Written by John Edward Betancourt Over the course of the past few weeks, we’ve talked a lot about how Apple TV+ is making a grand push to pique everyone’s interest regarding their family programming. Since they’ve been announcing shows and releasing goodies for them left and right. But that doesn’t mean that Apple is strictly shifting to that kind of entertainment. For a studio/network/streamer that has an Academy Award and tons of Emmys under their belt, won’t neglect the programming that got them there in the first place, as evidenced by today’s Apple TV+ news. For earlier, the network unveiled a first-look at their upcoming 10-episode, action-thriller, Echo 3. A series created by Academy Award-winner Mark Boal which will star Luke Evans, and Michiel Huisman and Jessica Ann Collins and well… as you’re about to see, this is shaping up to be another epic from a network that keeps on delivering when it comes to amazing shows and stunning stories. So, without further ado, here are all the details on this fascinating new series, and some first look images courtesy of Apple TV+. ‘Apple today announced the premiere date and unveiled a first-look at “Echo 3,” the 10-episode action-thriller created by Academy Award-winner Mark Boal (“The Hurt Locker,” “Zero Dark Thirty”), and starring Luke Evans and Michiel Huisman alongside Jessica Ann Collins. Filmed in Colombia with English and Spanish dialogue, the Apple Original series produced by Keshet Studios will make its global debut with the first three episodes on Wednesday, November 23, followed by one new episode weekly every Friday through January 13, 2023. “Echo 3” is an action-packed thriller set in South America that follows Amber Chesborough (Collins), a brilliant young scientist who is the emotional heart of a small American family. When Amber goes missing along the Colombia-Venezuela border, her brother, Bambi (Evans), and her husband, Prince (Huisman) – two men with deep military experience and complicated pasts – struggle to find her in a layered personal drama, set against the explosive backdrop of a secret war. “Echo 3” also stars Martina Gusman as “Violetta," a prominent political columnist. The series features James Udom, Maria Del Rosario, Alejandro Furth, Juan Pablo Raba and special guest star, Bradley Whitford. “Echo 3” is also based on the award-winning series “When Heroes Fly,” created by Omri Givon, and inspired by the eponymous novel by Amir Gutfreund. “I’m honored to collaborate with the team at AppleTV+ who gave me the opportunity to make the series I wanted to make - one that feels big and purposeful and refuses to stay in any lane,” says Boal. "This is a black-ops thriller and tale of international intrigue, set in Colombia, a country I had known only from afar and immediately fell in love with.” "Echo 3” is produced for Apple TV+ by Keshet Studios, the US production arm of Keshet International. The series is showrun by Boal, who also serves as a director and executive producer alongside Keshet Studios’ Peter Traugott, Jason Horwitch, Omri Givon, Eitan Mansuri, Jonathan Doweck, Mark Sourian, Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman, and Karni Ziv. Pablo Trapero directed four episodes including the pilot and serves as an executive producer. “Echo 3” joins a growing offering of sweeping Apple Originals from award-winning global storytellers, including the soon-to-premiere “Shantaram,” starring Charlie Hunnam and based on Gregory David Robert’s best-selling novel; recently renewed global hit “Pachinko,” based on the acclaimed novel of the same name; international espionage thriller “Slow Horses,” starring Academy Award winner Gary Oldman; bilingual thriller series “Now and Then,” streaming now on Apple TV+; the second season of hit Spanish and English-language comedy series “Acapulco,” starring and executive produced by SAG-Award winner Eugenio Derbez; “Suspicion,” a high-paced thriller based on the award-winning series “False Flag”; and more. Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode Eight of ‘Bad Sisters’. To revisit the previous episode, clickhere.
