Written by ScottyFinding something that you love doing is something that we all strive for. Even if it is not to make a living on, if you are able to do this one thing, your life becomes just that little bit more relaxing and that is something that everyone needs. When you find that one thing, you need to be careful not to overuse it and make sure to keep your eyes open to what is happening, because even though you love it, you still have the risk of it hurting you when you least expect it. Kate Mathieson and her husband Jeff are looking to make a name for themselves in the shark video arena. Kate has always had a gift of swimming with the sharks and not getting hurt, and even with a few close calls, she would not give it up for anything. As her husband Jeff is shooting some unique footage, he loses sight of a shark and when Kate sees where it is going, it is too late and one of her best friends had been attacked. Not ever losing anyone on a diving trip, Kate has taken her friend’s death very hard. Losing a friend, losing her husband and soon to be losing her boat, she is working day to day hosting whale watching excursions. Knowing that his wife is in trouble, Jeff returns home to try and offer an alternative and a job offer that she cannot afford to pass up. With a rich man that is willing to pay $100,000 dollars to swim with a shark on the line, Kate has to make up her mind if she is willing to put her own life or anyone else’s on the line for that much cash. Agreeing to take out her new client, Kate is still not sure that that he will be able to protect himself from the sharks when trying to fulfill his lifelong dream. Dark Tide follows former shark enthusiast Kate Mathieson as she tries to cope with the death of one of her best friends. As a year has gone by, Kate is still working on the water, but is not doing what she what meant to be doing and that is swimming with the sharks and making documentary films. With her current business pushing her deeper into debt, she needs a way to get ahead of the game once again. Her husband Jeff appears at just the right time and brings an offer that she cannot refuse, a rich client wants to swim with sharks and will pay the price of $100,000. Being reluctant to allow the aging man to fulfill his dream, Kate has to decide what is more important to her, the money to save her boat, or the chance of someone else getting killed on her watch. After watching this film, my fear of sharks just gets worse. I don’t see the appeal of wanting to swim with sharks at any point of time and cannot understand why people would want to put themselves in harm’s way. With that being said, you think you know where the movie is going to take you with someone getting attacked while being stupid, but that is not the case as there are several more factors that come into play that will endanger the entire crew. With some stunning underwater footage, it is very apparent that the money was put into the right places when making this movie and I would not ask for any of my time back from watching it. Happy Viewing.

Written by John Edward BetancourtIf there is something we really haven't done here at Girls of Geek, it is take the time to say goodbye to people that have passed on from the world in the entertainment business. It's not out of a lack of respect, it is more out of the fact that we let their work speak for their career and their life. The beloved live on forever in home video and will always bring us fond memories when we pop in that movie or show. But something different happened yesterday. Yesterday came a death that quite frankly, left me devastated and it was one that needed to be discussed, because Robin Williams and his untimely passing has left everyone shocked. It was social media that broke the news for me first and it made for a terrible drive home. There were tears in my eyes, because Robin Williams was more than just a funny dude who always made us laugh...he was a massive part of my childhood, a fixture in my home. From Popeye to Mrs. Doubtfire I consistently remember everyone in my family enjoying his work. He was one of the rare actors who completely disappeared into the role. Sure you know he was going to be in a movie or a television show, but once the story got underway, that was it. He became Peter Pan, or Sy Parrish or Garp. It was simply incredible to watch and quite frankly, the man deserved more than one Academy Award. But what always impressed me more is that the man was inspiration personified. He was always a reminder that we should enjoy life as much as possible and always find humor in the little things. That kind of mindset would keep everyone young at heart, force us to look at the world in wonder and keep us smiling day in and day out. But it was the darker side of his life that inspired more. His battle with depression and drugs and alcohol was a reminder that life was always going to be a fight. There were always going to be challenges and guess what...you could battle them and do amazing things. Yet even in death, he inspires. His struggle is a reminder to all, that sometimes we need help. That it