Written by ScottyOne thing that we all take for granted is our memories. Knowing that most of these have made us into the people that we are today, we would not change them for the world. But what if we start to forget some of the important things, what if we do not know what is happening around us on a daily basis, what if we do not remember our lives? Having this happen would drive anyone crazy and it seems to be happening more and more each day with Alzheimer’s and Dementia becoming so prevalent. It is hard to say what we will do when we start forgetting ourselves, but I hope that friends and family will be there to help fill in the blanks before we spiral into the darkness. Christine wakes up next to a stranger and has no idea where she is. Jumping out of bed, she rushes to the bathroom and sees that it is littered with photos of her and the man she woke up next to, showing that the two happen to be married. Waiting on the edge of the bed, Ben is ready to tell his story to her once again, how she was in an accident ten years ago and now every morning when she wakes up, she can remember nothing from the previous day. Although Christine does not know if she can trust this man or not, the story seems too extreme not to be true, so she falls in-line with her daily duties around the house until her Ben returns from work, until she gets a strange phone call. Doctor Nasch tells Christine what is happening to her once again, but she does not know the voice on the phone and has to prove to herself that he is not lying to her. Keeping a short video diary on a camera given to her by Nasch, she truly starts to understand her condition. Nasch is willing to hold sessions with Christine every day to help her get her memories back and he tells the forgetful woman that it was her idea. Driving around to different locations, Christine is returned to the place where she was found beaten and left for dead and does not understand why Ben would lie to her about the accident that he quotes on a daily basis. As Christine finds out more about herself, memories and dreams start popping into her head and she is starting to figure out who she really is. From a picture of an old friend Claire, to finding out that she had given birth to a little boy, Christine is able to put the pieces together on her own and her husband Ben seems to be hiding her from the facts. With help from Doctor Nasch, she is slowly remembering her past, one day at a time and with the help from her video diary, her memories are starting to surface faster each day. But when she gets a call from her old friend Claire, Christine is in for a rude awakening of what has been happening to her life for the past ten years. This movie reminds me of Fifty First Dates, but a much darker version of it. It shows how easily someone can enter another person’s life by just knowing the situation that they are in. Christine has to decide who to trust on a daily basis and not knowing if someone is lying to her, she has to place her faith with somebody, even if it is the wrong person. Doctor Nasch stole the show for me as he has to work with a woman that has no idea who he really is that winds up falling for him. As he tries to push himself out of the equation, he gets pulled in closer and must try to stay professional while treating Christine. The two light up the screen together and you get the feeling that they are both working for the same goal, but not knowing the past will prove to be deadly when all is said and done. Happy Viewing.

Written by ScottyIt seems like for the most part, this past winter was pretty tame, since there were several days with temperatures averaging over thirty percent higher than last year. That may not seem like a lot, but when you are talking about a fifteen degree shift, well, you have got something. It is difficult to predict the weather and living in Colorado and watching the weather people get it wrong most of the time, it is difficult to imagine what might happen if they got it right all of the time. With the ever changing winds blowing across the nation, it is very exciting to see what weather strangeness we get next. Young Tim Ratchet is visiting his father the week before Christmas and is having the time of his life, well sort of. When his dad is not looking, Tim is trying to amuse himself, and has caught the eye of one of the town’s beauties, Marley Crooge. Although Tim does not see a problem with this relationship, her father, Ben Crooge is the richest man in town and is about to open a mall on main street, and could make life difficult for Tim. Tim’s father Charlie also works for Mr. Crooge and although he does not share his employer’s beliefs, there is no way to open his mouth and express his opinion without losing his job. But it is Christmas time and two head into town to take part in the party that will be taking place after a big announcement. At the university, Alex Novak has been tracking a meteor heading towards earth and is concerned that it may actually hit. Being Christmas Eve, her professor has told her to leave and pick it up next week, but Alex is determined to see it though and prove that her hunch is correct. In town, Tim and Marley escape the crowd for a couple minutes to express their love for each other and watch the meteor enter the atmosphere and break into two pieces, one of which finds its way to Main Street. Hearing the blast as it makes impact, this meteor has something special within it which no person has seen before, the power of extreme cold and with every breath it takes, it exhales frigid cold causing flash freezes. After making sure that all of the survivors are taken care of, Charlie comes up with a plan to get everyone to safety by sending them to the adjoining town. Not fully understanding the severity of the situation, he watches as the town is engulfed into an ice age and has to find a way to stop it, or at least keep the townspeople safe. Witnessing first hand with Alex the powers of the meteor, the two are in a race against weather to make it back to the town safely only to find that fire can keep the extreme cold at bay. Alex knows that there will be a way to stop the freeze from expanding, and needs to find a heat source strong enough to fight the meteor's chilling agenda. With a plan in place to blow up the meteor, a small group takes to the hills to get