Perhaps one of the hardest roles that exists in our modern society, is that of the parent. Simply because so much is expected of parents in this day and age. For they have to make sure there’s food on the table, clothes on everyone’s backs and that their children get a good education and learn life lessons while parents juggle their own lives and the jobs that both of them have. So, it stands to reason, that they will be stressed, tired and beat up often, and this is so much to ask of a person, that sometimes, parents stumble and fall. Wherein they can rebound from the mistakes they make… or pay the piper for them, all of which was explored during this week’s episode of Chicago Med on NBC. For ‘Acid Test’ saw two scenarios of parental struggles play out. One of which involved some scary stuff. Since a young man was brought in with a hideous gunshot wound. One that put his life on the line and had a lot of mystery surrounding it, and soon it became clear he came from a broken home. One filled with abuse and fear, and it was so strong and so bad, that his mother mistook her son for the real monster, his father, and in a moment of panic, shot her boy. Of course, dear old dad held power as a city councilman and of course, was eager to lay down the hammer on his now ex-wife for letting this happen. Which spoke to how parents can falter and make horrible mistakes that deserve to be punished when they do not course correct. Since this man relished in the darkness and thought it to be the only way, and thanks to Dr. Lenox, he finally paid the piper for his actions. But there was a brighter story revolving around this. For Dr. Asher dealt with a case involving a mother than held on too tightly. For she asked for some different language from Asher regarding human body parts in an effort to shelter her daughter from the world, and the poor girl was so nervous about her mother’s vice like grip on her life, that she kept her phone conversations a secret, and other actions too. Such as spending time with boys and going for a swim on a trip where she was just supposed to stay in her room and be the perfect daughter. In fact, that swim was of note, simply because it was the reason she ended up in the hospital. For this teenager was in the early stages of puberty and had just experienced her first menstrual cycle and she borrowed a tampon from a friend and did not know what to do beyond that point, and didn’t ask her mother for advice out of fear. So, it stayed in her body far too long and became septic thanks to the perfect storm from the pool. Thankfully, Asher was able to save her and get her back to where she needed to be, and that mother learned a valuable lesson in course correction to make sure her daughter had every chance to grow. All of which explored the difficulties and the sometimes horrors of parenting to a tee. Since parental pressures absolutely transformed that mom into a protective one and image and power made a monster out of that dad, and yet, this episode had so much more to explore. After all, there was humor to be found via Dr. Archer. Since he was slapped with an acid patch that sent him soaring, right as the hospital inspector arrived and made life hell for Goodwin. Yet, Archer’s cloud nine mentality helped to save the day and relax the situation so Gaffney would stay open. Plus, this episode also made sure to follow up with Dr. Ripley. Who tried his best to help his friend’s wife, with mixed and emotional results, and he and Asher broke up in this tale as well simply because Hannah came to realize… she could no longer go on this journey with Ripley. All of which made for a powerful tale. One that really did explore the tough aspects of parenting and how one can lose themselves for the worse within it. Along with a lovely follow-up regarding the closure of the other nearby hospital. Since that informed us how it happened and what kinds of criteria a hospital must follow to maintain orderly flow and standards, and it’s huge to see Mitch and Hannah split. Especially after all they’ve fought to achieve. But that can indeed happen, and at the very least, they took the time to really try and make this work, and it will be interesting to see what lie ahead for each of them. Not to mention, what lie ahead for Archer, now that he has the seal of approval from the state inspector on being a leader in a place where that created real conflict. Until next time. One the best benefits of tuning into television this time of year, is the sheer fact that shows from Wolf Entertainment are on the airwaves. For fall and winter are the seasons for the One Chicago Universe and the many Law & Order shows that we cannot get enough of. In fact, it’s a trifecta of them that we enjoy on a regular basis, but this fall and winter season have been slightly different when it comes to that. Simply because Law & Order: Organized Crime has been absent from the lineup. But not for worrisome reasons mind you.
