Written by ScottyIt is difficult to know what will happen once the world starts to spiral downhill. People will want to help each other as much as possible, I am sure of this, but they also have to worry about their own survival as well. Most of us have no clue what someone will do when it comes to their life or someone else’s, they may be willing to let themselves go to save another, or they could do what their natural instinct tells them to and kill to be saved. The possibilities make for some scary thoughts and I hope that when the day comes that people are able to keep their wits about them, or else we are all in trouble. Kendal and Dean have been able to survive comfortably in their old orphanage house since the water in the valley dried up. With a plan in mind to escape on an airplane that they have been able to secure, they only need one last part to make it work and Kendal is forced to battle the heat on a daily basis to find a distributor cap. With a functioning well, the two have been able to make it work, but their neighbors have been slowly disappearing from their farms. Seeing pamphlets on the newly abandoned houses, the people of the dried up valley know that they can be taken in by Carson, who is offering everyone asylum at his compound, but when nobody knows what he is really up to. When hearing a distress call from one of the farms, Kendal heads out to help, but when she arrives at the farm that is being threatened by masked men, she sees that the raiders are killing people out of spite for drinking their water. Returning home, Kendal lets Dean know what is happening and since the two kids have formed the ultimate hiding spot, they should be all right. As the days pass on and the wells start to dry up faster, Kendal hears her friend’s family call in for help from Carson. They have given up and with the loss of their father, they have no place to turn, but when Kendal arrives, she sees that Carson is not who he says he is. Killing the older folks to keep them from suffering, Carson will only provide refuge for able bodied youth who can work and earn their own way. Fully aware that time is running out for her and Dean, Kendal is forced to make some difficult decisions on what to do next. Knowing that they will not survive in the valley much longer since the wells have been drying up faster than expected and Carson is looking to eliminate everyone from his land, finding a distributor cap becomes Kendal’s number one priority. But there are more people in the valley that are looking to keep her from leaving, even if she does not take one more sip of water. With raiders, Carson and new drifters moving through, nobody is safe in the valley anymore and with no water to keep people alive, there is no reason to stay, unless you want to take someone special with you on your way out. I always like to watch these kind of end of the world movies since they show the good and bad in people when put into an unbelievable situation. I might still have questions on if the entire planet has been dried up since you don’t get news reports and everybody talks about finding a better life outside of the valley, but it seems like it is harder than it should be to leave. I like the raiders hiding in the sand and when Kendal gets to meet them face to face, she shows that nothing will keep her from reaching her goal, even if it means that she has to kill for it. Kendal was really the star of the movie and she has to overcome so much and is able to, even figuring out how to use a sword. This movie features a good storyline and a couple of characters that make you believe that the world could continue to function if a extended drought takes over the planet. All I know is that I like drinking my water more than ever now and I do not feel bad about it at all. Happy Viewing.
