and second chance, and all the learning and wonder that accompanies that. Until next time.

<![CDATA[‘Lopez vs Lopez’ Recap: ‘Lopez vs Confessions’]]>Wed, 01 May 2024 18:42:14 GMThttps://nerdsthatgeek.com/television/lopez-vs-lopez-recap-lopez-vs-confessionsWritten by John Edward Betancourt

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 209 of ‘Lopez vs Lopez’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.

We face a bevy of difficult decisions in this life. Such as what career we should follow, what kind of person we should aspire to be, and so on and so forth. But of the many decisions we face in this life, there are few more difficult than the one that we will face several times over in our journey. For now, and again we will see a loved one, be trapped in a unique situation. Wherein a choice they are prepared to make willingly is going to bring them great harm. For that loved one has been duped in some form or fashion… and they genuinely believe they are making the right call… when we know otherwise and what makes this so difficult and so conflicting, relates to our emotional intelligence.

Because there comes a point where we understand that stepping in and being honest about what our loved one is facing, will bring forth a firestorm. One where we take some heat for our honesty, ugly heat in fact, until the dust settles and who knows when that will be. Because it just sadly, seems rude to step in and put someone on blast, despite the truth or good intentions. Especially when it is well known that the only way we learn is through failure. But it just hurts to see them hurt, so that’s why we think upon alerting them to the trouble at hand in a manner we hope is correct. If anything, this particular conundrum is top of mind today, simply because it was showcased in the next episode of Lopez vs Lopez on NBC. A feat that ‘Lopez vs Confessions’ accomplished, by having George make a shocking discovery.

For he was staying true to his word and was doing his best to support Rosie’s decision to marry Josué, by going so far as to hang out with her new fiancé and learn about his interests. Which as it turned out, was fooling around. Because Josué took some heat from a woman while he and George were out, the kind that spoke to a spurned heart and that put George in that tough spot. Because he didn’t want Rosie to hurt again, and he most certainly didn’t want to see her be cheated on again. So, he struggled regarding what to do, and decided that he needed to handle this and do right by Rosie. And the only way to do this right… was to snag proof that infidelity took place and that prompted him to take part in one wild plan. Wherein he sat in a confessional booth to hear everyone’s confessions… so he could record the truth from Josué. Giving him rock solid proof that Rosie needed to kick his culo to the curb.

But that… caused more harm than good. Since he was now tasked with keeping Quinten’s desire to marry Mayan a secret, and he heard some hard words from his daughter about his life choices and... he didn’t get the proof he wanted. Which made him look the fool, even though he firmly believed he was right. As though a cheater knew a cheater. But alas, taking heat for trying to do the right thing, and hearing some raw words from his daughter… combined with the emotional roller coaster he was on by discovering his feelings for Rosie… helped him fall off the wagon. A move that only sunk George further, until he learned… that he was right. For Rosie took his advice, did some digging, and learned Josué was nothing more than a cochino through and through, and she eventually apologized to George which led… to quite the morning surprise for them.

That aside however, because that’s something that will need to be unpacked in the season two finale, this really was… a great way to examine the central theme at hand. Because George really was stuck in a rock and a hard place over worries that were proven to be true. Since he knew Rosie well enough to know, she’d fight such truth tooth and nail. But he truly believed he could help, could do good… so he did. Maybe in the funniest and weirdest way possible, but he did it, and that’s the lesson. That if the concern is going to cause that much harm, speak up, be bold and support those we love. Because that’s what do for the people that matter, and that made for one meaningful and emotional episode. One that set the stage for an epic series finale as well. Because there will be more fallout from what George did here, and it will be interesting to see what lessons and growth await us when season two wraps up. Until next time.

Through outrageous scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become the richest, most titled and influential players the English court had ever seen, and the King’s most trusted advisors. And with England’s place on the world stage under threat from outside forces and rioters taking to the streets to denounce the King, the stakes could not have been higher.

Prepared to stop at nothing and armed with her ruthless political steel, Mary married her way up the ranks, bribed politicians, colluded with criminals and clawed her way into the heart of the Establishment, making it her own. “Mary & George” is a dangerously daring historical psychodrama about an outrageous mother and son who schemed, seduced and killed to conquer the court of England and the bed of King James I.

“BMF” recounts the inspiring true legends of two brothers Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory (Demetrius Flenory, Jr.) and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory (Da’Vinchi), who rose from the decaying streets of southwest Detroit in the late ‘80s and gave birth to one of the most influential crime families in the country known as the Black Mafia Family.