If there’s one thing that crime stories have taught us time and time again, it would have to be to keep a cool and level head in all things illegal. Simply because the goal here is to commit the crime and never get caught and the only way to accomplish that is to never let ‘em see you sweat. Which is why the next episode of Bad Sisters on Apple TV+ is of note. Simply because ‘The Cold Truth’ is a story that defies that particular convention, largely because of the shocking discovery that Becka made last week in John Paul’s basement in the past. Because finding a frozen body meant that the Garvey Sisters were dealing with a killer of sorts, and a flashback more or less reinforced that, since John let his father die without lifting a finger to help. Which in turn, created a sense of urgency in putting him down, one where the ladies had to think of a smooth and quick plan to do so. But before we dig too deeply into this urgent plan, we do need to take a moment and discuss what happened in present day in this tale since it revealed some surprises. For John Paul’s body was exhumed at last, and once Becka found out through Matt’s phone… she let everyone know and well, the panic present there, spoke to the reality that the Garvey Sisters were indeed responsible for his death, and were now worried about being caught. Which was ironic panic for certain, since the body revealed nothing conclusive, leaving them in the clear from a baseline standpoint, but their collective conscience clearly took a hit. But while that left them free and clear in present day, the past was rife with urgency to bring down John Paul at last. Simply because Becka saw the freezer as the opportunity of a lifetime. After all, if he was down there every Friday night keeping an eye on his frozen dad, or Popsicle if you will, there was a chance that a little planning could allow for the door to be shut and locked behind him. And then… the temperature could be lowered so that he would freeze as well. Making it look like a momentary lapse of consciousness of some kind might have led to a freezing incident and the lack of evidence hinting at otherwise would leave the sisters free and clear of trouble. Which was… a solid plan, one that Eva just couldn’t get near and understandably so. For she was pretty rattled in this tale, since John Paul got the promotion, she was bucking for, and she wanted to be surrounded by peace and quiet and revisit this whole mess when she wasn’t overwhelmed. But seeing her in that shaken state, and seeing Ursula be badly rattled by John Paul’s desire to control her personal life… pushed Becka to the limit. And she created her own, urgent timetable to deal with John Paul and after putting his mother to sleep, she lay in wait to send him into the afterlife and well, we’ve finally seen the end of John Paul. For the door was indeed opened and Becka was able to trap him inside and lower that temp to freezing. Which would explain the inconclusive nature of the autopsy and well… that is a bold way to end this tale. Since it moves this story straight into the aftermath of John Paul’s end, and allows for it to focus on how Thomas and Matt will now recover, if at all from paying out a devastating policy they couldn’t prove as fraudulent and of course… how the Garvey Sisters will reconcile their actions and of course, if they are willing to pass the truth along to Grace when the dust has settled and the checks have cleared. Which means we are heading into undiscovered and bold territory with this tale, and that is par for the course for this series… since it loves to trailblaze and surprise, and it will be quite interesting to see, how the resolution of this moment plays out with only two episodes left in this magnificent and engaging season of storytelling. Until next time. Written by John Edward Betancourt Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 306 of ‘See’. To revisit the previous episode, click here. Over the course of its three-year run, the Apple TV+ series, See, has done a phenomenal job of providing its fans with fresh and original storytelling. For everything we’ve experienced emotionally on this journey through a harrowing future, really has broken ground and wowed us every step of the way, and even this final season has been quite unconventional in nature. Since the build-up here has been subtle, and we’ve even seen our heroes and our heavy tangle well before the final battle has even remotely started. But there are some traditional elements to ending a story that cannot be avoided, and at long last… this series finally treaded into some familiar territory. But not before keeping things fresh and wild. For ‘The Lowlands’ is a story that saw Queen Maghra Kane lose her entire council to the resurgent Witchfinders, and she went to some dark places because of that. Since such a move on her sister’s part taught her, she had to respond in kind, and she most certainly did. With swift brutality that we’ve never seen from her before and that wasn’t the only unique moment present in this story. For a voyage through the lowlands of Pennsa, brought forth a horrifying surprise and horror movie tribute. For Baba Voss and his friends and family, ran into some cannibals along the way, which forced everyone to switch tactics to save Lord Harlan and Haniwa, who were slated to become the next meal of these savages. But since this series is set in Pennsylvania, in the area surrounding Pittsburgh, this writer couldn’t help but notice that having cannibals