Written by John Edward BetancourtIt's always hard to find theaters that you truly feel comfortable in. I say that because well, I love going to the theater to watch motion pictures. Yet while I can go to any chain or any theater whenever I please I am picky to say the least. You see when it comes to the big chains there is a level of separation between the movie goer and the theater. It definitely feels like a business transaction and while I understand that yes indeed, film is a business, there is a magic to it as well. It's that sense of wonder and awe that film provides that has driven me all over Denver to find theaters that truly care about film and truly care about the movie going experience and to date in my travels I have only discovered a handful. One of which is the home of the Denver Film Society, the SIE Film Center. Located off of East Colfax Avenue, mere minutes from Downtown Denver, the SIE Film Center is a wonderful place to enjoy a motion picture. This lovely and quaint set of theaters also happens to house the Starz Denver Film Festival once a year and as of late has become host to many awesome Denver Comic Con events as the Center continues to draw in fans of all kinds, even hosting screenings of Doctor Who on the big screen. But it doesn't end there. The SIE Film Center/Denver Film Society is all about diversity. Cinema Q showcases films for the GLBTQ community, and the Center just wrapped up Cine Latino, an event that spanned four days highlighting movies from Latino filmmakers. In fact that kind of diversity is just the beginning since this theater is host to every genre of film imaginable. I've seen everything from thought provoking films like The Zero Theorem, to comedies that left me in tears to motion pictures from my favorite filmmakers. In fact the SIE Film Center was the only place in town playing George Romero's Diary of the Dead when it came out. Truly this is a place for fans of cinema who want more out of their theater. In fact a bar and lounge is even attached to the theater making it possible to sit down and discuss the film you just experienced and to give everyone here a little better understanding of the appeal of the SIE Film Center and what might be coming up, we had our very own Shae sit down with Programming Manager Ernie Quiroz for an interview. So please, enjoy the interview and if you get the chance, head down to the SIE Film Center as soon as you can, it's worth it.