This season we parachute into the early ‘90s with Meech moving to Atlanta where Black excellence is prominent and Black businesses are thriving. Meech seeks to build upon the BMF empire in the south that he and Terry fostered in Detroit and rise to the top of the Atlanta drug scene. In Atlanta, he meets his new love interest, Angel (Kadianne Whyte), an exotic dancer. Terry remains in Detroit to take care of the business and his second child with girlfriend Lawanda (Sydney Mitchell), while juggling his ongoing affair with love interest Markisha (La La Anthony).

Yet, as Meech expands BMF outside of Detroit and new local competition comes after Terry, both brothers take on enemies more ruthless in their ways than they have ever seen who threaten to destroy the whole empire. For the most part, television shows and movies tend to stay away from parodies that lampoon the very industry they represent, and it makes sense as to why. After all, TV and movies are escapist in nature and creating something meta in that manner could alienate an audience easily. Not to mention, parody always runs the risk of becoming mean and no one wants to sit through that. But now and again, we do indeed see creatives take the time to fire a few shots across the bow of the industry and truth be told, when it is done right, it is quite impressive.

For the right kind of parody can not only make us laugh but teach us a great deal about the industry and some of its unfortunate quirks and proclivities. If anything, the unique nature, and the potential wonder of the Hollywood parody is top of mind today, because we need to take a moment to spotlight one that has managed to impress. For a few years back, Cooper’s Bar, debuted on AMC+, and this delightful series truly pondered upon some of the hard realities of the industry in a lighthearted manner. By having a dream come true for an actor that paid his dues, and battled doubt and fear in the most hilarious ways imaginable. The kind that truly lampooned some of the quirkiest aspects of Hollywood and featured the greatest wing-off in the history of the art form.

But while that made for a satisfying story, one that could have been a perfectly self-encapsulated story… we hoped for more of Cooper’s adventures. Because we wanted to see what would come of his show and what else the series could and would say about the somewhat wild nature of Hollywood and thankfully, we no longer have to wait. For season two this series is available now to watch and we need to talk about how amazing year two of Cooper’s adventures are. Mainly because, Cooper does indeed get to step into the studio life and make the show he’s been dying to make for ages, with his friends at his side to help write it and direct it and well, once Coop and his lads get past security, does this show do what it does best.

Because just like that, we are treated to some powerful parody regarding how some shows and films stray from their core, because of the wrong agents in place and a true lack of collaboration. Which prompts the viewer to wonder if what we are watching reflects how some stories ‘jump the shark’ or if this is why some new shows just seem… off. Granted, it takes that parody to the Nth degree in some spots, but that is welcome as well. Simply because it allows for the show to make us laugh. And the jokes most definitely work here, courtesy of the addition of some stellar guest stars. Including Whitney Cummings and the always enjoyable Patrick Fabian.

But what matters most, is that we do outright get more of this story. And we get to see what becomes of Cooper and his friends and they are given a new challenge to overcome in this story. All of which makes, for a delightful sophomore season of this incredible show. One that truly understands what it is about and uses that to provide us with one amazing ride. One that feels real because this cast knows how to sell the story, and the guest stars really do elevate the material and the best news of all, is that you can enjoy all of Cooper’s Bar as it currently stands, right now. Because both seasons are available to stream on AMC+, and we certainly hope you give them a look. For this is that rare parody show, that hits all the right notes and puts a smile on your face, courtesy of a story that all of us can relate to in some form or fashion. Until next time.

<![CDATA[‘American Rust: Broken Justice’ Recap – ‘Light Me Up’]]>Tue, 30 Apr 2024 20:49:42 GMThttps://nerdsthatgeek.com/television/american-rust-broken-justice-recap-light-me-upWritten by John Edward Betancourt

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 205 of ‘American Rust: Broken Justice’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.

One unfortunate truth we don’t like to discuss when it comes to new chapters in life, is that… they’re not always what we expect them to be. For they can in fact, take us in a vastly different direction than we expected to go, one that isn’t bad but is shocking in some regards. Or… they can turn out to be an outright failure and offer us strife we hoped to avoid. So perhaps… we keep those realities a secret to keep people from feeling fear or hesitation in starting over and going for that new chapter we desire. But we should in fact, speak of it… so people are ready when the surprises come, or they might struggle. As was the case in the next episode of American Rust: Broken Justice, on Prime Video.

