Caution: This article contains spoilers for the Season Two Premiere of ‘We Are Lady Parts’.
Often times, stories that involve chasing one’s dream… end in a supremely happy and flawless manner. Wherein the person, or persons, chasing said dream… obtain it and embrace it and find nothing but pure happiness. Because that is what we believe collectively happens when we finally have hold of our dreams, and there’s merit to that. Since we see real joy in those who do what they love. But while that makes for a happy ending and makes for a story that offers inspiration, that ending really does all of us a disservice. Because happy endings like that just aren’t real in the slightest, and the truth about grabbing hold of one’s dream… is that there is more work to follow once we grab hold of it. Which is why the season two premiere of We Are Lady Parts on Peacock is of note. Simply because ‘Villain Era’ happened to be a story that offered up a more realistic next chapter as to what happens when we obtain our dream. After all, when we last left the band, they were the next hot thing. They were touring the land, locking up waves upon waves of beloved fans through and through, and they even had super fans coming up to them and admiring them. All of which made it seem as though the happy ending was on the way. But alas, it did not take long for this premiere to inform us, that… overnight success isn’t a thing and once the high wears off, reality settles in. In this case, that involved the cold, hard reality, that the tour didn’t exactly bring in the big bucks. After all, a lot of venues just paid what they could and that took a bit of the wind out of the sails of the band. For they were hoping for more, hoping to get into the studio to prepare an album and really expand. But the early days of living our dreams aren’t like that, they still harbor struggle and fight because we’re in the thick of it and not at the top just yet. But life isn’t a total fight for survival when we live our dreams. We do grow, we do learn from this transition. After all, Amina saw this next chapter as her own villain era and opted to use the newfound confidence this gave her, to set boundaries and be bold and even get into the dating game again. Not to mention, such acts inspired her to bring about a new song for the band to play and record. A real empowerment ballad that went over well at their next show and it just so happened, that said show offered up another hard lesson about life after achieving our dreams. In that, we will inspire others to go for it, and they will fight hard to be in our light. Since Second Wife, a band from a superfan, took to the stage and played a slow burning cover of one the band’s top hits. A move that frustrated them to no end and left them wondering what lie ahead now that usurpers were gunning for them. But most important of all, that twist and everything that came before it, hammered home the central theme of this episode. In that, it won’t be all sunshine and rainbows once we commit to the dream and grab hold of it, we will still have to work and fight to find success, and we need to be ready for that. Because we will taste disappointment that our journey doesn’t fade to black with happy music, because more work lies ahead to enjoy true success and true freedom. But of course, if anyone can achieve that, it is this group. Because they’re smart, determined and hungry to be the best they can be, and well… this was just a wonderful way to kick off season two of this show. Since it perfectly pulled us back into this realistic and powerful journey, one that will have plenty of lessons ahead as this iconic band to be, fights for the top spot, agency, and all the success they outright deserve. Until next time. Watch ‘We Are Lady Parts’