For OC was shifted to Peacock shortly after its fourth season. A move that gives Wolf Entertainment an even stronger presence in the world of streaming, and it opens up a world of storytelling possibilities for the show as well. For now, the show can do anything it wants from a storytelling perspective and that might bring forth the darkest and boldest Law & Order season to date, and the best news of all, is that we don’t have to wait all that much longer to find out if that will be the case. First, that they maintain their high quality of standards, because we expect the best from television now and anything less is a real disappointment. But fans also worry about, whether or not their favorite show will be back for another season. Because there are no guarantees when it comes to that, and networks tend to understandably wait until a season is over to make the decision as to whether or not more episodes are on the way. But some shows, meet that quality standard on a level that is so great, that networks are now starting to renew them well in advance. To assuage those fears and let the fans just settle in and enjoy a new season of storytelling without any worries or concerns and recently, AMC Networks offered up that gift to the growing fan base of Dark Winds. For earlier this week they announced that the series is renewed for a fourth season mere days before its season three premiere and that’s just wonderful. Since it means this quality series will further explore this amazing era and these incredible characters, and here are all the details on this wondrous news, courtesy of AMC. ‘In advance of the series’ upcoming Season 3 premiere, AMC Networks announced that it has renewed the critically acclaimed and popular noir drama Dark Winds for a fourth season. The expanded, eight-episode, third season premieres March 9 on AMC and AMC+. Season 4 of Dark Winds, which will begin filming in Santa Fe, New Mexico in March, will also consist of eight, hour-long episodes. The new season will also see the directorial debut of series’ star and executive producer, Zahn McClarnon (The Son, Westworld, Fargo), and will debut exclusively on AMC and AMC+ in 2026. “When we greenlit the first season of Dark Winds, we saw the potential for an authentic and long-running franchise that could live alongside the worlds we were building around The Walking Dead and Anne Rice,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. “That is exactly what this cast and creative team delivered, and the fans have responded. It starts with Tony Hillerman’s unforgettable novels, cared for and attended to by a producing team that includes the likes of Robert Redford, George R. R. Martin, Chris Eyre and our showrunner John Wirth, and – at the center of everything – the truly extraordinary Zahn McClarnon and the entire cast. Fans have embraced this series on AMC/ AMC+ and made it a top 10 show on Netflix for a solid month last fall. There is so much great storytelling yet to come in these expanded third and fourth seasons.” “I’m looking forward to exploring and inhabiting the character of Joe Leaphorn once again in Season 4, and I’m excited to make my directorial debut on a show that means so much to me,” said executive producer and star Zahn McClarnon. "I’d like to send my gratitude and appreciation to Kristin Dolan, Dan McDermott, and all of the hard-working folks at AMC Networks for their support and commitment to Dark Winds. And of course, I’m most thrilled to be spending time with this wonderful cast and crew whom I have grown to love." Said executive producer and showrunner John Wirth (Hell on Wheels, Hap and Leonard): “Kristin Dolan, Dan McDermott, and everyone at AMC Networks have been so supportive of our little show. I know I speak for our superlative writers, extraordinary cast and dedicated crew when I say we are excited and energized by the opportunity to continue exploring and expanding the world of Dark Winds in a fourth season.” Starring McClarnon, Kiowa Gordon (The Red Road, Roswell, New Mexico), Jessica Matten (Rez Ball, Tribal, Burden of Truth) and Deanna Allison (Accused, Edge of America), Dark Winds follows Lt. Joe Leaphorn (McClarnon), Jim Chee (Gordon) and Bernadette Manuelito (Matten) of the Navajo Tribal Police solving mysteries on their reservation as it is besieged by increasingly violent crimes in the 1970s. Seasons 1 and 2, which have received perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes ratings, garnered immense popularity as the series soared onto Netflix’s Top 10 Chart and maintained its position over several weeks as a part of the AMC Collection which launched on Netflix in August 2024. Dark Winds Season 2 was also a top 10 cable drama for the 2023 broadcast season. The series’ gripping third season, featuring eight episodes, picks up six months after the events of Season 2 and follows Lt. Joe Leaphorn (McClarnon) and Jim Chee (Gordon) as they investigate the disappearance of two boys, with only an abandoned bicycle and blood-stained patch of ground left in their wake. Meanwhile, Bernadette Manuelito (Matten) attempts