referred to as ‘Flesh Eaters’ in Pittsburgh… was nothing short of a grand tribute to George A. Romero. Whose flesh-eating zombies took the world by storm in movies that he filmed in Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas, and this was a cool little shout out, one that eventually led to the first real traditional moment in this incredible sequence, a major character death. For final seasons are well known for bidding farewell to beloved characters and unfortunately, Lord Harland met his end here trying to keep Haniwa safe. Giving him a noble departure whilst bringing a tear to our eyes, since he found redemption and true heroism in his final moments. However, that wasn’t the only traditional final season moment present in this tale. For while all of that was happening, Sibeth was doing her best to reclaim agency and her throne, by making a proverbial deal with the devil. For she had her new army stop the Trivantian one in its tracks, so she could capture Tormada and demand his loyalty to her crown. With a sweetener of course. In that, he could become her King and they together could build a new kingdom ruled by fear through explosives… after they leveled Pennsa and Paya into nothingness of course. Which was a deal that ‘King’ Tormada was happy to accept and well, it is common practice in a final season to see evil combine their powers, to raise the stakes like never before. Yet, while one might lament having elements that are familiar present in such an original story, it works here. Because a showdown must take place and evil has to be dealt with since Tormada and Sibeth have hung heavy over this story for a long time now. So, what better way to than to prepare us for a grand final battle than sticking with the basics? Plus, there were plenty of original moments to balance everything out. But what matters more, is that the stage is set for one final showdown between the forces of good and the agents of evil and with two episodes to go in the series, it will be interesting to see how that grand showdown comes together and who will win the day when this saga, comes to its close. Until next time. As an added bonus, Apple TV+ was kind enough to provide NTG with an Exclusive Clip from this week’s episode for all of you to enjoy! Written by John Edward Betancourt
Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 206 of ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
There are a great many reasons as to why fans of the Paramount+ series, Star Trek: Lower Decks, tune in. For some, it is the sheer fact that we are being treated to more of our favorite franchise, in a segment of the timeline that no one knows anything about. For others, it’s the comedy that keeps them coming back since the jokes come fast and furious in this show. But regardless of which reason you tune in for, there’s one that all of us share in. Specifically, the fact that this show knows how to properly pay tribute to the franchise as a whole, through wondrous cameos and adventures that remind us of the wonder of his long-standing saga, and well, the homage aspect of this series is top of mind today, simply because it was on full display during this week’s episode. A feat that ‘Hear All, Trust Nothing’ accomplished, by taking the intrepid crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos…. to FREAKIN’ DEEP SPACE NINE! Yes, that’s right! The iconic space station that brought serialized storytelling to the Star Trek Universe and blew us away with bold and brave storylines, finally returned to the canon mix. And that meant, we got some epic cameos. For Nana Visitor reprised her role as Colonel Kira Nerys and Armin Shimerman returned as Quark and we finally got to see the station post ‘What You Leave Behind’ and learn that the station was in great hands with Kira at the helm and that Quark managed to strike it rich with franchises by way of a fancy new replicator that just enhanced drinks in a way that no other replicator could. But while it was indeed amazing to see this iconic station and have one’s younger, inner geek soar with joy… there were shenanigans to be had in this tale. After all, Captain Freeman and her crew were there to try and re-open trade with Karemma, in the hopes of reopening more lines of communication with the Gamma Quadrant to heal the wounds of the Dominion War. Which did not go well, mainly because Quark stole technology from the Karemma. Forcing Tendi and Rutherford to work hard to save the day once Quark was kidnapped. And they did because they’re awesome and because Tendi has Orion Pirate skills we weren’t aware of, and oddly enough… her ability to use those skills for good, and Mariner’s storyline… brought forth some deeper moments.
Because Tendi was struggling greatly with her past in this tale, mainly because she and Ruthy ran into a fellow Orion Ensign who was very proud of the pirate heritage of his people, and he kept pushing and pushing for Tendi to sing songs and praises of such matters, and she simply did not want to in the slightest and resisted her pirate heritage for as long as possible. All while Mariner spent the day with Jennifer and her friends, in an effort to try and bolster their relationship and that was a struggle as well. Since she was trying hard to please Jennifer and be chill at the ‘Salon’ gathering she was invited to, even though Jen’s friends were just pushing her around left and right. Which of course, led a to a moment where they were forced to shed their respective façade and let loose.
