Written by ScottySometimes all you need in life is a fresh start. A new name, a new home, a new city, a new job. A new outlook on life and overall, a new you. Some people are able to turn their lives around and come out better when they do, but if you are able to do this, would you forget who you really are, or would it still be hiding out somewhere in the back of your mind? Paul Maguire is living his life to the fullest. He has the perfect wife, a great career and a wonderful daughter who he cares greatly about. With everything running the way it should be in his life, Paul has taken to focusing on his daughter Caitlin’s life and wants her to steer clear of all of life’s obstacles to make sure she does not fall into the bad crowd. Even though Caitlin is a great student, she has the wild side that her father fears. Keeping it in check and hanging out with people who appear to be a good group of friends, she is able to get nights alone in the house with them, no questions asked. When Paul and his wife head out to have dinner with the new state controller, his greatest fear comes to light. Getting a special visit from the police captain at dinner, Paul finds out that his daughter has been kidnapped and no one knows a thing. Trying to get information from his daughter’s friends, Paul has no luck and has to pull back into his old life and ask around, the hard way. Paul’s two best friends, Danny and Francis are ready to do anything to find his daughter and at any cost. Working their normal sources and coming up dry, Paul is shocked to find out his daughter has been killed with an old Russian Luger. Pulling his past back to the present, Paul has to go back down the road that he vowed never to go again when his daughter was born. Rage follows Paul Maguire as he is put into a situation that only he can find a resolution for. With his daughter being kidnapped, Paul and his wife have no faith in the police response and Paul will take it upon his self to find out who is behind it. Asking his oldest friends, gang members, for help, Paul turns back to his old days of being a ‘made’ man and starts asking everyone around town what they know. When his daughter is found dead, Paul is told to lay off of his search for the killer and let it lie, but Paul is not willing to allow the deed to go unpunished. Finding out that an old Russian Luger was used in the death of his little girl, Paul starts kicking in doors of all the Russian gangs around town and starts a war to avenge the loss of his daughter. I will admit that I am not huge into gangster movies, but every once in a while one catches my eye. Was it just Nicholas Cage that attracted me to this film? Yes. But there is plenty more in the movie that entertains just as much as good old NC. With plenty of action when Maguire starts his hunt around town, you really get the feel of losing a child and you are left asking yourself, if you lost your child, how far would you go to make things right, even if you don’t have all of the information that you need? Happy Viewing!

Written by John Edward BetancourtIt's always hard to find theaters that you truly feel comfortable in. I say that because well, I love going to the theater to watch motion pictures. Yet while I can go to any chain or any theater whenever I please I am picky to say the least. You see when it comes to the big chains there is a level of separation between the movie goer and the theater. It definitely feels like a business transaction and while I understand that yes indeed, film is a business, there is a magic to it as well. It's that sense of wonder and awe that film provides that has driven me all over Denver to find theaters that truly care about film and truly care about the movie going experience and to date in my travels I have only discovered a handful. One of which is the home of the Denver Film Society, the SIE Film Center. Located off of East Colfax Avenue, mere minutes from Downtown Denver, the SIE Film Center is a wonderful place to enjoy a motion picture. This lovely and quaint set of theaters also happens to house the Starz Denver Film Festival once a year and as of late has become host to many awesome Denver Comic Con events as the Center continues to draw in fans of all kinds, even hosting screenings of Doctor Who on the big screen. But it doesn't end there. The SIE Film Center/Denver Film Society is all about diversity. Cinema Q showcases films for the GLBTQ community, and the Center just wrapped up Cine Latino, an event that spanned four days highlighting movies from Latino filmmakers. In fact that kind of diversity is just the beginning since this theater is host to every genre of film imaginable. I've seen everything from thought provoking films like The Zero Theorem, to comedies that left me in tears to motion pictures from my favorite filmmakers. In fact the SIE Film Center was the only place in town playing George Romero's Diary of the Dead when it came out. Truly this is a place for fans of cinema who want more out of their theater. In fact a bar and lounge is even attached to the theater making it possible to sit down and discuss the film you just experienced and to give everyone here a little better understanding of the appeal of the SIE Film Center and what might be coming up, we had our very own Shae sit down with Programming Manager Ernie Quiroz for an interview. So please, enjoy the interview and if you get the chance, head down to the SIE Film Center as soon as you can, it's worth it. Written by ScottyTrying to stand out from the crowd is hard enough these days. Having to join in on the different fads to make sure that you fit in, it is next to impossible to stand alone, unless you are willing to be different. If you are one of those people that can stand alone and don’t mind being called an outcast, it is just another day, but very few people are able to do this since we all have need to fit in, one way or another. Frank Darbo is just an everyday man with nothing special about him. Being an outcast and being beat up consistently in his younger days, Frank needs to find a reason to wake up every day. He has found that he has two great moments in his life and when he wakes up every morning, he wants to be reminded of them. Getting married to his beautiful wife Sarah is one, and telling a police officer where a robber ran off to was the other. Making a drawing of each of these events and putting them up on the wall will keep Frank in