It is definitely safe to say, that season two of the hit Peacock series, We Are Lady Parts, is going to focus on quite the unique theme. In that, we are going to learn a great deal about the struggles that creative minds go through as they navigate the early days of their respective careers. Because the creative life is a tough life, one that has minimal security and minimal guarantee, and it can surprise and shock in ways none of us of remotely know. Giving rise to a unique exploration for audiences… one that will hopefully help them understand why the creative mind fights to keep going, regardless of struggles that would make others quit and wow… did the struggles come fast and furious in the show’s next episode. Because ‘Malala Made Me Do It’ saw Lady Parts… lose their rehearsal space. Because Saira ignored a bevy of eviction warnings, out of the belief that they were related to some kind of bluff. But alas, they were legit warnings, and the landlords were indeed moving to kick people out and well, creatives are creatures of habit that rely on familiarity to create and having that removed put Saira in a dark place and left the band struggling. Because they felt lost without a safe, creative space to call their own, and that had quite the impact on the band in their everyday lives. Because some everyday tasks became mundane and painful and hard to sort, and that put the band on the hunt for a new place to rehearse and write… and that was no easy task. For nothing felt or worked right and to compound matters further, Second Wife was still nipping at their success, and they were doing so in an impactful manner. For they had money to burn via sponsorships and that too, added to the stress of the current situation. Because with a little bread this band could likely rent some space and start the album and connect, and well that need for money prompted Taz to sign Second Wife to her label. Which of course brought up more fight and ire and left this group wondering what they needed to do to find that vibe again and reconnect and thankfully, an offer to let them use a summer home allowed for that happen and gave everyone clarity as to what needed to happen next for the band. In that, they just needed to play. To rediscover and reconnect and while that started off a little rough, it did not take long for these powerful creatives to find their voice and find their love of the music they cherished and wanted to share with the masses. Which put the band back in a good place mentally and allowed for Taz and Saira to have a hard but frank talk. In that, there could be no more charity for this band, if they wanted to really soar, they needed to take in some money and apply it to all the right places. Which brought about compromise and a shot at some cash. Because Saira agreed but didn’t want to just take quick payouts and look like sellouts. So instead, she opted to lean into some paid gigs for the group, starting with a wedding. All of which… served as the perfect exploration of how tough those early days can be for a budding creative. Because Lady Parts simply went through it here, and lost things that would prompt so many other bands to just throw up their arms and say enough. But those that are hungry enough and want it bad enough, will do what happened here, and pivot and fight and figure out way forward and that made for a fascinating tale. One that explored how successful bands handle adversity, while offering up the usual laughs and poignant moments this show is known for along the way and it… deserves a hearty round of applause. For showing us a side of the creative process that we don’t talk about much and for giving us compelling moments that have us rooting for Lady Parts to find the success they seek and deserve. Until next time. Watch ‘We Are Lady Parts’
