One unfortunate belief that people hold to in this life, is that being a bully is the best way to keep others on the rise from finding any measure of success, and sadly… there’s good reason as to why people hold to that. After all, time and time again, some good old fashioned, aggressive bullying has proven to do just that. Since a boisterous man, and let’s be honest… it’s always a man… does indeed put fear into someone’s heart and gets them to sit down when they stand and well, that’s just stupid and silly. Because everyone deserves a chance to grow and showcase their abilities. But the good news, is that bullying only goes so far and eventually, those on the rise get their due. It merely takes some time and well, that process got underway in the next episode of Women in Blue (Las Azules) on Apple TV+. For ‘Norma’ was a story that saw all of Mexico City celebrate the end of the Undresser. To the point where Tito’s demise was covered heavily on television, and of course… down at the station there was relief. For the work was done in the eyes of the Commander and the detectives, and all could return to normal. But alas, there was no peace to be found amongst our core four heroines. For María really did believe that something was amiss and that the police brought an unjust man to justice and sullied his name in the process and that prompted her to talk with her cohorts, about opening up their own investigation. So that the truth could be exposed, and so they could of course, honor the badge they wore and the oath they took, and showcase how they were the right choice for the job, and well, everyone outright loved that particular idea. Which allowed for a sneaky plan to take place. Wherein Ángeles would gather forensic evidence through fingerprints while Natalia and María would interrogate the accused’s mother. All of which would prove without a doubt whether the police did the right thing or not, and sadly… it turned out that María’s concerns about the nature of the case, were correct. For Ángeles discovered inconsistency in the fingerprint data, the kind that showcased Tito merely touched the body over actually causing harm and Natalia and María came to learn… that Tito was incapable of even remotely committing these crimes. For he suffered a critical brain injury as a boy, and that caused him to suffer from all kinds of issues mentally and physically. To the point where his mother had to help him get to and from work, and that… was a stunning revelation.
One that prompted María, Natalia, and Ángeles to present the evidence and well… face the bullying in question. Because Gerardo was furious that an investigation took place that made, he and his bullpen look akin to fools. So, he immediately pushed back and threatened and postured and did everything but call Escobedo. Because this was unacceptable to him, and that put these aspiring police officers in a sorrowful place. One that was made worse by more bullying and sexism throughout the episode. Since they were also sent to the basement to do general policework as needed, after they asked nicely for such accommodations and well… all of those actions made it clear that no one wanted them to progress or showcase their skills, outside of Romandía, who fought hard to keep them on the beat, and well, as is the thinking for such actions, everyone expected a status quo to continue along.
But alas, the core four understood the opportunity in front of them here. Even Gabina, who stayed on the sidelines here because… she wanted clear of this to continue to rise. But this moment and much of the unwelcome sexism each of them faced outside of the station… only seemed to embolden them further. For each of them had something to say about the outcome of the overwhelming evidence they presented and were fiery over being told the right thing was the wrong thing. Not to mention, María was deeply worried about what was to come next. For now, the knowledge was in hand that the Undresser was in fact, still out there and coming face to face with that reality, only seemed to fuel her more in her quest to find justice. Especially after she saw his car in the cemetery. Since that informed her of his desire to be near his victims, regardless of his actions and that… more work needed to be done. But while we wait to see how María and her fellow officers respond to this, we can celebrate one smart tale. One that set the stage for the rise of the Women in Blue, by having bravado and machismo, and ignorance, remind them why they did this, and such toxic actions allowed for them to understand their abilities as officers and understand the power they could yield in a positive manner and that just made for great television through and through. The kind that has us rooting for them like never before. Because we know they’re right, we know the old way is stupid and they are likely the only ones that can bring down this monster and that makes the wait for next week’s episode, as painful as can be. For we are ready to see these intrepid officers push back against the bullies, and make the streets safe, as they swore to do. Until next time. Watch ‘Women in Blue (Las Azules)’