dynamite, but little do they know that Tim and Marley are trying to find their way to safe ground since the meteor has disabled their vehicles. There is nothing like a good disaster movie that makes you feel great for staying inside. What do I like most about this movie? I love the meteor, it grows, it has targets and it shoots up ice crystals from underground with a purpose. There is nothing better than a non-living villain to keep a small group of townspeople in check and at every turn, it seems to be able to know what they are up to. But that is not the entire story, it is about love and respect and although you do not see a ton of that when the movie starts, it comes to play as the ice takes over the town. Just a fun movie with some good effects that will leave you shaking your head when you see the stupidity of some people. Happy Viewing. Written by ScottyEveryone wants to believe that their children are special and why not? They are your kids and the world is being put in front of them to conquer, but what if you child was born with a special ability that would render them different? As a parent, you would like to see them fit in with the rest of the crowd and not be tormented or abused by anyone. These places can be difficult to find, but once you find at least one person you can trust, that may be more than enough to make the decision to move your life to a new location, if for nothing else, to see your child grow up happy. Peter Sandza knows that his son is special and wants to find the best place for him to grow up. With help from his friend Ben Childress, Peter has found out that there is a place where his son Robin will be able to be taught and trained in the ways of his old man. But not everything is as it seems when the father and son are ambushed by terrorists and forced to separate. While Robin watches as his father takes care of the threat, he sees the thing that would cause most kids to lose it, his father is blown up in the attack. Being put into custody by Childress, Robin never sees his father return from the ashes and try to take revenge on his oldest friend. Gillian Bellaver is getting prepared for her upcoming final and knows that she is ready for the names portion of the test, just not the dates. But that matters little when she attends a class that is dealing with the forces of the mind. Watching as brain waves are able to power an electric train around the tracks, Gillian takes her turn at it and the train never moves faster. Knowing that she has something special that would like to be studied, Gillian is taken into a special school where she can try to hone in on her special talent, but when she is told about Robin Sandza, her powers start to spiral out of control. Robin has been tested on for over ten months and his powers are growing at an alarming rate. With his mind putting out enough energy to rival an atomic bomb, the doctors are more than happy with his progress. But Robin is losing his fun loving self and keeping his emotions in check has become a thing of the past. Knowing that he is being trained to be a weapon, Robin also knows that he can be replaced and when Gillian starts to invade his mind, he knows who the replacement is. Trying to keep himself from being disposed of, Robin takes the next steps in his training to become more powerful so no member of the normal human race can stop him. But little does Robin know that Gillian along with his father Peter are trying to find him and free him of the torment he has been putting up with for several months. With his childhood well into his past, will Robin be able to free his mind from what he has been taught to focus on, or has he fully become the killing machine that a secret government agency wanted him to be. This is a great sci-fi/thriller from the late seventies that I would recommend anyone that likes the genre to watch. It is a little dated, but the storyline is good and the characters are more than loveable…for the most part. I really liked watching as Robin slowly loses himself and becomes the man the government wants him to be, while Gillian is starting to discover her gift and begins to grow into it. As far as my favorite character goes, I want to say Gillian, but I have to go with Robin for one reason, he goes from mild mannered to pure psycho in a matter of seconds. Not knowing how I would respond if my mind was toyed with and being programmed into something else, it might happen just that way. Sometimes the oldies catch you off guard and this one did that for me. Happy Viewing. Written by ScottyGrowing up I was a little bit obsessed with illusions. I loved watching people perform magic tricks and wanted to learn how to become a magician myself. Come to find out that several of the tricks are very easy to do and there are all kinds of cheats that people can use to captivate audiences. Next on the list were psychics, since it is hard for me to believe that anyone could know more about my life than I, it was fun to watch them try and plan out my future for me and with some of the vague suggestions that they gave me, well of course some of them would come true. I will never doubt someone that has the ability to entertain, much less says that they can speak to the dead or see into the future, it is a gift that should be shared with the world. I would just rather get some specifics, not the generic telling’s that I have received in the past. Margaret Matheson and Tom Buckley have teamed up to become the best psychic debunking team in the nation. Traveling to haunted homes and watching as the paranormal takes place in front of their very eyes, they are able to put an end to the hauntings, but not with special powers, with their science. The science of making a haunting is very simple, a pound on a wall at a special time, or levitating a table with your foot, it has all been well documented by the two and they are looking to make a bigger name for their studies. Teaching at the university, psychologist Margaret Matheson has a classroom full of students that do nothing but admire her teachings. Not believing in anything that psychics can bring to the table, she has little belief in anything overall, especially the afterlife. After shutting down all of the city's psychic shows, Tom and Margaret are ready to move on to more paying gigs around town, but when the news of renowned psychic