Every once in a while I need to give myself a break from my horror movie marathons and watch something that makes life worth living, comedies.  I forgot that The Ridiculous 6 was coming out on a special day off for me so I decided to sit down and give it a watch.  I don’t know how you could go wrong with the star studded cast that Adam Sandler has been able to get together, since everybody seems to come flying back to him whenever he needs something.  Well, let’s just jump into the story since everybody needs to know what is going on.

Tommy is trying to buy some flour for his soon to be wife when he is called out by some outlaws that want to take their shot at the "Injun" menace that is running around the west.  But Tommy is no normal white man, he has been raised on the prairie by the Apache and knows how to fight in ways that no white man has seen before.  When returning to the camp, White Knife (Tommy) tells his adopted father about what happened, but before he can get advice, a white man rolls into camp.  Frank Stockburn is looking to make amends with his estranged son and offers Tommy the chance of a life time to collect on all of the money from his past life as an outlaw.  Before Tommy is able to make a decision, Frank is taken away by his old outlaw friends to collect on the money from his last big score.

Seeing that his father is trying to turn over a new leaf, Tommy jumps into action and starts on his long trek to track down the band of outlaws that have taken his dad.  Needing to find a way to get fifty thousand dollars to pay off his father's captors, Tommy has decided that stealing from the bad folks of the word is an all right thing to do and starts looking for bad men who have money.  But what Tommy does not know is that his father has been around the west much longer than he knows and has done much more to make an imprint of his legacy.  Running into two men in the same town that know their father is Frank Stockburn, Tommy’s family quickly grows and the further he travels, the more half-brothers his accumulates.

Five of Tommy's brothers are found in total and this newfound family of six are in high spirits after becoming one of the greatest bands of outlaws west of the Mississippi, but they run into a speed bump when the Left Eye Outlaws steal their money while the men all have their guard down.  Being so close, but now back to square one, the group of brothers have to come up with a way to get a lot of money and fast since time is running out for their old man.  Hosting a poker game with some of the richest men in the west, the brothers are back in the saddle and even though getting Frank released is their top priority, Tommy is still focused on what he wants the most out of his life, to marry his sweetheart, Smoking Fox.

Now I understand the storyline and that played out well, but I am kind of disappointed with the humor in the movie.  There were a couple of things that happened to make me smile, but nothing that made me fall off the couch and that is what Sandler has been known to do in the past.  With fantastic cameos and my favorite being Mark Twain, I don’t see why this was the case.  I might have just outgrown the Adam Sandler humor, or maybe Mister Sandler has. That might be a blog for another time.  Not a bad western overall with all of the essentials, outlaws, snakes, Injuns, betrayal and attractive salon ladies.  Give it a shot if you are in need of something to make you smile.  Happy Viewing.

Will it ever be possible for Los Angeles to catch a break?  It seems like every time I watch the news there are new reports of when the city will be falling into the ocean.  The latest story I heard had the target date of 2018, so I guess that we will lose our movie industry sooner than later since everyone is out there.  I would think that with all of our technology, we would be able to prevent this from happening since we know what causes the quakes.  Oh well, L.A. I will miss you when you are gone.

Jack is on his way to try and visit his daughter, but she has other plans for the night since she was asked by Derek to go camping in the Angeles National Forest.  Jack is very disappointed in his daughter for double booking her time and since he no longer gets to see her on a regular basis, he has become very protective of her.  Finding out that she is going on this trip with boys, he is about to lose his mind, but his soon to be ex-wife keeps him calm enough not to explode, but the rest of the city will not be that lucky.

At a fracking plant across town, issues are starting to arise.  Knowing that they should not be digging to the fault lines, two workers find out that they have punctured one and it is causing their station to shake violently.  While nothing is showing up on the USGS radar, Emily who is new to her position has been put in charge of finding out what is opening up sinkholes all over the city.  As she is able to find the epicenter of the quakes, she gets into contact with Mr. Gladstone who was able to procure her the job.  Finding that one of the fracking plants has caused this mess, Emily and Gladstone have to prove that their theories are correct to get the mass evacuation of L.A. approved before it vanishes into the ocean.

While believing that his plants are harmless, Reynolds is about to start drilling in his newest plant and not listening to the warnings that Jack has passed on, he is about to make things much worse.  Being located just outside of the National Park, Jack is in a race against time to get his daughter back to safety, but he does not know what troubles are behind him.  With the ground cracking around him, Jack has to stay ahead of the minor quakes and with the help of Emily and Gladstone, find a way to get the epicenter to change to a more remote area that will not kill the millions of people in the city that are not expecting the big one to hit.

A L.A. disaster movie, but now one that has the cause of the earthquakes centered around a man-made event.  I am okay with this and since I don’t understand all of the science of what drilling can do to a fault line, the theory seems sound to me.  If you drill it, you will kill millions…or something like that.  With the city in shambles, you get to see the true emotions come out about what is happening all around them.  And with a way to stop it before it gets worse, there is always hesitation from the people in charge to make the call to save the people they are paid to protect.  There might be a little more social commentary to this, but I am here to be entertained so I don’t really pay attention to it most of the times.  If you want to see sinkholes, a whole lot of shaking, a Doctor and a Crazy Man try to save the day, this movie is for you.  Happy Viewing.