Which allowed for Pirate Tendi to save the day and for Mariner to take control and teach those uppity gals a lesson with the stun setting of a phaser. A pair of moments that were designed to teach us all an important lesson. In that, we should never hide from who we are or where we’ve been. Because we are who we are and the past is the past and trying to hide from that… just creates problems and frustrations and when we do embrace our inner self instead, wonders come forth. Since we might just save the day or get to blast annoying people with a phaser. Which was a wonderful and impactful lesson to find here and that made for one fulfilling tale when all is said and done, one that also saw Bold Boimler return and nearly break the Dabo bank on DS9. But what mattered most, was that this was a rich tribute to a respect and beloved corner of the Star Trek Universe. Since Deep Space Nine’s legacy has aged as well as a fine bottle of Chateau Picard, and it was just wonderful to see that series get the respect it is due and of course… to finally catch up with the station. Not to mention, that little nod to Kira and Captain Benjamin Sisko’s working relationship was just beautiful, and it spoke volumes to Kira’s long and winding journey, and well, this one is going to go down as one of the show’s best episodes for certain… and it leaves us eager to see what other tributes and beautiful moments are going to await us this season and beyond. Simply because these wondrous shout outs really capture the magic of Trek and remind us why we fell in love with this franchise in the first place, and you can never go wrong with that particular type of nostalgia. Until next time. Written by Zeke Perez Jr.
Caution: This article contains spoilers for the season two premiere of ‘The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers’.
“The Quack Attack is back, Jack!” Season two of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers on Disney+ kicked off with a change of scenery, several doses of nostalgia, and new challenges on and off the ice for our ragtag group of hockey underdogs. When we last left the team formerly known as the “Don’t Bothers”, they had just ended their Cinderella run to the state finals in unfortunate fashion, forfeiting the championship matchup against the rival Ducks due to an injured and incomplete roster. The two teams decided to settle the score in an unofficial game, with a couple of big wagers on the line. If the Ducks won, the Don’t Bothers would leave the league. If the Don’t Bothers won, they would get to claim the iconic Mighty Ducks moniker as their own. The Don’t Bothers donned original Ducks jerseys from Coach Bombay and rallied with a Flying V to steal a win and the name. The new Ducks storm into the premiere on the high of their big victory, rollerblading together in the green, yellow, and purple Ducks sweaters in a nice shot calling back to the original movies. Then comes the curveball (or knucklepuck): the Ice Palace has been condemned. Although Coach Bombay has hired the Bash Brothers to repair the arena (making for a fun cameo), the Ducks are without home ice for the summer. Luckily, they’ve been invited to attend the Elite Performance Ice Center (EPIC) hockey camp in Los Angeles. Team mom Alex (Lauren Graham) road trips with the team to EPIC, a camp run by Coach Colin Cole (Josh Duhamel), a former-NHL vet who started the camp to “create the future of the sport that [he loves].” While seemingly sincere, Coach Cole runs an intense camp, seeking to push the best and brightest hockey players to the next level. While maybe not yet reaching Coach Reilly levels of intensity, Coach Cole certainly prioritizes talent over team play and expects each player to chase greatness. While his drills are made to pull out the best individual hockey players, the Ducks fly together and outperform the other campers.
However, all is not as well as it seems. It turns out that the name change led to a mix-up with invitations. Coach Cole intended to invite the other Ducks team and doubts that the new Ducks have the talent and willpower to match his philosophy, so he tries to pressure them to leave. While some Ducks enjoy the camp and find that they like being pushed, others are feeling the toll early. While Evan (Brady Noon) tries to rally the team to embrace the underdog role and stick things out, Nick (Maxwell Simkins) wants the group to step away. Coach Cole clashes with his own son, Jace (Naveen Paddock), who then tries to convince Nick that leaving was the right idea. The fissures in the ice threaten to crumble the new Ducks.