Simon Silver hits the presses, Tom wants nothing more than to prove that the old man is a fraud. Being begged by Margaret to not pursue what he is about to do, she comes clean about her meeting with Silver back in the day and how afraid she is of the blind man. With her son slowly fading away in the hospital for over twenty years, Margaret knows that there is something special about this man, but is not willing to take the extra step to prove what powers he actually has. Tom is determined to prove that Silver is a fake and wants to do so after his mentor was skewered on national television without the blind psychic even in the room. Going to his normal box in the theater, Tom works on getting everything set up, but when he flicks the power switch, all hell breaks loose. As all of the theater's electronics blow up, Tom now has all the more reason to prove that Silver is a fake since there is no normal power surge that could have caused the catastrophe to happen. But Tom will have to move alone as Margaret’s sickness gets the better of her and she passes away. Wanting any help he can get, the university's most tenured professor, Paul Shackleton will have the honor of testing Silver to see what he can uncover about the psychic phenomenon and prove if it is real or not. Being able to gain entrance into the lab to view the tests, Tom will now get to see firsthand if Silver is for real or just fooling everyone that has crossed his path. I don’t know where this movie has been hiding for the past couple of years, but I am sorry that I missed it until now. I love how the story played out, watching the debunkers take on the rest of the world that only want to believe that there is something more out there. I loved the debunking’s of the haunted houses the most, since they were so easy to dismiss for the two. I didn’t hit on it much, but the story between Margaret and her son that is living on life support has to be the saddest part of the movie altogether, but it was not that her son was still alive, but that she could not find the courage to pull the plug and let him go since she does not believe in anything past life. Tom had a great story and his desperation to prove that Silver is a fraud leads the movie pretty much from the get go. I liked the students and classroom scenes the best, as the students want to try and challenge their professors and always get shut down. A good little movie that will make you challenge your beliefs more than once as you are able to see the world crumble in front of your very eyes. Happy Viewing. Written by ScottyIt is difficult to know what will happen once the world starts to spiral downhill. People will want to help each other as much as possible, I am sure of this, but they also have to worry about their own survival as well. Most of us have no clue what someone will do when it comes to their life or someone else’s, they may be willing to let themselves go to save another, or they could do what their natural instinct tells them to and kill to be saved. The possibilities make for some scary thoughts and I hope that when the day comes that people are able to keep their wits about them, or else we are all in trouble. Kendal and Dean have been able to survive comfortably in their old orphanage house since the water in the valley dried up. With a plan in mind to escape on an airplane that they have been able to secure, they only need one last part to make it work and Kendal is forced to battle the heat on a daily basis to find a distributor cap. With a functioning well, the two have been able to make it work, but their neighbors have been slowly disappearing from their farms. Seeing pamphlets on the newly abandoned houses, the people of the dried up valley know that they can be taken in by Carson, who is offering everyone asylum at his compound, but when nobody knows what he is really up to. When hearing a distress call from one of the farms, Kendal heads out to help, but when she arrives at the farm that is being threatened by masked men, she sees that the raiders are killing people out of spite for drinking their water. Returning home, Kendal lets Dean know what is happening and since the two kids have formed the ultimate hiding spot, they should be all right. As the days pass on and the wells start to dry up faster, Kendal hears her friend’s family call in for help from Carson. They have given up and with the loss of their father, they have no place to turn, but when Kendal arrives, she sees that Carson is not who he says he is. Killing the older folks to keep them from suffering, Carson will only provide refuge for able bodied youth who can work and earn their own way. Fully aware that time is running out for her and Dean, Kendal is forced to make some difficult decisions on what to do next. Knowing that they will not survive in the valley much longer since the wells have been drying up faster than expected and Carson is looking to eliminate everyone from his land, finding a distributor cap becomes Kendal’s number one priority. But there are more people in the valley that are looking to keep her from leaving, even if she does not take one more sip of water. With raiders, Carson and new drifters moving through, nobody is safe in the valley anymore and with no water to keep people alive, there is no reason to stay, unless you want to take someone special with you on your way out. I always like to watch these kind of end of the world movies since they show the good and bad in people when put into an unbelievable situation. I might still have questions on if the entire planet has been dried up since you don’t get news reports and everybody talks about finding a better life outside of the valley, but it seems like it is harder than it should be to leave. I like the raiders hiding in the sand and when Kendal gets to meet them face to face, she shows that nothing will keep her from reaching her goal, even if it means that she has to kill for it. Kendal was really the star of the movie and she has to overcome so much and is able to, even figuring out how to use a sword. This movie features a good storyline and a couple of characters that make you believe that the world could continue to function if a extended drought takes over the planet. All I know is that I like drinking my water more than ever now and I do not feel bad about it at all. Happy Viewing. |
