I figured a second part of this was due, simply because I didn't get to cover all the shows I watch in the last blog. Plus, with most show's coming back this week, it's back to normal! Which is awesome, but also a downside…. All our good geeky shows shouldn't have a downside, and generally it doesn't really. But, unfortunately, it does make me choose between one of my favorite geek shows, and one of my guilty pleasures. Arrow comes on at 8pm Wednesday nights….and so does Modern Family. Now, I have been addicted to Modern Family since they aired their very first episode. This is one of the funniest shows I have ever had the pleasure of watching. Now, it's not nerdy, but it has it's moments. I've actually gotten Mattie to watch some episodes of the show with me, and she's admitted, it's awesome. The show centers around three families that are related to one another. You have Claire and her husband Phil with their three children, Haley, Alex, and Luke. Claire's brother Mitchell and his fiancé Cameron and their adopted daughter Lilly, and then you have Mitchell and Claire's dad, Jay, with his new wife Gloria and her son Manny and their new baby Joe. Dysfunctional? Kinda. Not gonna lie, this show has its awkward, dysfunctional moments. But! It is an amazing show about family, and the trials and tribulations that happen. Mitchell and Cameron, for instance, are a gay couple. Throughout the seasons we've gotten to see a family adjust to that, to the addition of an adopted member, and to the great news of legalized gay marriage (yay equality!). We also get to deal with a father having married a younger woman and all that family drama that comes along with it. In the end, though, they are a loving, caring, family. That, despite everything that happens, are always there for one another. It's pure comedy with heart warming moments. Fantastic show to watch. I highly recommend giving it a try! Next up, is an old favorite of mine. I watched this show when it first aired, and saw it through until the last episode. Many of you may remember the show Friends. Well, it's not back, but it has been showed on a lot of channels lately. So, guess who's been catching all those reruns!? For me, this is a blast of nostalgia. I was 8 when the first episode aired and I 18 when the credits rolled for the last time. The memories I have about this show make watching it even better. Growing up, Friends was on at 7pm on Thursday nights. My parents, (and eventually my little sister) would either make pizza, or calzones, or pick them up…we'd gather around the TV and watch the show, while eating. It was fantastic family time. Plus, Chandler is forever my favorite character! (I hate Ross…) Great show though. It made me want to move to New York (because who doesn't secretly want to move to New York?!) My slightly nerdy guilty pleasure is something that comes from the great creator of Family Guy….Seth McFarlane. American Dad is more than just funny and amusing. American Dad is totally my family. First, you have Stan, which is a (slightly) stupider version of my Dad. Which makes my mom Francine (it's so true….love you mom!). My little sister is Steve and that makes me Haley. But wait, there's more. My family has kind of adopted Mattie, who is a strange cross between Claus and Rodger. It sounds crazy, trust me, I know. This show, is the spitting image of my family. It's like someone snuck in, took character profiles, and vanished. Also! Totally met the voice actor for Claus! He signed 'Jello-shots' as a part of my autograph. Which John Barrowman also did…so I think I now have to see who many celebrities I can get to sign that for me! What about you guys? Favorite non-nerdy-show? We all have that one show that we like to watch (Mattie's is Reign!) that's not always…liked by our friends.

My guilty T.V. pleasures. That sounds dirty, doesn't it? I know. I giggled too. It's not what it sounds like though! I thought it'd be fun to write about what I've been watching while all the awesome nerd shows are on break! And well, honestly, sometimes when the nerd shows are on. Listen! We all have our guilty pleasures, right? Some of us just like a bit more…interesting show. By interesting I'm obligated to share that I really mean trashy drama's and random other shows. Also, I've gotten that cold/flu thing that's been going around, so I've had a lot of time to catch up on some of these shows. Also, how bad is this cold thing though? Week later and I am still coughing up a lung! Don't get this thing you guys! But back to television. What am I watching right now!? Well, as I sit here writing this I'm watching a show on TLC called Extreme Cheapskates. Yes, Mattie is sitting with me and she is watching and the reactions are the most magical things I have ever seen, heard, and witnessed. Yes, this show is kind of gross, so I have to give her that. A lot of the people on this show go out of there way to save money in the most extreme ways possible. Like dumpster diving for food….furniture….an entire nursery worth of stuff….Mostly a lot of food. And, well, some more gross stuff. But! It's fun to watch, and mind of awesome since it lacks actual plot! Win for my sluggish brain! My Strange Addiction (also on TLC….which is the same place Honey Boo Boo is on. Don't worry, I don't watch that one.) is another fun one. It's mostly the strange things people eat…like mattresses. Though, the one I caught earlier was about plastic surgery. It's a pretty decent show. I prefer Doomsday Preppers on Nat Geo. I. Love. That. Show. But! (Always a but) That show makes me paranoid and makes me want to start prepping for the Zombie Apocalypse. Oddly, all the reason's and things these people prep for are Zombie free. Which, come on! It's a show about paranoid people prepping for world ending disasters and nobody is preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse!? How does that even work man!? Bring on the Zombies! With all the brain parasites that are out there nowadays, the Zombie Apocalypse could theoretically happen at any moment. I'm just saying. But when I'm not watching any of those I can be found in front of the TV watching the Real Housewives of Atlanta…or Beverly Hills. Or Vanderpump Rules! Or Courtney Loves Dallas. Yeah, okay, look, I'll watch almost any show that's on Bravo. It's pointless, fun, drama and I love every minute of it. I'm also a fan of Family Guy, but I'm not current on it. Cleveland Show, and all reruns of Futurama or The Simpsons are also great shows. But…my ultimate go-to-guilty pleasure has to be science stuff. Documentary on planets? Yes. A thousand times yes. How about anything about dinosaurs? Hours. I will be lost on this for hours. Now, it's not a well known fact, but I am a full blown science nerd. I love learning about new amazing discoveries made in science. Especially when it comes to Astronomy! Like the planet that is solid diamond! Pretty neat. Now, I don't see a lot of show's about the human psyche, but psychology is my number one love. I have my minor in it (actually, I have all but my internship for a B.S. done in it…) so I love anything brain related. Anyway! Before that get's too ranty those are my guilty pleasures…that aren't entirely nerdy. I really enjoy and these shows when I'm not watching the great nerd ones. Feel free to judge me on it, Mattie does all the time. |
