Written by ScottyLooking for revenge can add to a long and pointless existence. If you are able to find the one that you are holding spite against and defeat them, what will you do next? The search could be one of the most painstaking experiences to go through and leave you with blinders on as there is only one thing on your mind. Once the quest is over, you will have to ask yourself if it was worth it or if you could have done something better with your time. Young seaman Ahab is in charge of listening to the sonar on an old 1969 submarine while tracking a Russian boat under the ice of the Pacific Ocean. Hearing something strange, or the lack of something strange he warns his captain about a threat in the water that could endanger the ship and the crew. The captain gives little credit to this report as he wants to continue his pursuit of the Russian sub. Ahab knows something is wrong as a "void" in the water attacks the submarine and takes the young man’s leg. In present day, marine biologist Dr. Michelle Herman has been dismissed from her college due to unreal claims that she is able to communicate with whales. With her research assistant Pip, the two are hard at work on a little boat off the coast of San Diego. Testing her theory and showing that she can really communicate with the great biological mammals, Michelle finds that she is correct as whales start to surround her. The whales then move away as another large underwater predator moves into the area, the U.S.S. Pequod. Being commanded by Captain Ahab, the Pequod is on a hunt and destroy mission to find the large beast that took his leg so many years ago. Trying to convince the doctor to help him on his quest, Ahab tells her of all of the strange attacks that have taken place in the Pacific Rim by the ancient Moby Dick. With all of the seamen on the sub knowing the stories of the oversized whale, getting their buy in for the hunt was extremely easy for the aging captain, but what he has not told them was the truth about who really gave the orders to destroy it. 2010: Moby Dick follows Captain Ahab on his quest for revenge against the huge whale foe, Moby Dick. Looking for this whale for most of his adult life, Ahab worked his way up the ranks in the U.S. Navy and retrofitted his new submarine to take out the ocean killer. Going rouge and outside of the Navy’s command, Ahab is only looking to take out the beast to save lives of the seafaring public and get his own revenge for the loss of his leg. Being hunted by his own Navy, along with the great whale, Ahab has to put his faith into Dr. Herman to find and take out Moby Dick before he is captured by his brothers in arms. If you have followed the news in the past couple of years, you will find stories about whales pulling a breach and taking out whale watching boats and that is pretty much how this movie goes. Moby Dick is on the hunt for anything that makes him upset, whale watching boats, submarines, but mainly the sonar that hurts his head. Biting, jumping on boats and being able to turn on a dime in the ocean, the large beast is unstoppable and that is what makes this a fun film. Although it is based loosely on the Herman Melville classic, it adds a new world twist and shows that modern technology may not be the way to take out the beast. Happy viewing.