For ‘Light Me Up’ saw many of the characters in this world struggle with issues they were not prepared for regarding their new chapters. In fact, it was really Grace that didn’t suffer in this tale. Since she was bold with Chief Park about his actions and even found a way to play nice (per Del’s advice), which gave her access to Steve’s plans, and she got paid. Giving her joy and agency at this point in time. But everyone else… dealt with hard times in their new chapters. For Billy still could not find peace or agency by pushing forward with his goal to become a marine. Since his PTSD continued to haunt him and hurt him and it pushed him to do ugly things to feel again and that led to some dark moments for him, the kind that have us wondering if Billy can and will find peace this season.

As for others, well, Lee obviously suffered by watching Billy hurt in this manner, and the fear surrounding her decision to help others, was strong. Because of the trouble it could create. But she saw it all as necessary to get truth out. Plus, poor Isaac dealt with the horrors of having his lover be in the closet and eager to hide his desire for Isaac. But of course, the real centerpiece of this theme, related to Del. Simply because… he was at a loss regarding what to do with his redemption case, next. For Vic disappeared, and with him… the recording lighter. Making it seem as though he had caught on, and was perhaps on the run and well, that meant Del couldn’t sit and sulk for too long, he needed answers.

Which once again brought forth trouble and concern regarding the bombing case. Because despite getting some intelligence and answers as to what was going on, Del was forced to step away to look into what happened to Vic, and that brought forth some surprises. Such as the fact that Fisher seemed to be checking on Vic’s affairs and hovering close by places that Del was taking the time to explore. All of which only added to the mystery of what happened to Vic. Which as it turned out… was the worst-case scenario. For Vic actually gave that bartender Grace’s number, and that was to get Del’s attention… so he could discover Vic’s body.

For Fisher did indeed do him in, and he even got hold of the recording device and opened it up, not to mention… things actually managed to get worse for Del from there. Since Angela tailed Del and discovered he was up to something unique, courtesy of an admission from Cynthia. Giving rise to a juicy cliffhanger and a story… that truly hammered home its point regarding new chapters. Since sometimes they bring out old traumas or lead us to the wrong people and the wrong places, and that’s life, and the only way we deal with them is to adapt and learn and do our best to come out of the other side stronger and unscathed, and it will be interesting to see how everyone handles that as season two of this engaging show continues along. Until next time.

<![CDATA[A Review of ‘The Tattooist of Auschwitz’]]>Tue, 30 Apr 2024 18:19:49 GMThttps://nerdsthatgeek.com/television/a-review-of-the-tattooist-of-auschwitzWritten by John Edward Betancourt

It has often been said that those who forget history are doomed to repeat it, and there is much merit to that particular lesson. Because time and time again, we’ve seen humanity in some form or fashion… repeat its mistakes. Which we believe happens because of the silliest of reasons. Since we lay blame upon our short-term memories or speak to how perhaps comfort and routine allows for concerns and worries about missteps to fade away. But truth be told, those are just excuses, and the reality of the matter is… that we repeat our mistakes for several reasons. One of which is the sheer fact that we do a rough job of imparting important history lessons upon the next generation, allowing for the gravity of history to fade and also because… we don’t stand up enough.

For sometimes those who wish to rewrite history or attempt to repeat the mistake at hand, receive far too much agency and far too much power, and there’s no collective call out demanding they sit down and shut up. All of which begs an important question… how then… do we keep ourselves from making the same mistakes twice? Well, for starters, we must be vigilant and stand tall when the foolish speak and point out that bravery accomplishes what silence cannot… and… we MUST find a way to impart the lessons at hand so they are not repeated and one way to do that, is through storytelling. The kind that is raw, visceral, and honest about why history cannot be repeated, and it just so happens… that Peacock is about to be home to a story that does just that.

For Thursday May 2, 2024, will see the debut of the limited series, The Tattooist of Auschwitz, a story that takes the time to reflect upon one of the worst atrocities ever committed in human history, the Holocaust. Wherein, six million Jewish people were exterminated by the Nazi Regime during World War II as part of one twisted man’s “final solution” to create the perfect race, and we want to take a moment today to discuss the importance of this series. One, that yes, tells an incredible story. For this tale, based on the book by Heather Morris, chronicles the life of one Lali Sokolov, through his memories, when he was a prisoner of the Nazi Regime in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, and where he spent a fair number of years in there… tattooing identification numbers on the arms of his fellow prisoners.

Which brings forth a fascinating bit of history for certain, and it also includes a bit of a love story to boot. Giving us a taste of hope in a bleak place amid a bleak time in history. But we won’t be getting into the details of the plot today, we will do that via our individual recaps of the show. No instead, it’s necessary to talk about why why you need to watch this series the instant it arrives. Simply because, this is a World War II/Concentration Camp story… that holds nothing back about what Lali experienced within the walls of this horrific and infamous death camp. For he is privy to great and stunning moments of suffering. The kind that showcases how horrific life was in these camps, and well… this is where the story is truly able to hammer home the importance of this moment in history and why it can never be repeated.

