Over the course of the past few weeks, we’ve talked at length about how difficult the pursuit of one’s dreams can be and how fundamental change is sometimes necessary to properly embrace what comes next as we inch toward that dream, courtesy of the WE tv series, Kold x Windy. Simply because that has been a central focus of this dynamic and brilliant series, courtesy of the struggles that Malika and Renee have endured as they have continued to work tirelessly toward an opportunity to finally live their collective dream of being world-famous musicians that wow the world with their talents. But while it has indeed been fascinating to learn about those struggles and see these flawed characters grapple with them week in and week out… the time eventually comes for us to face quite the choice regarding the chase for our dreams. In that, we have to decide to make the changes necessary to embrace the future and embrace our dreams and well… one big question that hangs over that is… what is it that motivates us to finally do so? Because Malika and Renee have danced around change, despite knowing deep down, it is something that is crucial to their growth as artists and people. Well as it turns out, the next episode of this incredible story served as the perfect time to explore just that, and ‘Take It to the Grave’ informed us… that low points and failure are really what push us toward change. Just because… those experiences teach us that where we are at isn’t sustainable and alterations must be made if we want to enjoy a better life and well… the first step in learning that lesson and the first step toward making change, came about early on in this tale. Since we came to learn that Malika and Renee survived the firefight that ended last week’s episode and that was quite the eye-opener for Malika. Because that wasn’t the life she wanted to lead, and she couldn’t very well be a famous musician if she was six feet under and that… and another big moment in this tale, gave her the perspective she needed. Because shortly after the duo came down from the high of being shot at, they finally got their shot with a record company, and were able to set up a meeting. One that… ended in utter disaster. Since the label was interested in making a lot of changes to the brand, and because Renee was a little over the top during the meeting, especially when a dis track revealing Renee and Shelly’s former tryst was played in the middle of it. All of which brought an abrupt end to an ugly meeting. One that was a missed shot at the big time and well… that failure, put this duo in a dark place. One where Malika was ready to walk away from Renee for good and that… shattered Renee. Because she saw Malika as family and well… when faced with the reality that this path was no longer sustainable, both of them pondered upon change. Since Malika started to wonder what she needed to do differently as an artist to be taken seriously by a label, while she worked to strengthen her budding relationship with Marlon. As for Renee… well after trying to end it all over the pain of this situation, she finally faced her past with an assist from GeGe. Since she helped Renee understand, a great deal of her struggles, related to trauma from her dark past. One that saw her biological mother impart horrible abuse upon Renee to get a fix since she was addicted to drugs, and well… until Renee dealt with that… this was her path, and that opened her eyes to so much and left her with plenty to ponder upon regarding what comes next. All of which, made for the show’s best episode to date. Because this was some heavy and powerful stuff for these characters to deal with, but that is how change comes to life for us, and this show deserves a hard round of applause for addressing this in such a realistic and powerful manner, and there also needs to be a round of applause for the cast here as well. Since they turned in great performances to sell this, in fact… we would be foolish to not point out that Nijah Brenea went all-out in this tale with her acting and moved us to tears with the pain she expressed regarding Renee’s journey and well… in the end, this episode actually makes the wait for next week’s episode ten times worse. Partly because… we are dying to know what will come out of what Shelly did here, since that was stone cold dirty. But more so because… at last… Malika and Renee have reached a crossroads and we are now dying to know if they will embrace the lessons learned here… to finally reach for the stars and embrace the work that goes into chasing one’s dream. Until next time.