to settle into her new life 500 miles from home with the Border Patrol, but stumbles across a conspiracy involving human and drug smuggling with far-reaching implications. In the week leading up to the Season 3 premiere, from Monday, March 3 through Friday, March 7, AMC will feature catch-up airings of the first two seasons at midnight every night as part of a “Dark Winds After Dark” programming event. Viewers can catch up on the first two seasons of Dark Winds anytime on AMC+ and via the AMC Collection on Netflix. Additionally, the Season 3 premiere will debut at 9PM on Sunday, March 9 as a three-network roadblock across AMC, BBC AMERICA and SundanceTV, in addition to streaming on AMC+. Each season also sees a prominent roster of guest stars, which for Season 3 includes Jenna Elfman (Dharma & Greg, Fear the Walking Dead) as FBI Special Agent Sylvia Washington, Bruce Greenwood (The Fall of the House of Usher, The Resident) as Tom Spenser, Raoul Max Trujillo (Mayans M.C., Blue Beetle) as Budge, Tonantzin Carmelo (La Brea, The English) as Border Patrol Agent Eleanda Garza, Alex Meraz (The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Walking Dead) as Border Patrol Agent Ivan Muños, Terry Serpico (Law & Order SVU, Yellowstone) as Border Patrol Senior Chief Ed Henry, Derek Hinkey (American Primeval, Americana) as Shorty Bowlegs, Phil Burke (Hell on Wheels, Rabbit Hole) as Michael Halsey, and Christopher Heyerdahl (Under the Banner of Heaven, Hell on Wheels) as Dr Reynolds. This season also sees the return of guest star A Martinez (Longmire, Days of Our Lives) as Scarborough Police Department Acting Chief Gordo Sena and Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Picard, Bosch) as Rosemary Vines. Based on the iconic Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman, Dark Winds is created by Graham Roland (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Returned, Almost Human, Fringe). John Wirth (Hell on Wheels, Hap and Leonard) serves as showrunner. The series is executive produced by Roland, Wirth, McClarnon, Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, Chris Eyre, Tina Elmo, Jim Chory, Vince Gerardis and Anne Hillerman. Horror, since Servant was sublime and drew us in. Sci-Fi, since Foundation and For All Mankind are amazing stories… and Sports Comedies. Because let’s be honest, Ted Lasso, helped to push this network into the stratosphere and what’s fascinating, is that Apple TV+ hasn’t really touched upon that genre any further since the season three finale of Ted Lasso. But not for reasons that one might think. For it wasn’t done out of superstition or the belief that they couldn’t offer up another quality one. It has all boiled down to finding the right one to put on the network and well, it would seem the right one has arrived. For recently, Apple TV+ took the time to offer up a first look at its new golfing themed, sports comedy series, Stick. Which features Owen Wilson, and a dream cast really, and a story that should indeed leave us in stitches and offer up real heart. One particular act we all take part in, in this life, is worshipping celebrities, and it makes sense as to why. After all, they get to do some really amazing things in life. Sometimes, they’re just larger than life athletes that perform miracles in their sport and wow us, and we love that. Or they leave us in tears with their performances on the silver or small screen and we adore that. Not to mention, sometimes, they can move us with a single note thanks to their music and that too, is powerful, and prompts us… to just put them on a pedestal and treat them as though they can do no wrong and will never understand harm, for they are a gift from the universe. But there comes a point where we begin to realize, we need to stop that. Because while they do indeed do amazing things left and right and inspire us and bring us joy, celebrities in any capacity are just people. They sleep well and sleep poorly, like the rest of us, and put on pants and get their coffee just like anyone else and we should never put them on a pedestal because of that. Simply because, when we see them as people that harbor amazing talents, it makes their mistakes, and they will make them, a little easier to swallow and it helps us to see them in a better light. One that can be helpful, if by chance… your name is Dr. Ron and you notice that something is wrong when they come to play a charity gig at your hospital, as was the case during this week’s episode of St. Denis Medical on NBC. For ‘Some Famous Internet Guy’ saw the hospital preparing for a big show from internet sensation Colby Twill and, yes, once he stepped into the hospital, Dr. Ron noticed that Colby had a bump on his neck that might indicate the possibility of cancer, and he spoke to that and that brought about the debate in question. Because Joyce wanted Colby on stage to greet the masses and thrill them and get the hospital on the front page of the paper. But Dr. Ron was quick to point out, Colby was a person, first. And deserved to know whether he was healthy or if he had a long