Because this series, showcases in great detail, how the Nazi Regime held life in little regard, and how that motivated soldiers in this camp to impart cruelty and wanton abuse upon human beings who deserved no such treatment, in a manner that will make you supremely uncomfortable. Because you will watch that suffering in real time, you will see hope drain from the eyes of the people present in this man-made hell. You will weep because of it, you will feel sick to your stomach, for indignity is everywhere in Auschwitz and that… is the point. Because this was a dark moment in our history, one that we have forgotten the gravity of, and we need to be reminded of that through honesty. To impart the lessons learned here upon the next generation.

All of which makes this a stunning series, one that is indeed chilling and devastating, but also timely and important. Since hate is on the rise and the voices are growing louder again, and hopefully this series, helps to make a difference in keeping such evil and outright nonsense at bay. Courtesy of a moving and powerful, and downright poignant tale that showcases the suffering and strife we are capable of imparting, but also how the human spirit cannot be broken, and what makes us worth saving, to teach us. To be better, to be more, and to share these stories and the lessons they send our way over and over and over again… so that this atrocity is never repeated… and so the voices are forever afraid to spew their poison and their hate.

<![CDATA[‘Parish’ Recap: ‘Kumba’]]>Mon, 29 Apr 2024 16:22:36 GMThttps://nerdsthatgeek.com/television/parish-recap-kumbaWritten by John Edward Betancourt

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode Five of ‘Parish’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.

Over the course of the past few weeks, the AMC series, Parish, has put forth a masterclass exploration regarding the dangers of not resolving the darkest parts of our past. For Gracián ‘Gray’ Parish is a broken man, one whose grief and sordid past, has outright overtaken him and pushed him to do foolish things, and well… we’ve seen the end result now of such poor choices and we’ve learned how important it is to sit down and resolve what haunts us, so we don’t go down this path. But while it has been outright fascinating to learn these lessons in a compelling and at times, nerve-wracking manner, this journey has left us curious as to whether or not two key moments would come to fruition. Specifically, whether or not Gray would ever actually take the time to face his pain in the slightest since he has done everything within his power to avoid it, and of course… what would come of his decision to defy Anton.

Since we have quickly come to learn that he is a powerful man with great reach and well, by bringing the consequences lesson to bear in last week’s episode, that freed up this week’s… to explore those critical moments. For we quickly to learn in ‘Kumba’, that little came from Gray’s decision. Instead, Anton was focused on antagonizing Shephered for the sake of amusement, really, because Anton knew he was going to come out on top in this matter. For he was working with Shepherd’s father, who handed the business over to Zenzo and demanded he come home. Which put the Horse into hiding and allowed for us to discover how deep this trafficking net was cast over the city and how horrifying a business it truly was. Since we watched hopeful and joyous immigrants from beyond, be duped into a life they never wanted, and they faced horrific consequences for speaking up.

All of which undoubtedly serves a purpose for this story since it does not waste a single second, but that’s as far as that exploration went for the time being, and with a better understanding at hand, we were able to catch up with Gray and his family… who were living in fear in this tale. Because despite Anton’s aloofness and concern elsewhere, Gray thought the man was coming for his family and coming for them quick. So, he made quite the ask of his family. In that, he tasked them with packing up their bags to prepare for a fresh start far from this city, and in order to properly make that happen… he needed to put the house in order to outright destroy it. All so, an insurance check would come into their hands. So, with Colin’s help the bodies were disposed of, and the insurance fraud was set, allowing for Gray to get his family out of there and finally… face his past.

In fact, the process of that began in the moments before he and his family left town. Since Gray took a moment to reflect upon every memory built in that place, be them good or bad, and once his family arrived at their destination for the night… did that all-important and long-awaited moment, come into play. Because Makayla and Rose wanted to know the truth at last, and the truth they did receive. For Gray finally opened up about his past, and explained how this moment came to be and well… that led to a messy evening in this godforsaken hotel room. For other truths came out, such as how Maddox was not the innocent soul that Gray thought he was and how complacency and concern about his parent’s love for him drove Maddox down a path similar to his father’s, and that left Gray in a tough and vulnerable place mentally. For he blamed himself for his son’s death, especially because of how their goodbye moment went down and well, the Horse used that to his advantage from afar.

