‘Love During Lockup’ Recap: ‘The Morning After’

When we last settled in to discuss the fascinating, WE tv series, Love During Lockup, we talked at length about how a sour and fragile foundation was being laid down for all the relationships on display in this story. For every single couple in this series endured moments filled with disdain and distrust and outright stress. Which is indeed a recipe for disaster, and that left all of us wondering, if we were about to watch that trouble simmer before our eyes into an eventual boil that would bring about disaster and great conflict and well… it would seem that is indeed going to be the truth.

For the next episode in this journey, saw that water begin to bubble to say the least. Courtesy of some harrowing moments. Because Ayonna was simply inconsolable in ‘The Morning After’, and she was going on and on about the disrespect she received from the judge and how much she hated that and that just put her in a downward spiral that ruined her day and left us wondering how far she might fall in jail. Which is concerning because she was simply a mess in this tale and irrational. Plus, we also began to wonder if True and Shonta were going to make it, since True’s family seemed skeptical of love and he of course, continued to engender concern over being true to Shonta. 

Plus, we also saw Candice and Andrew’s storybook tale begin to crumble just a bit. Because Candice was honest with Andrew about her mental standing, what she wanted in this moment and how that might indeed impact their love and that did indeed begin to create some friction between the two of them. Because while Andrew respected her and handled her concerns with grace, he was wounded and a little lost and it is only a matter of time before he speaks up in an earnest fashion that will bring about a fight. Not to mention, there’s real trouble at hand in Joey and Michael’s relationship… but not for the reasons we originally thought there would be. For a family tragedy put Michael in a tough place, the kind where he is now evaluating his love and having doubts and that cannot end well.

Yet while it was fascinating to see the heat turned up and see more trouble begin to brew, giving us insight on perhaps how best to approach our own problems… one of these journeys took a positive turn. Because Rick really did seem as though he was having hard doubts about Samantha and her demands. But some calm honesty (with a touch of drama for certain) from Samantha finally prompted Rick to try and win her over in every way imaginable. Which meant, just packing a bag and going to her neck of the woods, alongside picking out a ring for a forthcoming wedding. A surprise turn of events for certain, since it seemed for a minute there, Rick was ready to call the whole thing off.

But that aside, this was a bit of a glum and worrisome episode, and rightfully so. Because real trouble is brewing here. For Ayonna is ready to explode emotionally and now is not the time to do that, and Shonta and True’s love is of concern and man, you cannot help but feel for Joey. Because he is going through it, and you feel for Andrew as well since he really is trying to be the best boyfriend possible, but he also wants to fulfill his emotional needs in a supremely unique situation, and while we all want these loves to work out, the odds just aren’t in their favor. Which means, it will be a painful wait until next week’s episode, so we can see if these couples manage to overcome or if things begin to spiral out of control. Until next time.