road ahead with an ailment. Which truly hammered home that simple and impactful lesson in a quick and equally as simple manner. Mainly so, the hilarious stuff could play out. Because without Colby on stage, the masses had to be entertained. So, Joyce had the staff basically put on a talent show, one that offered up a lot of mixed and weird results. After all, there was some off-color stand up from unexpected voices. Some whittling, and even a magic show from Matt. Who as it turned out, really could wow a crowd but could not work with them, which made it rough. And while that was happening, Alex’s daughter got to learn about what her mom actually does at work, and how good she is at it, since Joyce told Dr. Ron to just get Colby taken care of promptly, and to make that happen… the hospital would just foot the bill. So, he and Alex worked together to get every uninsured patient in the hospital taken care of. Because why not? Thankfully though, Colby received a clean bill of health and was able to take the stage for his adoring fans and perform his lovely songs about the wonder of the fart. But what matters more is that this episode wonderfully explored the mystique of celebrity and the importance of treating them like the people they are, all while making us laugh, and laugh hard. Because man, watching Dr. Ron and Alex just rip through patients to make sure they were put on the company tab, was the stuff of legend, as were the stage performances and that final, fart-tastic musical number. All of which just once again reminds us of how special and fun this show can be, courtesy of its ability to be thoughtful without ever compromising its hilarious foundations. Until next time. Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 311 of ‘Night Court’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
There is a part of our minds that firmly believes, there will come a point where our memories of lost family members will fade, and where their time with us will no longer have an impact upon our lives. Which is why we tend to fear losing them, and for a time, it does seem as though that’s the case. Where we don’t think about them, their wonderful face or the joy they bring. But the universe is a fickle place, and it somehow knows we need those little reminders of who they are, what they meant to us, and it sends us little gifts that fire up that spark once again. If anything, those surprise reminders are top of mind today, simply because Abby and Dan enjoyed one during this week’s episode of Night Court on NBC. A feat that ‘Abracadabra Alaka-Dan’ accomplished by way of a blast from Judge Harry Stone’s past. For while the team was going about their usual business in the courthouse, complete with a surprise return of Mr. Danielson (the man who suffers from tortoise nervosa), another surprise was in the cards. One that saw the courtroom filled with the mist and the wonder of magic and that meant… someone that Abby was not happy to see was in the courtroom. Specifically, Starla. The magician’s assistant who helped her father carry out his lovely act back in the day, and well, Abby immediately believed that she was up to no good. Because she blamed her inability to break into the big time on Abby’s arrival, and Harry’s desire to raise a daughter over chase fame. But she instead, dropped off a beautiful gift for Abby, a magic box that once belonged to her dad. Which Abby was happy to toy with and see if by chance it had something special within it, message wise, for her. But alas, an attempt to open it, with Dan’s help, locked them in, and the only way to get out… was to use Harry’s master book of spells. Which Starla thought was in the box, and she set this chaos up in order to get her hands upon those spells. To finally fulfill her destiny. But Abby had the book all along and wanted instead to get out of this mess without Starla ever knowing the location of that book and well, the solution to getting out, was a form of unity and well… that definitely was a fine reminder as to what Harry T. Stone stood for back in the day, and how he wanted to see people work together and be kind to one another, and that prompted Abby to allow Starla to borrow the book and brought forth some special moments for Abby and Dan. ![]()
Since they were wonderfully reminded of the majesty of Harry T. Stone. Of what a good man he was and all the greatness he stood for, and that truly did remind us, that those we love will never leave us. For they make a huge impact upon us, and others, and that allows for those little reminders to pop up. Which was a beautiful message, one that might have made this writer mist up, and others no doubt, for several reasons. In part because we’ve all experienced those moments of memory. But also, this is a franchise that is generational now, and for those of us who grew up as kids watching this and watching Harry Anderson exude that good, it was a fitting tribute to his work and a lovely reminder of why we love this series so. Since it just dives into outright beauty, when of course… it’s not making us bust up laughing.