is okay to reach out for help, it won't make us weak, it just means we couldn't figure it out on our own. Regardless, this is a tough one to bear, because the world just became a darker place without a man who brought incredible joy to so many of us. Rest in peace Robin Williams, you will certainly be missed. Written by ScottyTaking a relaxing vacation is something that everyone should do. Getting away from the stress of the real world and let your most stressful decision be about what you will be eating for dinner. Putting the real life pressures on someone else while you let all of yours slip away might be a little bit selfish, but it is your vacation and you deserve it. A standard flight from Los Angeles to Hawaii is underway and running without a hitch. The plane is flying fine, the passengers are happy and carefree and getting ready to land. The only problem that the pilots are facing is radio silence form the control tower on the island, and then they figure out why. A massive ash cloud has formed in front of the plane that has killed all of their communications along with a new volcano range forming before their very eyes. The passengers become aware of the issue, especially Rick Pierce who is keeping close tabs on the pilots as he was one in his past life. When he notices that the plane is not responding at all to the lava balls that are falling towards the plane, he has to figure out why. With both pilots dead at the controls, the plane is being flown by auto-pilot and although it is keeping the plane level, it is not taking into account the violent effects of the volcanoes in front of it. Without knowing the code to disable the auto-pilot, Rick has to fight with all of his power to maneuver the plane through the eruptions that are taking over the Hawaiian Islands. Airplane vs. Volcano follows a plane full of fun loving vacation seekers that are on their way to the Hawaii Islands to get away. When the plane flies into an active volcano range, all bets are off as they do not have full control of the jetliner to avoid the oncoming terrors that the volcanos are spewing out. Rick Pierce is the only person qualified to take control of the plane when the pilots are killed and tries everything he can to keep himself and fellow passengers alive, but the volcanoes might be the least of his worries as a few of his fellow fliers are frightened beyond belief and believe that he is the problem and will kill them before they have a shot at being rescued. As the forces on the ground have to worry about the evacuation of the islands while the volcanos are erupting, one staff sergeant is worried about the safety of the people on the plane and is willing to lose his stripes to make sure they are delivered safely as well. An exciting look at how the passengers on a plane that is destined to crash while being stuck in an active volcano range have to work together to survive. Without being able to land and fuel running low, they have to formulate plans on what they can do inside of the plane, and although it may not seem like a lot, they are able to make it go much further than they could imagine. I was pleasantly impressed with the emotions that were displayed in this film as sometimes that is left at the door with all of the action that is going down, but I think it was captured perfectly as everyone starts to believe that there is no way out of their situation and they will all die at the volcano's hand. Happy Viewing. Written by ScottyIt is hard to change the thinking that has been laid into us over the years, whether someone taught it to us, or even the stories we have been told as children. Even if we are able to find a way to change these old tales, would anyone be willing to accept the change, as they have heard it the same way for many years as well. Since fairy tales have a very powerful reputation, you may not be able to change the ones that are already out there, but you may be able to create one of your own. King David and Queen Violet have just had their first child, Dawn. As the royal family requested, the fairies in their kingdom have come to bless their new family addition, but they were not the only guests with special powers that arrived. Queen Tambria makes a special appearance to bless the royal baby as well, but her gift is a curse as she feels disrespected by the royal’s after her home had been taken away. Cursing the child to death on her 16th birthday, the fairies were not able to lift the curse, but add stipulations to it before they were destroyed. Making sure that Dawn and her kingdom were protected, the fairies were able to allow the people to sleep, rather than die. Upset by this, Tambria had to wait many years to make her curse come true and tricked the family into believing it was young Dawn's 16th birthday several days before it was, she inherited a sleeping kingdom and would rule unopposed for the next hundred years. After Tambria takes the throne, Barrow, the prince’s whipping boy is being tormented once again by his prince and friends when he finds old letters written by someone. Being informed about the myth of Sleeping