his positive mindset and keep him smiling throughout the day. Since Frank has not done anything extraordinary he can see that some of the aspects of his marriage are failing however. When he notices that his wife is starting to fall back into her old drug abusive ways and does not want to even cuddle anymore, he fears that he is losing her. Then one day it happens, Sarah up and leaves their life without even a note and Frank has to draw upon everything he knows to find her and get her back. Running into one of Sarah’s so called friends, Frank finds out that she has left him for another man and needs to do something about it. Being touched by God and talking with his new hero, The Holy Avenger, Frank decides to suit up and do something extraordinary with his life. Turning into The Crimson Bolt, Frank finds out that fighting crime is what he was meant to do with his life. Needing to find better ways to battle his new foes, Frank has to turn to his local comic book shop and start reading about super heroes without special abilities and what they use to compensate it with. Young Libby gives him his pick of several heroes and finds that the broken man is much more than he seems and wants to help him on his new adventures. Super follows the life of Frank Darbo who has just lost his wife to the influence of drugs. Believing that she is being held against her will, Frank takes to the streets and tries to bring her back home, but finding that his is out manned and out gunned, he needs to become someone else. Becoming The Crimson Bolt, Frank is able to live out his dreams of beating up the scum of the city, and with no one to stop him, he will be able to accomplish anything he wants. Teaming up with his kid sidekick, Boltie, Frank finds out that there is much more to being a super hero than just putting on the uniform, it is more about protecting the innocent from the evil that lives inside of them. Looking for a superhero movie to make you laugh, Super is the way to go. With everything that Frank has to go through to become one of the most feared people in the city, it is amazing that he survives. Then with the addition of a foul mouthed sidekick, you do not get a break in the laughs until the story starts to get serious. It is great to watch as a character is able to transform right before your eyes and become someone much larger than they should be. With plenty of off color comedy and plenty of action, it is hard to find a reason not to give this movie a try, if for nothing else, once you see who all has cameos in it, you will be sold. Happy Viewing. I think there's a misconception about kids movies. Granted, they're geared towards kids, but often, an adult such as myself (some days) finds themselves enjoying them. Really, isn't that the whole point of movies? To enjoy them? I just happen to love them. That's why when How To Train Your Dragon 2 came out, I had to see it as soon as humanly possible. And I did with Mattie. The continued story of Hiccup and Toothless was something I waited for for what seemed like a lifetime. There's something magical about seeing a film the first time. How to Train Your Dragon was such an amazing film, it captivated my attention and brought a love to my heart I didn't know I could feel. Toothless not only reminds me of my cats, but has warmed his way into my heart. Yes, I know, he's fictional, but so what?! Well, the sequel brought that love back to the big screen and reminded me that there's nothing like a boy and his dragon. Okay, that's almost true. When I saw the sequel, we were in the theater with only a few others. And if you've seen it, you know that there is a certain part of that film that is somewhat purely devastating. Or, earth-shatteringly-terrible. The sobs that happened were not pretty, were not meant for anyone to see, and were probably heard throughout the theater. Still, I loved that movie and cannot wait to add it to my collection. Despite the tears. Another film sequel that stole my heart came out last summer! Despicable Me 2 was also a long awaited film that I had been dying to see! The first not only captured my heart, but it hit home in so many ways. The tail of orphans who find their father was heart warming enough. But to see Gru find love in the second film, and watch as they all became a family was everything I wanted and more. The minions are always a bonus. Not that I don't adore the minions, because I'm utterly in love with them! But, they're not for everyones taste and that's al lright. I bought this the second it came out…and might have seen it a few times in theaters too. Guys, it's a great movie. Intended for kids, families? I don't even know! I just know I love it. Wreck-It Ralph is another that I just adored. Of course, it's about characters in a video game based universe, so what's not to love about that?! This I saw a few times too, and have even managed to get friends into it. The harrowing tale of Ralph, a misunderstood villain, ends up being the hero by the end of the film. Making a few friends along the way. In the end, Ralph teaches us that it doesn't matter if you're good or bad, but that you're you and you're the best you you can be! The meaning of true friendship is a plus. Mostly, it's a good story with easter eggs of my childhood thrown in. Don't judge a book by its cover! And lastly, Up. Now, I have a rule about this movie…I do not watch it with people anymore. Mostly because this movie makes me cry every single time I watch it. The beginning of this film is what I consider to be the greatest love story ever told. It's so heart breaking I'm even tearing up now. (Seriously guys, this movie gets to me.) There are, of course, many theories surrounding the film and what not. I choose to take it at face value. The story of Carl fighting for his home after the loss of his wife Ellie, trying to find his way to the place she wanted to travel to most is beautiful. Along the way we meet Russell, a boy scout in need of some parental guidance. And Dug, a magical speaking dog! Throw in a bad guy, a wonderful plot, and some twists, and boom! Not all heroes are heroes, and not all stories end. I am such a romantic at heart that this film hurts. Knowing Ellie gave Carl one last gift, and told him to go live his own adventure still kills me to this day. It's a wonderful way to handle a harsh thing like death, but wow does it really tear me apart. Well guys, those are my Kid Movie Guilty Pleasures!