Which happened here as well. Thanks to Wyatt’s journey. Because he was the only person in the courtroom that was not impressed by magic. In fact, he basically made it clear that he enjoyed living his life in the middle lane. Where you’re not going too slow or too fast, and well, the team didn’t care for that. For they understood that life is best when there’s something to ignite a spark within all of us, and that led to a grand, and utterly hilarious quest, to give Wyatt a special and exciting experience. Which failed miserably, that is until some drugs were involved. So, perhaps the lesson is sometimes… drugs fix everything? Either way, that made for an amazing sequence of events, one that let the cast shine and show off their comedic chops once again, and this all gave rise to one of season three’s finest episodes. Simply because this one had it all. Great humor, great jokes, a stellar guest cast. Since Mo Collins, a freakin’ comedy legend, simply stole every scene she was in as Starla. Plus, it was great to see Wesley Mann and his not-so-speedy ways back on the airwaves again. But most important of all, this episode was genuinely sentimental and genuinely beautiful. Because it was a lovely tribute to the original show, and a true tribute to Harry Anderson and his beloved character, Judge Harry T. Stone, and you cannot go wrong with a tribute that respectful and that dynamic and once again, we are left wanting more when all is said and done. For Night Court continues to impress us with its beautiful blend of off-the-wall comedy, sentimental musings on life, and tributes to what came before. Until next time. Watch ‘Night Court’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 215 of ‘The Irrational’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
It is definitely safe to say that negative moments, sour emotions and toxic behaviors, are key contributors as to why people can become incredibly irrational. In fact, that’s what we have seen play out often in the hit NBC series, The Irrational. Since we’ve seen life changing moments, alongside worries and romantic problems, push people in this series to do horrible, irrational things. All of which makes it seem that only bad deeds, and dark moments can make us irrational. But now and again, this series makes a point to remind us… that noble acts can have a similar impact. After all, it was a noble calling that put Alec in front of a train, and this week’s episode also looked at a situation that inspired irrational behavior. For ‘Conversation Games’ saw the return of Angelique into Kylie’s life, and we came to learn that her attempts to contact Kylie were driven by a bevy of motives. The obvious one involved apologizing and making right the rift that formed after that whole coding mess. But she was also trying to get in touch with Kylie for a truly unsettling concern. For Angelique had recently started working for a dynamic and admired man named Ben. Who was a rising star in the world and carried with him a dark rumor. For people were dying in the various places around the world where he traveled and that put some dark marks upon him. The kind that had people wondering if he was some kind of serial killer, and well… the manifesto that Angelique found in his files, only added to that concern. Which meant, Alec and Marisa had to get involved and they agreed that the quickest and easiest way to find out if Ben or any of his associates were taking part in murder… was to bring them in to take part in ‘tests’. Those were of course, designed to narrow down if Ben was a psychopath of sorts, and he agreed to the tests and saw right through them and played a delicate game of cat and mouse with Alec and his team. Sadly, that brought no answers. Simply because Ben really did it not make it clear one way or the other if he was guilty or not, and that prompted Alec to be irrational in a noble way. By agreeing to work with Marisa and Kylie to take part in a sting operation at a dinner party involving Ben’s inner circle. Wherein he could find a way to push out a confession from the true killer. But Alec wasn’t the only one who entered the Lion’s Den to try and uncover the truth and be a hero. For Simon tagged along, out of a real belief that more had to be done, that more could be done. A decision that Alec was not good with. For he saw it to be as irrational as his own decision. But both men stuck with it, and made wonders happen along the way. Simply because Simon was bold and used his ability to just blend in to find a potential victim, and that was enough for Alec, to go for broke and confront Ben. For he truly thought Ben was the guy, and he went for broke and confronted Ben about his actions and even pretended to be his friend to prove that Ben was a serial killer, and his gambit worked. For Ben confessed and went to jail, but not without a little bit of tension. Since communications between Alec and Marisa and Kylie, were down for a time, putting him in a very vulnerable place. But what mattered more is that this episode reminded us of the fact, that not all irrational actions are grounded in anger and a sense of righteousness. Which made for a very different kind of tale, one that informs us that sometimes irrationality favors the bold and wonders can come from it, for had Simon and Alec not done this, who knows how many people Ben could have killed. All of which gave life to an amazing episode. One that once again was told to us in a unique and refreshing manner. Wherein we were able to enjoy unique tension and amazing performances, and of course, this story reminded us… that this series can do it all and provide us with incredible stories that explore every little decision we make, and their genesis, in the most unique ways imaginable. Until next time. Watch ‘The Irrational’
