One particular fantasy we all indulge in at some point or another in our lives, is pondering upon what it might be like to have seen our parents in the years and days before we were born. Simply because, we only really know one particular iteration of who they are. That formed adult that made a decision to have a child and raise them, and we never get to know the person that might have been reckless, nor do we know how they handled adversity for the first time. So, we simply think upon that in a fleeting manner before moving on with our own lives. Which is why, the Hallmark Channel series, The Way Home is so beloved by fans everywhere, because it indulges that fantasy in more ways than one. Since Kat and Alice have traveled through time and seen their parents/grandparents in various periods of time, and this week, the pond only sent them deeper into yesteryear. For ‘The Way We Were’ saw Kat and Alice both arrive in 1974. For the pond wanted them to see Colton as a teenager and that brought about meaningful joy for both of them and allowed for them to get an idea of what Colton was like as a kid. Of how loose and joyous he was and how much he loved music back in that era. Since he and his guitar were inseparable, and he stopped at nothing to play in front of an audience and oddly enough… this trip back also helped for Kat and Alice to see something quite unique take place in the past. In that, they were able to see Del meet Colton for the first time. A moment that everyone expected to be a true moment of love at first sight, and in some ways it was. Since Colton spoke to how she took his breath away and how he couldn’t stop thinking about her from the get-go. But alas, she expected him to outright impress her, and he did not in that first meeting. Which led to a tense parting of the ways and eventually, some sorrowful truths about what happened after that magical day. Since Colton and his friends did endure some hardships beyond that. But it was indeed a fine reminder of how well this show explores that fantasy and uses it to just bring us joy and lose us in a special moment. But this episode also offered us more than just that magnificent reunion in the past. After all, this was a story that saw Jacob find agency in 2025. Because he came to understand he was lying to himself and others and needed to do a better job of being honest and being authentic. Which was new to him since he’s lived lies his entire life. But he made strides here. By telling Del the truth about why he came home and by standing up for his family when the going got tough at Kat’s book launch, courtesy of another member of the Goodwin family. Not to mention, this episode also saw El’s father return from abroad. Wherein Vic promised he was a remade man that wanted to do right by his family. Only to reveal that he was looking for something far more valuable for reasons that likely relate to getting rich, which wounded El deeply. Not to mention, the mystery regarding the Pond and its ties to the Landry family continued to grow here. Since someone left their gear behind in 2025 after traveling through and pushing Alice into the 1970s, and speaking of the 1970s. Alice went back, as expected, since she knew that she had to be on that album at some point, only to learn that yes… Colton does know more about the Pond than he ever let on. Since he emerged from it, after his own trip through time. All of which sets the stage for more for us to uncover in the weeks ahead. But for now, we can celebrate one delightful adventure. One that featured character growth and truly indulged us in a thought we often cherish, and it will be interesting to see what tender moments and surprises lie ahead as season three of this lovely show continues along. Until next time. Watch ‘The Way Home’