Because shortly before the Parish family left the homestead, the Horse had one of his lieutenants drop off a recording device. One that Gray opted to listen to, in the hopes of clearing his head with a distraction. But alas, that device offered the worst possible gift for Gray in that moment. In that, on that device was a confession. One that came from the man that killed young Maddox on that fateful night and well, that was more than enough to push Gray into a state of fury. Wherein he wanted to know exactly who this person was, so he could exact revenge upon him. Which in turn, pushed him to leave his family behind one more time… to confront the Horse and demand answers, and the Horse made it clear that he was happy to provide that information to Gray, at quite the price. One that undoubtedly may cost Gray his very soul. For to commit to revenge and unleash fury in the name of it, is a dark path that no man should go down… but can… when that pain is still fresh in his heart, and that is precisely where Gray is at the moment.

For while he did confront his past like we’ve been hoping for, he did forget to resolve it. For he did not find peace, he did not move on. He picked at the wrong wound and made it bleed and well… that means the season finale of this saga will absolutely focus upon whether or not Gray can resist the darkness and find peace. But while we wait to see that resolution, we can applaud one amazing tale. One that genuinely offered up some emotional moments, that kind that made us feel for Gray since now we know how much he is carrying in that tortured soul. Which is also a testament to Giancarlo Esposito’s acting skills… since he truly let loose here and sold the pain and sold the fury that Gray carries in his heart, and he properly set the stage for what will be one incredible finale. For there is no greater way to end the journey of a tortured soul, than through the resolution of the darkness within. Until next time.

<![CDATA[‘Predator v Prey’ Recap: ‘Cheetah’]]>Sun, 28 Apr 2024 19:41:20 GMThttps://nerdsthatgeek.com/television/predator-v-prey-recap-cheetahWritten by John Edward Betancourt

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode Two of ‘Predator v Prey’. To revisit the Series Premiere, click here.

When we last settled in to discuss the fascinating new BBC America series, Predator v Prey, we talked at length about the show’s revolutionary nature. For it wasn’t just a collage and collection of clips and anecdotes about how the predators of the world, hunt, and feed. Oh no, it was an incredible deep dive into the science behind the hunt. How there are careful calculations into what lions do to earn their title as King and Queens of the Jungle. Which brought forth some fascinating lessons and facts that so many of us likely knew nothing about, alongside some breathtaking moments that outright shocked and surprised us and left us wondering… what else could this series teach us?

Well as it turns out… this show is going to leave no stone unturned when it comes to the science behind how predators hunt, as evidenced by the next chapter in this tale. For last night’s episode focused squarely on the ‘Cheetah’ and opted to showcase elements in its life that we don’t think about all that often when it comes to the predators of the world. For instance, how they learn to hunt. Which may be attributed to a universal belief that instinct rules all in that instance and that’s fair and fine. After all, there is some measure of understanding and distinction between predator and prey in this life. But believe it or not, it goes far beyond that… in fact, this episode helped us to understand… a predator’s skill set is learned behavior.

For we spent time with a family of cheetahs in this tale, a matriarch and her three cubs and well… over the course of eighteen months, the film crew was able to watch in great detail… how the mother of this family, first went about feeding them to keep everyone strong and everyone thriving, so that the cubs could in fact… learn to hunt from mother. Because once they were old enough and ready to observe, they watched mother in action in great detail. How she stalked, how she moved, how she brought down prey that was bigger and stronger than her, and soon after… her cubs would practice such acts in play and eventually… the time came where they had to physically learn how to bring down prey in preparation for leaving the family unit and heading out onto their own.

Which led to some fascinating moments again, where we saw the mother carefully showcase to her children the art of hunting with a delicate care and well… her lessons paid off in spades. Since we were also privy to the moment when her male cubs enjoyed their first group kill after leaving home and where her daughter, brought forth her own solo kill as well. Bringing about an amazing coda that truly showcased how much learning goes into being a predator, and how such actions are passed down from generation to generation, something that we really don’t ever see on television or in documentaries and as mentioned before… don’t think about all that often.

But now we will. Because this episode showcased that delicate learning process, one that nature undoubtedly thrives upon in order to keep the natural order going. Courtesy of one stunning tale, one that yes, also featured more of the amazing science we found in the first story. Since we came to learn a lot about how the cheetah hunts in the moment and some of the physiological traits, they carry, that give them a grandiose advantage in the wild. But this episode really did up its game and go one step further and showcase so much more, and now we will definitely look at predators in a vastly differently light and truly, it will be fascinating to see what other lessons and revelations await us in the next chapter of this story. Until next time.