One of the biggest changes in season two is the loss of Coach Bombay, as Emilio Estevez departed from the franchise in between seasons. The absence of the original lead from the 90’s films is noticeable but is written well in this new Game Changers universe. Graham and Duhamel rise to the occasion, as do the young cast members. The show and the franchise are in great hands with this group at the helm. As it was in season one, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers is a wholesome, fun, and heartfelt series. It builds well on the legacy of the original films, bringing to life a loveable and diverse cast of characters that you can’t root against. The Easter eggs, cameos, and pure nostalgia sprinkled throughout the show are more than enough to spark joy in your inner child. This new season of Game Changers promises to deliver something that both new fans and those of us who grew up in love with the original films will be proud of. New episodes of ‘The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers’ air each Wednesday on Disney+. Written by John Edward Betancourt

This is a spoiler-free recap of Episode Six of ‘Pantheon’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
It’s been a little while since we’ve talked about deeper themes and concepts regarding the human condition in association with the AMC+ series, Pantheon, and rightfully so. Simply because this series took a slight step back from such matters to properly world-build and help us to understand the digital afterlife and its benefits and detractions for Laurie and David now that they are firmly settled within that world, and of course… to also drop some major surprises in our laps. Since few of us ever saw that particular twist involving Caspian coming in the slightest. But… now that we’ve indulged in some understanding and surprise… the writers’ room decided it was high time to return to an examination of the human condition. For ‘You Must Be Caspian’ is a story that takes the time to ponder upon our thoughts regarding destiny, and how some of us believe it is something we control while others believe it is foretold and why each side holds to that, and it accomplished this feat, by bringing Caspian to Maddie’s home. For they reconnected in his time of need and well, being in a quiet space where he could learn about himself… is what started the exploration in question. Because the gravity of seeing what his life was scripted to be, put Caspian in a sour and broken place. Since he grew up thinking the sky was the limit and life was his choosing and well… he’s the person that pondered upon the nature of destiny and how there’s no way it is something that can be controlled. Because despite the best efforts of Logorhythms to assert control, it did dawn upon him, that he broke free of his supposed destiny and was on his own now, and that spoke volumes to how our choices and their benefits and consequences do indeed define us. Because he was free from a fate that wasn’t of his choosing and could forge his own path and use his mind as he saw fit. Which he did do here and well, this was indeed a fascinating sequence, one that really helped us to understand why destiny is a concept that offends so many. Since truly, what we do today in stance of tomorrow, produces wonders for us and the thought of just handing off our future to the moment or chance is disgusting to our minds and seems unfathomable to even embrace… but the show was quick to explain why people do so. Since David and Laurie finally came face to face with Chanda… who revealed what he has been doing all this time alone in his own server and how he saw this strange circumstance… as the opposite of Caspian’s view. For he truly believed that he was given his intellect as a gift from the universe, all because he was preordained to fulfill a purpose and a destiny. One that motivated him to make some bold and scary choices in this tale, the kind that once again surprised at the end of this story. But what matters more, is how Chanda’s journey spoke volumes to the fact that when some people are in a tough spot, sometimes they think it is destiny to cope, and they soon embrace that line of thinking to heal and guide them, and there really are a great deal of people that side with this. Because they are desperate for meaning and direction. Which more or less made it clear… that destiny isn’t something that we can truly rely upon as a concept to guide humanity. Since such thoughts are reckless and inflated, as evidenced by that devastating ending. But what matters more is that this episode once again leaned hard into social commentary and did so in a supremely brilliant and thoughtful manner. The kind that definitely challenges the viewer’s thoughts on destiny while once again questioning the power of technology and its role in our lives and well, it would seem that this story is only to dig deeper on such matters, thanks to Chanda’s stupid and reckless decision. One that is going to change the world likely for the worse since little thought went into the consequences of his actions. All in the name of divine destiny. Until next time. Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode Four of ‘Andor’. To revisit the series premiere, click here.