Beauty, Barrow wants to go out on his own to find the young maiden and save her, but his prince has a different idea. Prince Jayson will never inherit the throne with his father’s distrust of him, and hears the legend as well and will put his life on the line to get some respect and a kingdom from this slumbering beauty. Taking his men and whipping boy Barrow, Prince Jayson treks to this old cursed castle to claim what is rightfully his. Not knowing what to expect, for no one has ever returned from the castle, the group is tortured by the Queen of the napping kingdom and their inner strength will be put to the ultimate test. Sleeping Beauty is a story about young Barrow and everything he has to overcome just because of his social status. Being the prince’s whipping boy is no easy task, but he is called onto do much more than take the whip, he is asked to be a fighter for the prince’s cause. Traveling to an old castle that is believed to be cursed, Barrow has to prove his worth to his prince, to the Queen of the sleeping kingdom and most importantly, to himself. Having to battle off monsters that are the things of nightmares, Barrow will have to face off against the man he has worked for to show how loyal he really is. An interesting take on an old classic. As the story of Sleeping Beauty has been around for such a long time, it is hard to give it the proper respect for a reboot. Adding action and adventure into it is one way to go about it and that is what this film did. With a water monster and two others that I could not describe, along with some zombies, it is fun to watch how everyone is asked to prove themselves. I will admit that I enjoyed watching how Barrow was so loyal to the prince that has tortured him for years on end, and no matter what happened to him or the group, he only had the best interests of the prince on his mind. This movie is not for everyone, but if you watch it, you get to meet several members of the Van Dien family. Happy viewing! Written by ScottyDeciding what is right and wrong in your own views is something that can affect how you will be viewed by others. I have always tried to keep my views consistent and keep what others believe in the background, for it is my life, not theirs and I will do whatever I feel is right for me. But when it comes down to someone that actually has powers that can judge you, you might have to change your outlook a bit, for if they can control your fate, it may be smart to get on their good side. Lindsey and Ben were out on their date night when something strange occurred. The Rapture came into effect and many of the people on earth had been sent to heaven. Not truly understanding what they did or did not do to get picked to ascend to the heavens like their friends, the two are forced to find a way to survive on Earth while the apocalypse slowly takes effect. With the world being run by the anti-Christ, ‘The Beast’ has found a place to lay his head in Seattle until his final transformation is completed. Being bored with the common woman he usually ends up with, he is looking for someone just a little more pure that will give him the offspring that he deserves. After Lindsey and Ben’s sandwich cart was destroyed by a flaming rock, they had to bite the bullet and get a job working for this immortal, but when The Beast lays his eyes on Lindsey, all bets are off as he puts all of his cards on the table and wants to make her his wife. Threatening to kill her family and friends if she declines the offer, Lindsey has to come back with the yes answer to the proposal, but her boyfriend will not allow evil to triumph again. Trying to find a way to get Lindsey out of her non-negotiable commitment, Ben has to use everything at his disposal to distract and capture The Beast. Not being able to kill the anti-Christ without the fear of him coming back as someone more powerful, they have to find a way to keep him alive while keeping him out of the seat of power. Rapture-Palooza follows young lovers Lindsey and Ben as they are left on Earth after the Rapture took a majority of the population away from the apocalypse. They try to better themselves by opening a sandwich cart to help the remaining people on Earth with something good to eat. When the cart is destroyed, the two are forced to work for the man who has taken control of the world and making everyone’s life miserable. When The Beast sees Lindsey however, he knows that there is something special about her that he cannot fight. Stealing her away from her boyfriend, The Beast will have his way with the young woman and bring more hell to Earth with his offspring, unless Ben can stop him. Just a fun loving movie that shows what could happen when the world goes to hell. With a wise cracking anti-Christ that keeps you on your toes with his innuendos, it is hard to dislike him, unless he is coming after you. With too many jokes to count, this movie keeps you laughing and may even make you cringe a time or two until the very end. With one greatest battles between good and evil coming to the screen, it is just a laugh a minute as the world comes to an end. Happy viewing. |
