‘Love During Lockup’ Recap: ‘Free Candice!’

One mistake we all make in this life, is believing that bad times arrive out of nowhere. Because we truly hold to the notion that our world blows up for no particular reason at all, and problems descend upon us from out of the sky. Granted, there is SOME merit to this line of thinking since the death of a loved one can surprise us, so can a layoff. But for the most part, this is the wrong line of thinking for us to endure. Because most of our big problems have genesis points and grow and fester until they explode and shock us, and for proof… well then look no further than this week’s episode of Love During Lockup on WE tv.

For ‘Free Candice!’ saw the foundation for trouble being laid down for so many couples. The kind that will indeed explode into something more in the weeks ahead, and in that moment, will seem like a bad break or bad luck. Take for instance, Teenie’s journey in this story. Because she was still upset with Rob over his decision to hang back and take a longer sentence to avoid more regulation upon release. Mainly because he did not consult her on such matters or prepare her for it. So, she dipped into the money he sent over to support her to enjoy a little retail therapy, and well… that kind of bad blood only grows with time and creates resentment and may lead to blow ups and troubles between these two.

As for Rick, well… he was dealing with some real heat from Samantha. Because she was consistently asking more of him and calling him out when he didn’t give her what she wanted. Which rightfully frustrated Rick and left him briefly wondering if he wanted this or not. Granted, he said he did, but still… this was troublesome to watch, and this indeed has the potential to go south quick. Plus, Ayonna was on the cusp of a breakdown here. Because at sentencing she wasn’t keen with the judge wanting more decorum in that moment, and that pushed her to snap and clap back and that… led to an ugly sentence. One that could jeopardize the future and that too… sets the stage for a genuine emotional explosion down the line for Ayonna. 

However, the centerpiece stories here involved Andrew and Joey. Because Andrew finally got to see his love, Candice, and hold her and kiss her and even propose to her, to which she said, ‘yes!’ Which should have been a storybook ending. But Candice was quick to admit, this was a lot, and she had a lot to process and that, also set the stage for trouble. Because Andrew is madly in love with her and while he is good guy and will undoubtedly be calm at first… it will only be a matter of time before he asks what comes next with intensity. Also, Joey and Michael seemed to be on the precipice of disaster here. Because they are simply not communicating or understanding one another. Two key things that are necessary to a healthy love life, and the foundation for trouble is coming together nicely there.

All of which made for an unnerving episode. Because the tension was palpable here, and you can just tell… that frustrations and bad vibes are building and that everyone is starting to grate on one another or they are making missteps. Which means the foundations laid down here for drama and chaos, and bad days, will grow, because love makes us dumb. Love makes us want, and the foolishness that comes from that is inevitable, and must be experienced to learn how to love better, to communicate and be a true partner. And it will be interesting to see how that chaos plays out, and what comes of these couples as the dust settles, as this season of storytelling continues along. Until next time.