When we last settled into discuss the fascinating Disney+ series, Andor, we talked at length about how the series premiere was unlike any other in the Star Wars Universe. For not only was there little mention of anyone named Skywalker, but the show really took its time in telling its tale and also worked to world-build and show us life under the rule of the Galactic Empire. Which made for a bleak and powerful set of tales, the kind that made it clear that this was going to be a gritty and grown-up Star Wars adventure. One that was going to leave no stone unturned regarding a solid exploration of this era in the franchise’s rich history and that is a reality that was reinforced during this week’s tale. for ‘Aldhani’ is a story that once again informed us further of the Empire’s reach and how it handles its business and what it does when failure comes into play. For we were privy to a first-ever look inside Imperial Security and came to learn how they monitored the galaxy and the emperor’s subjects and well, the incident at Ferrix came up and that kind of unrest and trouble… brought the swift hammer of Imperial justice down quickly. For that sector was quickly put under Imperial authority, rendering any corporate interests moot and sending Syril Karn into his own little embarrassing exile. Where he was forced to become a citizen as well and learn what it means to be humble since he was stripped of everything. But what was fascinating about this episode, is that it offered more examinations about life in this tense period in this galaxy’s history, for it also took the time to explore what life is like, as a member of the Rebel Alliance in its early days. A feat that it accomplished by taking us into the day-to-day life of one Senator Mon Mothma, who at this point in her journey, was doing her best to fund the Alliance from afar and of course, balance her duties as a Senator, and that was no easy task. For the Emperor had spies everywhere and did his best to keep an eye upon the senate and its members often, giving rise to a fascinating look at how no one was safe in the Galactic Empire and how those who wished to resist had to do their best to fly under the radar of an insane Sith Lord, and be creative in fighting against him. However, that wasn’t the only behind the scenes look at life for those who wished to fight for the cause. For Luthen was able to talk Cassian into going undercover with a Rebel cell on a far-away world. One that featured a lowly base that was lightly guarded where information could be easily stolen. Which meant he had to embed himself with other rebels who were… untrusting of him, and rightfully so. After all, when you can trust no one, who can you trust? But despite the resistance he received, he was let into the group and tasked with learning the plan post haste since a strike was near, and it was equally as fascinating to see how future heroes were terrified of the fight ahead, since they knew the risk and the reach of the emperor and it was also amazing, to see the rebels do something quite unexpected. For there was a moment at the end of this tale, where Cassian was suddenly something more to the Rebel Alliance, a hope of sorts. Since everyone looked at him with an expectation that perhaps he could provide a spark on this mission, and do something that would inspire, as though they’ve been waiting for people that can do just that, and he might. But alas, we will have to until next week to find out… for that is indeed where this quality and fascinating tale ended. One that once again helped to sink us into this fascinating world and truly, this slow burn approach is wonderful and is letting us savor every fresh moment and truly, it will be fascinating to see what next week has in store for us in a galaxy, far, far away… since this series just continues to surprise and offer up a Star Wars story unlike any other. Until then. Please enjoy this Sneak Peek of Episode 306 of See, which debuts on Apple TV+ tomorrow (9/30/22). Written by John Edward Betancourt
The classics are stories we revisit often in life, simply because… they did a lot of things right. For they are simply timeless in nature and feature themes and characters that are relatable today, and their engaging stories still captivate, and that compels us to pick them up again or share them with people that have yet to be initiated to our favorites, to keep those stories alive and to impart the wonder of them upon others. But what’s truly fascinating about the classics, is how much they have to offer creative minds years after their release. For they are so layered and so detailed that they can be easily reimagined on say the silver or small screen… or… those same minds can find new ways of telling such stories that others didn’t think about before.
Such as what made iconic characters into the people they are when we find them in the story in question. Since that brings about all kinds of fascinating formative moments and growth that only adds to the depth of those characters and the story, we met them in, and it just so happens, that STARZ is about to be home to a series in that vein. For Dangerous Liaisons will premiere on the network on November 6, 2022, and this is a story that examines the time before the iconic story itself and to build a little excitement for the release of this unique story, STARZ was kind enough to release some details, a trailer and some key art for the series, which we are happy to share with all of you, so you too can see how unique and engaging this fresh take on a timeless classic is going to be. ‘STARZ released today the trailer and key art for “Dangerous Liaisons,” the seductive new drama featuring the iconic literary lovers, the Marquise de Merteuil (played by Alice Englert) and the Vicomte de Valmont (played by Nicholas Denton).
